WoW Forever Class Tier List - All Classes Ranked

First, let’s rank classes in general. They all got some major changes; all specs got their talents changed, and spells and abilities were shuffled around.

Tier

WoW Forever Classes

S-tier

Mage, Paladin

A-tier

Shaman, Hunter, Priest, Warlock

B-tier

Druid, Rogue, Warrior

I don't have a C- or D-Tier class right now. The whole direction of WoW Forever is making previously questionable specs more legitimate without turning every class into the same thing. And so far, I think they’re doing a good job, which is why C and D tiers are missing for now. That is exactly how Classic-style class design should work, in my opinion.

How this Tier List Works

WoW Forever changes classes much more than I originally expected. What everybody liked about Vanilla and, therefore, Classic was the class identity, meaning each class had a very specific set of abilities and things only it could do. Well, WoW Forever still has that, but these major changes that we’re seeing across all classes and specs are meant to bring back some of the shittiest specs. Well, at least they’re trying to. And no, Paladins are not busted now.

This WoW Forever class tier list is based on everything I’ve seen from the beta so far, the BlizzCon panels, early gameplay, talent trees from the caclulator, and class testing shared by others. It is definitely not a final launch ranking. Numbers can change quickly during beta, and I expect several specs to move before release.

Obviously I had to make two tier lists - one for classes and one for specs. Not all specs are created equal, or rather, not all specs have had good changes. So, again, the first ranking looks at every class as a complete package. The second ranks all 27 specs individually.

S-Tier WoW Forever Classes

Mage

Mage is probably the easiest S-Tier pick right now. I mean, what did you expect? An S-tier priest? Come on.

Mage back in Classic was already ridiculous. You had excellent control, AoE, teleports, portals, free food and water, fast leveling, and fantastic PvP utility. WoW Forever didn’t need to change any of that, and they didn’t.

Instead, the devs are fixing the weaker Mage specs. Specifically, the Arcane spec. My goodness, does the Arcane Blast finally gives the spec a real core spell. Missile Barrage adds an actual combo rather than just spamming one button. Arcane also keeps Arcane Power, Evocation, huge variety of useful tools, and all the usual Mage control. I genuinely think Arcane could become one of Forever's strongest raid DPS specs. Fire mage also looks much more enjoyable. Hot Streak makes Pyroblast relevant beyond being an opener. Fire keeps its crit-heavy identity but gets more things to react to.

Frost is the weird one. I still expect it to be good for leveling, dungeons, and PvP. Its raid damage worries me more. The reduced Blizzard slow also hurts the completely degenerate AoE farming Classic Mages became famous for. But that does not knock Mage out of S-Tier for me. Even if Frost ends up average in raids, Arcane and Fire cover that weakness. The class still has arguably the best control package in the game.

Paladin

Paladin might have received the most important changes in Forever. The biggest reason is the Protection spec.

Classic Protection Paladin always had this frustrating feeling where the foundation almost worked. Great AoE threat was there. Holy damage was there. interrupts were there. Then you reached situations where not having a proper taunt became impossible to ignore.

WoW Forever finally fixes that. Seal of Fury gives Protection a proper tanking seal. Judging it works as a taunt. Improved Seal of Fury helps with mana, while Iron Creed improves threat and mitigation.

Then there is Templar's Bulwark.

An emergency absorb based on maximum health is exactly the thing every Protection Paladin needed. From the footage I've seen, Prot looks like one of the biggest winners of the entire class rework. Seriously.

Compared to that, the Holy spec stays extremely dependable. It still specializes in excellent single-target healing and huge range of buffs and debuffs. Light's Vigil gives it some group-healing potential without completely deleting that weakness.

Retribution is still kind of “meh”. Holy Strike makes Ret feel more active. Judgment no longer consuming your Seal is another massive quality-of-life improvement. Twist of Light also formalizes Seal twisting as part of the intended gameplay. I just don't know if the numbers are there yet. Ret looks way better than Vanilla Ret. That does not automatically mean its good enough compared to the strongest melee specs.

Still, when Protection looks this strong, and Holy is still reliable, Paladin deserves S-Tier. And yes, Undead Paladin makes the whole class approximately 30% cooler. I don't make the rules.

