Apex Legends Overclocked Characters Tier List

This season doesn’t shift the status quo. Most characters that were good in the previous season stay good, and the ones that were bad, like Vantage, are unfortunately still bad. Apart from four characters, you can safely pick any legend and win games with them, which is what I really appreciate about Apex. If you hoped that they’d fix Vantage and Ballistic this season, I have bad news for you. In this Apex Legends Season 29 tier list, I’m ranking legends from S to D tier, and here’s what each tier means:

  • S-Tier: Strongest characters, the top of the list are broken.
  • A-Tier: Strong and reliable characters that outshine the rest of the list, but don’t break the meta.
  • B-Tier: Undertuned or very skill-dependent characters.
  • C-Tier: Bad, but not pure trash.
  • D-Tier: I do not recommend picking these characters until they’re fixed, cause they’re broken, but not in a good way.

And with this preamble, here’s a full Apex Legends tier list for season 29:

Tier

Legends

S-Tier

Axle, Octane, Alter, Lifeline, Conduit

A-Tier

Revenant, Wraith, Valkyrie, Seer, Newcastle, Sparrow, Caustic, Fuse, Mad Maggie, Loba, Catalyst

B-Tier

Bangalore, Gibraltar, Horizon, Crypto, Bloodhound, Pathfinder, Watson, Rampant

C-Tier

Ashe, Mirage

D-Tier

Ballistic, Vantage

As you can see, the majority of the tier list is located in A and B-Tiers, which I consider to be pretty balanced. Not too many characters can be called outright broken, which is always a good sign, but unfortunately, the bottom four require real resilience to play and have fun with, except for maybe Mirage. Let’s go over each tier, where I’ll explain why I placed each character in their respective tiers.

S-Tier

The top of the food chain, mostly irreplaceable characters for a strong team comp, plus Axle and Octane, who are just broken. I decided not to place them in a separate OP tier, cause I think there will be some minor nerfs coming and I don’t want to risk the longevity of this tier list, but you can be sure that these Legends will not drop any lower:

  • Axle: Her kit does not seem all that crazy at first glance, but when you look closer, you quickly realize that she has some crazy movement skills. If Octane relies on high jumps, then Axle relies on staying low. Her passive makes her slide faster and more controllably, her Tactical puts a nitro gate that speeds up her and everyone else’s slide. Her Ultimate is a drone that self-targets people before blowing up and launching them in the air, where they’re sitting ducks for you. With perks, you can make your ulti have two charges, which is just insane.
  • Octane: He was strong last season, still insanely strong in this. Insane movement potential plus the Squad Rush perk gives your teammates (and enemies) a stim, which finally makes Octane useful for the team and not for himself only. Do I even need to explain why he is good? Best movement, strong healing, what else do you need?
  • Alter: Even with the nerfs, she's still very good. If in the previous season she was broken, now she's just super strong. The nerfs aren't that huge and will require just a little bit more mastery to play instead of being a free win machine, but nothing dramatic.
  • Lifeline: Easily the best support in Apex Legends. Holy cow, is she strong. The ability to res your teammates while continuing to fight is bar none. Her drone isn't that good, but her ulti and the passive are what you need. A good Lifeline can win you games almost solo. She can drag the fights and drain the enemy of their resources.
  • Conduit: Among the best support legends in Apex. She has an amazing tactical ability that lets you face tank the enemies without being worried for your life that much. Her ulti is good to hold space, and the fact that you can res your teammates faster is amazing. With this season's buffs, her Tactical’s strength is just through the roof.

Moving on to A-Tier, where we have most of the roster.

