Best Armor Sets in Windrose Quick Summary:

  • Windrose armor sets give 2-piece and 4-piece bonuses, but most full sets are weaker than hybrid combinations.
  • Conquistador’s Armor is the best tank option, mainly because of its strong damage reduction and Bulwark hyperarmor effect, though Bulwark can get you killed if you overcommit.
  • Flibustier’s Attire is the best melee-friendly set thanks to lower stamina drain on attacks and an increased one-handed weapon damage.
  • Marksman’s Rig has the best 2-piece bonus in the article, cutting stamina drain on sprinting and dodging by 30%, which makes it one of the strongest mix-and-match sets in the current patch.
  • Pikeman’s Armor is the go-to choice for Strength and two-handed weapon builds.
  • Tracker’s Leathers is the best support set because of its healing effectiveness bonus.
  • Privateer’s Regalia is mostly worth using for its 2-piece crit chance bonus, since its 4-piece crit damage effect is too risky for the reward.

Best Armor in Windrose

Windrose is just in early access, but it already has so much of what makes other games addictive. The RPG-like progression, weapons of different rarities, buildcrafting, and, of course, armor sets. There aren’t that many of them currently available in the game, but they have unique effects that can significantly boost your effectiveness. Today, we’ll go over all of them. The armor sets in Windrose have various effects, depending on how many pieces of it you wear:

  • 2 Set Pieces: Minor effects giving buffs to stats
  • 4 Set Pieces: Powerful effects that either buff the stats or add new abilities

Your character can wear up to 5 armor pieces, so that means you won’t be able to wear multiple full armor sets. That’s why you have to prioritize. Most armor sets are better combined with other sets to create hybrid builds, cause the majority of 4-piece bonuses aren’t that great. You also have three slots for accessories, but as of now, it is unknown if there are ring sets or such available in the game. For now, let me present a list of the best armor in Windrose:

Set

2 Piece Bonus

4 Piece Bonus

Conquistador’s Armor

+15% Damage Reduction

Bulwark

Flibustier’s Attire

-20% Stamina drain for attacks

+15% Damage to one-handed weapons

Marksman’s Rig

-30% Stamina drain for sprinting and dodging

+15% Damage to ranged weapons

Pikeman’s Armor

+15% Damage to two-handed weapons

+200 Max HP

Privateer’s Regalia

+10% Crit Chance

+10% Crit Damage for each enemy nearby (caps at 30%)

Tracker’s Leathers

+10% Damage Reduction

+45% Healing Effectiveness

The bonuses are not very creative, but there’s a chance we haven’t seen all the armor in the game so far. If there are more armor sets that will be discovered, we’ll add info on them shortly. The armor sets clearly distinguish between the tank, dps, and healer of the group. Let’s go over each armor set.

Conquistador’s Armor

Best armor for a tank in Windrose. The set bonuses are very good, and I’d say it’s the only 4-piece bonus that actually gives something new instead of just boosting your stats:

  • 2 Set Pieces: +15% Damage reduction. Very good bonus, even if you’re not the tank of the group, cause flat damage reduction from any source is very strong. You’ll appreciate it during boss fights.
  • 4 Set Pieces: Bulwark. This perk grants you hyperarmor. This means that your actions, whether attacks, healing, or object interaction, cannot be interrupted. While this might seem strong at first, you’ll quickly realize that it might play an evil joke on you. If you’re not careful, you’ll quickly end up with no health during your own attacks. Pair it with weapons that can interrupt your opponent’s moves.

The Conquistador set is classic heavy armor inspired by Spanish and Portuguese warriors. Though the 4-piece bonus is good, I recommend pairing it with other sets. The sets I advise you to pair it with are:

  • Pikeman’s Armor: Additional damage from two-handed weapons makes you play as more of a brawler than a full tank.
  • Tracker’s Leathers: Wearing two pieces of this set will grant you a total of 25% damage reduction, arguably making you more tanky than a full Conquistador set bonus.

Conquistador’s armor is great if you are willing to take blows from the enemies and if you have someone to heal you.

Flibustier’s Attire

This armor set is perfect to pair with any type of one-handed weapon. The reduced stamina drain is perfect for dodging your enemy’s attacks and dealing your own. While the full set bonus isn’t something mindblowing, I’d consider using it:

  • 2 Set Pieces: -20% Stamina drained on attacks. The best thing is that this set bonus doesn’t limit it to one-handed weapon attacks or ranged weapons, so it can be combined with any playstyle.
  • 4 Set Pieces: +15% Damage to one-handed weapons. A significant boost to your damage, even though it’s not something mind-blowing. With additional buffs, you can make it really strong, especially if you combine it with a hard-hitting one-handed weapon, like a Crusher mace that adds +10% Damage to pirates and outlaws.

This set is extremely good for any type of content, but I think it’s the best armor set for boarding in Windrose. If you’re planning to min-max, I suggest using the full set. If you’re willing to mix and match it with other set bonuses, then here are my recommendations:

  • Marksman’s Rig: Considering that in this game, you run out of stamina extremely fast, this might be the best set to combine Flibustier’s Attire with. You get -20% stamina consumption on your attacks and -30% on dodging and sprinting, making it much less stressful to control it.
  • Privateer’s Regalia: This set grants an additional 10% to crit. If you combine it with fast weapons like Razor saber or Sturdy Rapier, both of which give you additional crit strike chances, you deal insane damage very fast and waste very little stamina. If you want a glass cannon kind of build, where one wrong move ends in you dying, but as a trade-off, you deal huge damage, this hybrid set is for you.

Flibustier’s attire fully makes you feel like a nimble pirate evading death by a hair’s breadth. While the default set bonus is great, you can easily combine it with other sets to make it even stronger.

