Diablo 4 Season 13 Detailed Crafting Guide

In Season 13, our main tool for crafting is the Horadric Cube. It’s a powerful artifact that belongs to Horadrims. In Diablo 4, you use it to transform, transmute, modify, and change items. Basically, this is an in-depth instrument that you need to fine-tune each aspect of your gear. Now, you don’t need to pray for a good drop cause you can make one yourself. This expands crafting far beyond just tempering and masterworking. If you want to find out how the Horadric Cube works in detail, use this guide. Horadric Cube is your number one tool to break the limits of your character and get the loot you need, especially useful in times when you feel that you can’t progress further. This section will be a step-by-step guide to crafting the absolute masterpiece on your own, without relying on RNG and having to sacrifice your house roach to a pagan god. I’ll walk you through all possible routes you might take when creating the gear to end all gears. There will be three separate sections, each discussing possible ways you can enhance the equipment:

1. Crafting from Scratch: How to craft a perfect item from common, magic, or rare, and how you get your perfect affixes.
2. Rerolling Affixes: How to reroll an affix if you didn’t get what you wanted.
3. Finishing your Gear: Socketing, tempering, enchanting, adding an aspect, masterworking your gear, and finally transfiguring an item.

Before we start, make sure you have enough resources. There are only two types of resources you will absolutely need when crafting:

• Primordial Dust: There are seven types of dust, going from common to rarest - Raw, Coarse, Refined, Volatile, Pure, Attuned, and Enhanced. Dust can be found pretty much anywhere, from War Plans’ rewards to Whisper caches to Elite monsters (bosses included, obviously). 
• Infused Horadric Resin: This one is a bit rarer cause you can only get this material by salvaging Charms and Seals, so make sure to disassemble the ones you don’t need. You’ll need it only for charm crafting, though, so don’t worry about that for now.

Apart from that, we also have Tuning Prisms, which the Cube tells you are optional when crafting gear, but they’re actually the most important part of gear crafting. There are eight types of Tuning Prisms, with two being available only for Amulet tuning:

Chromatic Tuning Prism	Targets the Resistance affixes
Entropic Tuning Prism	Removes the riskiest and the most powerful outcomes, making the roll safer. Turns an item into Unmodifiable with a 100% chance
Kullean Tuning Prism	Adds a legendary affix to an Amulet AND leaves it modifiable

Without the Prisms, you will not be able to laser focus the affixes you need. If you want to see what affix each Prism might add, use this Google Doc, which shows you the list of all rollable affixes. 

Prisms are also the only way to break the rule of 3 affixes per Legendary, excluding tempered. That’s why they are so important, so unless you already have a decent number of Tuning Prisms, I recommend getting at least 20 of the ones you need. Now, let’s finally talk about making the weapon your own.

How to Craft Perfect Gear in Diablo 4

With Season 13 changes, you can now get Greater Affixes even on common gear. Now, all types of gear drop at all Torment tiers. Some people love it, some hate it, but the devs definitely had a vision, and I can respect that. Much of what we talk about here will be applicable to any gear you get, but I highly recommend favoriting the common and magic rarity gear that has one or two GAs on it for crafting. Be careful, as during crafting, you may accidentally remove the Greater Affix from the gear if you choose the wrong gear modification recipe in the Horadric Cube. Now, let me tell you how to craft best gear in Diablo 4:

1. Select “Add Affix”: Put the piece of gear you want to modify into the Horadric Cube. The materials for the recipe will be added automatically. I’ll add in a Magic mace that has +Max Life Greater Affix.
2. Add a Tuning Prism: Without it, there’s a high chance that you’ll craft something you won’t need. The devs said it’s impossible to brick an item cause you can remove an affix you don’t need, but let’s not risk it. I’m crafting a weapon, so I'll add an Aggressive prism to dish out an Offensive affix.
3. Press “Transmute”: Doing this will spend your resources and a prism and add an affix to an item. Don’t worry, it will not remove any of the pre-existing affixes.