A-Tier

Before I move on with this part of the tier list, let me say that all of this is subjective, cause I know that I might have some controversial opinions in it. Just know I was very careful when placing the characters and thought a lot about where I’d put them:

  • Revenant: One of the best fighters in the game currently. The tactical makes him very mobile, and his ulti just makes him tanky. If you are 1v1, odds are you will win this. Just be careful, as it can be easy to die on Revenant. Play a couple of games to know your limits.
  • Wraith: A very reliable Legend to pick. She has good rotation, good diving ability, good resets, everything in her kit just works. She's not broken and unlikely to receive nerfs. She does require skill to play, so if you intend to maining her, I suggest you stick to her unless you fully understand the tactics to use. One of the deepest characters in Apex Legends.
  • Valkyrie: I gotta be real with you, I love playing Valk, she's basically my main, but I understand that she's one of the most annoying characters in the game. The ability to just scoot if you don't want to take a fight or land on enemies' heads when they least expect it is just OP. You're basically playing short bursts of deathmatch mode instead of traversing the map and checking all the corners like the other players. Her ult is the best thing about her.
  • Seer: The best recon character in Apex Legends. The ability to scan for enemies without giving away your position is just too OP. This character is so strong in info gathering that if you die when enemies are near but don't know about you, it's definitely your fault. His skill ceiling is high, but he's not hard to play.
  • Newcastle: Potentially the hardest legend in Apex Legends. You need to do so many things to fully realize his potential. He gathers info, he tanks, he supports. Sometimes, it feels like you need a second brain to play him. Maybe I'm overselling it a bit, but he's definitely a thinking man's legend. I think all of his abilities are strong, but the fact that you need to control so many things makes him less enjoyable to play.
  • Sparrow: Another amazing Recon character. Unlike Seer, who prefers playing carefully, Sparrow likes to play aggressively. He has a double jump, and his ulti sets up team wipes. Easy to learn, fun to play. He's unlikely to be the legend with the most kills by the end of the game, but he'll be the one who brought the most impact.
  • Caustic: Best controller legend in Apex Legends. He got the worst skills to deal with. His gas does 10 damage a hit, and his ulti is great for pushing people in closed spaces. What brings him down is that he might as well have both of his legs broken. He has very poor mobility, and in the game, where most of the time you rely on it, it can be a big problem, especially if you've been ambushed in the wrong spot.
  • Fuse: After much-needed reworks, Fuse is quite strong. He's not the fastest character in the game, but his abilities are fun and complement each other really well. I usually take Knuckle Jumper and Reignition. A combination of these perks lets you play very aggressively. Not only that, but Fuses ultimate is perfect to smoke out players from buildings. Overall, a very complete toolkit that never feels stale to play. Unfortunately, he's a bit outclassed by stronger options this season, plus he's only ever good for fighting.
  • Mad Maggie: Cover? What cover? Maggie was made to terrorize your opponents, especially the ones who like to turtle behind cover. She's a direct counterpick to Gibby, Newcastle, and a counter to players stacking in one building. Her passive is alright, but I don't like that it forces you to play shotties. Not that I have anything against shotguns. Her tactical ability is where it's at, though.
  • Loba: Her passive and ulti are not strong in the current Apex Legends meta cause you have enough loot to choose from, but her Tactical makes her almost an S Tier Legend. Low cooldown allows you to jump all over the place and not worry that someone will get you. Frankly, 90% of people pick her for her Tac only.
  • Catalyst: Good controller legend. Barricade the entrance and make the enemies suffer trying to break through. Catalyst is basically a ragebait character, and she does her job well. You don't even have to play around tight spots exclusively, since her ulti builds a whole wall that blocks the view. That said, you definitely need to know how to play her to make her useful.

All characters from A-Tier are viable and strong, so don’t be afraid to use them in Apex Legends season 29.

B-Tier

These are the divisive legends. Here, you might not agree with my picks even more than before. You’ll notice that there are many legends that were released a while back. It’s because most of the B-Tier characters are simply outclassed by other, newer legends:

