Free Fire Tier List Explained
Before I share the tier list, I have to clarify a few things. First, all of this is subjective. Considering that the season has just begun, it all might change, and I will likely change the placement in the future. Below are some of the criteria I had when ranking the guns:
- Stats: The better the stats, the better the weapon
- Rarity: Though not a key factor, usually the rarer the weapon, the better it is
- TTK: Which stands for time-to-kill. The ultimate decision maker. If the weapon’s ttk is low but the stats are high, it will not make it to the top of the tier list.
The most important criterion is TTK, cause it combines the damage, accuracy, and rate of fire into one single aspect. If you can potentially kill your opponent in two shots, but the accuracy or RoF of the weapon is low, it bumps the ttk up, reducing its effectiveness. Now that you know the criteria, let’s move on to the tier list.
Free Fire Weapon Tier List

Ranking fifty weapons is no easy task, so I’ve decided to rank only guns. Some guns also have upgrade variations that make them stronger than the base version, and this is something you have to keep in mind as well when creating a tier list. After analyzing each gun and checking its stats, I’ve created this OB53 Free Fire weapon tier list:
|
Tier |
Weapons |
|
S-Tier |
M1887, AWM, Groza, Woodpecker, UMP, MP40, M82B |
|
A-Tier |
MAG-7, SCAR, Kar98k, AC80, Thompson |
|
B-Tier |
MP5, MAC10, M24, FAMAS, XM8, M14, M1014 |
|
C-Tier |
AK47, AN94, VSK94, Shield Gun, Charge Buster, M4A1 |
And that’s how my tier list goes. Some of the weapons in here were significantly nerfed compared to previous seasons, which is why they’re lower than before. Let’s not waste any more time and talk about the best weapons in Free Fire.
S-Tier Explained
If you are looking for the short answer for the best weapon in Free Fire, it’s Groza. If the fight happens in mid-range, then this gun will decimate any foe. In close and long range, it’s not as efficient as some other guns. It loses to M1887 in close quarters and to AWM at long distances, but its strength is its all-aroundness.
Groza - S-Tier

The best weapon in Free Fire overall. While it’s of legendary rarity and finding it can be hard, getting it increases your chances of winning significantly. I recommend playing it from the cover, just don’t pick fights with long-range guns like Kar98k or AWM. Here are its stats:
- Damage: 61
- RoF: 58
- Range: 77
- Accuracy: 52
Groza, in many ways, is similar to AK47, but it has better range and accuracy. It has three attachment slots for muzzle, mag, and scope. I highly recommend combining it with any close-range weapon, whether it’s an SMG or a shotgun. If you are lucky enough to get it, you should know what characters it pairs with best:
- K
- Hayato
- Maro
- Wolfrahh
Combining it with K is the move, cause he can support your divers from the backline, providing crazy damage. One problem with this weapon is that you can only get it from airdrops, but Groza is so good that there’s no point in not trying to get it every round.
M1887 - S-Tier

The best close-range weapon in Free Fire. Close-quarter monster with the lowest TTK in the game. It can one-shot enemies at close range, and the magazine capacity allows for mistakes. While it has no attachment slots, you really don’t need them, as this weapon does its job perfectly as is. Here are the stats that make this weapon so good:
- Damage: 100
- RoF: 34
- Range: 16
- Accuracy: 12
This weapon is your typical high-risk, high-reward gun. Though you can try playing with this weapon only, it works best as the secondary option. Start damaging the enemy from afar, then close the distance and finish the job. You'd better pair it with the following characters:
- Xayne
- Jota
- Hayato
- Kla
I love to run it on Hayato, since his passive ability directly synergizes with M1887, and you can pretty much rush the enemy without being scared of dying along the way.
AWM - S-Tier

The best sniper rifle in Free Fire. Though it’s another weapon available from airdrops only, getting it is only a little worse than getting Groza. Its damage, range, and accuracy combined create a deadly solution to any problem the enemy gives you. Here are the stats:
- Damage: 90
- RoF: 27
- Range: 91
- Accuracy: 90
Just like Groza, it has three attachment slots. I recommend running it with a suppressor. It’s probably the best attachment to use with AWM. The enemy will never know what hit ‘em. The mag capacity is quite low for a sniper rifle, so I also recommend getting an extended mag and an increased scope. Here’s who you want to pair this weapon with:
- Rafael
- Wolfrahh
- Maro
- Laura
If you read our Free Fire characters tier list, you know that Maro is placed quite high in this patch. Pairing him with AWM is the deadliest solution, as his passive makes the damage higher the further he is from the target. Unfortunately, since getting AWM is quite random, you won’t be that lucky every game.
Woodpecker - S-Tier