A-Tier WoW Forever Classes

Shaman

Shaman might end up proving me wrong and jumping into S-Tier. All three specs got something meaningful. Elemental finally has Lava Burst and Lightning Overload. That gives the rotation another actual spell to care about. Free duplicated casts are especially valuable for a spec historically limited by mana.

That last part is still my biggest concern. Elemental can probably throw out some disgusting burst. I want to see how that mana bar looks during longer encounters.

I’ve actually played Shaman during Shadowlands in retail, so I know a little about what I’m talking about, but for this one I’m relying more on what other players are saying.

That said, Enhancement keeps the two-handed fantasy, which I love. I don’t think it ever took the cake for being the best spec, but Stormstrike feels better, Maelstrom Weapon adds instant casting opportunities, and Rage of the Far Seer gives Enhancement a real offensive cooldown.

Then there is Restoration. Resto was already built around one of Classic's strongest healing spells, Chain Heal. Now it gets Riptide, Water Shield, better mana tools, and easier Totem management. So, I think Restoration Shaman will be one of the best healers to bring anywhere.

Add the usual Totem utility, and Shaman looks excellent.

Hunter

Hunter is another class where I don't see a genuinely bad tree. And when the Hardcore hits in December, I’ll be probably maining a hunter. Provided I make it alive until the first pet, of course.

Beast Mastery is the best pick. Simple and reliable. Summon Hawk adds another thematic pet combo without changing why BM works. Your pet does a lot of the dirty work, which is still incredible for leveling and solo content. And that’s how it should be

Marksmanship gets much more interesting.

Lone Wolf lets you abandon the pet completely. Sniper Shot pushes the ranged sniper fantasy much harder. Aimed Shot becoming baseline also opens the tree for more useful choices.

The tuning will decide how high Marksman ultimately climbs.

Survival is the biggest question mark and possibly the most interesting Hunter spec. One of the WoW Forever class breakdowns I used also describes Survival as the Hunter tree with the most extensive changes, with the devs clearly trying to turn melee Hunter into a legitimate playstyle. Mongoose Bite, Lacerating Strikes, Strider Kick, traps, Hunter's Mark combos, and melee-oriented talents finally connect together.

I bet somebody finds an absolutely disgusting Survival build during beta. My only hesitation is melee dependency. A melee Hunter needs more group support than a ranged Hunter does. That can matter a lot in Classic-style raids.

Still, three promising DPS specs make Hunter an easy A-Tier class.

Priest

Priest is priest. You got heals for days and the changes that make it even better. Discipline gains Penance, Divine Aegis, Soul Warding, and other tools that strengthen its support-heavy identity. It feels much closer to a complete specialization now. Holy gets Prayer of Mending and Binding Heal. Those are enormous additions for a traditional raid healer. Prayer of Mending alone makes me very interested in Holy. Add better mana management and the standard Priest healing toolkit, and I expect Holy to perform extremely well in raids.

Shadow might surprise you too. The biggest thing Shadow needed was help with mana. Mobalytics' WoW Forever class breakdown also highlights the Shadowform changes as a major improvement, increasing Shadow spell efficiency and, more importantly, mana management. Devouring Plague is now baseline for all Priests too, giving Shadow another reliable source of pressure.

Shadow still brings Priest dispels on top.

I don't have Priest in S-Tier because, well, it’s a healer. Everyone needs one, but good luck leveling up. On paper, though, all three specs are pretty great now.

Warlock

Affliction is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Periodic damage can crit now. Affliction gets stronger combos between DoTs and drains. Drain Hope increases your other Shadow DoT damage, while Pandemic improves critical scaling. That sounds nasty. Affliction already had great sustain. Forever is giving it more damage combos without removing the reason players enjoy the spec.

Destruction also looks strong. Incinerate joins the toolkit. Bane of Havoc creates cleave opportunities. Shadow and Flame encourages switching between the two damage schools rather than committing completely to one. I expect Destruction to be particularly good whenever multiple targets are involved. Demonology is what keeps Warlock outside S-Tier for me.

Its pet fantasy looks much better. Demonic Knowledge, Demonic Energies, and improved pet talents create interesting possibilities.

For solo play, I think Demo could be absurd. For endgame damage, I'm less convinced. Affliction simply looks much more complete right now.

B-Tier WoW Forever Classes

Druid

Druid is difficult to rank because some of its changes are genuinely excellent.

