Best Flying Mounts in Palworld - Version 1.0

Flying mounts are a big exploration powerspike in any game, but in a survival game like Palworld, this makes a night-and-day difference. They let you traverse all kinds of terrain cause now you don’t have to think about how to walk around this mountain anymore. In this Palworld Best Flying Mounts guide for Version 1.0, I’ll rank the flyers worth using while leveling and explain which ones I’d actually chase.

Best Flying Mounts in Palworld Quick Summary:

  • Nitewing is still the first real flying mount, but it should be replaced as soon as you can.
  • Helzephyr is the best early upgrade for most players because it’s easier to get than Beakon or Ragnahawk.
  • Suzaku is one of the best mid-game flyers thanks to its huge stamina pool.
  • Shadowbeak is awkward to obtain, but it’s one of the strongest pre-late-game mounts.
  • Frostallion and Frostallion Noct are the best endgame flying mounts, but their saddle cost makes them feel much later than expected.
  • The best flying mount path is Nitewing → Helzephyr → Suzaku → Shadowbeak → Frostallion or Frostallion Noct.

Catching some of the best flying mounts is extremely hard, and that’s why I recommend checking the Palworld Pals Collecting services. Let our Pros get you Frostallion, Jetragon, or Xenolord.

How I Ranked Flying Mounts in Palworld 1.0

Not all flyers are built equal, which is logical cause otherwise there wouldn’t be any motivation for you to pursue other flying Pals. Funnily enough, catching a fast-flying mount is only half the deal. You’ll have to condense it and maybe even train it using books. In addition, you can get your feet wet in genome editing by using the Pal Labor Research Laboratory. For this list, I ranked flying mounts based on:

  • Flight speed
  • Stamina
  • The convenience of catching one
  • Saddle level and material cost
  • Ground movement
  • Combat usefulness
  • Hovering ability
  • How hard they are to catch or breed

I’m not tryna make another “this is your fastest Pal catch it” list. I mean, if you need the fastest Pal, just look up on wiki (LINK) which endgame Pal has the highest flying speed, and that’s it. I’ll get into the nitty-gritty, but without overloading you with extensive detail.

Palworld Best Flying Mounts Tier List

I wasn’t trying to make it a tier list because it can hardly be classified as a tier list, but it’s just so fitting here. Nitewing in C-Tier doesn’t mean it’s trash. It just pales in comparison to other options. Which makes sense, since it’s the first flying Pal in the game you’ll likely adopt. Here’s the short version of my tier list before we get into each mount:

Tier

Flying Mounts

S-Tier

Frostallion, Frostallion Noct, Shadowbeak

A-Tier

Suzaku, Helzephyr, Beakon, Ragnahawk

B-Tier

Astegon, Elphidran Aqua

C-Tier

Nitewing

It goes without saying, but flying mounts are mostly good for flying and occasionally combat. Very few of them are good as base Pals. Now let’s get to know each of the flying mounts in more detail.

Nitewing

Nitewing is the first flying mount most players will get, and that’s its whole selling point. It unlocks early, it flies, and… Well, that’s it for the upsides. For early exploration, that’s just huge. It almost feels like you see the world completely new. The elephant in the room is that Nitewing is slow and doesn’t have the stamina to stay up for long. I would not breed for the perfect Nitewing. Though it might sound heartless, Nitewing is just your stepping stone.

Helzephyr

Helzephyr is the first flying mount you need to actively try to get. It’s one of the best Pals in the game if we’re talking about bang for the buck, given you don’t spend any money at all. Compared to Nitewing, it’s a real upgrade over “technically this thing flies.” It is faster, has noticeably better stamina, and is a great travel mount up to mid-game. Also easier to get than Beakon or Ragnahawk, though they’re better. Helzephyr is a great improvement that doesn’t make you fight a squad of electric birds for a minuscule chance of getting a mount drop. Helzephyr is best for:

  • Early-mid-game travel
  • Long exploration

Helzephyr is easy to train and condense, and the only downside is that it’s another stepping stone that you need to invest in to get something out of. Not that it’ll leave you bankrupt in resources.

