Naval Warfare Guide for Battlefield 6 Season 4

Naval warfare is finally coming back in Battlefield 6 Season 4, and it’s more than just boats and fancy coastal looks. Season 4 adds two naval vehicles, a new dynamic wave system, and two coastal maps built around land, air, and sea combat. In this guide, I’ll go over how boats work, how waves influence fights (yes, really), and which vehicle you should use.

Naval Warfare Guide for Battlefield 6 Season 4 Quick Summary:

  • Battlefield 6 Season 4 adds naval warfare through two boats, dynamic waves, and coastal maps combining infantry, armor, aircraft, and sea combat.
  • RCB-90 Patrol Boat is the combat option, built for coastline control, vehicle fights, mortar support, and creating team spawn points near shore.
  • 7.7M NSW RHIB is a fast four-seat transport used for flanking, squad insertions, beach landings, and quick escapes.
  • Open-ocean waves make aiming and navigation harder, while inland waterways are calmer but expose boats to Engineers, mines, and shore vehicles.
  • Tsuru Reef launches with Season 4, while Wake Island arrives later with carrier headquarters and additional ship cover.
  • The most important naval rule is to keep moving. A stationary boat quickly becomes target practice.

How Naval Warfare Works in Battlefield 6

Naval warfare in Battlefield 6 Season 4 is fully built around coastal combat, not simple shootouts on boats in the shallow waters. Tsuru Reef and Wake Island are (half) new maps that both combine ocean space, islands, and inland waterways. You can expect aircraft, ground vehicles, infantry, and naval vehicles, which is exactly the kind of chaos Battlefield should be doing more often. Like why didn’t we have this kind of fun at launch? The boat controls the same as land vehicles. On controller, the left stick controls throttle, reverse, and turning. Use WASD on KBM for that. If you can’t fly or drive a tank, maybe this will do. The actual trick to handling the boat is momentum. Boats don’t gain speed easily, and they especially don’t like constant stopping and starting. If you stall in open water, you’re volunteering to become target practice for:

  • Enemy boats
  • Engineers on shore
  • Helicopters
  • Jets
  • Infantry near docks and beaches

The core concept of boat warfare is simple - keep moving even if you have trouble hitting targets. Better this than dying. Even slow circles are usually better than sitting still.

Dynamic Waves Explained

The biggest new system in Battlefield 6 season 4 is the dynamic wave system. It’s in all promo materials, so I hope that’s good and they’re not just overselling it. In the devs' own words, it changes how naval fights play and feel. Bullets will penetrate as much water as their caliber allows, dealing less damage to you when you’re underwater cause now the water’s density also counts. Both your and your enemy markers will disappear as soon as you dive underwater. You can also drag and revive your teammates while in the water. There are two “water conditions”:

Water Type

What It Means

Open Ocean

Rough waves, harder navigation, harder aiming

Inland Waterways

Calmer handling and easier aiming, but more danger from infantry and shore vehicles

On open water, waves will push your boat and disrupt your aim, but that works both directions cause waves will lift your boat and help you avoid direct gunfire. To be honest, that sounds kinda annoying, and it most likely will be. Waves will hide your approach and break sightlines, so it’s annoying for both sides. Basically, the ocean is both your enemy and your teammate.

Inland waterways, on the other hand, are calmer and easier to control, but they put you in bigger danger. More engineers firing at you, more rockets, more water mines, and more people waiting to ruin your scenic trip. Also, beaching your craft makes it useless, and you won’t be able to return it to the water, so consider that. Let’s talk about new water transport.

RCB-90 Patrol Boat Guide

The RCB-90 Patrol Boat is the main combat boat in Battlefield 6 Season 4. Battlefield 4 players should recognize it. It’s not the fastest boat, but it has enough weapons to bully everything near the coastline. The RCB-90 is just a 2-seater, and thus it’s more fitting for full-on combat rather than transporting other players. Unless other players want to end up stranded amidst the ocean.

My favorite thing about the RCB-90 is that it can act as a mobile beachhead. When it gets near shore or a dock, the front ramp opens automatically, letting teammates spawn at the ramp as infantry. As you understand, it’s best for assaulting points rather than aimlessly traveling and fetching for kills.

