Part 1: Trial of the Black Prince

The first chapter is officially called Trial of the Black Prince, as it serves as Wrathion’s first test of your strength, reputation, and ability to complete key objectives before advancing further in the legendary cloak questline.

You start by talking with Wrathion and working on leveling your reputation with the Black Prince.

Wrathion can be found at the Veiled Stair, but you can start the same quest by speaking to one of the faction-specific NPCs:

Stranger in a Strange Land is the quest that asks you to find him. As soon as you do, you’ll be able to accept another quest called the Legend in the Making. All you gotta do for it is listen to Wrathion’s dialogue.

The actually challenging part starts with the next quest called Trial of the Black Prince that tasks you to reach Honored Reputation with him. The quickest way is to kill level 90 mogu and mantid mobs in Pandaria, especially in these zones:

Most players can reach Honored in around 20–30 minutes in a good group, so don’t waste your time doing this solo. Also, if you’re in a guild, use the Guild banner for bonus reputation. Items like the Battle Standard of Coordination will work too if you’re not in a guild.

The Strength of One's Foes is the next step. To collect the 10 Sigils of Power and Wisdom each, keep queueing Celestial Dungeons over and over. Different instances can drop one sigil type or the other; raid bosses also count, and if you end up missing a few, you can buy them with stone fragments. Still, the easiest route is simply to keep farming dungeons until the quest is done. Eligible instances are:

Note that the boss drops have a cap, which resets on Tuesday. Where to buy Sigils? Talk to Sendala the Timeless, the August Stone Shard vendor found at the Shrine of Two Moons or Shrine of Seven Stars. One Sigil costs 30 August Stone Shards, which are earned from defeating dungeon bosses on Celestial difficulty.

Fear Itself or When in Doubt

Complete either of these quests to continue the questline and get to the next step, which is the quest called Breath of the Black Prince. After turning in the previous quest, head outside, fly up to the hill, and complete the final step with Wrathion. He rewards you with a choice of a Sha-touched gem that adds +500 to your main stat. To be specific:

The gem can only be used in Sha-touched weapons. Those come from raids or Celestial Dungeons. If you get a new weapon later, you can buy another gem from the vendor near Wrathion. The price depends on your reputation, usually around 8–9k gold.

Part 2: Wrathion's War

The second chapter starts right after you complete Breath of the Black Prince and focuses on progressing the Krasarang storyline, earning more Black Prince reputation, collecting 1600 Valor Points, and unlocking your next weapon upgrade.

Start the chapter and build your outpost

Begin with Incoming, then return to Wrathion in the Veiled Stair for The Measure of a Leader.

From there, head into Krasarang Wilds and complete the opening outpost questline:

  1. Meet the Scout (Lyalia - /way #390 84.6 66.0 & Scout Lynna - /way #418 85.2 29.0)
  2. A King Among Men (Marshal Troteman - /way #418 79.6 25.0 & Hilda Hornswaggle - /way #418 80.4 17.6)
  3. Lion’s Landing
  4. Incoming...

This section is fairly quick. You’ll help establish your faction’s foothold in the zone, clear the required enemies, and finish the short story sequence.

Work on both main objectives at the same time

After speaking with Wrathion again, you’ll receive two quests that should be progressed together:

The best way to handle this chapter is to work on both objectives in parallel. For reputation, farm enemy NPCs in southern Krasarang Wilds, especially around Krasarang Cove and Domination Point. Joining a group and using a guild banner speeds this up significantly.

For Valor, simply keep running Celestial Dungeons, since they help build points steadily while also giving useful progress for the overall legendary chain.

Finish the final quests

Once both objectives are complete, you unlock the final two quests of the chapter:

Bloodhilt is quick with even a small group, while the battleground step only requires participation.

Claim your reward

Turn in the final quest and speak with Wrathion (Call of the Packmaster) to receive the Eye of the Black Prince.

This item adds a prismatic socket to a Sha-Touched weapon or Armament of the Thunder King, giving your weapon a strong upgrade before moving into the next chapter.

