Best Modern Warfare 4 Loadouts

This is written prior the release of the game, and the multiplayer mode isn’t yet available. But I already figured out some of the best loadouts you should use from level 1. All are based on some of the best weapons in the game. Check out my CoD MW4 weapons tier list for more details on the weapons meta. The point being, these will be your best loadouts to start with.

There’s going to be way more cool loadouts once we all have some time to try out different weapons and modes, but right now, these are what I and the rest of the player base will be playing with:

The way perks work in Modern Warfare 4 is this: there are three different perk categories, and each class can equip one perk from each category. The loadouts I found at WZStats include two perks from the same category, so I've adjusted those combinations where needed to make them compatible with the official Create-a-Class system. I'll point out those adjustments in the individual builds.

Best ISO Nightshade Loadout - Best SMG Loadout

The ISO Nightshade is the first loadout I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys rushing around the map and taking fights at close range. SMGs have always been part of the meta, especially at the launch of each installment of CoD, and this time is no exception. Personally, I think this is the kind of gun that works best when you're constantly moving between objectives rather than holding the same position for half the match. Just remember to play objective, unless the objective is fragging enemies.

Here’s what goes into this loadout:

Blood Rush

Perk 3

Tracker (my addition)

Killstreak

UAV (4 kills)

The combination of Quick Fix and Blood Rush is probably my favorite part of this MW4 loadout. Quick Fix triggers health regeneration after a kill or while capturing or holding objectives. This is super useful because if you survive a gunfight, you’ll be left a one-shot for a while, so you always have to run away and hide to wait for the health to restore. With this, it’s much easier. Blood Rush, on the other hand, gives you access to Tactical Sprint and replenishes stamina after kills. I love the tactical sprint so much! Put them together, and you have a class designed around winning one engagement and getting straight into another.

Flash nades are just about as useful as stuns (a matter of preference, if you ask me), while Semtex is de facto the best lethal in the game. Portable Radar is also nice to have while you get your skills for the UAV. Just throw one near contested objectives rather than wasting it when rotating through an empty part of the map.

For the third perk, I've added Tracker, which lets you follow enemy footprints and see death markers. WZStats currently lists Bomb Squad alongside Quick Fix and Blood Rush, but Bomb Squad and Blood Rush both belong to Perk 2. Tracker fills the otherwise missing Perk 3 slot.

Best ISO Nightshade Attachments

The main weapon build follows the versatile Multiplayer configuration listed by WZStats. Rather than building exclusively around hipfire or maximum movement speed, I'd keep the full five-attachment configuration for close-to-mid-range encounters. This thing has an average TTK of 260ms up to 10m. So, this build should be particularly useful on maps where you'll regularly challenge enemies just outside typical SMG distance.

If you're still leveling the ISO Nightshade, WZStats also has a lower-level alternative that swaps the barrel to ZLR MAG-Z 9" and uses 9mm Parabellum Frangible ammunition instead of the laser. That's a useful starting point before you've unlocked everything needed for the main build.

Best M4 Loadout - Best Overall Multiplayer Loadout

The M4 is the best weapon you can start leveling up with. It’s what players used the most during the beta, and the gun is so good I bet everyone will be using it to unlock attachments in the full game. It just has everything you ever need from a perfect gun for CoD. The only thing you need now is to make the right loadout for it.

Here's the complete M4 loadout I'd recommend:

Zip Gun

Field Upgrade

Riot Shield

Perk 1

Ghost (my addition)

Perk 2

Fast Hands

Perk 3

Tracker (my addition)

Killstreak

Attack Helicopter (10 kills)

The Snapshot Grenade briefly reveals nearby enemies to your team, making it easier to check occupied buildings or objectives before pushing. The Riot Shield is a deployable Field Upgrade rather than a secondary weapon, and it gives you a piece of destructible cover that can be useful when defending a position.

Zip Gun is a new lethal in the game, and it’s honestly super fun to use. It gives you that quick “brrrrap” fire when you need to finish off an enemy, but you’re all out of bullets on your primary and switching to a secondary is not an option. It’s definitely a weird choice, for me at least, but others seem to have been enjoying it.