Marksman’s Rig

The best armor set to combine with ranged weapons in Windrose. But that’s only the case if you wear it fully, as only the 4-piece grants you an increase in ranged weapon damage. This armor set has, hands down, the best 2-piece bonus in the game. At least in the current patch. I guess the devs will lower the stamina drain on most actions, but for now, you should use it even if you don’t plan on making a gunner build:

  • 2 Set Pieces: -30% Stamina drain when sprinting and dodging. I already mentioned that stamina consumption in Windrose is a big problem, and that’s why it is heavily recommended to invest points in your Stamina stat early on. This armor set allows you to spend your stat points elsewhere or create a dodging machine.
  • 4 Set Pieces: +15% Damage to ranged weapons. While it is possible to build a gunner in Windrose, I don’t think this set bonus is that great. Yeah, the damage bonus is huge, and if you combine it with Blunderbuss, you’ll one-shot most enemies, but ranged weapons aren’t in a great place rn. Maybe in the future they’ll become stronger, but don’t go for this bonus now.

Marksman’s Rig is easily the best set to combine with others. Here are a few recommendations:

  • Pikeman’s Armor: Heavy weapons drain more stamina in exchange for higher damage and better stagger. You ran out of stamina when using them pretty quickly, which means you won’t be able to dodge. Landing your strikes becomes something that you have to do cautiously. With Marksman’s 2-piece bonus, you can forget about that. Land heavy strikes and then dodge out of the danger with no drawbacks. I like to use a greatsword with this hybrid set combo.
  • Flibustier’s Attire: I already described why it’s so good above, so if you have problems managing your stamina, comboing it with this set’s bonus is basically easy mode for the game.

Marksman’s Rig is one of the best early game sets to pursue, but even in the later parts of it, it’s still good and can get you out of trouble. While its 4-piece bonus isn’t something great, the 2-piece bonus is amazing.

Pikeman’s Armor

This set has one of the strongest 4 Set Pieces bonuses. At max level, you get an additional 200 HP, which is roughly equal to 9 points invested into Vitality. You die very fast in this game, so being able to take an extra hit or two is lush. The 2-piece is great as well and allows you to make strong two-handed weapon builds with it:

  • 2 Set Pieces: +15% to two-handed weapon damage. If you are maxing your Strength stat, this set is one of the best to wear, but if not, then this set loses its appeal quickly.
  • 4 Set Pieces: +200 HP. It’s unfortunate that to get this juicy bonus, you have to wear all 4 pieces, so it’s only ever useful for strength builds, but it’s a (better) alternative to Conquistador’s Armor to turn you into a tank.

This set can be combined with every other set presented above. I’ll shortly go over why it can work without going into much detail, but you can refer to the table above to see the set bonus if you missed it:

  • Conquistador’s Armor: Makes you a brawler less worried about missing a dodge.
  • Flibustier’s Attire: You spend less stamina on your attacks, which removes the drawback of using two-handed weapons.
  • Marksman’s Rig: Kind of the same effect as Flibustier’s Attire, but for dodging, so if you prefer to attack conservatively, combine Pikeman with this set.
  • Privateer’s Regalia: Probably the least relevant set to combine with Pikeman, but +10% Crit chance is a good boost to damage. If you are willing to sacrifice defensive capabilities, then go for it.
  • Tracker’s Leathers: I see no reason to use this set bonus with Pikeman if there’s already Conquistador’s armor, but if you didn’t get Conquistador’s set pieces, then go for it.

A good set that’s only useful for Strength builds, but it can be combined with most other sets to fit your playstyle better.

Privateer’s Regalia

Well, this set’s bonus is high risk but not that high a reward. The 2-piece bonus is good, especially combined with the right weapons, but the 4-piece bonus is something that sounds good on paper, but in reality, is more trouble:

  • 2 Set Pieces: +10% Crit chance. If you find a weapon with a decent crit chance bonus, this set is your go-to.
  • 4 Set Pieces: +10% Crit damage for each enemy nearby, capping at 30%. So the bonus damage caps at just three enemies, and three is a crowd. Heck, one is a crowd in this game, especially if it’s a more serious enemy or a boss. You don’t have to fight all three to proc this set’s bonus, though, but just 10% more crit damage isn’t all that great for a max bonus.

The two-piece bonus of this set is good, and here’s which armor sets you need to combine it with:

  • Pikeman’s Armor: Combine it with Swamp Creature’s Tooth for maximum AoE. Other good weapon options include Stalwart Greatsword and Executioner.
  • Flibustier’s Attire: The less stamina you waste on your attacks, the more you can attack, the higher the chance your crit will proc. Simple math.

This set isn’t bad, but it’s not that great. I only ever recommend using it for its 2-piece bonus, unless you find a way to increase your crit chance significantly with Executioner or a weapon similar to it.

Tracker’s Leathers

The best support set in Windrose. If you are willing to fill the boots of the party’s mom, then this set is for you. The 2-piece bonus makes me scratch my head because it doesn’t synergize with the 4-piece bonus in any way, but maybe the devs just wanted to make supporting less painful? Idk. Anyway, here are the set bonuses:

  • 2 Set Pieces: +10% Damage reduction. It just asks to be paired with Conquistador’s armor for ultimate damage soaking. But if you’re supporting, then you should go for a full 4-piece bonus.
  • 4 Set Pieces: +45% Healing effectiveness. It’s an overall healing effectiveness, not only for yourself but for the bandages and healing items you apply to your friends. If your friend needs patching up during a tough fight, no better set bonus than this.

This set doesn’t combine well with most other sets cause it doesn’t bring any synergy to the table, other than for Conquistador’s Armor. It’s -25% of damage dealt to you, and it’s just a set bonus without additional buffs coming from other sources. Not getting any offensive bonuses is a downside, but hey, you know what you’re going for when using this set.
