Moontide Sea Chest Locations

A small note before we start - as you can see from the screenshots, I am only listing chests themselves, but there are also puzzle chests, which are rewarded for completing various puzzles. Those would be marked on the interactive maps with different icons, per their respective puzzle type. Those are not listed here.

Moontide Sea is one of the more fragmented parts of Frost Moon, with chests scattered across small lunar islands, shoals, and the southern Curtain-Form Blackbody Containment Lab area.

In total, Moontide Sea includes:

  • 10 Common Chests
  • 3 Exquisite Chests
  • 2 Precious Chest
  • 1 Luxurious Chest

Several chests here are tied to nearby puzzle routes instead of simple overworld pickups. The northern island cluster is a good example, since multiple rewards become available after solving the same nearby puzzle.

Check out what different chest types can contain inside on this wiki; this could help you prioritize, although oftentimes different chest types are stacked together.

#

Chest Type

How to Get

1

Common

Northern Moontide Sea island. Complete puzzle #100439 on the nearby island, then use the portal/device to reach this hidden spot. The chest is beside a Precious Chest and an Oculus.

2

Common

In the same northern puzzle-access area as Chest #1. Reach it after solving puzzle #100439 and entering through the nearby mechanism.

3

Precious

Northern Moontide Sea island cluster. Complete puzzle #100439, use the portal/device, and claim the Precious Chest next to the Common Chest.

4

Exquisite

On the small isolated island northwest of the main Moontide Sea cluster. Activate the central elevator/mechanism, drop into the lower chamber through the hole, then defeat the spherical mech enemy inside to unlock the chest.

5

Common

On the larger northern Moontide Sea island, near a glowing ruin doorway and blue moon plants. Defeat the Hydro Slime beside the chest to unlock it.

6

Exquisite

On top of the roof of the circular ruin, not inside the cave below. Climb onto the roof and complete the nearby orb-creature puzzle by pushing the larger round creature toward the small blue one to spawn the chest.

7

Precious

On the central tower island. Solve the three nearby robot-ball puzzles around the island cluster to activate and open the middle tower, then head to the top and look beneath the pile of large spheres to find the chest.

8

Luxurious

In the same central tower location as Chest #7. Complete all three surrounding robot-ball puzzles to open the tower, then go to the top and check under the pile of large spheres to reveal the Luxurious Chest.

9

Exquisite

On the central circular platform near the tower puzzle. Defeat the enemy first, then push the three spawned balls into the marked blue devices around the platform. If the balls do not appear, teleport away or relog, then return to reset the puzzle.

10

Common

On a small Moontide Sea island beside a tall pale rock formation and blue moon plants. Defeat the three Hydro Slimes guarding the chest to unlock it.

11

Common

On a separate flat snowy island patch near the water. Defeat the three Hydro Slimes gathered around the chest to remove the lock.

12

Common

On a small snowy ledge near the edge of the water, beside blue coral-like plants and pale rock formations. The chest is sitting in the open, so just reach the spot and open it directly.

13

Common

Curtain-Form Blackbody Containment Lab. Bring the round ball to the port-like mechanism beside the sealed gate, then use the area’s gravity/lunar mechanic to position it correctly so the gate opens. The chest is just inside.

14

Common

Curtain-Form Blackbody Containment Lab. Inside the dark lower lab area, look for the chest beside a glowing blue symbol and blue beam. It is near a jellyfish-like creature and blue plant growth.

15

Common

Curtain-Form Blackbody Containment Lab. This chest is right by the lab entrance in the darker interior section. Look for it beside the glowing blue mechanism marker, yellow crescent-like devices, and tall pale plants near the wall.

16

Common

Curtain-Form Blackbody Containment Lab. Semi-hidden in the darker side room near the glowing tree-like plant. To open the gate, solve the puzzle in the other room and bring the ball down from the ceiling route to the nearby mechanism, then claim the chest inside.

Since the whole area is just made of small islands and strips of land, finding all of these chests shouldn’t be a huge problem, as most of them are just out there with nothing else surrounding them. The one “problematic” area I would say is the Curtain-Form Blackbody Containment Lab that has you do some weird puzzles.

Archaeolune Storm Research Center Chest Locations

Archaeolune Storm Research Center is a compact Frost Moon subarea, but the chest routes here are more puzzle-heavy than the size suggests. Instead of simple open-world pickups, expect indoor machinery, ball mechanisms, broken walls, lower rooms, and the local Archaeolune Storm hazard getting in the way if you stand in the wrong place for too long.

