WoW Forever Skyborne Race Overview

Skyborne, or shen’dorei, are one of the new additions to WoW Forever. They are basically Forever’s new take on elves, but they aren’t just another Alliance race with a slightly different skin tone. To start off, they’re a neutral race that can join either faction, and that choice changes part of their identity, one available class, and one of their racials. The devs describe the race as having a shared ancestry but very different ideas about where they should go next. Horde-aligned Skyborne lean toward elemental traditions, while Alliance-aligned Skyborne focus more on the arcane legacy of their ancestors. Lore-wise, their ancestors were rebels who fled Eldre’Thalas after the War of the Ancients. They eventually found refuge in Skywall, where wind spirits helped anchor Zephras Isle in the elemental plane. That’s enough lore for this guide. The important part is that they come with their own 1-12 starting zone, classes, racials, and visuals.

How to Unlock Skyborne in WoW Forever

Let me turn down your excitement real quick. Skyborne is not included automatically with the base WoW subscription. WoW Forever itself is included with an active WoW Subscription or Game Time, but playing Skyborne requires at least the Skyborne Heroic Pack. That pack comes at $29.99 and includes access to the race and Zephras Isle. Developers are not as greedy as to just sell a race for this price tag, so the Heroic Pack also includes:

• Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount
• Shen’dorei Skyseer’s Garb
• Veteran Adventurer’s Rucksack
• Shen’dorei Windwell toy
• Skyborne Housing decor
• Early Name Reservation
• One Invite-A-Friend Launch Code

The Skyborne Epic Pack includes all of the above plus Beta access, 30 days of game time, more cosmetics, pets, tabards, and extra Invite-A-Friend codes. Do note that the Cerulean Prideclaw does not bypass learning Riding. You still must learn the appropriate riding skill before using it.

Skyborne Factions and Classes

Skyborne are one of the more flexible race choices in Forever because both factions get access to them. A wise choice, considering how players take things seriously when it comes to alignment with Alliance or Horde. Two classes are locked behind a faction choice. The neutral classes that can be used by both factions are:

• Warrior
• Hunter
• Rogue
• Druid

Then the faction choice adds one exclusive class:

• Alliance: Mage
• Horde: Shaman

That means the full options are:

Skyborne Faction	Available Classes
Alliance/High Order Skyborne	Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, Mage
Horde/Windshaper Skyborne	Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, Shaman

Notice that Warlock, Priest, or Paladin are not on the list, so if you wanted to play as one of the aforementioned classes, you’ll have to pick another race. For me, the most interesting choices are Druid, Mage, and Shaman. The Mage and Shaman are the expression of the faction split, while Druid gets unique Skyborne forms. That alone will make Druid one of the most popular Skyborne picks. The new forms match the race’s elemental, sky, and blue visual style rather than just recycling Night Elf or Tauren models. If you care about playing something visually unique, Skyborne Druid is the obvious pick.

 

 

Skyborne Racials

This is where Horde and Alliance do things differently. The faction racials are top-tier, so choosing one over the other can be a tough choice. Let’s first start with three common racials:

• Walk on Air: Lets you glide downward for 10 seconds.
• Wind Blessed: Passive 1% increased melee, ranged, and spellcasting Haste. The most universally useful Skyborne racial.
• Elemental Insight: Increases damage dealt to Elementals by 5%.

All of these are minor bonuses that, for me, don’t really define the faction, especially that 5% Elementals damage increase. Then each faction gets one unique active racial.

Alliance Skyborne: Read Ley Line

High Order Skyborne can activate a ley line to gain 100% increased Health and Mana regeneration. This is more of a downtime/convenience racial than something that you’ll use during combat. It looks particularly nice on Mage or Druid while leveling, where reducing time spent eating and drinking is always welcome.

Horde Skyborne: Skysight

Windshaper Skyborne receive an Elemental Blessing that increases run speed by 10%. This one is immediately useful for basically everyone, especially before mounts you unlock mounts.

Between the two, I prefer Skysight for leveling and general exploration. Read Ley Line can save a decent amount of downtime on Mana-heavy characters, though. These values are current as of the pre-launch/Beta data and are subject to change before November, so if the final values are slightly different, you know why.

 

 

Zephras Isle Starting Zone

All Skyborne begin on Zephras Isle, which takes them from Level 1 to 12. The zone has a heavy elemental and Skywall theme, kind of reminds of Skyward Sword. Devs describe it as a skybound starting experience combining old Warcraft aesthetics with architecture inspired by Skywall. What’s important is that you choose your faction at character creation, so Skyborne aren’t like Pandaren, who start neutral and then decide later. You enter Zephras already aligned with Horde or Alliance. That faction decision then determines:

• Mage or Shaman access
• High Order or Windshaper sub-faction alignment
• Read Ley Line or Skysight racial

Other than that, both sides share the same starting zone and race identity.