  • Bangalore: Great for breaking aim assist on controllers. Her smokes save lives and can turn the tide of battle in seconds. Her perks are also good, especially Cover Me! It works well if you're playing with Octane in your team. She can break Gibby's shields with one of her perks. Bangalore is kind of an all-rounder, but she doesn't really excel at anything and relies on her teammate compatibility.
  • Gibraltar: Gibraltar is good for holding your ground. You have lots of tools to control space and just check the opponent with your gun shield, but nowadays people know pretty well how to counter Gibby's bubble and how to punish him for it. The recent buffs made him stronger, so the players must think twice before coming in contact with Gibbopotamus.
  • Horizon: Horizon is just like Fuse: great at pushing, not great at anything else. Recent nerfs with her Mary Poppins umbrella lasting only for 2.5 seconds didn't make her any stronger, but she's still a good pick, and in the right hands, she's a team wiper. The question is, will it be your team or theirs, cause many people think they know how to play Horizon when they clearly don't.
  • Crypto: He's in a strange position. I'd say if you know how to play this legend and dedicate your time to learning him, he's one of the strongest legends in the game. If you also play as a tight-knit squad and you know their playstyle and can predict the way they're gonna fight, Crypto will be a true menace. The problem is you need to satisfy both of these criteria to make use of him, and that's why I'm putting him in B Tier. Too much prep for only potential realization in ranked, not to mention that if his drone breaks, you have zero value.
  • Bloodhound: Another poor soul that suffered from the power creep, as the majority of launch Legends did. Their scan is not that good in the modern meta, cause you have Crypto's drone. Their ulti is kinda meh. Then again, they're not awful. You can use them to a certain success, but they're definitely not a match-winner.
  • Pathfinder: Not the worst character to play as, but his abilities are outclassed by other Legends like Fuse and Octane. His grapple takes skill to use, plus it has a long cooldown. It can be useful as a movement ability, though you need to know how to use it properly. You can also hook your opponents, but it's not as simple as it sounds. Pathfinder's toolkit seems very dated, and he needs a rework, or at least some buffs.
  • Watson: If Caustic puts a "Do not enter. Deadly Hazard" sign, then Watson hangs a "Do not enter, please" on the door that gets obliterated by an Arc Star. Unless you're in tight, and I mean extremely tight quarters, then Watson's kit isn't working. You can just walk around the fence, and while yes, this is something you cannot completely ignore, and it does have some use, you're better off choosing someone else.
  • Rampant: Just a fine Legend, nothing mindblowing. She's good at holding space, she's not good at pushing or fighting, and while this is not the idea behind the character, in such a movement-heavy game, it's bound to make you weaker than others. Still, not the worst character, and you can rank up with her quite well.

Finally, let's move on to the bottom of the barrel. The infamous legends you shouldn't pick this season.

C & D-Tiers

I’ve decided to unite the bottom of the list into one section cause they all share the same problem: they’re very, very undertuned. Season 29 brought some buffs for Vantage, but this is just not enough to bring her out of Elo hell. The same goes for Ballistic. Let me not get ahead of myself. Here’s the rest of the tier list:

  • Ashe: Ashe's ultimate is good for one thing - it's simple for new players. But that's actually a disservice cause you miss out on learning the movement and pathing, which is an essential part of Apex Legends. This season, she got some minor buffs, but not enough in my book to give her a higher tier. Her passive is also really bad. One dash only, and you have to wait for the cooldown forever.
  • Mirage: One of the more charismatic characters in the game has one of the worst skill sets. If your enemy has played at least 50 hours, they will not be fooled by Mirage's tac and ulti. The only thing he's good for is to pop an ulti and then rush to revive a teammate, but most players will expect that and catch you before you do that. His perks are what bring him up, especially the Bamboozle one. It marks the enemies if they shoot your decoy, which they'll do most of the time. If you want a light recon Legend that also has a decent supporting passive, try Mirage.
  • Ballistic: No. He is the worst of all worlds. I don't know who among the devs hates him so much, but he is the definition of outclassed by everybody else.
  • Vantage: Despite the buffs that she received in season 29, she's still bad. The buffs are more of the developers' way of saying "we know she's bad, we're working on her" than really addressing the issue. Her tactical is just a joke, her ulti is fine, but none of her skills work in tandem. To play her well, you need to fight tooth and nail for a very dubious payoff.

And that’s how my tier list ends. I really hope they work something out for Ballistic and Ashe, cause I like their playstyle, but the way they are now, I don’t advise touching them, even with a stick.