Balance might be one of my favorite reworks.

Eclipse pushes you to alternate between Wrath and Starfire. Other talents reward switching between Nature and Arcane damage. That already sounds much healthier than endlessly spamming one spell.

Mana support also looks better.

Restoration gets Wild Growth, better mana regeneration, and the normal Druid HoT toolkit. Druids finally get a normal out-of-combat resurrection too.

That change sounds small until you've wiped in a dungeon with a Druid healer.

Feral is where my concerns start.

Berserk is awesome. Cat gets a huge offensive window, while Bear can hit several targets with Mangle. Tiger's Fury also becomes more important now that traditional powershifting is essentially gone.

Raid Cat damage could be very strong.

The problem is consistency across content. Feral still looks awkward around AoE. Bear gets improvements, but I don't currently see it matching Protection Paladin or Protection Warrior as comfortably.

Druid has enormous flexibility. I just don't think every part of that flexibility looks equally polished yet.

Rogue

Rogue is better than its B-Tier placement probably makes it sound.

The class receives one of my favorite quality-of-life changes. Combo points are no longer instantly lost just because you change targets.

Thank you.

Assassination looks like the most promising raid tree. Mutilate gives it a proper attack, while Venom strengthens poison gameplay. It finally feels like an actual poison specialist instead of a pile of talents waiting for another expansion. Combat should feel just as “involved” and spicy, especially if you’re going to be leveling through dungeons.

Restless Blades reducing cooldowns gives Combat much better momentum. Adrenaline Rush and Blade Flurry become available more often, which should feel great while constantly fighting.

Subtlety is still the PvP monster.

The interesting part is that Forever gives Sub actual PvE possibilities. Thousand Cuts and new Backstab combos make it less ridiculous to imagine Sub inside a raid.

My issue is simple.

Rogue has three DPS trees. If those trees are not clearly outperforming hybrid DPS specs, there is less reason to rate the entire class higher.

Rogue will always have excellent threat management and PvP value. For overall PvE class value, I currently have it in B.

Warrior

This one hurts me. I play Warrior on retail, so this class is special to me. But based on what I've seen so far, I don't think Warrior would be my first Forever main. That could change very quickly. My beloved Fury spec still looks good. More Rage capacity, better dual-wield support, extra hit, and Raging Blows all improve the core gameplay. I know you can’t compare the retail version to vanilla, but let’s just say i’m more invested in Warrior Fury.

Protection looks even better than I expected. Charging in Defensive Stance is a great change. Better Rage generation helps the spec feel less starved. Protection also appears much more capable of contributing real damage. Arms is still kind of iffy for PvE.

Weapon Master is a great quality of life improvement. Blood Frenzy combos with Rend and Overpower sound fun. By the looks of it, Arms is still going to be terrifying in PvP.

I just expect Fury to beat it consistently in raids.

The bigger reason Warrior sits in B-Tier is that Forever changes the environment around it. Warrior dominated original Classic under very specific conditions. Forever has stronger competing specs, different itemization, and major class reworks everywhere.

Warrior can absolutely climb. I simply don't think it gets the same free S-Tier status anymore.

WoW Forever Spec Tier List

This is my current PvE-focused WoW Forever spec tier list based on the beta, what the devs showed at BlizzCon, and the early testing I've seen so far. I'm considering raid performance, dungeon value, survivability, and how complete each spec currently feels. I'm not ranking PvP here. That distinction matters for specs like Arms Warrior, Frost Mage, and Subtlety Rogue, which could look much stronger in PvP than their placement below suggests.

Tier

WoW Forever Specs

S-Tier

Protection Paladin, Arcane Mage, Affliction Warlock, Restoration Shaman, Holy Priest

A-Tier

Beast Mastery Hunter, Marksmanship Hunter, Survival Hunter, Elemental Shaman, Assassination Rogue, Balance Druid, Restoration Druid, Discipline Priest, Shadow Priest, Fire Mage, Destruction Warlock, Fury Warrior, Protection Warrior

B-Tier

Holy Paladin, Enhancement Shaman, Combat Rogue, Subtlety Rogue, Feral Druid, Frost Mage, Arms Warrior

C-Tier

Retribution Paladin

D-Tier

Demonology Warlock

Take this WoW Forever spec tier list with a grain of salt, because let’s be real, when you’re limited to 30 levels, you can’t really rank anything without having access to the meat of the game, which is the endgame. This is also why when I explain my choices you don’t see a lot of numbers and other concrete data. And in case it isn’t clear at this point, both tier lists will be heavily updated once the game is actually live in November, 2026.