Part 3: Two Princes

The third chapter takes the questline to the Isle of Thunder and is one of the longest parts of the entire chain. Make sure you have unlocked the path to the Isle from these quests:

  1. Alliance Thunder Calls
  2. Horde Thunder Calls

This part combines reputation farming, item collection, and a long-ass queue of solo scenarios that eventually unlock the Thunder Forge. The best way to approach it is to work on the opening grind first, then move into the scenario chain once both requirements are complete.

Meet Me Upstairs

Return to the Tavern in the Mists and head to the second floor to speak with Wrathion. This starts Chapter III and unlocks the two main objectives for this phase. Since both can be progressed at the same time, it is best to treat this as one combined farming step before moving deeper into the chain.

I Need a Champion

Your first objective here is to reach Exalted with the Black Prince. Head to the Shado-Pan (/way #504 50 65) Garrison first and take the quest that sends you to the Isle of Thunder. Make sure you turn it in once you arrive, as this unlocks the permanent portal back to the island and saves a lot of time later.

The fastest way to finish this reputation grind is to join or create a farm group through Group Finder and clear the central mob packs on the island.

A good approach is:

  • Farm in a full group
  • Stay near the center of the island
  • chain-pull packs continuously
  • Use a guild banner for bonus reputation
  • Keep moving with the group to maintain mob density

If you finished Chapter II at Revered, this step is usually very quick and can often be completed in around 20 minutes.

Secrets of the First Empire

This quest can be done alongside the reputation grind.

You need:

The Trillium Bars are the easy part and are usually fastest from the Auction House.

For Secrets of the Empire, the most efficient method is repeatedly queueing specific Celestial Dungeons and farming the final boss drops. Any missing pieces can be purchased with dungeon fragments.

A practical route is:

  • Buy 40 Trillium Bars first
  • Run specific dungeons for final boss drops
  • Buy only the missing Secrets afterward from Sendala the Timeless

Once both this quest and the reputation objective are complete, return to Wrathion.

The Thunder Forge

After turning in the first two quests, Wrathion sends you into the Isle of Thunder scenario chain. These scenarios start with:

The first scenario begins on the boat that originally brought you to the island.

You will then move through several connected scenarios:

  • Attack on Zeb’tula
  • Breach the wall with explosives
  • Aerial combat section
  • Cave encounter
  • Taoshi infiltration
  • The Fall of Shan Bu

Each one leads directly into the next.

The next step places you in an aerial scenario where you clear enemies while mounted, then move into a cave section with another elite encounter.

From there, Taoshi gives you the stealth scenario. Use the smoke ability to create a safe path, stay close to the NPC, and avoid alert totems that can pull extra trash.

The final scenario in this chain is The Fall of Shan Bu, where you clear several enemy waves before defeating Shan Bu himself.

Once all of these are complete, the Thunder Forge becomes available.

The Thunder Forge Scenario

This is the core scenario of the chapter. Inside the forge, your objective is to help Wrathion charge the forge and create the Tempered Lightning Lance.

The fight has several clear stages:

  • Protect Wrathion while the forge charges
  • Collect lightning spheres
  • Interrupt dangerous enemy casts
  • Defeat the forge master
  • Defend the blacksmith
  • Use anvils to stun enemies
  • Defeat the Sha fusion

One key mechanic here is the anvils. Whenever the Sha fusion begins a dangerous cast, use an active anvil to interrupt it. Once the Tempered Lightning Lance is completed, interact with it and use the special action button to finish the encounter.

Spirit of the Storm Lord

After leaving the forge, head to Nalak. Use the Tempered Lightning Lance on the boss while it's still alive to trigger the quest step, then kite the add that spawns without dying.

This is more of a survival objective than a real fight, so the safest approach is to keep moving until the quest updates.

You can do this solo if you just stay near the top of the stairs to the north of Nalak. Use the lance on Nalak and go up the stairs right away. You should see Nalak disappear while the adds remain. Run around chased by the adds, until the quest completes.

