Black Ops 2 Weapons Tier List 2026

I’ve gathered all 38 multiplayer weapons for this tier list. I’m also counting the Peacekeeper because it’s a real DLC weapon and you can play with it if you have access to it. But I’m not ranking Assault Shield here. It’s basically a more defensive utility rather than a normal gun. Check out a complete Black Ops 2 weapons tier list for 2026:

Remember that the meta hasn’t changed, and a ported version of the game has no changes concerning weapon balance. That’s why you’ll never see any sudden changes like Crossbow sitting in S-Tier now, lmao.

Best Guns in Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

These 7 weapons have been on top of the meta for quite a long time now. And this hasn’t changed with a PS4 and PS5 port release, honestly. The majority of old-school players are still running with these guns, and newer players are already adapting to the meta. See the best guns in BO2 multiplayer so far:

These are the most reliable weapons to hit Nuke or just keep a perfect KD in most matches you play. BO2 maps are too different to run with MSMC on any of them, but this comes with practice. You’ll eventually learn where AN-94 performs better compared to any SMG, and where DSR 50 can make the entire server tremble before you.

MSMC

MSMC has been the best overall weapon in Black Ops 2 multiplayer for years. I’ve played hundreds of hours with it, and it’s a perfect balance of everything in one. You’re good at medium and short ranges, your damage is enough to win most 1v1 fights.

You’ll deal 40 damage per bullet at closer ranges (less than 14m), and that means only three bullets are enough to take an enemy down. The only moment you might be struggling with is the fire rate, especially compared to Skorpion EVO. But that’s nothing to complain about.

My favorite maps to run MSMC on include Raid, Standoff, Slums, Express, and surely Hijacked. I’m sure every old-school player enjoys MSMC as much as I do. It’s a super reliable gun, try it if you haven’t yet.

AN-94

AN-94 hits for 40 damage per bullet, and that means you can take down an enemy with only 3 shots if you’re at a medium/close range. The damage goes down to 33, meaning you’ll have to hit 4 shots instead, but it’s still super deadly.

The main reason I rate AN-94 so highly is that it works in almost every lobby. It’s equally great for both holding positions and playing around objectives. I also like its manageable recoil and the fact that it’s enjoyable to use at almost any range.

M8A1

M8A1 has been the strongest burst-type weapon in BO2 multiplayer forever. You can take down an enemy with just 3 bullets, as they’ll deal 105 damage in total in almost melee range (<1.3m). But your aim should be good enough to land clean bursts with it.

If you miss bursts, this gun loses its main upside. Full-auto rifles are more forgiving when your aim is shaky, but the M8A1 rewards better players hard. That’s why it’s not a beginner-friendly gun for sure. But it’s definitely a great pick for holding lanes and mid-range angles.

PDW-57

PDW-57 is the gun I like for its massive magazine of 50 bullets. Yeah, its damage isn’t that crazy, but you’ll win most 1v1 fights in closer ranges. You’ll have to hit 3 bullets to take down an enemy, and that’s nothing compared to your mag size. You can basically run non-stop and take one enemy after another without reloading. I personally like it for Hardpoint and Domination modes.

DSR 50

DSR 50 is the only sniper rifle in Black Ops 2 multiplayer I like. The reason for this is that it gives this feeling of one-shot that most players want when playing with a weapon of this type. Yeah, Ballista is faster, and I understand why many players love it. But if I need to trust one sniper across different maps, I’m choosing DSR 50.

Use it for long lanes, quick picks, and classic BO2 sniping. Just don’t bring it into every small-map lobby and then blame the weapon when an MSMC player removes you from the match.

FAL OSW

You can take down an enemy with only two hits (if they’re 17m or closer to you) with FAL OSW. It’s one of the deadliest semi-auto fire guns in BO2. It’s great for peaking at range, but you need good aim and strong trigger control to unlock the weapon’s full potential. Use it on maps with longer lanes and predictable angles. Its main strength is how quickly you can delete an enemy, not in spamming around.

Skorpion EVO

Skorpion EVO has the fastest fire rate in the game, and that allows you to erase any enemy in close range. But there are fair tradeoffs you have to deal with: ammo and control. You burn through bullets fast, and longer-range fights are not where this weapon wants to live.

I only like this gun when pushing fast or flanking. You also gotta pick the Scavenger perk, or this gun loses to any other Assault Rifle or SMG in the game. You’ll have no ammo to hit higher scoresteaks, not to mention Nuke, lol.

Best Weapons by Type in BO2 Multiplayer

You can clearly see which weapon is the best in the following categories since they belong in S-Tier:

• AN-94, M8A1, and FAL OSW are the strongest Assault rifles so far, and I’ve already described why

• MSMC, PDW-57, and Skorpion EVO are the highest-ranked SMGs on my tier list
• DSR 50 is the only Sniper Rifle I can put in S-Tier so far

And now we’re getting to less-popular weapon categories that are not in the S-Tier at all. But certain guns from these categories are more than playable and can be a great pick on certain maps or modes.

Best Shotgun in Black Ops 2

Shotguns depend heavily on the map you’re playing on and the route you’re sticking to on it. But I personally enjoy running R870 MCS on Hijacked, for example. It’s also the best shotgun in BO2 for me for its simplicity and damage.

KSG has more skill expression because it fires a slug. If you aim well, it can surprise people at ranges where other shotguns stop working. If you don’t, it can be a very expensive mistake.

Best LMG in Black Ops 2

I personally don’t like LMGs in BO2 or any other CoD game. They’re too slow for my playstyle, but I do know people who like this type of weapon for how easy it is to control lanes with them. If you don’t like rushing, consider these two LMGs to be the best picks in the game:

• LSAT
• MK 48

Both weapons are okay, but LSAT is a bit more appreciated in terms of being practical in occasional rush scenarios. MK 48 is way heavier, and I would recommend it only if you’re controlling a specific lane without moving at all.

Best Pistol in Black Ops 2

I rarely run any pistols in BO2 multiplayer at all, but some of them are worth your attention. These are the two picks I’ve put in A-Tier, and I can actually recommend taking in your loadout:

• KAP-40
• B23R

The first one is a true beast at close ranges due to its full-auto fire mode, and B23R is just a strong burst pistol you can always take out to finish an enemy.

 

 

Best Weapons for Beginners in Black Ops 2

If you’re returning to BO2 after years away or it’s your first time ever launching it, oh boy, you’ll have so much fun with the weapons in this game. My honest advice is not to take the weapon just because it’s ranked high. You need to take the one that’s more reliable and works on most maps. A clear example of that would be MSMC or AN-94. I’ve ranked all these weapons by many factors and done many tests in real matches. Raw damage is cool, of course, but that’s not the only criterion here. See what factors I used to rank BO2 weapons to find the best ones:

• Recoil
• Range
• Handling
• Ammo
• Map Fit
• Ease of Use

For example, ease of use matters a lot for beginners, and they don’t care that much about range or map fit at this point. When you’re only starting, you want a simple gun that just performs predictably and takes down an enemy when you see one. But when you get more experienced, factors like TTK, as well as recoil become more important.
