Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Weapons Tier List Quick Summary:
- Versatility matters a lot in DMZ, since you rarely know where the next fight is going to happen.
- Assault Rifles and SMGs dominate the current PvP meta because they cover the ranges you fight at most often.
- Snipers are still worth bringing, but they generally work better as a secondary weapon rather than your only answer to other Operators.
- A-tier weapons are completely viable and can easily outperform S-tier choices if they fit your preferred playstyle better.
- This ranking focuses primarily on DMZ PvP performance, rather than how quickly each weapon kills regular AI.

Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Weapons Tier List

In Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer, you should have a gun that helps you quickly kill a player who’s right in front of you, usually not more than 20 meters away. That’s why you’ll see people using ARs with no stock or barely paying attention to recoil dampeners. This won’t fly in DMZ. A good DMZ gun is something that, in multiplayer, will be considered too slow to run. Hajin map is pretty big, and you’ll regularly have shootouts at long distances. Another problem the gun needs to take care of is the AI enemies, and there are a lot of them. You’ll chew through bullets as if you came in with empty pockets after one or two squads of NPCs swarm you. All of this means that you either have to carry weapons with high stopping power, good range, and big mags. While almost all guns can tick these boxes with the right attachments, only a few of them feel right for such a gameplay. Despite my notes about NPCs before that, this list is largely ranked based on PvP performance first and foremost. With that said, here’s a Modern Warfare 4 DMZ weapons tier list:
|
Tier |
Weapons |
|
S |
Han 86, M4, PPSH-41, ISO Nightshade, X-58 NYX |
|
A |
Kastov 762, Type 73, Rezi 12, MAR-9, FINN LMG, Signal 50, KG-7 Vulcan, Warlord, APOC-338, Mosin-Nagant |
|
B |
Patriot XMR, Hyeon Burst, ORIS 8.6, .50 GS, Cronen Squall, Astaroth .57 |
|
C |
Krait P68, Oden, Axion, VEL 46, Mojave .357, PM-40 Anvil |
|
D |
Wz.55 Striga, SANG 9mm, PILA, RPG-8, JOKR |
From what I’ve been able to test and try, the gap between S and A isn’t that huge. Kastov 762 hits very hard, but kicks like a mule. On a side note, this game kinda suffers from the same issue MW2 did, which is annoying visual recoil, and Kastov is definitely an offender in this category. Type 73 is the best LMG, and though it has good ammo capacity, it’s too heavy for this map. Rezi 12 is the best shotgun and is probably the best secondary weapon option so far, MAR-9 is a really strong marksman rifle, and Signal is the best sniper rifle for DMZ, no doubt about that. These weapons just aren’t as universally useful as the five S-tier options. Everything below A tier is something that needs buffs to work well, or complete trash.
Best S-Tier Weapons in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ

The S-tier weapons all have one thing in common: they’re versatile enough to be your main weapon in any situation. Han 86 and M4 are your typical all-rounder ARs, which are already staples of the series, while the PPSH-41, ISO, and X-58 NYX are ripping people in close-to-mid range. My favorite loadout right now is Han 86 paired with Rezi 12. Alternatively, I Use PPSH-41 with Signal 50. For now, let’s break down all S-Tier weapons separately. Note that I won’t be focusing on anything below that tier.
HAN 86
Han 86 is my pick for the best overall MW4 DMZ weapon. This weapon works equally well in mid and long ranges, and even though it loses in its RPM to the M4 or any SMG, in this case it’s a plus, cause it makes it much easier to control the recoil. Low RPM means that you should avoid using it in close quarters and switch to a shotgun or SMG if available. The stats for the Han 86 are:
- Damage: 33
- Range: 45
- Mag size: 30
- Fire rate: 740 rpm
- Accuracy: 57
- Handling: 64
Though damage is the worst out of all ARs, its accuracy and handling are bar none. The mag size isn’t anything special, and I highly recommend getting a bigger mag once available. Its weak damage is what makes it sub-par in close quarters, and that’s why you want to pair it with something hard-hitting to make up for it. For what it does, there’s no better gun for DMZ.
M4
It’s M4. I don’t think there was a game in the series where M4 wouldn’t be an S-Tier weapon. M4 is right behind Han 86. It's the most versatile weapon in Modern Warfare 4, and that’s why it’s here. I mean, no need to overexplain it. If you’re a fan, you know the gun inside and out, and it’s not different from any other M4 in the series. Below are the stats for the M4:
- Damage: 34
- Range: 46
- Mag size: 30
- Fire rate: 810 rpm
- Accuracy: 48
- Handling: 63
The reason M4 works so well in DMZ is pretty obvious. It’s difficult to put it in a situation where it becomes completely useless. It has great RPM, the best in the AR category, that allows you to fight back against an SMG player. It has great accuracy and handling that only lose slightly to other ARs, such as the aforementioned Han 86, but all of that doesn’t matter because, paradoxically, being such an average gun results in it being a great all-rounder for any situation you’re in.

