Clash Royale Best Epic Cards 2026 Quick Summary:
- Epic cards are easier to ignore than Legendaries or Heroes, but some of them are still core parts of strong decks.
- The ranking is based on actual usefulness, Elixir value, deck variety, and how well each card performs in the current meta.
- Don’t upgrade every Epic just because it looks fun. Epic Wild Cards are limited, especially for F2P players.
- Some Epic cards are meta-dependent, while others stay useful even when balance changes shake everything up.

How This Clash Royale Epic Cards Tier List Works
Ranking stuff is always a difficult task. There are various metrics you can take into account (including various game modes where the card might be used) to identify what card is the best purely in a numbers kind of way. Where’s the fun in that? I think that an important key is taking your experience into account, however biased it might be. I’m ranking these cards based on how they perform now and my experience, not only on their theoretical and factual potential. Here’s what makes the best Epic cards in Clash Royale:
- Actual Usefulness: Usage rate to win rate says quite a lot, and you can identify if it’s you who can’t play or the card is to blame
- Elixir Value: Is the card profitable for your Elixir trades, or does it waste a lot and do a lot?
- Deck Variety: Some cards fit many deck types while others work only in one, but they’re very strong in it. Not the most important thing to take into account, but still.
Bear in mind that the data constantly fluctuates, and I’m risking sounding outdated even after a few hours since this article was posted. Royale API, where I obviously took all the data from, measures the winrate and shows how many games were played with the deck, so I’m picking the decks with at least 1000 matches where the Epic cards were used. If I took decks with 70% winrate and like 50 games played, that’d mean they’re really underused cause no way this deck wouldn’t be nerfed in a nanosecond if it had more play.
Clash Royale Epic Cards Tier List 2026

While there are plenty of good cards among Epics and in my opinion, Epics are severely underrated cards, I’m not putting every card with a 50+% win rate in S-Tier. Some of them are happy accidents, as Bob Ross would say. Here’s the Clash Royale Epic cards tier list as of 2026:
|
Tier |
Epic Cards |
|
S-Tier |
Barbarian Barrel, Lightning, Tornado, Cannon Cart, Hunter, Bowler |
|
A-Tier |
P.E.K.K.A, Giant Skeleton, Freeze, Rage, Baby Dragon, Dark Prince, Electro Giant |
|
B-Tier |
Poison, Goblin Drill, Guards, Prince, Wall Breakers, Balloon, Golem |
|
C-Tier |
Goblin Curse, Electro Dragon, X-Bow, Goblin Giant, Executioner, Witch |
|
D-Tier |
Goblin Barrel, Clone, Mirror |
S-Tier cards are the ones I suggest looking into first. If you have them and they’re already decently leveled, try deck archetypes where they fit. If you like any archetype, consider upgrading them as high as you can, but of course they’re not a priority to level, unless it’s an Evo version of the card. A-Tier cards are also strong and are pretty safe investments as they’re not the first to be targeted for nerfs, unlike S-Tier cards. B-Tier cards are the ones that can work in tandem with other cards, and they can even be wincons for the deck, but they’re just not in a good state right now. There are some staples of Clash Royale decks like Wall Breakers, Balloon, and Golem, and I’d say they are exceptions that you can invest in cause they’ll eventually return to form. C-Tier cards are usable, and they see some play here and there, but they’ve either been weak for some time like Executioner, or they’re not in a good state right now. D-Tier cards are the ones I wouldn’t touch with a stick.
S-Tier Epic Cards in Clash Royale
This is the only tier I’ll explain card by card, cause otherwise this article turns into a bloated info dump. The S-Tier cards are the dominants in this July 2026 meta, and it’s supported by their winrate and usage rate. I’ll add screenshots of those stats under each card description. Below are the best Epic cards of Clash Royale.
Barbarian Barrel - S-Tier

Barbarian Barrel is the current best Epic card in Clash Royale with 13% usage and 52% winrate. For 2 Elixir, you get a spell-like roll and a Barbarian body after it. It’s useful against bait, ground swarms, and bridge decks. The best part is that the Barbarian often forces one more reaction after the roll, so the opponent doesn’t get to ignore it.
Pros:
- 2 Elixir cost
- Great against Goblin Barrel, Skeleton Army, and ground swarm cards
- Leaves a Barbarian after the roll
- Fits Graveyard, Golem, Royal Giant, and control decks
Cons:
- Doesn’t hit air
- Short range compared to The Log
Barbarian Barrel rarely goes out of meta decks. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time it happened. It’s a very comfy card with a lot of value cause you get a minor spell, plus a unit. The unit isn’t strong, granted, but it can serve as a minor distraction for you to gain some Elixir and slow down the enemy. Even when it doesn’t fully remove a push, it usually buys enough time for a tower or support troop to finish the job.
Lightning - S-Tier

