Season 3 Multiplayer Content

I’d like to start with the interesting stuff, such as the new maps for multiplayer. We got two new ones:

Map

Release

Size

POIs

Description

Beacon

Launch

6v6

Boneyard, Venting, Cargo

Medium-sized snowy map set in a remote Guild facility. It mixes close interior fights with longer sightlines outside, especially around the Bridge and across the Tundra.

Abyss

Launch

6v6, 2v2

Torpedo Room, Missile Silos, Engine Room

Small submarine map built around tight corridors, flanking routes, and vertical movement with rope Ascenders. The upper decks and Sail give strong sightlines, while the interior stays chaotic and close-range.

Plaza (BO2)

Launch

6v6

Vtol, Yellow bar, Club

A remaster of the Black Ops 2 map. Plaza keeps its luxury resort setting and central stair fight, but now plays faster with BO7 movement and Wall Jumping.

Gridlock (BO)

Launch

6v6

Underpass, Promenade, Onsen

A remaster of the Black Ops 4 map set on a wrecked freeway in a Japanese city. It offers a strong mix of long street sightlines, interior cover, and side-lane flanks.

Mission: Trident

Launch

20v20 Skirmish

Hull Interior, Boat Channel, Dock Yard

A brand-new large-scale Skirmish map. It focuses on waterways, shoreline combat, rooftop angles, and a high-ground helipad section built into an old cruise liner.

Onsen

Mid-season

6v6, 2v2

Steam Bath, Oni Statue, Main Structure, Outbuildings

Small map set in a Japanese hot springs spa. The steam bath acts as the main combat hotspot, while the surrounding structures offer flanking routes and elevated cover.

Summit

Mid-season

6v6

Research Facility, Labs, Catwalks, Central Control Room, Cliffside

The original Black Ops classic returns in remastered form. It keeps its famous three-lane structure, now updated with BO7 movement options and more vertical flow.

Hacienda

Mid-season

6v6

Central Villa, Vineyard Paths, Garage, Courtyard

Returning from Black Ops 6, Hacienda brings back its stylish estate setting and balanced three-lane layout. It mixes interior pressure points with open sightlines around the property.

Ascent

Mid-season

Freerun Mode

Ten Obstacle Zones

A special map made for Freerun mode rather than standard multiplayer. It is focused entirely on movement, platforming, and precise wall-based traversal.

That’s a total of 9 maps coming to Season 3’s MP, which is pretty impressive. Some of these maps are pretty unique, some are throwbacks to previous CoDs. You got small-size maps, mid-size maps, and one for the Skirmish - lots of opportunities to try out different loadouts.

New Multiplayer Modes

Speaking of opportunities, we get six more gameplay modes, some of which are for Moshpit, but more serious ones are also coming. Here’s the full list of those new modes with some quick details:

  1. Demolition - a take on a classic plant/defuse bomb mode where the attacking team needs to plant a bomb on one of two sites to pause the timer, while the defending team needs to locate and defuse it. Spawns are enabled.
  2. Aim High - a Moshpit mode that makes it so that any headshot kills the enemy.
  3. Snipers Only - just like the name suggests, only one weapon type is allowed, and no equipment, field upgrades, or even secondary weapons are allowed.
  4. Freerun - a unique mode where instead of killing each other, players compete in reaching the finish line running through a new map (Ascent). There’s going to be an event dedicated to this game mode.
  5. Heat Wave Havoc - increase the heat level by performing support actions such as revealing enemies, destroying equipment, disabling radars, and buffing or debuffing players to gain bonuses. Each level of heat gives you different bonuses, from faster field upgrade recharge to increased headshot damage or equipment refill from kills.
  6. Freeze Tag - dealing lethal damage freezes enemies instead of killing them, this earns you points. Teammates can unfreeze you by staying nearby until the frozen player thaws.

The last two modes are LTM or limited-time modes, but it seems that Freerun and Ascent maps are going to stay after the thematic event ends. All of those will come with the mid-season update, but for the launch, we’re getting Demolition, with Aim High and Snipers Only coming soon after.