PPSH-41
PPSH-41 is currently the number one SMG in the DMZ PvP and easily one of my favorite weapons for aggressive raids. If you intend on raiding Strongholds, urban areas, or pushing enemy squads instead of watching them through a scope, this oldie will surprise you. It’s unusual to see such an old gun in a Modern Warfare game, but it’s there, and it rips:
- Damage: 29
- Range: 34
- Mag size: 70
- Fire rate: 1110 rpm
- Accuracy: 35
- Handling: 68
I guess you already know why it’s such a beast. With 70 rounds in the mag and 1110 RPM, you can just shoot in the general direction of the enemy and eventually bury them under that lead shower. The downside of this gun is range. Pair it with any long-range gun, cause it works decently at medium range, and there you go: ultimate face melter loadout. This combination is especially useful around extraction points, cause for some reason I don’t frequently meet people in other places, but I already met enemy players around the extractions three times.
ISO Nightshade
ISO Nightshade is the second-best SMG. This and the PPSH come pretty close, even though they have different ways to approach fights. If PPSH-41 is for spray-and-pray shootouts, Nightshade is for movement-oriented players. It has crazy good mobility stats, but it can’t flex a 70-round magazine. Here are ISO’s stats:
- Damage: 32
- Range: 35
- Mobility: 79
- Mag size: 30
- Fire rate: 923 rpm
- Accuracy: 38
- Handling: 71
ISO Nightshade is kind of a hybrid weapon. It’s in the middle ground between an AR and SMG, but with better mobility. When you’ve upgraded this gun enough, you’ll feel it even more with the right attachments. Its potential is huge, and I’d say that it’s a better AR than most.
X-58 Nyx
X-58 Nyx rounds out the S-Tier and is the third SMG in our top. That puts it below PPSH-41 and ISO Nightshade within the class, but hey, it’s still an S-Tier, which means it’s far better than other guns. It unlocks fairly late when you reach level 46, so if you’re just a beginner, take a look at this guide to find out how to advance faster. If ISO and PPSH-41 have clear use cases, Nyx is an all-rounder. Despite having the lowest range out of all SMGs, it has amazing accuracy, letting you land all of your shots with zero issues. It has a very comfy recoil pattern, or, to be more precise, it has zero recoil. Not having to install recoil attachments frees up a few slots that you can spend on, say, damage, range, or better mobility:
- Damage: 33
- Range: 33
- Mag size: 40
- Fire rate: 800 rpm
- Accuracy: 49
- Handling: 70
I mentioned range for a reason. It has a big damage drop-off, turning your bullets into peas beyond 15 meters or so. While good accuracy somewhat mitigates this problem, this gun severely needs good range attachments. Alternatively, you can build it to be a hipfire monster. Overall, this gun is amazing and can be used in many ways.
Best MW4 DMZ Weapons by Category
The overall S tier doesn’t mean every weapon class is represented there. Some A-tier guns are still the best weapon available in their category, which makes them worth considering when you want a more specialized loadout. I’ve prepared this little table with the best MW4 DMZ weapons sorted by category:
|
Category |
Best Pick |
|
Best Overall |
HAN 86 |
|
Best Assault Rifle |
HAN 86 |
|
Best SMG |
PPSH-41 |
|
Best LMG |
TYPE 73 |
|
Best Shotgun |
REZI 12 |
|
Best Marksman Rifle |
MAR-9 |
|
Best Sniper Rifle |
SIGNAL 50 |
|
Best Pistol |
KRAIT P68 |
Signal 50 is the A-Tier gun I found myself using most often. Being A instead of S doesn’t really matter when I specifically need a sniper, because none of the five S-tier weapons can fit this role. It’s in A-Tier only because it’s a specialized weapon and can’t be used in every situation. The same logic applies to Type 73 if you like LMGs or Rezi 12 if you intend on exploding players’ faces inside buildings.
