Modern Warfare 4 How to Get the Divergence Camo

Grinding for the ultimate camo has always been a long road for the most dedicated fans of the series, but Modern Warfare 4 leaves other parts of the franchise in the dust. It’s even harder than getting the infamous Damascus camo from Modern Warfare 2019. Generic camos have been cut down in number, and now you have 3 Special camos for each weapon that can be unlocked by completing challenges unique to the gun. Also, challenges progress only if you defeat other players. I specify this to avoid writing “against Players” when describing each of these challenges. Basically, you can’t just go to DMZ and farm bots there. The challenges are different for each gun, and they’re also separate from Mastery camos, which are insanely grindy as well. Listing them all is gonna take forever, so I’ll be explaining how to progress weapons using the example of a classic M4 Assault Rifle. Here’s how to get the Divergence Camo in MW4:
- Unlock Gold: Complete 3 Special camo challenges and a Gold challenge
- Unlock Platinum: Complete 8 Gold camo challenges and a Plat challenge
- Unlock Harmonic Break: Complete 33 Platinum camo challenges plus a Harmonic Break challenge
- Unlock Divergence: Complete 33 Harmonic Break camo challenges. No extra challenge for this one
Just so you understand the extent of this grind: you have to unlock Platinum on every weapon currently in the game. That includes pistols, launchers, and a knife. With new seasons, when developers add more weapons, it’ll become easier, but not by a large margin. With a grind this lengthy, you gotta look in the mirror and ask yourself, “Is this worth it?” Of course it’s worth it. Momma didn’t raise a quitter. Stock up on energy drinks and let’s start.
How to Unlock Gold Camo in Modern Warfare 4

The easiest step to start off the Camo Completionist journey. In order to get a Gold camo, you only need to complete three simple Special challenges, unique to the gun you want to get the camo for. In my example, it’ll be an M4. To unlock a Gold camo for the M4, you need to complete:
- Myriad: Earn 25 weapon unlocks; Get 20 Point Blank Kills
- Night Ops: Earn 50 weapon unlocks; Get 20 Mounted Kills
- Green: Get 71 weapon unlocks; Get 25 Kills from behind
Not the hardest challenges. To get 20 point-blank kills, rebuild your M4 for hipfire and just hold chokepoints. Mounted kills are a bit more annoying cause COD suffers from peeker’s advantage, so I suggest combining it with kills from behind and just finding a good spot where the players won’t expect to find you. Once you’re done with all three Special challenges, you can now start completing the Gold camo challenge. The Gold challenge is:
- Complete 3 Weapon-Specific Camo Challenges
- Get 15 Player Kills in a single match
Gold camo is the only camo for the Completionist track that stays the same with every weapon type. Each time, you’ll be tasked with killing 15 players in a single match. If you’re lucky enough, you might even get a Gold camo unlocked in the very same game where you complete the Special challenges, so it’s super easy. The easiest way to get 15 kills in a single match is to play Hardpoint or any mode that requires you to get a certain score that’s not tied to kills, cause they usually last longer.
How to Unlock Platinum Camo in Modern Warfare 4

Platinum Camos are each tied to a respective weapon type, so in the case of the M4, you need to first complete Gold Camo challenges for 8 Assault Rifles (including the M4 itself). Besides that, each weapon type has its own Platinum camo challenge. Here’s how to unlock Platinum Camo for each weapon type in COD MW4:
- AR: Get 50 Headshots
- SMG: Get 25 Kills from Behind
- Shotgun: Get 50 Hipfire Kills
- LMG: Get 3 Kills without dying 15 times
- Marksman Rifle: Get 75 Kills while Prone
- Sniper Rifle: Get 75 Kills while Prone
- Pistol: Get 20 Kills from Behind
- Launcher: Get 2 Kills without taking Damage 15 times
- Knife: Get 3 Kills without Dying 15 times
Since I’ve taken the M4 as an example, in order to unlock Platinum, you’ll first need to complete a Gold challenge by getting 15 kills in a single match with each AR, and then land 50 headshots. Most of these aren’t that difficult, they’ll just take a long time. I recommend leaving the knife for last and waiting until MW4 inevitably gets Shipment. As for Launchers, just go to Ground War mode and shoot at enemy vehicles.