7.7M NSW RHIB Guide

The 7.7M NSW RHIB is the smaller and faster naval vehicle. It was first introduced in REDSEC and now comes into Battlefield 6 Multiplayer with Season 4. This is not the boat for fighting against an RCB-90 or anything, really. This is the movement boat, the liminal boat if you will. You flank, insert a squad, and leave before you get blown up. Repeat until victory.

Best For

Flanks and beach landings, dramatic entrances

The RHIB’s main weapon is speed. The mounted machine gun can suppress infantry and damage light targets, but most of the firepower comes from passengers using their own weapons. Use RHIB for:

  • Fast traversal
  • Flanking landlocked enemies
  • Moving through waterways
  • Getting a squad behind an objective
  • Escaping fights

RHIB is not a mini patrol boat, and it’s not made for fighting. It does not have the capacities like health or weapons for that. If you slow down in front of Engineers, your squad is going back to the spawn screen to observe pretty ocean views.

RCB-90 vs RHIB TL;DR

Let’s sum up the comparison of these two new boats. Here’s how you use them:

Vehicle

Pick It When

RCB-90 Patrol Boat

Coastline control and vehicle shootouts. Acts as a support landing and as a spawn point

7.7M NSW RHIB

Fast squad delivery where they are needed the most, flanks, and quick objectives entry

Surprisingly, as it sounds, I think 7.7M loses to RCB-90 in more ways than just being a normal boat. To make a difference with 7.7M, you need to play in a squad and create organized breakthroughs, for instance to destroy an enemy tank or take back the objective. Though if your opponent is less organized than you are, 7.7M can be a means to oppress them even further. In short, use the RCB-90 when you want to fight for water control. Use the RHIB when you need to avoid fights and reach a more dominant angle. With that update, the rock-paper-scissors part of Battlefield should work properly, but mark my words that in the first days of the new patch they’ll release an update increasing 7.7M health and durability.

Top Naval Warfare Tips

Here’s how I’d play Naval Warfare in Season 4:

  1. Keep Moving: Stopping makes you an easy target for snipers that will be hiding on capes.
  2. Waves Are Cover: The new system is made to create dynamic hiding spots, and the water is more than decoration now.
  3. Missiles Before Guns: Send those RCB missiles to your enemy before you start firing the gun so you don’t draw their attention earlier than needed.
  4. Use Smoke Mortars: On naval maps, they’re extremely important cause attacking a beach area without them is gonna turn into the first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan reenactment.
  5. Use Illumination Mortars: To counter smoke mortars, you have illumination mortars.

Battlefield boats have always been strongest when they support the team and not when some egomaniac decides that he’s the captain now. The RCB-90 should help by creating beachheads and controlling shorelines. The RHIB should move squads into dominant positions where they’ll be able to surround or flank the enemy. If you just use them for traversal, maybe stick to infantry.

Battlefield 6 Season 4 Maps Overview

Battlefield 6 Season 4 adds two naval-focused maps: Tsuru Reef at launch and Wake Island in August during Phase 2 of the season. Both are built around land, air, and sea combat, but they don’t seem to play the same way.

Map

Release

Main Focus

Tsuru Reef

July 21, Season 4 launch

Biggest all-out warfare map with ocean, armor, aircraft, boats, and wide combat spaces

Wake Island

August 18, Phase 2

Reimagined classic map with island combat, naval warfare, and carrier ships as your HQs

Tsuru Reef

Tsuru Reef launches with Season 4 and is described as the biggest map in Battlefield 6 so far. This is an “every experience Battlefield has to offer” kind of map. Every kind of transport you can imagine plus oceanfronts. This is probably where the new naval system will feel the most chaotic. You’ll have boats fighting on the water, aircraft above them, armor pushing inland, and infantry trying to hold the actual objectives. The thing I like the most about Battlefield is how cinematic and condensed it can all look when stars align, and this map hopefully will give many such moments. The open ocean should make wave management much more important here, especially for RCB-90 players trying to control the coastline.

Wake Island

Wake Island returns later in Season 4, with Phase 2 planned for August 18. It’s not just a copy-paste return either. According to the devs, this version is being adjusted for Battlefield 6’s scale and systems. The biggest changes compared to previous parts are:

  • Both teams have carrier HQs on opposite sides of the island
  • A ship has been added near the center of the map
  • That central ship provides cover for naval vehicles during combat

Wake Island is obviously the nostalgia bait map, but the carrier HQ and central ship cover should make naval fights less one-sided. Instead of boats just getting nuked from every angle, there should be more room to reposition and cover now.
