Windrose Best Builds Quick Summary:
- The weapon choice is the core of every build, and armor, accessories, and consumables act as support layers.
- The Precision build uses Rapier of a Thousand Cuts to apply bleed, then swaps to Sturdy Rapier for safer parry-heavy damage, with Reliable Pistol or Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol as the ranged option.
- Precision build’s armor set is Flibustier’s Attire (2) plus Privateer’s Regalia (2) for a fast, crit-focused playstyle.
- The Agility build revolves around Cutlass stacking Take Aim! before firing Dragon’s Breath or Infantry Musket, backed by Marksman’s Rig (4).
- For the Agility build, I recommend firing Dragon’s Breath after one full Cutlass combo and Infantry Musket after two full combos for optimal damage.

Top Builds for Windrose
Windrose is still in early access, but this doesn’t stop it from having a large variety of options for buildcrafting. I’ve recently covered the best weapons and armor sets for the game, and I will use some of the described gear in this guide. The two builds I’m going to write about are the Thousand Cuts Precision build and a Razor Crit build. Getting all the parts for the build can be quite tricky cause loot in Windrose is randomized, but there are no gear pieces that will be awfully hard to get. First, let me cover what the top builds for Windrose consist of:
- Weapon: Usually the cornerstone of the build. Even though the armor sets give various bonuses, it’s the weapons that have unique traits that dictate the way you’ll play.
- Armor: Armor sets allow us to boost our performance even further, though if you don’t have all the needed armor, it’s not the end of the world, and the build can work without it.
- Accessories: Usually offering stat boosts to increase your weapon’s damage.
- Consumables: Food and potions can boost our stats even further and increase our damage.
Having all parts of the build makes it highly efficient, though you don’t have to get all of them to make it work. The order of importance is the same as presented above. Once you get the weapon, you can start working towards making your best build in Windrose.
Best Precision Build for Windrose

If you’ve been playing the game enough, you already know about the Rapier of a Thousand Cuts. It’s been dubbed the strongest weapon in the game, though I disagree. It’s good to apply bleeding stacks, but after you do that, it’s almost always better to switch to another weapon. Still, this is the strongest build in the early game in Windrose, even if you only have this rapier.
Since rapiers require investment in Precision stat, it’s only natural to use pistols or muskets. For this build, though, I will go with pistols since we accentuate the speed over bursts of damage. Here’s what you need for the best early game build for Windrose:
- Weapons: Rapier of a Thousand Cuts + Sturdy Rapier
- Ranged Weapon: Reliable Pistol, then switch to Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol
- Armor: Flibustier’s Attire (2) + Privateer’s Regalia (2)
- Necklace: Necklace of Vitality/Endurance
- Ring: Spear Thrower’s Ring
- Consumables: Any food that has Precision, Endurance, or Vitality on it. Elixir of Cruelty for bosses.
And here’s how you should distribute your stats:
- Precision: 25
- Vitality: 10
- Endurance: 10
Playing this build is just larping as a mosquito. The mosquito that can parry. You apply bleed stacks with Thousand Cuts, then switch to Sturdy Rapier and parry your foe’s attacks, dealing damage until it’s time to reapply the bleed status on the target. Some people prefer using the Rapier of Devastation to go full glass-cannon, so if you are confident in your parrying/dodging skills, you can settle for it. Sturdy Rapier is a safer choice thanks to the increased parry window, plus its Epic option grants +20% crit chance.
You shoot your target in the face when they’re staggered to deal crit damage. Once you ascend your Drake’s Double-Barreled Pistol to purple and unlock a new effect that applies Vulnerability stacks on your target, you need to actually open with it, and your gameplay changes from landing headshots during the openings to using your pistol as a debuff to increase your rapier’s damage.
The armor sets here work really well as a tandem, since Flibustier’s lets you waste 20% less stamina on your attacks and Privateer’s grants +10% crit chance, which synergizes perfectly with an upgraded Sturdy Rapier. I suggest you prioritize getting Flibustier’s Attire first, as it works better in the early game.
The accessories are pretty self-explanatory. I suggest picking a defensive option for your necklace, as there’s enough damage already, plus you’ll be able to improve your defense further with food buffs. For your ring, there’s no better choice than the Spear Thrower’s ring, which increases all your pierce damage by 6%. The second ring choice is up to you. As for the consumables, they can fluctuate, and you can take whatever seems fit right now.