If you think that AWM has too high a skill ceiling, you can opt for Woodpecker, a long-range DMR that can easily substitute most sniper rifles in the game. It has serious damage and a far more forgiving rate of fire. Here are the stats:
- Damage: 85
- RoF: 42
- Range: 77
- Accuracy: 57
While its accuracy leaves more to be desired, its damage and RoF solve the problem. It’s the best DMR in Free Fire for a reason. You only need two shots to send your opponent to the main menu. It’s not a low-skill gun either, you need to be pretty accurate cause after two initial shots, the spray of this gun becomes really unpredictable. The list of characters you wanna pair it with is pretty much the same as with AWM:
- Wolfrahh
- Maro
- Laura
- Shirou
Unlike with AWM, I’d actually advise getting Laura for Woodpecker, as she makes its mediocre accuracy actually good, turning it into a laser beam. Of course, you can also get Wolfrahh, as he doesn’t care if the headshot lands and only needs body shots, so the choice is yours. It’s just that I prefer playing as Laura with Woodpecker more.
MP40 - S-Tier

An iconic common weapon that outperforms rarer options with better stats. How is it possible? Well, thanks to its crazy fire rate, this weapon melts enemies close. It’s the second-best close-range weapon after M1887 and the best SMG in Free Fire overall. You really want to play it aggressively. Here are the stats:
- Damage: 27
- RoF: 83
- Range: 22
- Accuracy: 29
One thing I gotta say, you have to put on an extended mag on this thing as it chews through a normal mag in less than a second. Luckily, it’s not so hard to get. As I already said, this gun rewards playing aggressively, so you need to pair it with aggressive dive characters like:
- Jota
- Kelly
- D-Bee
- Jai
All of the mentioned characters work amazingly well with the MP40. Each of them has great compatibility with it, but I especially like playing as Jai or D-Bee when going for the MP40.
UMP - S-Tier

An alternative to the MP40. Unlike the MP40, it allows you to play at close to mid range, so you can contest some ARs even. It has great armor penetration, which makes it a good mid-range opener that will kill most careless opponents. Here are the stats:
- Damage: 27
- RoF: 74
- Range: 24
- Accuracy: 42
It’s more accurate than MP40, so you can stick to a more tactical approach than just spray’n’pray warfare. It has a huge mag with 42 bullets, and if you put a scope on it, you can make a really decent AR/SMG hybrid. Since it’s not as aggressive as the MP40, you can use it with other characters:
- Nikita
- Jota
- Jai
- Leon
Pairing this gun with Nikita makes this weapon feel like it has endless ammunition, but the problem is that Nikita’s passive isn’t that good. Jai is the best pick for UMP cause he won’t spend precious time reloading, even if it’s super fast, which effectively reduces the TTK.
M82B - S-Tier

Another fire sniper rifle in this Free Fire meta weapons tier list. It might seem that it loses to AWM in multiple stats, but it does what AWM can’t. It can break the gloo walls. Trust me, the enemy never expects an M82B shot, even if they expect Xayne or Skyler to break their walls. Here are its stats:
- Damage: 91
- RoF: 22
- Range: 85
- Accuracy: 54
While it has poor accuracy for a sniper rifle, it compensates for it with crazy high damage. Actually, the highest sniper damage in the game. There are multiple characters you might want to pair this weapon with:
- Skyler
- Laura
- Maro
- Kenta
Pairing it with Skyler feels like the most logical move. No wall will stand between you and the enemy. However, I actually like to pair it with Maro. It’s definitely not the sniper rifle you want to use as the main weapon. If anything, it’s the opener. And what can be a better opener than downing an enemy immediately? If you have Moco in your team, this duo can clear the teams on their own.
Honorable Mentions
While you really want to stick to S-Tier weapons in every game, there are some other weapons you might want to pay attention to. They’re not as strong as S-Tier ones, but they can be acquired way easier than legendary options. I’ll briefly go over some other strong weapons from our Free Fire top weapons tier list:
- MAG-7: Highest ammo capacity among shotguns and good damage. Doesn’t have oneshot potential but is way more reliable.
- SCAR: In my opinion, the second-best AR after Groza. Amazing damage, good RoF, and accuracy make it almost a laser beam with a foregrip and compensator equipped.
- Kar98k: Wonderful bolt-action sniper that can also one-shot enemies, like AWM. It’s way easier to find, and with a suppressor, it’s one of the most fun weapons in the game.
- AC80: Wonderful all-arounder AR. Very forgiving, though it doesn’t shine in any aspect, which is its strength, to be honest. Great for beginner players.
- Thompson: In some ways can be more relevant than the MP40. The fire rate is very high, plus the drum mag that fits 44 rounds is more than enough to kill a few opponents, though it has really poor per-bullet damage.
These weapons are some of the best to look out for. The S-Tier options are really strong, but I wouldn’t stick to them if you are new to the game. These guns, on the other hand, will do wonders in any hands.
