Diablo 4 Skovos Areas

Skovos is a new region introduced in season 13, where the story of Lord of Hatred takes place. In this expansion, you’ll discover one of the most history-rich regions of the whole Sanctuary. After all, it’s the birthplace of Inarius and Lilith, as well as the firstborn. It’s a much more compact region than Nahantu was, but it’s as chock-full of various activities and areas to discover. In this article, I’ll focus on all activities and points of interest that will allow you to get your Renown fast. There are plenty of places to explore. Let’s briefly go over all Diablo 4 Skovos activities:
- Strongholds: Three big strongholds, Xanderos, Saltwind, and Cosmic Archives. You’ll access them as you progress through the campaign.
- Side Quests: Whopping 50 side quests scattered all over the region.
- Dungeons: 11 new dungeons waiting to be explored
- Chronicles of Creation: Altars of Lilith in disguise. Works like a middle ground between Altars and Tenets of Akarat, providing XP and Renown.
There are also 8 waypoints that count towards the region completion progress:
- Temis: Main hub waypoint.
- Vision’s End: Philios region.
- Temple of Life: Lycander region.
- Xanderos: Stronghold waypoint.
- Athulua Garrison: Athulua region.
- Saltwind: Stronghold waypoint.
- Tyrael’s Encampment: Celestia region.
- Fool’s Quarry: Skartara region.
Waypoints reward you with 20 Renown when discovering them. Now, let’s move on and talk about various aspects of Skovos. This guide is mostly a list of all points of interest without delving too deeply into each of them. We will likely break them down in separate articles, and I’ll add the links to each section as they appear on the website.
Temis

Temis is the capital city of the Skovos Isles. It’s most reminiscent of Greek and Mediterranean architecture with its large marble walls and statues. It’s the main hub city of the expansion. Though it’s designed to be an endgame area, you’ll visit it many times while progressing through the plotline of Lord of Hatred. You can find new engame activity, War Plans, here, as well as Horadric Cube (LINK), and other vendors in a really small circle surrounding the waypoint.
Skovos Strongholds

Skovos has three strongholds: Xanderos, Saltwind, and Cosmic Archives. You can see their location marked on the image above. They’re accessible only while progressing through the campaign and cannot be unlocked before reaching certain story points. Here’s a list of all Skovos Strongholds in Diablo 4:
- Xanderos: An old proving ground, built to test the warrior’s limits in combat. To complete it, you need to deal with three trials. All trials are basically enemy waves, between which you’ll fight bosses.
- Saltwind: In this stronghold, you’ll face hordes of cultists and sea monsters worshipping a Fathomless One. You’ll need to break the idols first, clear the waterways, and then fight the aforementioned abomination inspired by H.P. Lovecraft.
- Cosmic Archives: This stronghold will make you accompany Seers on their way to freeing their sisters and fighting off demons and fighting the corrupted Seer Ludea. Perhaps the most straightforward stronghold.
Among the three, my favorite one has to be Saltwind. I just love the old sailor horror stories, and it reminded me of Old Hunters DLC from Bloodborne. Completing all strongholds grants XP, loot, and Renown. Don’t forget to check the loot drops, as now you can get Greater Affixes even on Common gear.
Skovos Side Quests

Skovos has exactly 50 side quests. At least that I know of. This section is not going to focus on each side quest walkthrough. I’ll simply list them so that you can quickly refer to the table and see which quests you’ve completed and which you are yet to complete. I’ll split the table into regions and list the quests in alphabetical order. Below are all Skovos side quests in Diablo 4:

Fishing in Lord of Hatred

Three quests from the list, specifically Favor for a Favor, The One That Got Away, and The Fish of Dreams, are tied to a new feature in Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred, which is Fishing. Here’s how to catch fish in Diablo 4:
- Travel to the south of the Philios region, as shown on the map above
- Find the quest giver named Shi Yugong
- Accept the quest that will teach you how to catch fish
After completing the introductory quest, you’ll be able to add the Fishing emote to your action wheel. I recommend using a hotkey for it if you’re on PC. Now you can fish near any bodies of water! This new feature is not just a novelty. You can actually catch fish of various rarities, ranging from Common to Mythic Unique. Fish is a consumable that doesn’t do anything apart from being a collectible. You can also sell it, but it’s not that profitable.
Skovos Dungeons

Just like in the previous section, this will serve as more of a checklist of dungeons. Unfortunately, I didn’t complete all of the dungeons yet, so I can’t give you even the briefest description of them. I’m not listing the story dungeons, cause they’re not the ones you’ll be grinding once you complete the story. You can check the dungeons in the image above. Here’s a list of all Skovos dungeons in Diablo 4:
|
Location |
Dungeon |
|
Philios |
Seer’s Reach |
|
Philios |
Grim Haven |
|
Temis |
The Aegoye |
|
Lycander |
Tormented Forest |
|
Lycander |
Dark Refuge |
|
Athulua |
Bewitched Grotto |
|
Atanos |
The Hinterland |
|
Atanos |
Refuge of the Lost |
|
Celestia |
Basaltic Ascent |
|
Skartara |
Cataclysm |
|
Skartara |
Scorched Tunnels |
These dungeons have completely new visuals, though you’ll likely get used to their layout while progressing through the main story. There are some gorgeous visuals to be found in them, but I’m not gonna spoil them.
Chronicles of Creation

The Skovos’ version of Altars of Lilith. Unlike Altars, they sometimes require you to solve simple puzzles. If you find the Weathered Shrines, don’t be confused. These are just Chronicles of Creation that need to be activated. Usually, you just need to turn the Inarius and Lilith statues towards the Shrines to earn XP and Renown. In the image above, you can see all Chronicles of Creation locations on Skovos. There are exactly 30 of them found on the archipelago.
Skovos Renown Progress
New region means new Renown rewards to earn. To get all 6 bonus Paragon Points, you’ll have to clear out all activities on Skovos, such as:
- Unlocking all Waypoints: +20 Renown for each
- Clearing out all three Strongholds: +100 Renown for each
- Completing all Side Quests: +30 Renown for each
- Clearing all Dungeons: +40 Renown for Each
- Finding all Chronicles of Creation: +10 Renown for Each
- Discovering all Areas: +5 Renown for each
And here are the Renown rewards for clearing out Skovos in Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred:
|
Threshold |
200 |
500 |
900 |
1400 |
2000 |
|
Base Rewards |
Bonus XP, 100 Gold |
Bonus XP, 1000 Gold |
Bonus XP, 10,000 Gold |
Bonus XP, 100,000 Gold |
Bonus XP, 1,000,000 Gold |
|
Bonus Rewards |
+1 Skill Point |
+1 Skill Point |
+80 Obol Cap |
+4 Paragon Points |
+2 Paragon Points |
To speed up the Renown threshold progression, I advise doing the activities in the following order: Unlock all Waypoints → Clear Strongholds → Clear Dungeons → Side Quests → Chronicles of Creation. This way, you’ll maximize the Renown earnings, given you’ve already completed the storyline and unlocked the whole map. There’s not much point in clearing everything before you unlock full access to all Skovos Regions.
Extra skill and Paragon points will come in really handy in the new best builds for Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred. Even though they’re not mandatory, if you intend on pushing the leaderboards, then it’s mandatory to have them, as every little thing counts.