Lightning is the best Epic spell for heavy decks right now. It has 12% usage and 50% win rate stats, which is impressive for a 6 Elixir spell. Big spells can become dead weight when the meta is too fast, but Lightning has enough targets right now: Inferno Tower, Musketeer, Cannon Cart, Witch, Electro Wizard, and defensive clumps near towers.
Pros:
- Hits 3 targets with big damage
- Great with Golem and Electro Giant
- Punishes stacked defenses
- Strong against buildings and medium-HP troops
Cons:
- 6 Elixir is a serious commitment and requires building a deck around it
- Whiffing a spell is super punishing
If you enjoy beatdown decks, this is for you. Lightning gives heavy decks a way through enemy defenses that would otherwise stall them forever. Unless you’re into watching your Golem get incinerated by an Inferno Tower.
Tornado - S-Tier

Tornado is a card I didn’t expect to see that high, but here we are. The current data has Tornado at 9% usage and 51% win rate. The spell is quite potent now, and thanks to the bridge spam presence in this meta, it’s really good against Ronin and Hero Balloon. It’s a direct counter to them, hence the S-Tier, but once this meta passes or the cards it counters get nerfed, you can expect it to drop to B or C tier.
Pros:
- Activates King Tower against many win conditions
- Pairs with Bowler, Baby Dragon, Executioner, and Electro Giant
- Pulls troops into splash damage
- Can get in the way of Hog Rider, Hero Balloon, Graveyard, and Ronin
Cons:
- As with any spell, bad timing is a waste of elixir, though it’s not that punishing
- Needs certain skill
Tornado is not an auto-delete card. It requires you to play a few matches and screw up with the placement a few times. Plus you need to understand which cards you need to save it for. But once you know the pulls, it can turn games that should be losing matchups into very winnable ones.
Cannon Cart - S-Tier

Cannon Cart is straight out of the “annoying but useful” department. It has 3% usage and 54% win rate, which is a good indicator for a 5 Elixir ranged troop. It pressures lanes, defends the base, and after the shield breaks, it turns into a building for 15 seconds. You get a lot out of this card. Guess why it’s here? Of course, it’s all bridge spam.
Pros:
- Ranged pressure
- Turns into a building after shield breaks
- Strong defense for 5 Elixir
- Great in control and heavier decks
Cons:
- Needs help against air
- Swarms counter it
Cannon Cart is great because it forces the opponent to spend Elixir to get past it, and usually you are left with Elixir surplus. If the opponent spends too much on it, your next attack gets easier. They’re unlikely to ignore it, but if they do, it will deal some serious tower damage.
Hunter - S-Tier

Hunter is my favorite Epic card cause I’ve been playing Evo RG Royal Pigs for quite some time. The usage is only 3%, but the win rate is 52%. That usually means one thing - casuals ain’t spamming it, but people who are in the know are using it to climb. Of course I’m just biased, but it’s really strong right now and mainly cause you can use it to counter Ronin, especially if you pair it up with Fisherman.
Pros:
- Huge damage if all bullets land
- Great against tanks and Balloon
- Strong for 4 Elixir defense
- Punishes Hog Rider, Ram Rider, Giant, and melee pushes
Cons:
- Weak from long range
- Bad placement makes him useless
Hunter is very satisfying to play. He just deletes anything that get too close. Put him near a tank, and he does disgusting damage, plus he can even survive a hit from P.E.K.K.A, not to mention smaller tanks. Put him far away, and he politely sneezes at the target and becomes one himself. Unfortunately, when he gets swarmed, he does absolutely nothing, and even a Goblin Barrel can kill him if properly placed.
Bowler - S-Tier

Bowler is one of the best Clash Royale Epic cards in 2026. He has 4% usage and 52% win rate, and he benefits from a meta where Tornado, Electro Giant, and Graveyard are all played.
Pros:
- Great against ground attackers
- Knocks back medium troops
- Pairs very well with Tornado
- Strong in Graveyard and Electro Giant decks
Cons:
- Can’t hit air
- Struggles when troops are spread out
If you hate Bridge Spam, Hog pushes, Drills, and overall ground spam, Bowler is for you. He’s slow, yes, but the ability to send a bowl that damages everyone in its way is hard to underestimate.
A-Tier Epic Cards
A-Tier cards are strong, and they fit a lot of good deck types, but they’re not as potent as S-Tier ones. Usually these are the cards that aren’t fully meta and are just strong, which arguably can be even better. Some of them are close to S-Tier, especially P.E.K.K.A and Giant Skeleton, but they need better matchups or more specific cards to support them. This is a list of strong Epic cards in Clash Royale:
|
Epic Card |
Why It’s A-Tier |
|
P.E.K.K.A |
Buffed from 816 to 842 damage, but still very matchup-dependent |
|
Giant Skeleton |
Great defense that can turn into attack, and if not, the death bomb deals with attacking troops |
|
Freeze |
Dangerous finisher in Balloon and Graveyard decks |
|
Rage |
Cheap spell for pressure decks |
|
Baby Dragon |
Got a July buff, better in heavier splash decks |
|
Dark Prince |
Strong stats, but isn’t very strong in top lobbies |
|
Electro Giant |
Buffed from 3855 to noticeable 3952 HP in July |
Supercell buffed P.E.K.K.A damage by 3% and Electro Giant HP by 3% in the July 2026 balance update. Baby Dragon also got buffed cause its base form was underperforming. All three move higher because of that, but not high enough to beat Tornado, Lightning, Hunter, or Cannon Cart yet.
B-Tier Epic Cards
B-Tier cards are very playable, and you shouldn’t scoff at them. I just wouldn’t spend Epic Wild Cards on them before cards above them, unless your deck already uses them and you have no plans to switch.
|
Epic Card |
Main Issue |
|
Poison |
Only 46% win rate in recent data |
|
Goblin Drill |
Playable but not that much of a threat in meta |
|
Guards |
Quite useful defense in some off-meta decks |
|
Prince |
Hits hard but most meta decks kill him too fast |
|
Wall Breakers |
Outclassed by other better tower attacker options |
|
Balloon |
Dangerous, but is very matchup-dependent |
|
Golem |
Works pretty well with Lightning, but very expensive |
Poison is the big surprise here. I don’t even know if I can call it a downgrade cause for me Poison was always an outlier and I barely saw any decks that would slot it in, but current data has it at 8% usage and 46% win rate. Golem is still strong, but you’ll probably pair it with Lightning, and that’s far too expensive even in 2x Elixir. Decks with smaller troops will just flood you before you can launch your full-scale assault on the opponent’s tower.