New Scorestreak: Ion Core

Coming later in the season, there’s a new scorestreak coming that is going to cost you 1175 score, so not a cheap one. What does it do?

Its a big AoE device that deals pulsating damage in an expanding radius before needing to recharge. The damage it deals goes through walls, so it can be hidden in some tight corner to rack up kills. While not exactly a “cheat code” level scorestreak like the Napalm Strike or the LDBR, I can still see it having its uses. This scorestreak has two upgrades:

  1. Plutonium core: increases the duration and radius of effect
  2. Chemical Catalyst: decreases the time between damage pulses

It’s going to be fun to see how players will use this one on different maps.

By the way, the same scorestream is going to be available in the Zombies mode, costing 1500 Salvage and it works exactly the same way as in multiplayer.

Ranked Play

Without going deeper into the details, Season 3 includes a bunch of seasonal rewards, including calling cards, rank camos, a weapon blueprint called “Pro Re-Issue” for M15 Mod 0 AR, and a large decal for 100 wins.

Check out this GameRant page if you want to know the list of modes in rotation for Ranked MP

And if you want to know more about the dates and the full list of rewards, check out our CoD Ranked play guide.

Season 3 Zombies Content

The biggest new addition is the new survival map - Ashwood. Just a quick reminder, Survival mode is set on smaller maps with unlockable paths where you need to survive waves of zombies with ever-increasing difficulty. You can spend your currency on buying Perk-a-Cola’s, weapons on the walls, doors, or try your luck at one of the mystery boxes.

Ashwood is part of the Ashes of the Damned story map, and it is a destroyed village with houses connected by a bridge.

Another addition in S3 is the Directed Mode for Paradox Junction that will help you complete the main story quest through this map with enabled directions and objectives. You still have to figure out all the puzzles on your own, though.

This same map is also available in the mode called “Starting Room” where you’ll be forced to survive in the starting area of the map with only the things that are present in that starting area, which, for this map, include:

  • Mystery Box,
  • 1x wall buy
  • Ammo Cache
  • GobbleGum machine
  • Random Perk Machine

This gives you pretty much everything you need to go for a very long time.

Besides the regular and starting room survival variants, there’s also the Cursed survival. It’s the one that the community calls the “classic” survival because there are no loadouts, you’re thrown into the map with the starting pistol, and you gain points for kills and other actions. You have no mini-map either, while the map itself contains hidden relics, which are modifiers that make the survival even more difficult. So, if you’ve been yearning for that classic experience, you can do that on Ashwood.

Zombie Battle Mode

Coming out with the launch of Season 3, Zombie Battle adds a competitive twist to the zombie survival. Instead of working together, you and up to 3 other players compete in killing zombies and staying alive. There’s no PvP damage enabled, and the last standing player wins. This mode is available on the following maps:

  • Paradox Junction
  • Astra Malorum
  • Ashes of the Damned

New Story Map: Totenreich

What we all want to see is the continuation of the zombie's main story, which will happen on a new map called Totenreich, coming with the mid-season update. The map is set in Norway and has a lot of connections to Dr. Edward Richtofen, who will no doubt have a lot to say about everything that’s going on on that map.

I’ll be making my own traditional walkthrough guide for the new map once it becomes available, so stay tuned.

Season 3 Warzone Content

Let’s start with general additions and changes before talking about new content.

Wall jumping and Grappling Hook have been the title-selling features for Black Ops 7, and they’re finally making their way into battle royale mode. Besides that, in BR you will be able to get the following:

  • Spikes - 3 new player buffs that can be bought from Buy Station to grant one of 3 buffs:
    • Armor Salvaging: restore one armor on player kill
    • Prone Firing: get reduced weapon recoil when prone or crouched
    • Handicraft: regenerate equipment over time.
  • EMP Grenade - a new lethal that can be found among the loot on the ground or added as a part of the loadout
  • Cluster Grenade - will be made available for all types of BR after the mid-season update

None of the new equipment needs any introduction, except for the Spikes, which add a bit more utility whenever needed.

