What are Manhunts in Division 2

Manhunts are seasonal questlines in The Division 2. Each season gives you a chain of weekly objectives, and those objectives slowly build toward a final climax mission. You do not get the whole thing on day one, though. It is time-gated, so new steps unlock week by week.
Year 8, Season 2, titled “Into the Dark,” follows that same format. The season lasts nine weeks, and the Manhunt track mixes normal Scout tasks with High-Value Target weeks. The HVT weeks are the important ones, because those are the steps tied directly to the final climax mission. The regular Scout weeks are still worth doing, though, since they give rewards, collectibles, XP, and seasonal progress.
One small trick some players use is deactivating Scouts and saving them for later. That lets them cash in the seasonal XP during stretch goals at the end of the season. If you just want clean week-by-week progress, though, you can simply do each Scout as it unlocks.
To access the Manhunt menu, just open the map and select the Manhunt tab at the top, located between the Projects and the Bounties.
Into the Dark Manhunt Story
Division 2 Y8S2 Manhunt focuses on the Hyenas. After the pressure from Black Tusk eased around D.C., the Division got a chance to deal with threats closer to home. The Hyenas wasted no time and started using that breathing room to build something nasty.
According to the seasonal story, the Hyenas have developed a new Potent Spice formula that makes their fighters harder to bring down and more resistant to pain. That formula seems to be tied to a chemical compound recovered from the Dark Zone, and the Hyenas are storing and moving it through fresh outposts in the area.
The Division wants that same compound for a very different reason. Instead of feeding the Hyenas’ chaos, it could be used to help civilians and agents still trying to keep the city together. That is where the Manhunt comes in. Your job is to enter the Toxic Dark Zone, disrupt the Hyenas’ operation, and recover Sample Cannisters before the compound turns into an even bigger problem.
But before we can do that, first, we gotta track down the Hyenas responsible for this whole thing. And as we do that, we’re going to uncover what exactly started to grow in the Dark Zones and how it was turned from painkillers into a potent drug.

That is the part a lot of players miss at first. Not every week is equally important. If your goal is just unlocking the climax mission, the HVT weeks matter most. If you also want the extra loot, collectibles, and seasonal XP, then you should do every Scout as it appears.
Next up, I’ll walk you through everything you need to do and how to do it easily each week.
Week 1: High-Value Target 1

Week 1 is the only section I can fully break down right now, since this is the live step and I’ve already done it. Your objectives are these:
|
Objective |
Task |
|
Objective 1 |
Speak with Manny Ortega at the White House |
|
Objective 2 |
Complete 2 Public Executions in Downtown East |
|
Objective 3 |
Complete Bounty: Jackal |
All of these are pretty simple, but if you’re new to Manhunts, here’s how to do them. The first task is pretty easy: just spawn in White House and talk to Manny; you’ll have the mission pointer leading you there as if you have a new story mission. You’ll watch a short cinematic introducing you to this season’s story, which, as I said, revolves around something growing in the Dark Zone and Hyenas making drugs out of it. That’s step 1 done.
The next step is to complete two Public Executions in the Downtown East district. The actual objective will read as this: “Some civilians escaping the Hyenas in Downtown East have been captured. Save them.” While it doesn’t tell you directly that you need to do Public executions, it’s kind of self-explanatory, since this is the only type of open-world mission where you have to save civilians.
This should be pretty easy. I’ve done them on Heroic, and I managed to fail a couple of times, so I have some tips for you. Anyway, if you’re new, Public Executions appear randomly on your map around Control Points in the district. Just look for the red head icon on the map. Go there, defeat the Hyenas, and talk to the survivor leader. They will drop a bounty, but you don’t need to do it for the step to be completed.

Here are my tips:
- If you die during Public Execution, it will disappear, and you will have to find another one to start over.
- Capture Control Points in the area so you can teleport around and get to them faster.
- If you’re dying like me, just call for Backup.
- Bounties dropped by saved civilians are not required for the HVT objective
- Don’t forget - you can track the progress of each objective.
Once you’ve done 2 Public Executions, you’ll get a message saying that Jackal has been located. But you won’t find him on the map just like that. It is a Bounty, so open your map, click on the Downtown East bounty icon, and select Jackal. For some reason, you’ll only be able to do this bounty on the normal difficulty. I haven’t found how you can increase the difficulty for better rewards. But in any case, this is a one-and-done bounty. Do it, and you’re done for this week.
Killing Jackal gave me these rewards:
- 5 SHD Calibration
- 3 Exotic Components
- 366,750 XP
- 2,000 Season Pass XP
- Unidentified Compound
- Extra gear drops from the bounty clear
Your rewards may be slightly different based on what world difficulty you’re running and how many Global directives are active for you. I ran mine on Heroic with 3 active directives, which gave me +75% experience.
I’ve found a Reddit post that lists the objectives for all the coming weeks, but they’re hidden in the game, so I’m not sure how accurate they are. In any case, in the coming weeks, I will add more info on how to complete each week's tasks. So, if this is your first time doing a Manhunt, don’t forget to check back every Tuesday!

F.A.Q.
Do I need to complete every Scout in Division 2 Manhunt?
No, not if your only goal is the climax mission. The important steps are the High-Value Targets. That said, the normal Scout weeks still give useful rewards, collectibles, and seasonal XP, so I still recommend doing them.
How many weeks does the Y8S2 Manhunt last?
The Into the Dark Manhunt lasts 9 weeks. New steps unlock weekly, and the final High-Value Target appears in Week 9 before the climax mission.
What do you do in Week 1 of the Division 2 Into the Dark Manhunt?
Week 1 has three tasks. Speak with Manny Ortega at the White House, complete 2 Public Executions in Downtown East, and then finish the Jackal bounty from the Downtown East bounty screen.
Where is Jackal in the Division 2 Into the Dark Manhunt?
Jackal is the Week 1 High-Value Target. You activate his bounty from the Downtown East section of the Bounties menu once the first two Week 1 objectives are complete.
Are Division 2 Manhunts time-gated?
Yes, they are. The Manhunt is built as a weekly seasonal track, so you cannot clear the full chain right away. New Scout or HVT steps unlock over time.
What rewards do you get from the Into the Dark Manhunt?
The Manhunt gives rewards like SHD Calibration, Exotic Components, XP, Season Pass XP, collectibles, and gear. Week 1 alone already gives a pretty decent batch of rewards, so the weekly Scouts are worth checking off.
