What Is Solo Self Found in Diablo 4

Solo Self Found is a new gameplay mode coming to Diablo 4 Season 14. It’s a mode in which you can only play the game solo, never uniting into groups with any other players. If you’re a lone wolf, nothing really changes for you, but if you’re used to playing in a party, this might become a fun new challenge. I’ll explain whether you should consider making an SSF character or not. Here are a few key concepts you have to grasp before you try this mode: you can’t trade, can’t group farm, can’t join anyone. It’s between you and Mephisto on Torment XII. Gamewise, nothing changes much. It’s still about farming gear and clearing content while maintaining your build. So yeah, once you decide to go SSF, you can’t opt out. Wonder why? That’s cause your SSF character is fighting for their place in the leaderboards for a chance to become one of the top 1,000 on the server, plus a nice weekly cosmetic effect and a title. I hear you saying, “And that’s it?” Well, yeah. You don’t get any better loot for running solo. It just makes the leaderboard positioning a bit more honest cause your character can’t top it because the rest of your team is as stacked as you are. You might argue that for some, this is the only motivation to play this mode, and well, it is. Unless you want that Halo effect around your head that you can only get from this mode.

Why Play Solo Self Found?

The biggest reason to play SSF in Diablo 4 Season 14 is the Tower, which is just a fancier name for the leaderboard. SSF characters have their own separate Tower Leaderboards, so pushing Pit levels is actually honest this time cause you can’t rely on your team. Of course, it’s Diablo we’re talking about, so that honesty still has RNG mixed into it. Some lucky sons of guns will get an insanely lucky drop like one of the best Mythic Uniques, Heir of Perdition, and will pulverize their Pit level at least a few times faster than you do in your shabby build. Nonetheless, you can be that lucky guy, and that means that you might be able to show off your Halo effect to your friends. That is, if you even have friends playing Diablo. Basically, SSF is best for players who enjoy a challenge or just play alone in general. If you like:

• Solo progression
• Fairer leaderboards
• Farming the gear yourself
• Not relying on trading
• Hardcore, but without perma-death
• Slower progression

I really recommend that you try this mode. You’re not losing anything. In fact, sometimes randoms are like extra weights that only make the monsters harder to kill while not really bringing anything to the table. If you’re someone who regularly plays Diablo 4 with friends, then SSF is not for you. Or at least it won’t be the only character you’ll create this season.

This said, SSF is not a glorified single-player mode. You can still meet other players during the open world activities like Helltides or World Bosses. The only difference is you can’t join their party to increase your XP gains from, say, the World Boss, as players usually do. You may meet your friend in any sort of open-world challenge by a stroke of luck, but you still can’t combine your forces for long.

How to Start Solo Self Found in Diablo 4 Season 14

You choose a Solo Self Found mode during character creation. This time, you can choose SSF as another option alongside Seasonal or Hardcore. When creating your Season 14 character, you’ll choose between the usual options first, like class, name, and appearance, but once at the final character creation step, you can select Solo Self Found. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to start Solo Self Found in Diablo 4 Season 14:

1. Create a new character
2. Choose Seasonal realm
3. Pick Normal or Hardcore
4. Select Solo Self Found
5. Choose your campaign state
6. Start the season

As you noticed, you can select the campaign state just like with other game modes in Diablo 4. If you’re new or just want to replay the campaign, then you can select any of the story addons that you own, but do note that playing through the campaign is slower than just selecting a Completed campaign status. If you’ve never played Diablo, maybe don’t select the Completed campaign option cause you’ll have a much harder (and arguably more boring) time than you would if you completed the campaign first. There will be no one to quickly help you reach level 70 now, remember that. Can’t rely on familiar carry tactics anymore. Should You Play SSF Mode in Diablo 4?

If you are always playing solo, I’d say at least give it a try. The only activity you’ll be cut off from is the Dark Citadel. Thing is, this is a great mode to see if you can create your own builds instead of trading Uniques with other players or relying on your friend’s loot goblin luck.
