League Starter Build Tier List Quick Overview:
- S-Tier builds are the safest picks.
- The best overall builds are Twister Deadeye, Grenade Witchhunter, Whirling Assault Titan, Lunar Assault Werewolf Oracle, Spiral Volley Poison Pathfinder, and Whirling Assault Martial Artist.
- A-Tier builds are close behind, but they usually come with one extra condition, like a later swap, specific gear, or a more involved rotation.
- Lower-tier builds are not useless, but they are harder to recommend for most players starting fresh in 0.5 Runes of Aldur.
- I ranked these builds mainly by ascendancy power, league start comfort, gear requirements, campaign performance, and how well each build transitions into mapping.

The builds here are placed into tiers related to their respective ascendancies. If an Ascendancy is s-tier in 0.5, the chances are that the build is also s-tier.

Below, I’ve included short breakdowns of some of the best league starter builds for PoE 2, 0.5. I tried to make them as short as possible in order not to blow this out of proportion for no reason. If you’re interested in specific stats as well as info on at what point these builds start working or how long it's going to take to clear the campaign with them, just follow the links I attached. Not all build authors provide this information, so I left it out. You can find the full builds on Maxroll and Mobalytics.
S-Tier League Starters
S-Tier builds are the best league starter choices for PoE 2 0.5 Runes of Aldur. These builds offer great early progression, reliable damage, and a clear path into mapping. Some start with their final skill right away, while others use a smoother campaign setup before swapping later.
Twister Deadeye Build

This is an insanely spammy build that revolves around two skills - Spear’s Whirling Slash and Twister. Whirling Slash creates up to 3 wind vortices, which are consumed by Twister, and that in turn multiplies, filling out the entire screen!
The best thing about it is that it works from level 1 and it doesn’t change much throughout your journey to the endgame.
Another great thing is that the build doesn’t technically require any uniques to work. Although the author, Legi, does recommend using the following two:
- Wake of Destruction to imbue your Twisters with Lightning damage
- Serpent’s Egg, which doubles frenzy charges
Until you get those, you’ll be using Ice-Tipped Arrows to imbue Twisters with Cold damage and make them explode. From the Deadeye ascendancy, you’ll use mainly the Avidity for more Frenzy Charges, Thrilling Chase to consume said charges, and Called Shots.
Grenade Witchhunter Build

It’s a simple build that makes everything on the screen go boom. It’s highly flashy, and I wouldn’t recommend it to photo-sensitive players, but it’s one of those builds that made me feel safe playing the game as a Merc.
The general idea is to blind and stun enemies with Flash Grenades and then send them to ancestors with Explosive Grenades coupled with Oil and Gas fields for extra crispy fry! This build actually works on all 3 Ascendancies, but I chose Witchhunter, as it's the absolute meta Ascendancy class for Merc. Even though it did take a few hard nerfs from 35% - 50% less Armour/Evasion, which can be balanced out with gear.
This is another build that doesn’t need any uniques to start off, but if you can get The Three Dragons unique later on to add Shock to the build, it would be great. The main thing about the weapon, though, is not rarity, but the best roll of Physical damage and extra Fire damage. And don’t forget about the attack speed.
The whole build revolves around not more than 3 skills. Depending on the situation, you’ll be using a different combination of Explosive Grenades, Flash Grenade, and Cluster. Sometimes using the Gas Grenade.
Whirling Assault Titan Build

Do you love a Warrior that does that spinny move? Personally, I don’t care which ARPG I’m playing; I’m always looking for a build that revolves (pun intended) around whatever ability or skill makes my character spin their weapon like a living tornado. There’s something deeply satisfying about it.
Anyway, this Whirling Assault build is for the Titan Ascendancy. Needless to say, this build is all about making that Whirling Assault skill your primary one. The Hulking Form Titan’s passive increases the AoE range by half, making your whirlwind attack truly screen-sized.
You’ll be boosting your damage with the Matra of Destruction buff for building combo points and the Charged Staff spell on a Quarterstaff as your secondary weapon to add lightning damage. All of this added to Berserk buff to boost your Rage.
Now, you’re gonna need a few uniques to make it work:
- The Brass Dome - for an insane amount of armor and survivability when also coupled with Stone Skin passive.
- Undying Hate jewel - adds +8 to every passive node in its radius, also helps with making this build as tanky as possible
- Constricting Command Viper Cap - for a budget version of the build
- Ryslatha’s Coil - an optional unique for extra damage and less Charm charge usage
- Headhunter - for more stun threshold
Anyway, you can make the build work with any of these, as long as you get yourself that Brass Dome. The rest of the really important items are all actually lineage gems.
Lunar Assault Werewolf Oracle Build