In total, the Archaeolune Storm Research Center includes:

  • 3 Exquisite Chests

The table below covers all regular Archaeolune Storm Research Center chests and how to unlock or find them.

#

Chest Type

How to Get

1

Exquisite

Inside the Research Center, on the right side of the entrance route. Use the explosive/mechanism puzzle to break a hole in the wall, then launch the ball out of the room with the nearby device. Move the ball into the hole to open the gate, go downstairs, and deal with the spherical mech enemies to unlock the chest. If the Archaeolune Storm keeps killing you, lure the ball/enemy toward the safer area across the gap before finishing the fight.

2

Exquisite

Deeper inside the Research Center ruins, in a lower stone chamber with broken floor slabs and blue mechanism markers nearby. The chest is locked beside a large spherical mech enemy, so defeat the mech to remove the seal and claim it.

3

Exquisite

Inside the Research Center, near the darker lower platforms and blue-lit machinery. Follow the path with the spherical mech enemy, then defeat it near the chest to unlock the reward. The screenshots place it close to the same ruin-floor route with pale stone platforms and glowing blue devices.

Archaeolune Storm Research Center is a pretty small area compared to others, but it is very easy to overcomplicate because all three chests involve the same visual language: blue devices, ruined platforms, and those spherical enemies rolling around like they pay rent. Clear the right-side entrance puzzle first, then check the lower chambers carefully before leaving the area. That’s how you do it.

Ungien's Circle Chest Locations

Compared to Moontide Sea or Archaeolune Storm Research Center, Ungien's Circle is much easier to misread on the interactive map. Many chest icons sit close together around the central machinery, while others are spread across the northern cliffs, western water path, eastern trail, underground quest areas, and southern platform. For this table, we’re starting from the northernmost chest, moving around and south along the circle, then finishing with the central-most chests.

In total, Ungien's Circle includes:

  • 11 Common Chests
  • 11 Exquisite Chests
  • 4 Precious Chests

The table below covers all known Ungien's Circle regular chests and how to unlock or find them.

#

Chest Type

How to Get

1

Exquisite

Northernmost chest in Ungien's Circle, located underground on L1. Look for a narrow ruined ledge with pale stone blocks, a small glowing device, and blue-green light in the background. The chest is tucked behind the rocks on the right side of the ledge, so check the broken wall area carefully instead of staying on the main path.

2

Common

Underground on B2, near the lift used during the “Visitors From the Stars” World Quest. Start from the nearby waypoint, go down the stairs, follow the quest route into the lower chamber, then check beside the lift and blue mechanism area. The chest is close to the elevator path and is easy to miss if you rush through the quest.

3

Exquisite

Underground on B2, along the same “Visitors From the Stars” quest route. If you missed it during the quest, start from the nearby waypoint, go down the stairs to the left, follow the lower path, and drop down near the space elevator route. The chest is in the lower chamber near the blue-lit floor path and lift area.

4

Exquisite

On the outer route of Ungien's Circle, near the stone walkway, yellow grass, and a blue glowing mechanism marker. Defeat the rolling spherical mech enemy near the chest to remove the seal and claim it. The enemy may roll down toward the path, so follow it if it moves away from the original marker.

5

Exquisite

On the western outer path of Ungien's Circle, near the yellow grass and low stone walkway. Defeat the Frostnight Scion enemy guarding the chest to unlock it. The chest sits in the open on the path, so the enemy is the main requirement here.

6

Precious

Underground on B4, along the deeper “Visitors From the Stars” route. Progress through the lower levels until you reach the lift/exit path, then use the moon power explosion mechanic to break open the wall. Throw or guide the ball through the new opening to activate the mechanism and reveal the Precious Chest. There is also an Oculus nearby, so check the same room before leaving.

7

Precious

Underground, during the main “Visitors From the Stars” quest route. Follow the blue-lit corridor and lift path through the deeper facility until the quest brings you to the chest location. The marker can be misleading from the surface, so don’t search aboveground - this chest appears inside the underground route.

8

Common

Underground on L1, near the L1 Exit/ship exit route. After leaving the ship, go straight along the blue-lit walkway and check the right side of the path near the railing and dark stone block. This Common Chest is close to the quest Precious Chest, so grab both before fully exiting the area.