Best Talents for Precision Build in Windrose

Above is a full build progression you need to pursue to make this build absolutely bonkers. This build heavily relies on riposting and landing crits while your enemy is bleeding, so we’re going to work towards that.
In the early-to-mid game:
- Marathon Runner x3
- You Will Answer for This x3
- Outnumbered x3
By level 11, you should already have both set pieces from Flibustier and Privateer. At this point, reset your talent tree and start investing talents as shown in the image above in this sequence:
- Marathon Runner x3
- Surgical Cuts x3
- Perfect Counter x3
- Disciplined Fencer x1
- Deep Impact x2
The last 2 points can be used anywhere you like, but I prefer to use them in Deep Impact to further increase damage. This build plays around parrying, but by this point, you should be pretty good with it. If you’ve upgraded your Sturdy Rapier, you should get 51% of landing a crit with this build. I really enjoy this build cause it’s super strong, but at the same time isn’t an auto-win button, so it keeps the gameplay engaging.
Best Agility Build in Windrose

The second build of this article is centered around building the Take Aim! effect with Cutlass and then unleashing a powerful shot with Dragon’s Breath blunderbuss or Infantry Musket, depending on your preference. In my opinion, this set is one of the best endgame sets in Windrose. It’s pretty convenient cause you can switch between the two ranged weapons when you’re fighting bosses or when dealing with mobs without respeccing.
All weapons in this build center around the Agility stat, so you will have serious damage output cause you don’t need to max multiple stats. Here are the gear pieces you need for the best Agility build in Windrose:
- Weapon: Cutlass
- Ranged Weapons: Dragon’s Breath (Epic) + Infantry Musket (Epic)
- Armor: Marksman’s Rig (4)
- Necklace: Endurance
- Ring: Marksman’s ring or Spear Thrower’s ring
- Consumables: Any food that has Agility, Endurance, or Vitality on it. Elixir of Precision is the best elixir option.
The stat distribution is nothing surprising:
- Agility: 25
- Vitality: 10
- Endurance: 10
Cutlass is not our main damage source. It’s here for its effect. It applies 10% damage increase on your next shot. This effect stacks up to 9 times, so you can deal 90% extra damage with your one shot. You don’t have to stack the damage 9 times, though. Cutlass’s full combo is four strikes, so you can either attack after one or two full combos to be efficient with your damage output.
I highly recommend going with Dragon’s Breath as your ranged, though its effect works best only when this gun is ascended. Alternatively, you can take the Infantry Musket since it also scales from Agility. The main draw of this gun is that it doesn’t slow your movement when aiming, so it fits perfectly into the hit-and-run style of gameplay this build has. I advise shooting with Dragon’s Breath after one full Cutlass combo and with Infantry Musket after two full combos. The absolutely insane scaled damage you do with your ranged weapons after the buff makes this the best ranged build in Windrose.
Armor choice is pretty obvious here. You’re gonna be wasting a lot of your stamina to attack with Cutlass, and one of the ranged weapons, so less costly dodging is gonna be perfect, same as an additional 15% of ranged damage.
For rings, there’s not much difference between the two. The Marksman’s ring applies to your full ranged weapon damage, while Spear Thrower’s ring applies specifically to the piercing damage your weapon makes. From my testing, both rings improve your damage about the same, so either wear both rings or a ring and its improved version. For consumables, Elixir of Precision is just insane, as it boosts your ranged damage by 13%!
Best Talents for Agility Build in Windrose

This build leans into ranged damage, so our Cutlass doesn’t get any talent synergies, as can be seen. As always, we’re picking the Marathon Runner x3 cause it’s just too good. Then we need to decide between Deep Impact or Bull’s Eye:
- Deep Impact: Increases all Pierce Damage by 9% when fully leveled
- Bull’s Eye: Increases crit spot damage by 20% when fully leveled
Personally, I think that this build works best when you attack nonstop and land one devastating shot after another, so I prefer Deep Impact, as Bull’s Eye requires you to aim carefully, which can cost you damage if you miss. Ultimately, the choice is yours. Both talents work really well. Then we take Muzzle Reach x3, as we’ll always be circling our opponent, even with the Musket. Your next choice will be between Quick Hand and Firearm Training. We will only invest 2 points in these skills, so choose wisely:
- Quick Hand: Improves active reload speed by 17.5%
- Firearm Training: Increases Ranged Damage by 7.5%
I don’t mind the reload time on either Musket or Blunderbuss, so I take Firearm Training to increase the single-shot damage, but if you find the reload annoying, take the Quick Hand talent. Finally, we have the Deadly Hunter x1. No need to max it out, since 15% procs more often than you’d think. It’s the only high-level perk that fits into this build.