Beakon

Beakon is where I slightly disagree with the usual “just get the faster flyer” approach. Yes, Beakon is good. Yes, it is faster than Helzephyr, especially if you invest in it. Beakon also becomes much easier to scale once you start catching and using Electric Pals to improve its partner skill. The issue is the process of catching. Beakons appear in groups, and for a new player, that will turn into a very quick lesson that Palworld is a survival game and not a power fantasy, at least in the beginning. I’d use Beakon if:

  • You find one naturally
  • You can fight them
  • You want better speed than Helzephyr
  • You’re okay with spending Electric Pals to improve it

Still, I won’t recommend every player chase Beakon instead of Helzephyr. While the difference is definitely felt, the hassle of getting one is felt too. Pro tip! You can make Beakon saddle at level 29. You can find an Alpha Beakon in the Astral Mountains, near the Bamboo Lake (-345, -253). There are tons of Beakons around the place as well. If you’re equipped well enough, you can catch all Beakons flying around and max out Alpha Beakon, and that’ll be your best choice until much later in the game.

Ragnahawk

Ragnahawk is another strong flying mount that’s comparable to Beakon and Helzephyr. It has good speed and works well if you can get it without too much trouble. It’s also Fire-type, which is good when traversing through cold areas. The reason I don’t rank it above Helzephyr is simple. It’s not enough of an upgrade to chase it. If I’m already in the area and can catch one, great. If not, Helzephyr can carry me until I get Suzaku or Shadowbeak. Ragnahawk is worth using if:

  • You want a faster mid-game flyer
  • You already have heat-resistant gear
  • You like Fire-type mounts

It’s a good mount, plus the color palette is cool-looking. It’s easier to get than Beakon, but you’ll still need to invest in it to make it better than Helzephyr, and even then the difference is not that big.

Suzaku

Suzaku is my favorite mid-game flying mount. It is not the fastest flyer, but it has a huge stamina pool, and you’ll soon find it much more important than just speed. A mount that flies slightly slower but doesn’t constantly drop to the ground is >>> any other mount around that progression stage. Suzaku is also Fire-type, which helps in cold areas. Suzaku is best for:

  • Long-distance travel
  • Cold region exploration
  • Mounted combat
  • Reliability

There are no real downsides to Suzaku apart from switching from it when you travel across the heated areas. Also, as I already mentioned, it’s slower than other competitor Pals. Still, I’d take Suzaku over Beakon or Ragnahawk any day cause of the comfort. Do note that there’s a better version of Suzaku that solves the issue with hot areas, and it’s Suzaku Aqua, but it’s really hard to get. If you somehow get it naturally or through breeding, it’s a very good alternative to a normal Suzaku. Don’t go out of your way to get it, though. It’s a sidegrade, not an upgrade.

Shadowbeak

Shadowbeak is one of the best pre-late-game flying mounts in Palworld 1.0, but getting it is one hell of a task. This is the mount I’d recommend to players who are ready to push themselves for a reward. It has great movement, it’s strong in combat, and it works well both in the air and on the ground. I highlighted the part about ground because some flying mounts feel terrible when you’re not actually flying. Shadowbeak is not like that and stays useful when the game restricts flying or when you’re moving through tighter spaces. Shadowbeak is good because:

  • Its base flight speed is already good enough
  • Its sprint speed is really fast
  • It moves well on the ground
  • Great set of offensive abilities

There is, however, a big downside. Shadowbeak doesn’t hover over water the same way bird-like mounts do, so that makes traveling across the water impossible, but with its speed, you can kinda deal with it. It also takes effort to obtain. If you can get it, Shadowbeak is worth dying a few times for.

Astegon

If you’re looking for a flying backpack, Astegon is the best you can get. As a flyer, it’s cool-looking, but its stats aren’t as good as Suzaku’s or Shadowbeak’s. As part of a mining team, though, Astegon is extremely useful, especially when paired with Pals that reduce the weight of mined minerals. Use Astegon if:

  • You need a flying resource farmer
  • You like the design
  • You already have the team that will work as remote miners

Astegon is definitely not the main flying mount, but for what it does, it’s invaluable.

