How to Upgrade Scrappy in ARC Raiders Fast Quick Summary:

Scrappy Upgrade Materials Checklist

Scrappy is a fan of Nature resources and comfort. Everything you need to bring to this rooster is going to be connected with various fruits and vegetables growing Topside and some stuff that, to my understanding, is supposed to make his stay in your Workshop more comfortable. Here’s a full Scrappy upgrade materials checklist in ARC Raiders:

Upgrading Scrappy can take significant time, starting from the third upgrade tier if you don’t know where to look for these items. Let me tell you where to get materials for Scrappy upgrade:

• Dog Collar: The easiest way to find this item is by going to the Buried City, as this item is found in Residential areas, and the map is filled with them. I always find at least one in Grandioso Apartments, but you can also look in Santa Maria houses or the Red Tower. You can also try Village on the Blue Gate.
• Lemons & Apricots: By far the best place to find lemons and apricots in ARC Raiders is by going to Marano Park in Buried City. It’s a bit dangerous because there’s a high chance of Boss ARC spawning here, and there’s a high chance you’ll meet a few raiders nearby.
• Prickly Pears: These Nature mats can be found on Dam Battlegrounds and on Buried City. I recommend looking for them on Dam Battlegrounds, though. There’s a good amount of them spawning North of the Power Generation Complex. There’s one tree next to Pattern House, and some more to the South of it. If you travel further east towards Raider Outpost East, you may find some there, too. You can also go west from the Pattern House and look around Victory Ridge.
• Olives: I highly recommend going to the Blue Gate’s Olive Grove. Be wary that there are many players with free kits that are farming these Olives with no risk of losing anything, so just shoot them down and loot them, cause they surely will shoot on sight. If you are extremely unlucky and keep dying to hostile raiders, you can try waiting for Lush Blooms and then going to the Blue Gate. You can use MetaForge’s interactive map to look for the specific placement of the Fruit Baskets.
• Cat Bed: The easiest place to find them 100% of the time, and I’m not even exaggerating, is in Testing Annex on Dam Battlegrounds. Specifically from the southern entrance. The stairs lead up to a door, and behind it is some sort of reception area. Loot around it, and you’ll surely find one.
• Mushrooms: Finding Mushrooms without Lush Blooms is torture, so don’t subject yourself to it and use the Event Timer to not miss it. Lush Blooms is the best way to farm Mushrooms in ARC Raiders. You get from 2 to 3 Mushrooms per basket, and farming the Event for one hour is usually enough. Use the link that I provided when I was talking about Olives to find the baskets. If Lush Blooms isn't up or you don’t want to wait for it, there's a tree south of Little Hangar on Spaceport that reliably drops 3 to 4 Mushrooms on a normal run, up to 11 during Cold Snap.
• Very Comfortable Pillow: There are a few places where you can get them reliably. One of them I already mentioned is the Testing Annex reception on Dam Battlegrounds. Another good place to loot is the Red Tower in the Buried City.

While these items are not hard to find, they’re certainly harder to get than some other materials, since Nature resources and materials aren’t usually scattered in POIs around the maps, with a few exceptions like Olive Grove and Marano Park.

Best Way to Upgrade Scrappy in ARC Raiders

I have developed an easy-to-follow strategy for upgrading Scrappy fast in ARC Raiders. I really don’t enjoy upgrading him if I’m honest, cause for other Workshop benches, you at least can use the materials in crafting something useful. Not the case with Scrappy, cause the materials you get for him are only useful to upgrade his nest. Anyways, here are the steps for a quick Scrappy upgrade:

