Apex Legends Gun Tier List for Season 29

The new season doesn’t completely rebuild the weapon meta. It has strengthened what was already in a very balanced and almost perfect condition. I’ve enjoyed running almost any gun when looking back at previous months. Yeah, Hemlok got nerfed, but it’s still strong. And L-STAR is now taking its place in the Care Package drop. These and other changes do have an impact, but overall, things haven’t changed much. Here’s my complete Apex Legends gun tier list for Season 29:
|
Tier |
Weapons |
|
S |
Hemlok, R-99, Alternator, RE-45, Wingman, Triple Take, Prowler |
|
A |
Mozambique, Peacekeeper, Nemesis, Havoc, 30-30 Repeater, Flatline, P2020, R-301, Volt, Mastiff, EVA-8 |
|
B |
Longbow, C.A.R., Devotion, Bocek, Spitfire |
|
C |
Rampage, Sentinel |
|
D |
Charge Rifle |
|
Mythic |
L-STAR, G7 Scout, Kraber |
Oh, and C.A.R. is also returning to floor loot again for those of you who love running SMGs. I’d say that close-range weapons are in a great spot in Season 29, especially if you’re picking the Legends exactly for this style. I’m talking about Octane, Bangalore, Mad Maggie, and others. And even though I’ve put seven guns in the S-Tier, it doesn’t make them broken or too OP. They’re just slightly better, and I feel like they deserve this spot.
Best Weapons in Apex Legends

I’ve always ranked weapons in Apex Legends in terms of how powerful they are without any attachments on. If I take the gun and it’s good to go the way it is, I can call it the top pick. That’s especially important in ranked games, where you have less space for mistakes and should be able to play with what you find in the nearest loot box or as floor drops. So far, I think these are the best weapons in Apex Legends as of Season 29:
- Hemlok
- R-99
- Alternator
- RE-45
- Wingman
- Triple Take
- Prowler
And you can clearly see the pattern here. I’ve got several SMGs, Pistols, and Triple Take that can take down a target in a few taps early on. I personally think that SMGs can shred anyone, but you just need to play nicely and learn positioning before this gun type unlocks its full potential in your hands. I especially recommend running SMGs if you find any right after you drop on the map because you’re most likely to encounter an enemy somewhere close to you. But Triple Take would do it for mid or long-range fights if you have any.
Hemlok
Hemlok has received nerfs in terms of damage, recoil, and mag size. But is it actually enough to place it from S to A Tier? Idk, I don’t think so. It still brings this amazing burst damage and you can use it with no attachments, which is especially important during early encounters after you land. You can crack people behind cover, force them off doors, break windows, pressure angles, and delete utility without fully committing to a push.
Maybe I’ll move it to the A-Tier a bit further in Season 29, but for now, I think it can safely stay in the S-Tier. We’ll see how it goes later on.
R-99
R-99 does its job of deleting an enemy in a sec perfectly. I can’t really name a better gun in Apex Legends for close-quarter fights. Maybe only shotguns like Mastiff can compete with it. Its fast fire rate, strong pressure, and great strafe value will win you a ton of fights after you land and fight for better loot. But its tiny magazine is what will keep you motivated in terms of accurate firing. Forget about spraying around with this baby. And its recoil is also something you’ll have to master.
Note: The only nerf that seriously affects R-99 is the recent one that reduced the light ammo stack size to 60 (was 72). But you can deal with it after running a few games with the gun. I’ve tested this. You can still take down an enemy in around 0.87 to 1 seconds, and that’s an amazing TTK.
Alternator
I used to underestimate Alternator in previous seasons, but in both Season 28 and 29, it has become a complete game-changer for me and others, often mentioned as one of the strongest guns overall. I love what the developers did with this weapon. I’m talking about the Double Tap upgrade. And compared to R-99, you have minimal recoil that you can get used to easily. I’ve never had a more comfortable gun to land my shots with. It’s also quite a forgiving weapon to run with as a beginner in Season 29. But it’s less reliable for complete close-quarters fights.
RE-45
RE-45 is a fully-automatic pistol with 780 RPM, which can erase people with the speed compared to SMGs like R-99. This is especially nasty on controllers, where tracking turns close-range fights into instant deletion if you pre-charge properly. The gun can save you a ton of times after you land and can’t find anything worthy on the floor. Don’t use it as a main weapon, and it definitely can’t compare with Alternator, but this pistol is by far the fastest one in terms of making the HP bar vanish.
Wingman
The only problem I’ve always had with Wingman is landing my shots accurately. But if you can, an enemy will be deleted in a second. You’ll hit from 63 to 86 headshot damage, depending on the helmet your enemy is wearing. Just think of that. You can double-tap a 100 HP enemy. Wow. I’ve put it in the S-Tier due to the following strong points it brings:
- Fast pistol strafe makes you annoying to hit, especially at longer ranges
- Huge burst damage if you land headshots
- Works well in peek fights and cover play (saved me plenty of times)
But only go for Wingman if you’re sure of your aim. In all other situations, it’s going to be as useless as you can only think of that, lol. Otherwise, you can forget about its average TTK of 1.15 to 1.54 seconds.
Triple Take
I personally use Triple Take to poke from range rather than taking down an enemy. It’s great for cracking people before the fight even starts. It lets you take a better position when your enemy recharges their shields afterward. That flexibility is exactly what I like about Triple Take in Season 29, and it’s been like this several seasons in a row, actually.
The damage is also huge, even body shots hurt enough, and that brings Triple Take to a TTK of around 1.15 seconds. And if you land a headshot, you can deal from 81 to 102 damage, depending on the helmet. That’s basically a one-shot frag for a level 1 helmet. And Triple Take is an excellent gun if you cover your teammate from a distance when they get closer to start an advantageous fight.
Prowler
Another SMG sitting in the S-Tier is Prowler, and it’s here because of how easy it is to use. You fire five bullets at once, and that can take down a target faster than you can imagine. This is especially true after the burst timing changes that made this gun much deadlier than before. You’re almost equally strong in both close-range fights and when holding angles, as well as cleaning up cracked players.
You can also go for the full-auto version of it, but I think that the burst version works much better. Going the full-auto mode means you’ll suffer from recoil more, and hipfire accuracy will be a problem, too.