C-Tier Epic Cards
C-Tier cards can still win games, but they’re wildly random or specific. These cards either need too much support from other cards for them to work, struggle with widely used decks, or are just outclassed by other cards.
|
Epic Card |
Why It’s Low |
|
Goblin Curse |
Low usage and 49% win rate, which means it’s even worse than it seems |
|
Electro Dragon |
Too expensive |
|
X-Bow |
Way too matchup-based right now, plus really hard to play |
|
Goblin Giant |
Not enough reason to pick over stronger win conditions |
|
Executioner |
Returned to slumber |
|
Witch |
Too easy to punish for 5 Elixir |
Executioner is the one card I kinda feel bad about. His Evolution got nerfed in July, with close-range damage going from 268 to 240 and range going from 3.5 to 2.5 tiles. He was good for a moment, but now it’s bad again. The regular Executioner also has rough current stats, which doesn’t help.
D-Tier Epic Cards
Using these cards is just a meme at this point, especially Clone and Mirror, which are among the worst cards in the game. Winning with them is closer to a miracle even if you’re a strategic genius.
|
Epic Card |
Why I’d Avoid It |
|
Goblin Barrel |
Around 29% win rate |
|
Clone |
Very risky for a questionable result |
|
Mirror |
Around 33% win rate |
Goblin Barrel’s winrate numbers are brutal, it’s the worst it’s ever been right now. Mirror is not much better. Clone is such a gamble card that you can only enjoy playing it if you like to pull off crazy random outplays, but even though Clash Royale is a card game, it’s far from gambling. Just don’t use it where you risk losing points.
Best Epic Cards to Upgrade First in Clash Royale
If you’re a free-to-play player and can only spend so much on Epic Wild Cards, you’ll find this part very useful since upgrading cards can be a stressful task. Investing in the current S-Tier is not always the move because the meta changes far too often for an f2p player to be able to spend their Wild Cards every month. Don’t be surprised to see some B and C-Tier cards present here. Here are the best Epic cards to upgrade first:
- Barbarian Barrel
- Hunter
- Golem
- Balloon
- X-Bow (if you know how to play it)
- Lightning
- P.E.K.K.A
The rest of the upgrades are up to you, but these seven cards are always in a pretty good condition. Even if they fall out of meta for a month or two, they’ll eventually reinvent themself and become meta again.
- Barb Barrel is a card with lots of value
- Hunter is the best tank killer in the game
- Golem is a staple of beatdown decks, so when they’re meta again, you’ll be glad you’ve spent your Wild Cards on it
- Balloon is another wincon that frequently returns to the best meta decks
- X-Bow is difficult, but if you know how to play it, you can have decent win% even when playing it in off-meta decks
- Lightning is really strong, but is far too expensive for most players
- P.E.K.K.A is just a good tank, especially if you are a newer player and barely have any options for big hitters.
Obviously, Epic cards are pretty awkward, and you won’t find most of them in the top of the best cards in the game with a few exceptions, but the fact that you have a few wincons among them and some really crucial cards for many decks is a signifier that you shouldn’t ignore them just cause they’re not Legendaries or Heroes.
F.A.Q
What are the best Epic cards in Clash Royale?
The best Epic cards are the ones that provide strong Elixir value, fit multiple deck types, and perform well in the current meta. Some are defensive staples, some are spells, and some are win-condition support cards.
What Epic card should I upgrade first?
Upgrade the Epic cards that fit decks you already play. For safer long-term value, prioritize cards that stay useful across several metas instead of chasing one temporary balance-patch winner.
Are Epic cards better than Legendary cards?
Not always, but some Epic cards can absolutely compete with Legendaries. Rarity doesn’t decide strength in Clash Royale, especially when a card has strong utility or fits several deck archetypes.
What makes an Epic card good in Clash Royale?
A good Epic card usually gives strong Elixir trades, fits several decks, handles common threats, and doesn’t need perfect matchups to be useful.