1. Get Dog Collar, Cat Bed, and Very Comfortable Pillow First: Though I’ve written about the best places to look for each material, I usually just go to the Testing Annex reception and pray these items spawn there. They usually do. It takes a couple of raids, but I get them fast enough.
2. Get the Nature Materials: As I’ve played more and more of ARC Raiders, I’ve kind of perfected my loot routes and routines. My best loot route to get Scrappy materials in ARC Raiders is as follows. I wait for Lush Blooms on Dam Battlegrounds and, depending on where I spawn, run from basket to basket. If I spawn near Pale Apartments, I go to Old Battleground and make my way to South Swamp Outpost. Then I cross the Electrical Substation area to get to the Scrap Yard and go towards Red Lakes. If I’m lucky enough to spawn early in the raid, I usually get most of the baskets safely. One thing I hate about ARC Raiders is that if you spawn late, ggs. You’re not getting any loot, at least if you’re not willing to kill other players. Which I am. It’s just hard to find any players if you spawn near 15 minutes, you know?

If you do everything right, you won’t spend more than a few hours upgrading Scrappy to the top. Scrappy’s upgrades might seem a little underwhelming at first, since you get from 12 mats per resource to 16 mats per resource for more than 15 minutes spent in the raid. In reality, you get +25% of increase in resources, but what’s more important, you get a huge Assorted Seeds boost. They go up from 5 per 15-minute raid to 13 per the same time. This is the case if you fail to extract. If you are successful with your extraction, the rewards are dropped to half of the aforementioned numbers. This doesn’t concern the seeds, as they drop in the same amount whether you extract or not. Considering that Assorted Seeds are kind of the best common material cause you can trade them for any material you can find from Celeste, this isn’t a big deal imo.

 

 

Why Upgrading Scrappy is Important

Scrappy is a chicken that you can find in your Workshop. You can upgrade him much like other benches in your Workshop. It brings you some common materials that you need for crafting and upgrading lower-tier weapons. These materials are a foundation on which you increase your inventory robustness, craft materials for green and blue weapons and augments, but most importantly, they make you worry less about scavenging the gray resources that you don’t want to pick up during raids cause they just occupy a valuable slot that can be used for some other higher-tier materials. Scrappy always brings the same types of resources, and upgrading the rooster just lets him bring more of them:

• Metal Parts: The most important crafts are Mechanical Components and light, medium, and heavy ammo.
• Fabric: Used for crafting Bandages and Durable Cloth, which is then used to craft Herbal and Sterilized Bandages.
• Plastic Parts: These parts are needed in many crafts, but most importantly in adrenaline shots, Defibrillators, Electrical Components (used for Rare Augment and Grenade crafting), and Light Shields.
• Chemicals: Used to craft some consumables like Adrenaline shot, Light Sticks, some common grenades, but most importantly, you need them for Antiseptic, which allows you to craft the best healing items in the game.
• Rubber Parts: One of the parts that you’ll need on a regular basis. The reason is that you use them to create Shield Rechargers, and you know how important it is.
• Assorted Seeds: Not needed for any essential crafts in particular, but they allow you to purchase other materials and even items from Celeste in Speranza.

As you can see, Scrappy is basically your lifeline support to get you rid of the annoying grind for gray materials. It’s not like it completely solves the grind, but you’ll definitely feel it in the long run. That’s why upgrading him is so important. You can upgrade Scrappy four times, and I wouldn’t say it’s that difficult, compared to the first months of the game, when barely anyone knew where to farm the resources for it.

 

 

How Does Scrappy Work?

I like to think of Scrappy as a cashback mechanic. A consolation prize if you fail to extract. Scrappy brings materials each time you go to a raid, but you need to spend x time in it to actually get any. Below is the table that shows the increase in resources per time spent in a raid if you want to geek out. I’ll use two abbreviations: E for Extracted, N/E for Not Extracted. Here are the rewards for Scrappy upgrade in ARC Raiders:

You can notice that Scrappy brings more materials if you didn’t extract, and that’s why I called it a consolation prize for failing the extraction. Still, I wish they returned the way Scrappy worked during tests, where it would sometimes bring you rare materials. I’d even suggest making him bring some consumables/equipment/augments. As of now, I upgrade Scrappy as a way to not go broke in the later stages of the game.