Elphidran Aqua

Elphidran Aqua is not the best flyer, but I understand why some players like it. It flies, it swims, and it looks cute. From the efficiency standpoint, it’s mediocre. From a practical standpoint, having a flyer that can also help with water travel is really nice. It’s more of a comfort choice than a meta-chasing one. I’d call it an honorable mention rather than anything else. I understand the appeal, though.

Faleris Aqua

I just can’t avoid mentioning the crowned king of flying pre-1.0. Faleris used to be one of those flying mounts everyone wanted to get. In 1.0, the mighty have fallen. The regular Faleris is much harder to get until later in the game, where you get amazing alternatives such as Frostallion, and by the time you craft the saddle for Faleris Aqua, stronger options are already within reach. It’s not a pinnacle anymore. It’s not even good as a progression mount. However, Faleris Aqua is fine for:

  • Collection
  • Design
  • Filling the Paldeck
  • If you really wanna be niche

I suggest looking into the next Pal as your endgame mount.

Frostallion and Frostallion Noct

Frostallion and Frostallion Noct are the true endgame flying mounts and the best flying mounts in Palworld 1.0 that you can get. They are direct upgrades over Shadowbeak in every aspect you need. They’re fast, powerful, have good stamina, and have great offensive skills. A full package. I feel like I’m a car dealer now. The downside comes from the huge amount of materials you need to craft a saddle for it. It makes Frostallion a much further goal than it should be, considering the level requirement and stats. Frostallion is best for:

  • Late-game travel
  • Long-distance movement
  • Combat-ready flying
  • Endgame areas like floating islands and the World Tree

Frostallion Noct is a general mount, just like Frostallion, but with the Dark type. Both should be your endgame goals

Best Flying Mount Progression Route

While it’s not mandatory to follow this path, I really consider it an optimal one where you feel like you progress through the game. Of course, no one tells you that you should stick to it instead of choosing the flying mounts you like. Ideal progression path for me is this:

  1. Nitewing: First flyer, replace ASAP
  2. Helzephyr: Best easy early upgrade
  3. Suzaku: Stamina-relying mid-game mount
  4. Shadowbeak: Pre-late-game MVP
  5. Frostallion or Frostallion Noct: Late-game goal

If you have the chance, you can opt out for Beakon or Ragnahawk if you manage to find them while progressing, but I wouldn’t chase them unless you really want them. Helzephyr is lowkey the best-looking one out of the alternatives. Other notable flying mounts I like but didn’t include in this list are:

Flying Mount

Why

Why It’s Not in the List

Vanwyrm

Decent early alternative to Helzephyr or Beakon

Outclassed too quickly

Quivern

Comfortable Suzaku alternative

Not better than Suzaku or Shadowbeak

Jetragon

One of the fastest flyers

Frostallion is better

Xenolord

Great movement and combat

Too hard to get, but if you’re willing, get it cause it’s still super strong

There are more flying mounts that I’m pretty sure are yet to be found, but that’s the list of the best mounts at the time of writing the article, extended with my own opinions on the flyers. I know it might be controversial to not include Jetragod and Xenolord in this list, even though I included Faleris, but I prioritized convenience over the raw stats, as I said in the introduction.

F.A.Q

What is the best flying mount in Palworld?

Frostallion and Frostallion Noct are the best endgame flying mounts in Palworld. They are fast, strong in combat, and reliable for late-game exploration. Jetragon and Xenolord are still great, too.

What is the best early flying mount in Palworld?

Helzephyr is my favorite early upgrade. Nitewing is easier to get first, but Helzephyr has better speed, stamina, and overall is just better.

What is the best flying mount progression route in Palworld?

The best progression path is Nitewing, followed by Helzephyr, then Suzaku, then Shadowbeak, and finally Frostallion or Frostallion Noct. If you’re willing to put in extra effort, then go for Jetragon or Xenolord.

Is Jetragon still the best flying mount in Palworld?

Jetragon is still extremely fast, but it’s outclassed by Frostallion, since it’s much harder to get Jetragon and Frostallion is a much easier and realistic goal.