9

Common

Underground on B1, near the B1 Exit route. Drop to the lower area under the bridge and look near the small creature house and blue-lit objects. The chest is beside two small creatures, behind the spot where you help them, and slightly tucked under the bridge structure.

10

Common

On the surface route near blue shrubs, yellow grass, and a rocky wall along the outer ring of Ungien's Circle. Defeat the slime guarding the locked chest to remove the seal.

11

Common

On the L1 exit route, sitting on a pale stone platform beside a large open chest-like container and a Giant Sweet Flower. The chest is in plain sight, so just follow the walkway and open it directly. Collect the Giant Sweet Flower next to it as well, since it gives an achievement.

12

Common

On the surface route toward the large tree, tucked among pale rocks and dense blue shrub-like plants. The chest is guarded by enemies near the suspicious flower spot, so defeat the nearby Whopperflower/slime encounter to unlock it.

13

Common

Inside a small cave or stone hut near the kuuhenki friends. Look behind the nearby Exquisite Chest / Time Trial area and check inside the small stone structure rather than only around the outside.

14

Common

On the surface near the cat group / “kitty book club” spot. This chest can be opened directly, so interact with it and check the area with the cats and the black kuuhenki nearby.

15

Common

Near the gator-like creatures in Ungien's Circle. The chest appears to be in the open and does not require a puzzle, so reach the spot and open it directly.

16

Common

Defeat the Geo Slimes, then push the black kuuhenki toward its friends. Use energy to break the blocks and move one ball toward the center mechanism. The chest appears under the pile of balls after the puzzle is finished.

17

Precious

Defeat the fungi enemies near the kuuhenki / small creatures during the quest route. After the enemies are cleared, the creatures are saved and the Precious Chest becomes available.

18

Exquisite

Approach the marked chest carefully, since a spherical mech enemy can drop or roll toward you once you get close. Defeat the enemy to remove the seal and claim the Exquisite Chest.

19

Exquisite

Another spherical mech combat chest in Ungien's Circle. Find the ball-like enemy near the marker and defeat it to unlock the chest.

20

Exquisite

Defeat the spherical ball monster guarding the chest. This is a straightforward combat chest, so clear the enemy and the Exquisite Chest will unlock.

21

Exquisite

Inside the building with laser hazards. Enter the structure, avoid the laser path, and reach the chest room. Some routes may also require defeating the robots inside or using moon power on the nearby ball/mechanism to open the way.

22

Precious

Gather the 4 inactive robot/UFO-like machines from the nearby circular huts and activate them with moon energy. Once they open the lower door, follow them inside and defeat the two spherical enemies to unlock the Precious Chest.

23

Common

In the same robot/UFO puzzle area as Chest #22. After collecting the robots and opening the lower route, check the side path or side door near the elevator area for the extra Common Chest.

24

Exquisite

Use moon energy or the nearby ball mechanic to break/open the transparent wall. Throw or guide the ball into the center/barrier mechanism, then pass through while the wall is open to reach the Exquisite Chest.

25

Exquisite

Defeat the rolling “evil pokeball” enemy near the marker. This is a separate spherical mech chest from the other ball encounters, so approach the marker, wait for the enemy to roll or drop into the area, then defeat it to unlock the Exquisite Chest.

26

Exquisite

Find the ball enemy near the marked chest and defeat it. This is another separate “kick the ball” / rolling mech encounter in Ungien’s Circle, so don’t merge it with the nearby ball drop chest even if the comments sound almost identical.

Frostnight Scion is a common enemy appearing all around the new map, along with slimes. Ungien's Circle is best cleared in layers instead of as one giant loop. Start with the northern and underground quest-route chests first, then move along the outer surface ring before cleaning up the central machinery and creature-puzzle areas. The biggest danger here is not combat, but confusing vertical markers with surface ones, especially around the B1-B4 quest areas and the central circular structures. Check lifts, bridges, small huts, and side rooms carefully before leaving, because several chests are close enough on the map to look like duplicates even when they are separate rewards.

The Eye of Ibni-Belum Chest Locations

The Eye of Ibni-Belum is a smaller Frost Moon subarea compared to Ungien's Circle, but the chest route here is very combat-heavy. Most of the regular chests are locked behind Frostlight Scion enemies, Geo Slimes, and the Precursor's Secret Source Matrix of Overseer Network, which is basically the “evil moon ball” everyone in the comments is tired of fighting.

