AION 2 Combat Power Guide

Combat Power in AION 2 is one of the things about the game that confuses people. Is it the same as your gear score? Is it your general power? If so, how is it calculated? This AION 2 Combat Power guide explains what it is, how it differs from item level, and most major ways to increase it. It’s pretty straightforward and won’t take much time before you become an expert on this topic.

AION 2 Combat Power Explained

Combat Power is the number AION 2 uses to summarize your character’s overall combat progression. Unlike gear score, which is a numeric value of your equipment’s potency and certain gear-related progression, CP comes from a much wider collection of stats and systems across your character. That includes things like:

  • Gear
  • Skills
  • Stigmas
  • Arcana
  • Daevanion

Think of gear score as “how developed is my equipment?” and Combat Power as “how developed is my whole character?”

Overall character stats and progression

DPS

Build Quality

How well your stats, Skills, and systems work together

Yeah, there are four ways to measure your character in AION 2. Is that enough? Funnily enough, not really. Despite the naming, Combat Power is not a DPS under a different name. Same as gear score isn’t the same as build quality. Combat Power is an approximate measure of your character’s potency shown in numbers, but it can’t perfectly show where this strength comes from.

Combat Power vs Gear Score in AION 2

Gear score and Combat Power can look similar because both numbers go up as your character improves, which confuses a lot of people, but they’re used for different things. Gear score is heavily tied to your equipment progression, while Combat Power is the broader stats gained from almost every important aspect of a character’s progression. This means two players with similar item level can have very different Combat Power. I tried to make a table that covers the difference between Combat Power and gear score for AION 2:

I think that I captured everything that changes Combat Power, but if I missed something, I’ll make sure to add it to this list later on. Funnily enough, even stuff like wings influences it. Now let’s talk about significant ways to increase it.

How to Increase Combat Power in AION 2

The thing with Combat Power is that you can’t just grind it. CP increases whenever you improve one of the systems that contributes to your stats, specifically combat ones, so its progress comes from stacking upgrades. Early on, Gear is what influences your character’s potency, but later progression is spread among skills, Arcana, and Stigmas. That’s why somebody who only farms new equipment eventually falls behind players who keep all of these systems moving together. The main Combat Power sources in AION 2 include:

  • Gear quality and upgrades
  • Gear Enhancement and Breakthrough
  • Active and Passive Skill levels
  • Stigma Skills
  • Daevanion Boards
  • Arcana
  • Soul Bindings
  • Manastones
  • Wings
  • Pets and Genus
  • Titles
  • Pantheon
  • Amulet and Belt

So upgrading and developing any of these things will automatically increase your Combat Power. While it’s a way to compare your character’s strength against other characters, don’t try to pursue these numbers. If you just focus on upgrading your gear for that CP increase, this won’t mean much if your skills aren’t developed, even though on paper you’re stronger than an enemy you fight in the Abyss.

Increase Combat Power Through Gear

Gear is the obvious source of CP because stronger equipment comes with more base stats and more room for additional growth. Weapon upgrades are especially noticeable for DPS classes, while defensive pieces are more important for tanks. AION 2 then stacks several upgrade systems on top of the base item, so getting a good drop is only the start of its progression. Gear progression includes things like:

  • Higher equipment grade
  • Enhancement
  • Breakthrough/amplification
  • Set bonuses
  • Manastones
  • Theostones
  • Potential
  • Soul Bindings

Don’t throw all your materials into every new item you find just to see the number grow. In general, try to only upgrade gear if it’s crucial for the current moment. For instance if you deal too low damage to a dungeon boss. This advice concerns only pre-45th level. After that, find a piece of equipment you like, and that’s where you can start upgrading your stuff seriously.

Increase Combat Power Through Skills

Skills directly contribute to Combat Power, so the Skill Progression guide connects very closely to this one. I’m not gonna retell the whole skill progression system, but you start out with skill points, then switch to Daevanion, and then the rest of the progression systems like Arcana and gear. Stigmas use their own progression system, but their levels also contribute to your overall strength. Your Skill progression goes roughly like this:

  1. Skill Points: Until level 10
  2. Daevanion: Until level 14
  3. Arcana: Targeted skill bonuses
  4. Soul Bindings: Additional skill bonuses found on gear
  5. Stigma Shards: Separate progression

Don’t level skills that your build doesn’t need to increase your CP, though. It’s a sure way to waste your potential. Your main Active Skills reaching important Specialty breakpoints will improve both the number and your actual combat performance.

Increase Combat Power Through Daevanion

Daevanion Boards are one of the biggest permanent progression systems in AION 2 because their nodes provide stats, skill levels, and other combat bonuses. Unlike upgrading a temporary piece of gear, Daevanion progression stays with your character, so every useful node remains relevant while your equipment changes. The boards also cover different stat categories, letting you work toward offensive, defensive, PvE, PvP, and Skill-related bonuses.