That’s the first step. I got +12% to All Damage on my weapon. I’m half-alright with this cause I’m playing as a Warlock, and my main damage dealer is Rampage, which deals Abyss damage, so ideally I want to roll for that. But for now, it’s okay, as this is only the first step and I already have a decent affix. Now I want to add a Core affix. My main stat is Willpower, so I add in an Adept Tuning Prism and press Transmute again. Now I get +307 to Willpower. Not bad. But let’s say you didn’t get what you were looking for. What now?

 

 

How to Reroll Affixes the Right Way in Diablo 4

Maximum life is an alright toughness boost, but I don’t need Defensive affixes on my weapon. What do I do? The best recipe for this is “Focused Reroll”. It lets you reroll an unwanted affix to another one of the same category. Here’s an instruction:

1. Select “Focused Reroll”
2. Add an item, which affix you want to reroll
3. Add in a respective Tuning Prism of the affix you want to reroll
4. Press “Transmute”

Voila, you have now changed one Defensive affix to another. But what if you don’t want a Defensive affix on your item, period? Well, then you can remove an affix completely. Here’s how to do it:

1. Select “Remove Affix”
2. Add an item and a Tuning Prism that corresponds to the affix you want to remove
3. Press “Transmute”

Be careful, as if you have any other Defensive affixes on your gear, the affix will be chosen randomly. Always bear this in mind. You have to know that this way is not what you usually do if you just want another affix. You usually remove the affix if you want to downgrade the rarity of an item. For instance, downgrading a magic item to a common one to then make a Unique out of a common piece of gear with the “Upgrade to Unique” recipe. 

There’s an alternative way you can remove the Defensive affix and reroll it to another one automatically, and it’s the “Chaotic Reroll” recipe. Repeat the same steps described in the previous instructions. If you want to reroll specifically the Defensive affix, put in a Protector’s Tuning Prism. Otherwise, it will reroll a random affix from all present on your gear.

 

 

Making Finishing Strokes

Now you have all the affixes you want. What now? Your following steps will be honing the item. You do it in the following ways:

Upgrade	Explanation
Tempering	Add affixes from found Temper Sheets at the Blacksmith. You can add up to 2 extra affixes that do not count towards the max affix count of an item. You can reroll them as well, but you can do it a limited number of times and accidentally brick your gear. That is, if you don’t have Scroll of Restoration, which drops from Infernal Hordes and World Bosses. It lets you reset the count of rerolls.
Enchanting	Select one of the affixes found on your gear and reroll it. Each subsequent reroll costs more than the previous one, both in terms of materials and gold. The affixes you get are random and aren’t tied to the category of the substituted affix.
Adding an Aspect	Go to the Occultist and imprint a legendary aspect on your gear. If you are new to Diablo 4, you gotta know that you can only do that if you’ve disassembled a piece of legendary gear that had a legendary power on it.
Masterworking	Compared to the previous seasons, you don’t need to have your item Tempered before doing it. You can masterwork your gear up to a maximum of 25 times. Each level improves your gear by 1%. It improves both inherent properties and affixes. Masterworking is extremely important, as the final masterworking step turns one of the normal affixes into a Greater one.

After you’re done with all item improvements, it’s time to Transfigure an item. It’s one of the Gear Modification recipes, and it lets you add another modifier to your gear. Usually an extra affix. You can add a Tuning Prism to influence the outcome. Normal transfiguration has a high chance of making an item unmodifiable, which means that you will not be able to change it in any way, except for socketing it with gems or runes, so be absolutely sure that you will not add anything else to it. If your item doesn’t become unmodifiable, congratulations! You can continue gambling and improving it until it becomes one. 

Transfiguration works insanely well with Amulets, as if you use a Kullean Tuning Prism, you can add an extra Legendary Aspect to the Amulet, and it also leaves it modifiable. It works even with Unique amulets, so if you got your hands on something cool, make sure to keep it until you get that Tuning Prism.