Best WoW Forever Class for Leveling

Mage is my current pick for the best leveling class in WoW Forever. Hunter is extremely close, and I wouldn't argue with anyone putting it first.

Mage wins for me because the class attacks several leveling problems simultaneously. You have huge crowd control. You can kill packs of enemies at the same time. You create your own food and water. Teleports eventually save ridiculous amounts of travel time. Frost remains my preferred leveling tree. Even after the Blizzard slow reduction, Frost can kite enemies far more safely than most classes. Frost Nova, Cone of Cold, Blizzard, and the new Ice Lance combos give you excellent control.

That matters because Forever still treats leveling as an important part of the game. You will spend a lot of time traveling, fighting ordinary enemies, and exploring the world. A class that minimizes downtime has a massive advantage.

Hunter is my second choice. Its pet makes normal questing incredibly efficient, especially if you hate drinking after every few pulls.

Best WoW Forever Class for Solo Play

I would currently choose Warlock for solo play.

Hunter is probably easier. Warlock has the higher ceiling for the type of solo gameplay I enjoy. You have a demon taking pressure away from you. Drain abilities restore health. Life Tap converts health into mana. DoTs allow you to keep moving between targets instead of finishing every enemy with direct casts.

Affliction makes that package even stronger. I can imagine pulling several enemies, spreading DoTs, draining when necessary, and barely stopping between packs.

Demonology also deserves attention here. I don't love it for raid damage yet, but stronger demons could make Demo one of the safest solo specs in Forever.

Hunter remains the obvious alternative. If the goal is simply safe questing with minimal effort, Beast Mastery might actually be easier.

Best WoW Forever Class for New Players

I've seen Mage mentioned as one of the best beginner choices, and I understand the argument. You get ranged damage, free food and water, great control, and excellent leveling. Frost can also escape situations that would kill many other classes.

Still, Hunter is my recommendation for a completely new player.

Beast Mastery is straightforward. Your pet tanks enemies for you. You fight from range. You can recover from mistakes without needing perfect crowd-control timing. Most importantly, Hunter teaches the game without demanding that you already understand it. Mage has more responsibility. Good Mage gameplay depends on positioning, kiting, mana usage, and knowing when to control enemies. That is incredibly powerful once you understand it. It can also be less forgiving when you don't.

For someone who has never played WoW before, I would start with Hunter. If that player already understands MMOs and wants a caster, then Mage becomes my recommendation.

F.A.Q.

What is the best class in WoW Forever?

Mage or Paladin, depending on your preferred playstyle. Mage has incredible crowd control and three useful DPS trees, while Paladin combines one of the strongest-looking tanks with healing and melee options.

What is the best DPS spec in WoW Forever?

Arcane Mage and Affliction Warlock are the best DPS specs. Both received major improvements that solve problems their Classic versions had. This can change very quickly during beta tuning.

What is the best tank in WoW Forever?

Protection Paladin is the current number-one tank. Seal of Fury finally gives Prot reliable taunting, while Templar's Bulwark provides the emergency defense the spec badly needed. Protection Warrior remains a very strong alternative.

What is the best healer in WoW Forever?

Restoration Shaman and Holy Priest are the best healers. Resto combines Chain Heal with Riptide and excellent Totem utility. Holy Priest gets Prayer of Mending, Binding Heal, and strong raid-healing tools.

What is the best class for leveling in WoW Forever?

Mage is the classic choice for fast leveling. Its control, AoE damage, free food and water, and later travel utility make the entire 1-60 journey smoother. Hunter is extremely close.

What is the best solo class in WoW Forever?

Warlock is my pick for solo play because demons, DoTs, drains, and Life Tap create excellent sustain. Hunter is the easier alternative if you want straightforward pet-based leveling.

What is the easiest WoW Forever class for beginners?

Hunter, especially the Beast Mastery spec. Mage is also a strong beginner option once you understand kiting and crowd control, but Hunter is much more forgiving when you're still learning the game.