Fast Hands speeds up reloading, weapon swapping, and equipment use, which suits a versatile weapon like the M4 perfectly. I've added Ghost and Tracker to complete the class legally. Ghost helps you stay hidden from UAVs and other detection tools, while Tracker offers additional information when following enemies.

WZStats also shows Ninja and Blood Rush in its M4 perk selection, but those compete with Fast Hands for the same Perk 2 slot. If you'd rather play quietly, swap Fast Hands for Ninja, which reduces the range of your footstep sounds.

Best M4 Attachments

The recommended Multiplayer build uses a combination of grips, stock, and laser attachments instead of committing to a specialized long-range setup. That makes sense to me because the M4's biggest advantage is versatility, and I'd rather preserve that than turn it into a slower weapon that only excels at holding sightlines.

ZLR Phase Grip

ZLR ASP50 Stock

The M4 doesn't require an optic in this configuration, leaving all five slots available for other attachments. Of course, if you aren't comfortable using its default sights, I'd recommend swapping one attachment for an optic rather than forcing yourself to play with a sight picture you dislike.

The ZLR Phase Grip at level 52 is the last major attachment unlock you'll need for this setup. Until then, WZStats lists a lower-level M4 build using Slimline Elite (level 13), FSS IS300 (level 4), PF1 Fixed Stock (level 14), SZ Gen.6 PEQ (level 2), and 5.56 NATO Overpressured ammunition (level 3). I'd give that one a go while unlocking the attachments required for the full build.

Best Kastov 762 Loadout - The AK Loadout

The Kastov 762 is my alternative to the M4 for players who prefer dealing more damage per shot and approaching fights a little more carefully. It fits a more controlled playstyle where positioning, recoil management, and getting the first shots on target matter more than constantly sprinting around the map. I'd particularly recommend it to players who enjoy holding medium-distance angles and punishing enemies crossing open areas.

Compared to the M4, the Kastov 762 is less forgiving when you start missing shots or get caught in awkward close-range situations. That doesn't make it worse, but I would definitely adjust how aggressively I play depending on which rifle I'm using.

Here's the full Kastov 762 loadout:

Trophy System

Perk 1

High Alert (my addition)

Perk 2

Bomb Squad

Perk 3

Battle Hardened (my addition)

Killstreak

Artillery Beacon (6 kills)

What I like about this class is how much attention it gives to survival rather than pure movement speed. Bomb Squad reduces incoming damage from non-Killstreak explosives and makes you immune to Knockdown. Combined with the Trophy System, which destroys incoming projectiles, it gives you a pretty useful defensive setup for objectives where enemies constantly throw grenades.

Concussion Grenades also make sense here. They disorient enemies, reduce their reaction speed, and blur their vision, giving you an easier opening before challenging someone with the Kastov. The Sticky Grenade helps remove opponents from cover or pressure players trying to hold an objective.

I've added High Alert as Perk 1 and Battle Hardened as Perk 3 to complete the setup. High Alert warns you when you're spotted by an enemy outside your view, while Battle Hardened reduces the effects of enemy Tactical Equipment. This gives the Kastov a more defensive perk combination than the ISO Nightshade, which is exactly how I'd prefer to play it.

The original WZStats class uses Ninja and Blood Rush alongside Bomb Squad, but all three occupy Perk 2. If you prefer more mobility over explosive resistance, replace Bomb Squad with Blood Rush.

Best Kastov 762 Attachments

This is the versatile Multiplayer build recommended by WZStats. Unlike the M4 setup, it includes an optic, which I'd say is particularly useful on a weapon that's better suited to medium-distance engagements. I wouldn't sacrifice the optic unless you're completely comfortable using the default sights.

The biggest downside here is the attachment progression. FJX Ghostfire 16.3" doesn't unlock until weapon level 61, making it the most demanding primary-weapon attachment in the three featured loadouts. The underbarrel and stock also require considerable weapon leveling, so don't expect to have everything available immediately.

I'd build toward the full configuration gradually, prioritizing the optic and whichever handling attachments you've already unlocked. You can also experiment with the weapon before reaching level 61. The Kastov 762 doesn't suddenly become usable only after unlocking its final barrel.