Verdansk Update

Battle Royale gets treated to a few important upgrades, especially in the form of the updated Verdansk map that adds a new POI called Launch Pad. Replacing the old Hills POI south of Promenade, this is a massive complex featuring multiple structures, including:

  • Control Tower
  • Hangar
  • Gantry
  • Depot
  • Vats

This POI has lots of verticality due to its nature. The control tower is no small building; it has multiple floors and seems easy to defend. Hanger is the tallest structure with the rocket “parked” in the middle of it. Expect to see some horizontal and vertical ziplines coming in and out of this for easier rotations.

There’s also a Flashpoint public event that starts randomly during a match, which creates new high-loot areas on the map.

3 Gulag Maps

The Gulag is back and now takes place on 3 visually similar but different map variants:

  1. Server Room 04 - the middle part is surrounded by walls with 2 doors on each side
  2. Cryo Lab 05 - features a longer lane on one side and a shorter one on the other. The middle part has two columns for the cover
  3. Meeting Room 07 - features an enclosed lobby in the middle with a round table in the middle

All Gulag maps are traditionally mirrored, so there is no spawn advantage. As usual, you can choose to go to the sides or straight through the middle section to face your opponent. Also, unlike the rest of the BR, you can’t use the fancy wall jump mechanic in Gulag.

New BR Modes

There’s a total of 5 new battle royale modes coming in Season 3.

The big map rotation featured in the Core Battle Royale is all about that classic BR with two maps - Avalon and Verdansk. Play solo or in a squad with up to 3 more players and try your best to be the last survivors. This mode is available at launch.

Launch Squad LTM focuses on the new Launch Pad POI. Its objective is to start the launch of the rocket by collecting Launch Codes. The squad that initiates the launch must then survive until the end of the match as the Most Wanted squad visible to other players. Respawns are enabled, but there are no Buy Stations, cash, or anything else. It’s like a traditional objective-based multiplayer mode with multiple squads.

Hot Pursuit is a racing-focused limited-time mode that brings back the Blackout’s cops vs. robbers gameplay. The respawns work like in Resurgence, where you can respawn as long as at least one squad member is alive. This mode will come with the reloaded, mid-season update, so there’s no info on the rewards for this mode yet.

Prop Hunt is a team-based PvP mode for a total of 48 players divided into two teams. One team is the hunters, and the other is the props. Hunters must find all players disguised as inanimate map objects. It’s a quite popular game mode featured in more games than just CoD.

Iron Gauntlet is a ranked variant of BR for trios with a heavily reworked ruleset after player feedback from last time this mode was available. There’s a rank system and ladder that’s similar to Ranked Resurgence and its own reward track.

Season 3 Resurgence Ranked

The ranked play for Resurgence BR comes with a seasonal set of rewards, including camos, a blueprint, a large decal, and calling cards, much like the ranked mode for multiplayer.

The maps in rotation are Rebirth Island and Haven’s Hollow, which are randomly selected on a timer.

Two new operators are Valkyrie (JSOC) and Javelin (JSOC), both unlocked from the battle pass, but Valkyrie is exclusive to the BlackCell version.

Weekly Challenge Rewards

The last thing worth mentioning is the new series of weekly challenges. I’ve already mentioned that some of them will give you access to the new weapon attachments, but there are also milestone rewards, which are granted for completing several weekly challenges. Namely, you can get:

  1. Weapon Blueprint: “Cinerator” for EGRT-17
  2. Weekly Challenge Weapon Camo 1: “Death Roll”
  3. Weekly Challenge Weapon Camo 2: “Ascendance”

Just complete several weekly challenges and get access to these unique cosmetics and a weapon build.

Endgame is Going Free to Play

For a limited time, the endgame PVE game mode is going free to play in season 3. You can launch it from the CoD launch, but you will have to download it separately from other packages. It is no wonder it went F2P because no one actually cares about it.