In total, The Eye of Ibni-Belum includes:

  • 2 Common Chests
  • 10 Exquisite Chests

Since this guide focuses only on regular chest markers, other reward types like Mora chests, puzzle markers, and Oculus pickups are not included in the count above. The table below covers all known The Eye of Ibni-Belum regular chests and how to unlock or find them.

You may find that many players call Precursor's Secret Source Matrix of Overseer Network simply “balls” as they’re actually round-shaped. It’s much easier than remembering this unnecessarily long name.

#

Chest Type

How to Get

1

Exquisite

Fight the Frostlight Scion enemy near the marker, then interact with or enable the nearby blue box/mechanism after the fight. The chest unlocks once the enemy is cleared and the mechanism step is finished.

2

Common

Near a Lunoculus on a levitating platform above the area. Use the launcher/cannon mechanism near the nearby teleport waypoint, then activate the lift mechanisms to fly up toward the chest and Oculus. Some comments mention shooting or launching twice to reach the top.

3

Exquisite

Defeat the ball-like machine guarding the chest. This enemy is the Precursor's Secret Source Matrix of Overseer Network, so treat it as another direct combat chest.

4

Exquisite

In the open area near the waypoint, you’ll find a paired enemy encounter with a Frostlight Scion and a Precursor's Secret Source Matrix of Overseer Network. Defeat both enemies to unlock the first Exquisite Chest.

5

Exquisite

Same encounter as Chest #4. After defeating the Frostlight Scion and the ball-like Precursor Matrix machine, claim the second Exquisite Chest nearby before leaving the area.

6

Exquisite

Open or activate the nearby box/mechanism, then defeat the ball-like machine that appears from it. One comment mentions the mechanism may throw the enemy or reward nearby, so follow the spawned object instead of staying only at the starting box.

7

Exquisite

Defeat the ball-like machine near the marker to unlock the chest. This is another straightforward Precursor Matrix combat chest, so clear the enemy and claim the reward afterward.

8

Common

On a very high platform on the eastern side of The Eye of Ibni-Belum. Use the nearby launch pad/cannon mechanism to fly upward, grabbing the Lunoculus on the way if you have not collected it yet. Some players also reached it by gliding from the central high point, but the launcher route is cleaner.

9

Exquisite

Defeat the rolling ball machine near the marker. The enemy may move around the area, so chase it down if it rolls away, then collect the chest once the seal is removed.

10

Exquisite

Defeat the moon orb / “eyeball” machine near the marker. This enemy also drops plenty of Teardrops of the Moon, so clear it before moving on.

11

Exquisite

Defeat the robo-ball enemy near the marked spot, described by players as a “ball in a hole.” Once the machine is destroyed, the Exquisite Chest becomes available.

12

Exquisite

Approach or interact near the marked box/crate with the X symbol, then a large Geo Slime will appear. Defeat the Geo Slime to unlock the Exquisite Chest. One comment also mentions a Mora chest behind two boxes nearby, but that should not count toward the regular chest total.

For The Eye of Ibni-Belum, I’d say just use the map and go from one chest to another. Unlike most places, this one has chests that are actually quite spread out, so just work your way from one chest to another one by one. The puzzles are pretty simple - defeat that, beat this, the usual.

Nuur Stone Circle Chest Locations

Nuur Stone Circle is a tiny Frost Moon subarea with only two regular chests, but both are tied to the same gravity route, so it can be more annoying than the count suggests. The main thing here is that you need access to the inner meeting point / underground entrance first. After that, the route becomes a short chain: repair the device, reverse gravity, grab the first chest, then trigger the second one.

In total, Nuur Stone Circle includes:

  • 2 Common Chests

Since this guide focuses only on regular chest markers, quest progress, Oculus pickups, and other reward objects are not included in the count above. The table below covers both Nuur Stone Circle regular chests and how to unlock them.

#

Chest Type

How to Get

1

Common

Progress the local side quest until you unlock the entrance in the middle of Nuur Stone Circle. Enter the lower area, repair the device with the snake-style puzzle, then activate the gravity mechanism to reverse gravity and go upward. The Common Chest is found along this upper gravity route.

2

Common

After opening Chest #1, interact with the glowing ball next to it. This spawns the second Common Chest nearby. Unlocking the meeting point and gravity-reversal mechanic is required, so this chest may not appear if you come here too early.

