WoW Forever 2026 Roadmap Explained

WoW Forever has a more to-the-point opening schedule than that of Vanilla Classic back in 2019. Devs are giving players around a month for leveling, working through professions, and getting the gear before the first raid. Not all content drops on release. We’ll have some time to get used to the updated game systems and new mechanics. I actually prefer this approach, cause you don’t exhaust all the content in the first few weeks. Here’s what we have on the WoW Forever Roadmap 2026:

November 4 is only the start. The Spring and Summer 2027 updates have already been shown, so Forever works around ongoing level 60 content rather than a short launch cycle. Now let’s take a look at all elements of the roadmap that have already been 100% confirmed.
WoW Forever Beta
The WoW Forever Beta started on September 17 and is currently live. It’s available for those who bought the Skyborne race. Originally launching with a level 20 cap, on October 1st it was raised to level 30, with more zones and content becoming available. The beta remains intentionally limited so that you don’t spoil all the fun before the full game drops. Players have already found lots of exciting things and even quests not present in the original game, as well as finding ways to enter the locked areas. As for the beta, the current schedule looks like this:
- September 17: Beta begins at level 20.
- October 1: Level cap increases to 30.
- October: More zones, dungeons, and systems enter testing.
- Server Slam: Limited open testing is planned for everyone.
- October 21: Final full day of beta testing.
The October 1 build also added Excavation Site: Wetlands as the next new dungeon available for testing. City of Dalaran was initially grouped with it in some early summaries, but it was clarified that Dalaran is coming in a later beta build.
WoW Forever Early Name Reservation
Early Name Reservation starts on October 27 and lasts through November 3, ending right before launch. Players with an eligible Forever upgrade can create and customize up to three characters during this period, with names claimed on a first-come, first-served basis. The biggest change that happened with Forever is the ability to have a two-part character name, which led to some… Dubious results. During early name reservation, you can:
- Create up to three characters
- Customize their appearance
- Choose their names
- Select faction, race, and class
- Prepare characters before launch
Your full character name has to be unique within your region, but two players can share the same first name if the second part is different. That should make launch-day naming a little less painful than Classic, although I’m sure, as it’s usually the case, that someone will already have the most outlandish name you’ve come up with.
WoW Forever Launch Date
World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST. You don’t have to buy anything to play the game. Access to Forever itself is included with a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. Everyone starts from level 1 on fresh Forever characters, and the game stays permanently capped at level 60 instead of moving through The Burning Crusade and later expansions, which means that the devs gonna develop the game in a different direction, likely going with new race and class releases, which has been shown in recent leaks. As much as I’d want to include it in this article, it’s about confirmed features, not something that is subject to change. Launch game includes a lot more than another Classic reissue:
|
Launch Content |
What’s Included |
|
Level Cap |
Permanent level 60 |
|
New Race |
Skyborne |
|
New/Expanded Regions |
Zephras Isle, Riverglades, Mount Hyjal, Shen’dralas |
|
New Dungeons |
Nine never-before-seen dungeons |
|
New Quests |
More than 1000 |
|

Legacy System |
|
Classes |
Reworked abilities, talents, and new race/class combinations |
|
Graphics |
Updated visuals with Classic-style options |
|
Transmog |
Optional transmog system |
The four major world additions are new zones, namely Zephras Isle, Riverglades, Mount Hyjal, and Shen’dralas, but Forever also adds new quests and stories throughout the original Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Riverglades alone has more than 150 quests, while Mount Hyjal finally becomes a proper explorable part of Vanilla-ish era Azeroth. Note that in order to visit Zephras Isle, you have to buy at least the Skyborne Heroic Pack. The new race isn’t included in the subscription.
WoW Forever Raids Release Date
Forever’s first raids unlock on December 9, 2026, giving players five weeks after launch before doing raids. Two of them are completely new raids made specifically for Forever, while Onyxia’s Lair returns as one of the familiar Vanilla encounters. Five weeks seems pretty reasonable to me, considering that the journey to level 60 is supposed to be the main focus, instead of the typical endgame grind. Kinda excited to see how it all works out. As for the raid release dates:
|
Raid |
Raid Size |
Release Date |
|
Barrow Deeps |
10-player |
December 9, 2026 |
|
Hyjal Summit |
20-player |
December 9, 2026 |
|
Onyxia’s Lair |
40-player |
December 9, 2026 |
Barrow Deeps is the smallest new endgame raid with eight bosses, while Hyjal Summit is a 20-player raid with 13 encounters. We also have confirmed info about new tier sets and a legendary reward connected to the new raid content, although the full legendary questline has not been revealed yet.
WoW Forever Hardcore Release
Hardcore is confirmed for WoW Forever, but it will not be available on November 4 at release. World of Warcraft’s ruleset system includes Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, and Hardcore, with Hardcore specifically marked as coming after launch. The roadmap places it in the winter window, but there is no exact release date yet. WoW Forever Hardcore includes several special rules:
- Its own separate servers from Normal
- Perma-death
- Normal progression cannot be transferred to Hardcore
- Hardcore achievements and rewards can be taken to Normal
- Dead Hardcore characters can transfer to Normal or RP
- Hardcore has its own Legacy Challenges
The Legacy part is especially interesting because the system is account-wide almost everywhere else. Legacy has some decent buffs that otherwise would make Hardcore easier if you’d first unlocked Normal Legacy points first and then tried Hardcore with them. However, if you get Legacy points on Hardcore, you can then transfer them to Normal.
What Comes After WoW Forever in 2026?
The roadmap does not end in December. Developers have already outlined major updates for Spring and Summer 2027, which is proof that Forever is intended to keep growing instead of just launching with a pile of Classic+ content and staying as is for a year, if you were worried about that. Both updates add new raids, dungeons, quests, and progression changes while sticking to level 60 being the absolute maximum. Upcoming updates include:
|
Update |
Planned Content |
|
Spring 2027 |
2 new raids, 2 new dungeons, new quests, new playable area, legendary questline, PvP season refresh |
|
Summer 2027 |
Revamped iconic raid, new raid, 2 new dungeons, expanded world content, PvP season refresh, Profession and Legacy updates |
The Spring 2027 update adds another 10-player and 20-player raid alongside two new dungeons, a playable area, additional quests, and a legendary questline. Summer goes even further with a revamped iconic raid, another new raid, two more dungeons, and further updates to Professions and the Legacy System. The revamped raids are still unnamed, but it’s probably gonna be either Scarlet Crusade, Karazhan, or Naxxramas, but don’t quote me on that. Who knows what awaits us in WoW Forever’s future? I hope the devs will deliver, but for now we can only speculate and wait.