How to Unlock Harmonic Break Camo in Modern Warfare 4

Harmonic Break is the penultimate weapon camouflage. It’s an active camo, which means its pattern moves and shifts. Seems to me that the developers tried to make camos that would match most weapon skins that will be sold in the store or drop from the battle pass. Harmonic Break is quite lowkey in its presentation, so for some it’ll be appealing and for some disappointing. Harmonic Break requires you to unlock 33 Platinum camos, which, at the time of writing this article, means that you need to get Plat camos for all weapons. Each Harmonic has its own separate challenge, which isn’t any harder than the Platinum ones. Here’s how to unlock Harmonic Break camo for each weapon in Modern Warfare 4:
- AR: 25 Double Kills
- SMG: 50 Hipfire Kills
- Shotgun: 2 Kills without Reloading 25 times
- LMG: 2 Kills without releasing the trigger 25 times
- Marksman Rifle: 75 Oneshot Kills
- Sniper Rifle: 75 Oneshot Kills
- Pistol: 40 Hipfire Kills
- Launcher: 10 Kills in a match 7 times
- Knife: 25 Kills from behind
For me, it seems the easiest one here is the SMG unlock. The hardest would probably be the launcher camo or the LMG. My advice for LMGs is to get most attachments that decrease horizontal recoil so that you only have to control vertical recoil, which is significantly easier.
How to Unlock Divergence Camo in Modern Warfare 4

Divergence itself doesn’t have a final challenge. Once you complete 33 Harmonic Break camos, Divergence automatically unlocks for all weapons. After grinding through every Special camo, Gold, Platinum, and Harmonic Break challenge, the last step is the game admitting that you’ve suffered enough. Congratulations, you can now reap the rewards of the longest camo grind in the franchise. If you want to make the grind less painful, mix and match weapon classes. Start with the ones you like playing, then switch to a weapon you’re not that good at. For me, it’s sniper rifles. I just can’t land headshots for some reason, it feels really awkward. I usually start with an AR, then switch to a sniper rifle, then switch to Shotguns, and so on. This helps you not burn out on the way to Divergence.
Another thing I recommend is changing your loadout specifically for the challenge in front of you. Having a meta build is good and all, but if you’re farming hipfire kills with a build that has all attachments boosting its ADS, you’ll have to try much harder and longer. A horrendous Gunsmith build for general purpose can be a great one for hipfire.
F.A.Q
How do you unlock Divergence camo in Modern Warfare 4?
You unlock Divergence by completing 33 Harmonic Break camos. Divergence itself does not have a separate final challenge, so once the 33rd Harmonic Break requirement is finished, the camo unlocks automatically.
How do you unlock Gold camo in Modern Warfare 4?
First, complete all three weapon-specific Special camo challenges for that gun. Afterward, finish the Gold challenge by getting 15 Player Kills in a single match.
How do you unlock Platinum camo in MW4?
Platinum requires you to unlock Gold on the necessary number of weapons within that class, then complete the weapon-class-specific Platinum challenge. For Assault Rifles, for example, you need Gold on eight ARs and then 50 Headshots with the weapon you want Platinum on.
How do you unlock Harmonic Break camo in Modern Warfare 4?
You first need 33 Platinum camos, then complete the Harmonic Break challenge for each individual weapon. The objective changes by weapon class. For example, Double Kills for ARs, Hipfire Kills for SMGs, and One-Shot Kills for sniper and marksman rifles.
Do bot kills progress Camo challenges in MW4?
No. Completionist camo challenges specifically require Player Kills, so killing AI enemies in DMZ does not progress these objectives. If you want to grind Camos faster, always go for multiplayer.