Care Package Weapons Ranked

Season 29 brings a new set of Care Package weapons, and L-STAR is joining this list. I’ve put these three guns in a separate part of my Apex Legends guns tier list because they don’t play by the same rules as floor loot.
I think that everyone understands that any Care Package weapon you find in the game is instantly better than what you’re running with. But that’s not always true for Kraber or G7 Scout if you’re struggling to hit your shots. Yet things get better with L-STAR this season. This is how I would rank Care Package weapons in Season 29:
|
Rank |
Care Package Weapon |
Description |
|
1 |
G7 Scout |
Best overall package weapon because it farms damage fast and punishes every peek. But make sure you land your shots accurately |
|
2 |
L-STAR |
Season 29’s new pack gun, now way scarier with boosted damage |
|
3 |
Kraber |
Still terrifying, but missing one shot can waste the whole value |
I personally like running Kraber, but it’s probably my old habit speaking for me here. I’ve been playing Apex for almost 5 years now, and I remember those times when Kraber was everything to me. Now, it’s not that OP anymore, but it can still change your game if you land those shots.
Apex Legends Season 29 Weapon Changes
The biggest change is the Care Package swap, but smaller weapon buffs and nerfs matter as well in Apex Legends Season 29. L-STAR EMG is now in the pack, and C.A.R. leaves this team and goes back to floor loot again. That alone changes how players build loadouts, because one strong Energy LMG leaves normal loot, and another SMG option returns to regular loot. Here’s a full list of weapon changes in Season 29 that affect the meta:
|
Weapon |
Season 29 Change |
What It Means |
|
Hemlok |
Nerfed damage, recoil, and mag size |
Still strong, but less free than before |
|
L-STAR |
Added to Care Package with damage buff and new hop-up |
Much scarier now and belongs in the Mythic tier |
|
P2020 |
Slight buff |
Better than before, but still not a main meta weapon |
|
C.A.R. |
Returns to floor loot with bigger mags |
More practical now, especially as a flexible SMG pickup |
You’ll notice how Hemlok has changed, and yeah, it’s not that ridiculous anymore. But even with worse recoil and smaller mags, I still put it in the S-Tier for now. The devs just had to do something with it after it was shredding people throughout the entire Season 28.
How I Ranked These Apex Legends Weapons
I honestly ranked these guns based on how I felt when using them in real fights. I mean, relying on the statistics is also helpful, but nothing speaks louder than what you see in matches. The weapons I’ve placed in both S-Tier and A-Tier are actually amazing, and you can safely use them from the very start until you see the victory screen. The same goes for Mythic drops if you’re lucky enough to get one in your game.
These are the criteria I’ve relied on when building this Apex Legends gun tier list for Season 29:
- Damage Output: That’s obviously the biggest plus to any weapon since you wanna take down an enemy faster than they do it. This is why so many SMGs sit in the S-Tier, though.
- Recoil Control: It matters a ton, too, but there’s no weapon for which recoil control you can’t master. It will just take more or less time in all situations.
- Strafe Speed: That’s what you have when you’re running pistols and SMGs because you can trade safer. You’re harder to hit, but you need to learn to shoot on the go as well.
- Attachment Dependency: Those guns that require fewer attachments to play cool are ranked higher. A few examples are Wingman, Alternator, and Triple Take.
- Hipefire Value: Close fights often come down to hipfire rather than clean ADS sprays. And that has always been like this in Apex Legends. That’s why SMGs have been so popular this and other seasons.
Do keep in mind that the weapon meta in Apex is quite balanced these days. It means that you can run with any gun you want if it fits your playstyle and character’s abilities. But those guns you see in S-Tier and A-Tier are just slightly stronger and can help you win more fights. That’s my opinion for Season 29.
