What Is Stardust in Pokemon GO?

Stardust is the main upgrade currency in Pokemon GO. If you’ve ever played the game, you know that you never have enough of it cause it runs out fast. You need Stardust to power up your Pokemon, unlock Charged Attacks, trade, and so on. The problem lies in acquiring enough of it to have it available for everything that you need. Expert players know all the ways to do it, so this article is directed more towards newer players or players who have already played the game for some time. However, expert players may also find new ways they’ve never heard of. To get lots of Stardust, you not only need to know how to farm it but also how to avoid wasting it on Pokemon you’ll never use. Now let me share the best methods to farm Stardust in Pokemon GO.

Method #1: Berry Feeding

Dumping berries in the gyms. When you feed a Pokemon a berry in the gym, you get +30 Stardust. You can give up to 10 berries per Pokemon to a maximum of 10 different Pokemon every 30 minutes. This puts us around 3000 stardust per 30 min. It takes a bit of time, but this much stardust is worth it. If you've been playing a minute now, you definitely got lots of berries just chilling in your inventory, so instead of throwing them out, feed em.

Method #2: Adventure Sync Rewards

At the end of the week, depending on how long you've walked, you get a stardust amount. Here's how much stardust you get:

  • 25 KM: 1,000
  • 50 KM: 6,000
  • 100 KM: 16,000

You get the Adventure Sync rewards on Monday morning, 9 AM local time. Now what I recommend you do is to synchronize your seven-day catch streak with Adventure Sync rewards, cause on the 7th day you get a Star Piece. Star Piece boosts your Stardust gains by 50% for 30 minutes. You get the idea. Walking 100 km is around 20k steps every day on average, which is more than most people can do, but you can fake it by either just swinging your arm while holding your phone or putting your phone on your Roomba while it vacuums if you have one. Some people also put their phone inside a sock and swing it, which is said to bring the same results. Just be careful not to hurt anyone.

Method #3: Hatching 12 KM Eggs

The next method is a bit tricky and somewhat expensive. The 12 KM Eggs are very profitable for Stardust farming, but these eggs come from battling Team GO Rocket leaders. This method on its own can bring around 38,400 to 76,800 Stardust, but it's especially lucrative if you have a Star Piece active, increasing the gains from 57,600 to 115,200. Finally, if you manage to hatch these eggs during the 2x Hatch Stardust event and a Starpiece, you'll get a whopping 115,200 to 230,400 Stardust per hatch, which is massive. I'd say it's worth the hassle. Still, this method is expensive and requires you to repeatedly battle GO Rocket.

Method #4: GO Battle League PvP

This method won't work for everyone. If you enjoy Pokemon GO as a walking chill game with PvE content, you can skip it. If you're fine with battling other players, be sure to check it. Normally, you can battle in 10 sets during the GO Battle League, which is 50 battles total. The best thing about this is that you can farm Stardust this way without walking. Stardust rewards here vary from season, your rank placement, and your wins. You can also purchase a Premium Battle Pass, but that's not necessary, as Stardust gains from PvP are more than enough. Also note that GO Battle Thursdays and special PvP weeks often have boosted Stardust rewards. The multiplier changes from event to event, but there's zero point in not taking part in these events if you're an active PvP player.

Method #5: Catching Pokemon

The most obvious point. In the game about catching little critters, catching little critters rewards you with the main currency. While catching higher evolution Pokemon is much more beneficial, it's better to catch every Pokemon you see instead of waiting for the right one to pop. Here are the stardsust gains per Pokemon caught:

  1. Basic Evolution: 100 Stardust
  2. First Stage Evolution: 300 Stardust
  3. Second Stage Evolution: 500 Stardust

These numbers can also be influenced by weather boosts, which give a 1.25x multiplier. So 100 →  125, 300 →  375, 500 →  625. My recommendation here is just to catch everything that comes into your sight, and you'll quickly rack up tons of Stardust. Star Pieces and Catch events make this an even better farming method.

Method #6 Catching Boosted-Stardust Pokemon

This is by far the best Stardust farming method in Pokemon GO. It works this well because some Pokemon naturally give far more Stardust than others when caught. If you are able to catch them every time, you'll be really rich. This way is very profitable because you're not tied to any events to gain Stardust and can reliably grind it every day with a certain degree of luck.

The Pokemon like Paras, Meowth, Shellder, Chimecho, Trubbish, etc give 500+ Stardust upon catch. Here's a full table with Stardust numbers:

If you are able to catch these Pokemon during events or Star Piece active, you'll get an unholy amount of Stardust. Imagine that you catch Audino, which gives 2,100 Stardust before bonuses.

Method #7: Saving Research Encounters for Stardust Events

In order for this to work, you need to complete Field Research tasks, escape from the encounter, and save those Pokemon for later, when Stardust events become available. It is extremely potent if the saved encounter is a boosted-Stardust Pokemon from the list above. This is basically a continuation of the previous method, with the only difference being the ability to preserve the Pokemon for later. Catch them during Stardust events with Star Piece applied. It's basically a cheese that players have been using for a long time now.

Best Stardust Farming Way in Pokemon GO

The best Stardust farming way in Pokemon GO is quite simple. Catch everything you can during normal play, feed spare berries into Gyms, and save Star Pieces for Stardust events. On Mondays, check Adventure Sync rewards before catching your first Pokemon if your 7-day streak is ready. During events, focus on boosted-Stardust Pokemon and use Quick Catch. PvP players should also watch for GO Battle Days, since those events can give a huge amount of Dust without walking. Egg hatching is another profitable way, but it’s somewhat hard to pull off cause you need all stars aligned for it to work. For most players, the best Stardust farming method is just daily catching mixed with some event planning.