Best Krait P68 Secondary Build

All of these loadouts use the Krait P68, which, you could say, is not the best choice for a secondary if you don’t have the Overkill Perk. I think it's a reasonable backup for all three classes, especially when your primary runs out of ammunition in the middle of a fight. With the ISO Nightshade, it's something I'd switch to when I can't safely reload. With the M4 or Kastov, it can also help when an enemy catches me at close range.

Here's the complete Krait P68 configuration recommended by WZStats:

GW 700-V

18

P68 Tapper 9

29

The defining attachment here is the Krait P68 Commando Apex, which unlocks at weapon level 34. This attachment makes it a makeshift melee weapon by sticking a knife to the pistol’s grip. It's also the last unlock required to complete this particular setup. Apex attachments are a more substantial form of weapon customization than ordinary attachment swaps, so I'd recommend getting familiar with how the pistol behaves before and after unlocking this configuration.

The Magtac .45 rear grip is available at just level 5, making it one of your earliest options. The GW 700-V laser and XRK DOC-40 6" barrel become available later, followed by the SFO Proto-33 muzzle and P68 Tapper 9 trigger action. This gives you a clear progression path toward the complete build.

Personally, I wouldn't spend too much time leveling the Krait before getting my primary weapons into a decent state. Your pistol is an emergency tool in these classes, not something you should rely on for most engagements. Once you've unlocked the attachments you need for your favorite primary, you can spend more time finishing the secondary build.

How to Choose the Best MW4 Loadout

I wouldn't pick one loadout and force myself to use it on every Multiplayer map. Modern Warfare 4 gives you enough flexibility to build several classes around different engagements, and these three weapons already cover the most common situations pretty well. I'd recommend saving all three setups so you can switch between them instead of rebuilding the same class every time.

My general recommendations would be:

  • Small maps and aggressive objective pushes: ISO Nightshade, especially with Quick Fix and Blood Rush.
  • Mixed-range maps and standard 6v6 Multiplayer: M4, since you can react to both close-range and mid-range engagements.
  • Maps with longer lanes or defensive objectives: Kastov 762, where you can make better use of cover and positioning.

I'd also experiment with perks before changing every attachment on a weapon. For example, swapping between Ninja, Fast Hands, and Blood Rush can noticeably change how a class plays without requiring you to learn a completely new recoil pattern. Just remember that they all occupy Perk 2, so you can only equip one of them at a time.

The same applies to Field Upgrades. Portable Radar makes sense when you're aggressively searching for enemies, while Trophy System is more useful for defending objectives. Personally, I think these decisions can be just as important as finding the perfect weapon build.

F.A.Q.

What is the best loadout in Modern Warfare 4?

The M4 is my overall recommendation because it's versatile enough to handle most Multiplayer situations. The ISO Nightshade is a better pick if you mainly fight at close range, while the Kastov 762 is worth trying if you prefer harder-hitting Assault Rifles.

What is the best SMG loadout in MW4?

Of the three complete classes currently covered, the ISO Nightshade is the best SMG option. I'd pair it with Quick Fix and Blood Rush to support aggressive gameplay, and use Portable Radar to help locate enemies around objectives.

What is the best Assault Rifle loadout in MW4?

I'd start with the M4 because it's easier to fit into different playstyles and map layouts. The Kastov 762 is a solid alternative if you're comfortable with a heavier-hitting weapon and prefer more deliberate gunfights.

What are the best perks for Modern Warfare 4 loadouts?

It depends on your playstyle, but Quick Fix, Blood Rush, Fast Hands, Ninja, and Bomb Squad are all worth considering. MW4 uses three perk categories, so you must select compatible perks rather than simply combining three favorites.

What is the best secondary weapon for MW4 loadouts?

The Krait P68 is the secondary used across all three loadouts covered in this guide. I'd use it as a backup when reloading isn't an option, especially after unlocking its Commando Apex configuration.

Will more Modern Warfare 4 loadouts be added?

Yes, this guide currently covers only three complete loadouts: ISO Nightshade, M4, and Kastov 762. The list will be expanded as more builds become available and the post-launch meta becomes clearer.