The Crown of Heaven

Return to Wrathion in the Veiled Stair for the final step of the chapter. Fly up to Mason’s Folly, speak with him, and choose your legendary meta gem:

At this point, you can also pick up the next quest and begin passively collecting 12 Titan Runestones from raids for future progress.

Echoes of The Titans

Get 12 Titan Runestones from the Halls of Flesh-Shaping, Pinnacle of Storms, or Celestial Dungeons bosses. They can also be bought for 30 August Stone Shards per stone.

Part 4: Celestial Blessings

After completing Two Princes and claiming your legendary meta gem, return to Wrathion to begin the fourth chapter. This is one of the shortest parts of the legendary cloak questline and mainly revolves around earning the blessings of Pandaria’s four Celestials before claiming your epic cloak.

A Reckoning

Head back to the Tavern in the Mists in the Veiled Stair and speak with Wrathion upstairs to start the next chapter. This is a quick hand-in quest that unlocks the Celestial trial.

Celestial Blessings

This is the main quest of the chapter. You need to travel to all four Celestial temples and speak with each Celestial, but you only need to complete one combat challenge, based on your role.

The challenges are split as follows:

  • Temple of the White Tiger — melee DPS (/way #379 68.6 44.4 Temple of the White Tiger)
  • Temple of the Red Crane — healer (/way #418 40.4 54.6 Temple of the Red Crane)
  • Temple of the Jade Serpent — ranged DPS (/way #371 59.2 59.4 Temple of the Jade Serpent)
  • Niuzao Temple — tank (/way #388 40.8 60.0 Niuzao Temple)

Choose the one that matches your specialization. For example, melee DPS players will head to the Temple of the White Tiger in Kun-Lai Summit and complete the Wrathion challenge there.

During the encounter, focus on a few key mechanics:

  • Stay behind Wrathion whenever possible
  • Move out of frontal attacks
  • Interrupt dangerous casts
  • Clear spawned adds quickly
  • Avoid marked ground effects

Once the challenge is complete, make sure you also visit the remaining temples and speak with each Celestial to finish the blessing requirement.

Cloak of Virtue

After receiving all four blessings, return to Mason’s Folly in the Veiled Stair and speak with Wrathion.

This quest rewards your item level 600 epic cloak.

You can choose the version that matches your role:

This cloak will later be upgraded into its legendary version in the final chapter.

Preparing to Strike

Return to Wrathion in the Tavern in the Mists to complete the chapter.

Part 5: Judgment of the Black Prince

The final chapter upgrades your epic cloak into its legendary version and closes out Wrathion’s full questline. Compared to Part 3, this chapter is much more straightforward and mostly takes place on the Timeless Isle and in Siege of Orgrimmar.

Meet Me Back at the Inn

Return to Wrathion upstairs in the Tavern in the Mists to begin the last chapter. This is the opening hand-in that starts the final stretch.

A Timeless Discovery

Travel to the Timeless Isle, located southeast of the Jade Forest, and speak with Wrathion there. This unlocks the Timeless Isle portion of the questline.

Secrets of the Timeless Isle

Your next objective is to collect 5000 Timeless Coins. It's probably too obvious, but don’t spend them before you turn in this quest.

The fastest way to do this is by combining multiple activities:

  • loot treasure chests
  • complete island events
  • kill rare elites
  • clear large mob packs
  • do any available daily quests

The coins build up quickly, so this step is usually much faster than it sounds.

The Emperor’s Way

Once the coin step is complete, defeat the four August Celestials on the Timeless Isle:

These are world boss encounters, so it is usually easiest to join a group through Group Finder.

A Pandaren Legend

After defeating all four Celestials, return to Wrathion in the Seat of Knowledge in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. This quest rewards Timeless Essence of the Black Dragonflight, which upgrades your item level 600 epic cloak into its legendary version. Your cloak upgrade depends on the version you selected in Part 4.

Judgment of the Black Prince

The final quest sends you into Siege of Orgrimmar.

Your objective is simple:

Once Garrosh is down and the quest is turned in, the full legendary cloak questline is complete.

This rewards the chapter achievement and permanently unlocks Ordos access on the Timeless Isle for all characters on your account.
