What Are Dawncrests in Midnight?

Dawncrests have become the only upgrade currency you’ll use throughout Midnight Season 1 to get better gear. Yeah, Valorstones are removed forever, and you’ll no longer have to juggle these two currencies. I genuinely wanted them to be gone, and I’m sure many of you will agree on that point here. Just like before, you’ve got a variety of sources to get these crests, but they vary depending on the quality of Dawncrests you’re after.

You’ll get most of them as a part of your weekly activities, and they’re also tied to the upgrade tracks you’ll see on gear. The content you run determines what kind of gear you earn, and the Dawncrest type also naturally lines up with that same tier of progressions.

How to Farm Dawncrests

To farm Dawncrests in Midnight fast, you need to clearly understand at what “level” of the track you’re currently at. Then, you start farming the content that matches it and continue working on that progression. Achieving Hero or Myth upgrades will take a lot of it, and you’ll have to go through harder content. No other way to get them. But just like before, you’ve got a variety of activities to choose from. You’re not limited to running M+ only or Raids, for example. Here is how to farm Dawncrests in WoW and all the ways explained:

It all starts with Adventurer Dawncrests, where you basically do the easiest content you can find in the game. I’m talking about Heroic dungeons, LFR raids, as well as the lowest-tier Delves. That’s easy to do, but the rewards you’ll get only mean you’re at the very beginning of your path.

Things get more challenging when you reach the threshold where you can get Champion Dawncrests. Finishing M+ keys and Normal raid would be necessary here to move further to Hero and Myth tracks. Also, Delves become harder as well since clearing Tiers from 7 to 10 requires a better strategy and gear.

Dawncrest Types

Nothing has changed in terms of what crest types means what. You’ve got the name of the upgrade track and the item level range it covers. This explains what content it’s meant for and how far it can push your gear. I’ve gathered a full list of Dawncrest types in Midnight for your convenience:

Yeah, these tracks overlap slightly, and that’s totally okay. The game gives you a smoother way to transition from one tier to the next. Second, the crest you need depends on the track your gear is on, not just the item level number you’re staring at. So, two items at a similar ilvl can still ask for different Dawncrests if they’re from different tracks. Dawncrest Weekly Cap

The current Dawncrest weekly cap is limited to 100 Dawncrests per week for each crest type. That means you can earn 100 of these in Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, and Mythic rarity. They’re all tracked separately. This actually helps a lot when you start mixing content, and also opens a door for longer grind sessions. If you skip weeks, you don’t permanently lose progress, because there’s a catch-up system that raises your cap later.

This system stacks over time during the season, and if you come in late or take a break, you can farm more in one week to close the gap. Check out this example of how this can work:

• Week 1 Cap: 100 per crest type
• Week 4 Cap: 400 per crest type (because you had four weeks of potential earning)

Your crest totals and cap progress are shown in your currency panel. You can open your currency tab and check each Dawncrest type to see how many you’ve earned this week and what your current cap is.

Exchanging Dawncrests

There are two NPCs you’ll need to upgrade your gear and exchange Dawncrests of lower tiers to get the ones from a higher tier. Trust me, this is the classic problem I had back in The War Within, and nothing has changed in Midnight. You’ll be drowning in one Dawncrest tier, but the upgrade you actually want needs a different one. These are the NPCs you’ll need:

• Cuzolth - The actual gear upgrade vendor
• Vaskarn - The Dawncrest exchange vendor

Here are the exact coordinates to find them both /way #2393 48.6 61.7 as they’re standing next to each other in Silvermoon City. But there’s one big limiter I want you to know about: the ability to trade lower-tier crests into higher-tier ones is tied to your overall gear progressions.

It unlocks through specific gear milestones. I’m talking about achievements like Adventurer of the Dawn that requires you to reach 237 ilvl in every armor slot. There’s a similar achievement for every step further. This restricts things like gearing up an alt into Myth crest gear right away just because you have them on your main.

 

Valorstones Are Gone for Good

To sum up this Dawncrests guide, I wanna mention the greatest headache I had back in The War Within. I’m talking about Valorstones, because they added an extra layer of difficulty to your gear upgrades. Managing two currencies was like…. ehh. You’d have crests, but you’d also need Valorstones, and somehow the game always made you run out of what you didn’t have.
