The bosses follow approximate powerspike levels that you’ll reach on your progression path. Though Palworld is heavily inspired by Pokemon, its tower bosses are not like trainers and are actually closer to Terraria than anything.

1. Zoe & Grizzbolt

Zoe & Grizzbolt are the first tower boss duo in Palworld. The fight is mostly a tutorial on how bosses work. Grizzbolt is Electric-type, so choosing a Ground-type is the only choice. Or, well, you can come much later and just stomp Grizzbolt with your stronger Pal, even if it’s not of an element type. I don’t recommend doing that, though, unless you enjoy boring games. Get a Pal with a few decent Ground attacks, basic armor for yourself, and a weapon that isn’t complete garbage. Your checklist:

  • Ground-type Pals
  • A bow or early firearm
  • Basic armor
  • Enough food for your Pals
  • A shield

The best ground Pals for Zoe & Grizzbolt's fight are Rushoar, Galeclaw, and Fuddler. The arena pillars are your friends here, hide behind them to avoid projectiles. Recall your Pal before Grizzbolt throws a big attack, and don’t stand around. Basically, if you can press buttons in any way, you won’t have any problems with this fight.

2. Lily & Lyleen

Lily & Lyleen are already harder, primarily because Lyleen is a Grass-type Pal and it’ll stomp you if you drag the fight. Fire is the obvious counter here. If you caught Foxparks around the first town you’ll visit, I recommend sticking to it, because its Partner Skill turns it into a flamethrower, which is super useful in this fight. Bring:

  • Fire-type Pals
  • Fire arrows or a gun
  • Better armor than your starting gear
  • Extra ammo
  • A Pal that can survive a few hits when you dodge the attacks

Best Fire Pals for Lily & Lyleen fight are Incineram, Arsox, Bushi, and Rooby. Lyleen is a so-called stat-checker. All you have to do is continuously deal damage to it. Before 1.0, the timer was very generous, and though now it’s 2 times shorter in duration, I wouldn’t say it makes the fight any more stressful. Just stay active, and that’s it.

3. Axel & Orserk

Axel & Orserk are the first challenge. Like a real challenge. They’re not playing anymore and are serious hurdles on your progression path. Orserk has two types simultaneously: Electric and Dragon, which means Ground and Ice are your best options. This fight also happens around Mount Obsidian, so make sure you have heat protection before traveling there. Getting roasted by the biome before the boss even sees you is not the move. Bring:

  • Ground and/or Ice Pals
  • Heat-resistant armor or accessories (a must)
  • A stronger ranged weapon
  • Plenty of ammo
  • A backup Pal in case your main gets KO’d

The perfect Pal to fight Axel & Orserk is Reptyro Cryst, but you can get some lower-level ones like Penking or Digtoise. If you’re willing to overfarm, come with Anubis or Frostallion, but they come much later in the game. Orserk can hit hard, which means your Pal won’t be able to carry the fight by itself. Shoot when it is safe, dodge often, and pull your Pal back when the boss starts winding up heavier attacks.

4. Marcus & Faleris

Marcus & Faleris are Fire-type. You probably get it by now, find a good Water-type. This fight is super annoying cause Faleris spends a lot of time in the air. Don’t even think about bringing melee Pals. Take Pals that can either fight in the air or shoot. You can check good flying Pals with good combat skills in this article. Take:

  • Water-type Pals
  • A good rifle or other ranged weapon
  • Heat resistance for the desert area
  • Ammo reserves
  • A Pal with ranged attacks

This fight is much more stressful, and the timer is playing against you. Do not take Pals that fire slow projectiles. Best Pals for Marcus & Faleris fight are Jormuntide, Suzaku Aqua, or Elphidran Aqua. The first fight where I recommend you overlevel, though it wouldn’t help much in all honesty. If your Pal keeps whiffing attacks, swap it out.

5. Victor & Shadowbeak

Victor & Shadowbeak used to be the end of the original tower route, so you know the fight is gonna be rough. This duo opens the harder and tougher bosses, so here you really wanna come armed and ready. Shadowbeak is Dark-type, so Dragon Pals are the main counter. Before this point, you could’ve brute-forced your way with a team of strong random Pals. Not the case anymore. You need a leveled Pal. Pal Metal armor, if you haven’t crafted one yet for some reason, and strong weapons. Prepare:

  • Dragon-type Pals
  • At least Pal Metal armor
  • High-damage guns
  • A good shield
  • Plenty of healing

Best Pals for Shadowbeak fight are Jetragon, Frostallion, or Jormuntide. Maybe all of them. Take an AR with around ~1000 bullets. The hardest part of this fight is that you need to deal 200k damage in 5 minutes. What used to be really hard is now even harder. Don’t forget to eat the food buffs to increase your defense.