Nuur Stone Circle is basically one small gravity puzzle pretending to be a full chest route. If the chests do not appear, continue the side quest until the middle entrance and meeting point are available, then return and activate the gravity mechanism. The two markers use the same route, so clear both before leaving instead of teleporting out after the first Common Chest.

Bubble Pool Chest Location

Bubble Pool looks much smaller than Ungien's Circle or The Eye of Ibni-Belum, but I’ll track it the same way: only regular chest markers go into the table, while pickups like Radiant Spincrystals or Oculus markers stay as route notes.

So far, Bubble Pool has:

  • 1 Exquisite Chest

#

Chest Type

How to Get

1

Exquisite

On the shallow water route in Bubble Pool, near the blue plants, pink grass, and small shoreline chest marker. Defeat the Frostlight Scion and the two small slime enemies beside it to unlock the Exquisite Chest. There is also an unmarked Radiant Spincrystal 186 a bit farther nearby, but it does not count toward the regular chest total.

Only one chest here.

North of Bubble Pool Chest Location

This small chest marker sits north of Bubble Pool, on an unnamed island-like ruin platform near the water. It is easy to miss because it does not belong to a clearly labeled subarea on the map.

#

Chest Type

How to Get

1

Common

North of Bubble Pool, on the small unnamed ruin platform near the water. Defeat the group of Cryo Slimes around the locked chest to remove the seal and claim it.

Dark Side of the Moon Chest Locations

Dark Side of the Moon is the final Frost Moon chest section, and almost everything here is locked behind quest progression. Most regular chests appear during the main quest or the “Moon Gazing” / “Project Moongazer” route, so this is not a normal surface sweep. If a marker looks impossible to reach, keep progressing the quest first.

In total, Dark Side of the Moon appears to include:

  • 6 Common Chests
  • 3 Exquisite Chests
  • 1 Precious Chest
  • 1 Luxurious Chest

That gives us 11 chest entries from the current notes.

#

Chest Type

How to Get

1

Luxurious

Progress the main quest until it brings you into Dark Side of the Moon. This Luxurious Chest is directly on the quest route and should be visible as you move through the area, basically just waiting there. Open it before continuing deeper.

2

Common

Main quest route chest in Dark Side of the Moon. This one is easy to miss despite being nearby, so slow down and check the side of the room/path instead of only following the quest marker.

3

Common

Main quest route chest found behind the main room. Go up the stairs behind the central chamber and check the upper route carefully. Several comments describe this as a “jackpot” spot, so there may be multiple rewards close together.

4

Common

Main quest route chest near an Oculus. Look around the Oculus room and nearby wall sections before leaving, since this Common Chest sits close enough to the pickup that it is easy to overlook.

5

Exquisite

Spawns during the quest after opening the door. Throw the ball into the door/mechanism as the quest teaches you, then continue through the doorway and claim the Exquisite Chest right after it appears.

6

Common

Main quest route chest between two large balls. Follow the quest path until you reach the room with the paired ball mechanisms, then check between them for the Common Chest before moving on.

7

Common

Underground on B1, near the B1/B2 exit route. After leaving the room where you quickly grab the Oculus, turn right and look behind the broken wall opposite the stairs. The chest is on the lower floor, close to another Common Chest marker in the same quest-route section.

8

Common

Underground on B1, inside the quest-route chamber with the large stairs and dark stone walls. Open the door behind the Oculus room, then check beside the glowing yellow mechanism near the stairs. The Common Chest is waiting next to the wall once the door is opened.

9

Exquisite

Underground on B1, along the main quest route through Dark Side of the Moon. Look for the chest beside a tall dark wall panel and a glowing floating Oculus-like pickup. There are also 2 Mora boxes nearby, but those do not count toward the regular chest total.

10

Precious

During the “Project Moongazer” / “Moon Gazing” world quest route in Dark Side of the Moon. Progress until you reach the deeper base corridor with the stone ramp and dark ruin walls. The Precious Chest is sitting near the path with no enemy fight or trap required.

11

Common

In the same deeper base corridor area as the nearby Project Moongazer Precious Chest. Interact with the blue moon-energy ball, throw or guide it next to the rock wall, then trigger the explosion to break the rocks and reveal the Common Chest.

Dark Side of the Moon is best cleared as you complete the quests that unlock access to this area. The first batch of chests comes from main quest progression, while the later Project Moongazer corridor has a tight cluster with a Common Chest, a Precious Chest, and an Exquisite Chest hidden behind rocks.