Increase Combat Power Through Arcana

Arcana is another major source of both stats and Skill levels. Each card works almost like another gear slot, giving you combat bonuses while some cards also add levels to Active or Passive Skills. Set bonuses add another layer on top of the already heavy progression system. When improving Arcana, look at these elements to raise your Combat Power:

  • Card quality
  • Card level
  • Relevant combat stats
  • Active/Passive Skill bonuses
  • Set bonuses
  • Whether the bonuses actually fit your class

Same as with gear, don’t chase Arcanas that will give you the highest Combat Power. Always look for ways to improve your skills first.

Increase Combat Power Through Stigma Skills

Stigmas are a separate skill system and one of the stronger long-term CP sources. Each class has multiple Stigma abilities, and you upgrade them using Stigma Shards, not Skill Points. Higher Stigma levels improve the skill and unlock additional effects, so investing in Stigmas raises Combat Power while also granting you huge combat upgrades. Here’s the order you want to prioritize them in:

  1. Stigmas used in your main build
  2. Build-defining damage/healing Stigmas
  3. Defensive or support Stigmas
  4. Secondary PvE/PvP options

I don’t want to repeat myself by saying the same thing for the tenth time, so let me just say that Stigmas are one of the biggest sources of Combat Power, so be sure to choose them wisely.

Other Ways to Increase Combat Power

Apart from the obvious ways of progression, AION 2 still has a long list of smaller ways to gain CP. Wings, Pets, Titles, Pantheon bonuses, Monolith progression, Amulets, Belts, and similar systems can all contribute permanent or semi-permanent stats. None of these are gonna have as large an impact as boosting your gear, but they quickly add up:

System

What it gives to CP

Wings

Combat stats and additional progression

Pets

Genus/collection stat bonuses

Titles

Extra character stats

Pantheon

Permanent stat progression

Amulet

Separate enhancements

Belt

Separate upgrades

Monoliths/collections

Additional permanent bonuses

So if you are a completionist, the game will take this into account and show everybody that you’ve been playing this game enough to get a chunk of CP off of collectibles alone. A lot of your long-term strength comes from progressing the entire account and character rather than farming the exact same boss forever.

Best Way to Increase Combat Power Fast

The fastest CP progression isn’t just dumping everything into Gear. Permanent systems are better in the long term because you keep those bonuses when an equipment piece gets replaced. Focus on keeping several reliable progression tracks moving at once instead of spending your entire budget trying to force one system ahead. The best way to increase Combat Power fast in AION 2 is:

  1. Equip meaningful Gear upgrades
  2. Level your main Active and Passive Skills
  3. Upgrade important Stigmas
  4. Progress Daevanion Skill/stat nodes
  5. Use proper Arcanas
  6. Improve long-term gear with enhancement
  7. Get Wings, Pets, Pantheon
  8. Progress the Monolith
  9. Expensive upgrades come dead last

Of course, the exact order will change depending on what your character is missing. I do not say that you shouldn’t upgrade a weapon if it’s trash. If your Skills are stuck several levels behind, fix those. If your Gear is already strong but Daevanion is untouched, another tiny enhancement level isn’t what you want to focus on. Simple stuff.

F.A.Q

What is Combat Power in AION 2?

Combat Power is an overall rating based on your character’s combat stats and progression systems. It includes much more than Gear, so Skills, Stigmas, Arcana, Daevanion, and other permanent bonuses can all increase the number.

What is the difference between Combat Power and Item Level in AION 2?

Item Level mainly represents your equipment progression, while Combat Power measures your character more broadly. Two players can therefore have similar Item Level but very different CP depending on their Skills, Stigmas, Arcana, Daevanion, and other upgrades.

How do you increase Combat Power fast in AION 2?

Keep several progression systems moving instead of putting every resource into Gear. Upgrading important Skills, Stigmas, Daevanion nodes, Arcana, and long-term equipment gives you CP while also improving your actual character.

Does higher Combat Power mean more DPS in AION 2?

Not always. Combat Power measures overall stat strength, while actual DPS also depends on stat distribution, Accuracy, Skill Specialties, rotation, uptime, and encounter mechanics. A lower-CP build with the right stats can outperform a badly optimized higher-CP one.

Should you always equip the item with more Combat Power in AION 2?

No. Check the actual stats before replacing a piece, especially Accuracy, class-specific offensive stats, Skill bonuses, and set effects. The better build is the one that performs better in the content you’re doing, not necessarily the one with the largest number on the character screen.