6. Saya & Selyne

Saya & Selyne are the bosses of the Moonflower Tower. Selyne is a Dark Pal, so you deal with her with the help of Dragon damage. Surprisingly fair fight with zero gimmicks. A very honest stat check, but it makes the fight less memorable in my book. It’s absolutely visually stunning, though. If you barely beat Victor, don’t immediately go to Saya even if you think that you can take her on level 55. Take:

  • Dragon Pals
  • Rocket/grenade launcher or a good AR
  • Cold-Resistant Plasteel Armor
  • Ultra shield
  • Spare ammunition

Optimal Pals to fight Selyne are Jetragon and Blazamut Ryu, or any other Dragon Pals you have upgraded. Honestly, it doesn’t matter much here, just come well prepared, and that’ll be more than enough. Don’t forget to recall your Pal during heavy attacks this duo will unleash at you.

7. Bjorn & Bastigor

Bjorn & Bastigor are the Feybreak tower boss pair, and Bastigor is Ice-type. Fire is your choice here, plus the zone you fight them in is cold, so double the usefulness of your Fire Pal. It’s a tough fight, especially for your GPU if you’re on PC. I highly recommend lowering your graphics settings for this one. Bring:

  • Fire-type Pals (any will do really)
  • Cold-resistant accessories plus your best armor
  • Strong ranged weapons
  • A good shield
  • Food buffs and healing items

Bastigor has a lot of health compared to earlier bosses, so don’t expect this to be a quick victory unless your team is already OP. After you deal with Bastigor, you’ll get a Key Sphere of Wrath, which you’ll need to access the next boss fight.

8. Auri & Shaolong

To get to Auri & Shaolong, you first need to beat Bjorn and Bastigor and go through the portal that appears after their boss fight. Auri and Shaolong are the new main tower boss pair in Palworld 1.0. You’ll find them in the Tower of the Azure Covenant fight in Sunreach, and though it’s not the final boss of the update, you’ll need to prepare as if they were. Shaolong is Water and Dragon, so Electric and Ice are the Pals you’ll take with you.

  • Electric/Ice Pals
  • At least V1 armor
  • Endgame weapons
  • A flying mount is a must-have

The Auri and Shaolong fight is half the trouble, cause you need to progress through Sunreach and deal with the defense systems blocking the area. It’s quite easy, though. You’ll see a large tornado on the horizon and light beams thrown around the area. Go to each beam and destroy it. There’ll be enemy bases near those beams that you need to deal with as well in order to destroy the defense systems, and then you can finally go to the Tornado and get into the tower. The fight itself is nothing harsh or interesting, just fly around the area and shoot the boss.

9. Zenara & Astralym

Zenara & Astralym are the final World Tree boss fight in Palworld 1.0. This is not a normal tower boss in the same sense as the others, but it’s the final step after tower progression. I’ll start by saying that this boss is only a threat on hard mode, and what a threat it is. Bring A TON of Pals with you, cause they will get knocked out. Astralym is also typeless, so it has no weaknesses, which means you should take the strongest Pals that you’ve been able to produce. For the final fight:

  • Your strongest overall Pals
  • Plasma rifle
  • Hexolite or V1 armor
  • Advance Shield
  • Food buffs
  • Dogen, Warsect, Silvegis, and 2 flex accessories

It’s an all-out war, and you’re a one-man army. Since there’s no weakness, you should focus on raw performance. Bring your best damage dealers, cause you’ll have to deal a whopping 5 million damage in 10 minutes on hard mode.

General Tips for Beating Tower Bosses in Palworld 1.0

Tower bosses are DPS checks more than anything else, and Palworld 1.0 made that more obvious with a shorter timer. The basics for each boss are simple:

  • Element: Always take Pals with the element the boss is weak to
  • Best Possible Armor: Always go dressed in the actual gear for the boss tower level, or maybe even a better one
  • Ammo is Key: Take as much ammo as you can, a good amount is around 500-1000, depending on the weapon you use
  • Switch Pals: Don’t let one Pal do all the work in harder boss fights, switch them often
  • Avoid Damage for Your Pal: Recall the Pal just before the attack lands. That keeps them safe and is kind of a cheese that became a core strategy in many boss fights
  • Pillars: Yeah, the typical fight happens in the arena where you hide behind the pillars. It’s not very inventive, but hey, you get what you get
  • Buff Up: Don’t go in unprepared unless you want to make the fight harder and more interesting

Most, if not all, boss fights punish the defensive playstyle. You have to be aggressive and go all in while dodging their attacks. It’s not Dark Souls where you wait for a big opening. Create one.
