How DMZ Cash Works in Modern Warfare 4

Cash is one of the primary resources in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ. It is used for all sorts of purchases, including weapons and their attachments as well as other vendor items. You earn DMZ Cash by completing different objectives on the map or selling various items you’ve managed to loot during your deployments.

You will often find yourself in desperate need of some Cash in DMZ. If you die on the mission, you’ll have to pay to use your operator again. You will also have to pay for all sorts of upgrades. In fact, Bank Upgrade — the most important one you can get early on because it increases your bank limit — is going to cost you money in the first place.

This is why farming DMZ Cash becomes a priority for many players, and you should follow their steps. Unfortunately, there are quite a few issues these same players encounter during their attempts to fill their bank accounts, and I want to help you avoid these problems before you’ve encountered them yourself.

Farming DMZ Cash in Modern Warfare 4

Before you start farming cash, I have to warn you about what to expect. The current state of DMZ is quite punishing, and the economy isn’t in a good spot, especially if you’re a solo player. Many people looking to have a casual PvE experience get burnt out pretty quickly due to high costs of revives and weapon upgrades.

It does get a bit better once you get a bunch of necessary upgrades and learn the map as well as establish better priorities, but your first few deployments might be brutal. I can safely say that as it stands now, DMZ is far better when you have a squad of experienced people helping you out — and that’s a shame, because not everyone has that many CoD-playing friends.

That said, I am certain that you can get your cash flowing as long as you follow these specific tips. It is a bit unfortunate that you have to survive the initial grind and confusion, but once you get enough DMZ Cash, you’ll be able to enjoy the freedom the mode provides to the fullest extent.

Complete Dynamic and Side Ops

Dynamic Ops are the most consistent way to earn DMZ Cash, and there is no reason not to complete them. The game allows you to choose one right as you’re about to deploy, and you should always take it if you aim to farm some money during this run. Essentially, there is no real reason to choose Free Roam — it’s not like you’ll find something better to do, unless you’re a skilled PvP player with a great squad behind you.

Now, Dynamic Ops may vary in terms of difficulty and completion requirements: some are extremely basic, others may take some time. No matter what, you’re going to play against NPCs, which is much less problematic than interacting with other players. You are also going to get up to 20,000 DMZ Cash.

Side Ops are essentially miniature versions of Dynamic Ops, and are usually much easier and quicker to complete, but the payout is also nowhere near as good. If you see an opportunity to do a few of these in quick succession, go for it.

The important part here is that Operations place DMZ cash directly into your bank. Even if you fail to extract, you’re going to keep them, and that’s as reliable as money can get in DMZ.

Switch Your Operators

This tip is probably the most important piece of advice I can give to you. I see people struggling with the mode’s basic progression a lot, and a major reason for that is regular setbacks caused by operator death. DMZ features a rescue cost that gets higher with each operator level, and even its baseline is quite noticeable early on.

Many people like to stick with a single character, and that’s an understandable, intuitive decision. However, DMZ  provides you with several slots for operators for a good reason. You really, really shouldn’t use your one high-level operator for every deployment if you expect to make DMZ cash sustainably.

Your high-level operator should be used only for specific geared runs when you are hunting for something other than basic resources. Treat this character as your protagonist who can’t be bothered with low-stakes missions. It’s fine to invest in them and their gear because they’re going to give you the best shot at claiming some luxuries like Keys.

Earning DMZ Cash is a job for your low-level operator, because even they should be able to handle the basic Dynamic Ops reliably — and that is by far the most straightforward and reliable way to earn money. If you lose this operator, your expenses are (comparatively) low, and you can get them back to try again.

I agree that this isn’t the most exciting gameplay loop, but it is by far the most functional one. If you want to save yourself from unnecessary frustration, follow this tip at all times.

Complete Story Missions

Story Missions are there to provide some narrative to what’s happening in Hajin, but that’s not what you’re interested in right now. What’s important is that completing these will reward you with a bunch of stuff, including DMZ Cash.

The story starts out super easy so that anyone can obtain their initial goodies and get a grip on what’s going on in the game mode. However, it will get progressively more and more challenging, so you better send your best operator. Some missions might offer a hefty payout — like the Casino one.

However, remember that the game always features other players, and they might intervene at any moment, or even ambush you on purpose, which has recently become a common case with the aforementioned casino mission.

Loot Valuables

This one comes naturally — no matter what your goal is, you are going to be looting stuff on your DMZ deployments all the time. Some of this stuff is going to be Chemicals, Electronics, Metals, and Synthetics, which don’t occupy your inventory space and are used for crafting. But other things will be various valuables that you can potentially sell for some extra cash.

Anything with a Diamond icon belongs in that category, although the costs may vary significantly. What is important to remember is that all of it won’t earn you a single dollar if you don’t manage to extract on time. If you have run across lots of these and are willing to get them to your FOB, be prepared to fight your way to (and out of) the exfiltration point.

Make Responsible Financial Decisions

This one might sound a bit like a joke, but with so many players losing tens of thousands of Cash in a few seconds, I feel obligated to include this section.

First of all, the game might incentivise you to upgrade your weapons, but wouldn’t it be really bad if you spent 40,000 Cash on something only to die 15 minutes later and lose said weapon for good? Oh, and now you can’t rescue your operator as well, because you have zero Cash in your account after all the purchases.

Some DMZ features are simply very expensive and clearly designed for rich players who know exactly what they’re doing. A good example of it is paying 100,000 Cash for a Cargo Plane infiltration. Most likely, your deployment will never pay off if you start it by spending a ludicrous sum of money on getting a better starting spot.

Essentially, always have some money available to you if things go south, because they likely will. A random death shouldn’t cost you several hours of progress.

Deal with Lieutenants

This one is only as good of a DMZ Cash farming option as strong and well-prepared you are as a player. Killing Lieutenants is very beneficial in terms of XP and DMZ Cash even if you don’t collect the Dog Tags. However, fighting them is quite demanding, and it’s easy to fail, since each one requires a different approach you might not be familiar with at first.

To make it worse, if you are going all in and collect the Dog Tag after killing one, you become a target for all players in the area, and that is even worse than the Lieutenant fight itself. Even the most confident players won’t feel too comfortable being hunted for sport, so I’d suggest immediate extraction at least for the first few times.

What are the best ways to farm DMZ Cash in Modern Warfare 4?

Completing Dynamic Ops is your number one priority. It is by far the most reliable and consistent way to earn DMZ Cash, and it doesn’t punish you for failing to extract as long as the objective is done.

Is selling loot viable in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ?

Yes and no. Selling loot is a good source of extra money, and you will sell a lot of it throughout your playthrough. To put it simply, loot is great, but you won’t get to carry a significant portion of it back home.

Yes, you can earn DMZ Cash by completing Story Missions, and some of them can be very rewarding. However, make sure you can actually overcome the challenges thrown at you by the game, and don’t forget that other players might ambush you unexpectedly to ruin your attempts at securing loot.