As someone who has started playing Druid for the first time in 0.5, having skipped 0.4 entirely due to various reasons, I’ve been looking for a great Druid build. And even though I ended up using a bear-centric build, this Lunar Assault Werewolf build is absolute meta. Unlike the bear build, which focuses on stomping enemies and creating fiery fissures, this is an agile werewolf build with a focus on Cold and Lightning damage.
The combo is very simple: jump with Pounce, freeze enemies with Lunar Assault, and finally tear them apart with Shred. That’s the gist. But it, obviously, has more than just that to offer. Lunar Blessing adds moonbeams, Arctic Howl adds more cold damage, and Rend is a quick turn into a Wyvern for extra Lightning damage. Important Oracle’s passives are:
- The Unseen Path - unlocks even more hidden passives and better pathing
- Enwined Realities - provides even more shortcuts by allowing you to unlock non-keystone passives in a medium radius, but they are not connected to each other
Jumping from passive to passive without having to follow connections is a unique characteristic of Oracle Druids, and it comes in handy when you’re unlocking stuff like the fourth Ascendancy node.
Spiral Volley Poison Pathfinder Build

How would you like to spin like a warrior and shoot out volleys of poisonous arrows that also ricochet? Well, this is what this Pathfinder Ranger build is about. This is by no means a new build, but it still works as one of the best league starters in the game. Although, it has also been hit by some nerfs, especially when it comes to Overwhelming Toxicity, which now grants 50% less Poison Duration, which was 35% previously.
Here’s what makes this build work:
- Spiral Volley - poisons enemies it hits + breaks armor with Corrosion and Armor Break 3
- Overwhelming Toxicity from Pathfinder doubles the poisons applied to enemies
- Gas Arrow, Toxic Growth, and Despair for high burst damage against bosses.
- Withering Presence increases the chaos damage that enemies take
- Despair reduces chaos Resistance of enemies
Optional uniques for this build include Plaguefinger to convert all damage to poison damage. Other options include Sliver Zealot Bow, Voltaxic Rift Bow, and Cadiro’s Gambit for endgame.
Whirling Assault Martial Artist Build

This build is special because it is based on the newest, third Ascendancy for Monk - Martial Artist. If you want to read up on what it does, check out my updated Monk guide.
I’m super happy that the Ascendancy that’s just been added has been able to produce meta builds that even the biggest YouTubers and streamers enjoy. So, let’s talk about the build.
Whirling Assault is the same skill used by the Warrior’s build of the same name, but here it works differently. It uses Herald of Ice and Armor Explosion to chain kills and increase the area of effect. But for leveling you’ll be using Hollow Palm Technique early on to avoid needing Quarterstaff at all!
Another great thing about this build is that it doesn’t need any uniques at all. That said, towards the endgame, you might want to consider using Alith’s Chimes support gem with Way of the Stonefist that makes your gloves turn into weapons. This can be further upgraded with Strongest league gems like Garukhan’s Resolve, Atalui’s Bloodletting, and others.
How did I rank these builds?
As any tier list out there, mine is totally subjective, but I didn’t base my ranking on nothing. My main source was the Ascendancy class tier list from Maxroll. If you want to find a great starter build, start with the Ascendancy. Once you’ve decided which Ascendancy you want to use, finding good builds is easier. I went with the most popular builds. The S-tier builds were the easiest, while the rest of the builds and their ranking is based on where their respective Ascendancies landed on that tier list as league starters.

F.A.Q.
What is the best league starter build in PoE 2 0.5?
The best league starter depends on the class you chose, but some of the best builds are:
- Twister Deadeye,
- Grenade Witchhunter
- Whirling Assault Titan
- Lunar Assault Werewolf Oracle
- Spiral Volley Poison Pathfinder
- Whirling Assault Martial Artist
What makes a good league starter build in Path of Exile 2?
A good league starter build should ideally work as early in the campaign as possible and should not require any uniques to work.
Which PoE 2 league starter is best for Solo Self-Found?
Grenade Witchhunter is one of the safest SSF picks because it scales well with basic crossbow upgrades and does not need rare uniques. Twister Deadeye is another great choice if you want smoother clear and a build that can grow into endgame with regular gear.
Should I pick a leveling build or an endgame build first?
Pick a leveling build first if you are starting fresh. A good campaign build gets you into maps faster, then you can swap into the full endgame version once you have more gear, gold, and support gems.
Which PoE 2 league starter is best for mapping?
Whirling Assault Martial Artist is one of the best mapping starters because it has huge AoE clear, fast movement, and excellent scaling after the early-map weapon swap. Twister Deadeye and Spiral Volley Poison Pathfinder are also great mapping choices if you prefer ranged clear.
