Windrose is a new open-world soulslike survival coop game. Yeah, that’s a lot of buzzwords. But it looks like it can be the next big thing, and that’s why I’ve made a decision to write a Windrose best weapons tier list. Today, we’ll go over weapon types and which are the best.

Windrose Weapons List

Windrose, in its core, is a soulslike game, which I think is a little unexpected in the survival genre. Usually, in soulslike games, you have specific, named weapons that play completely differently from one another, even when they belong to the same archetype. Well, in Windrose, there are uniquely named weapons, but the way you play them doesn’t actually differ that much. Sure, they have various effects, but it mostly comes to a skill damage percentage increase and very rarely to something that changes the playstyle. Hence, why I’m ranking the weapons based on their archetype and not each named weapon separately. Here’s what comes into account when creating a Windrose weapon tier list:

  • Adaptability: How well the weapon fits various combat situations.
  • Stamina Consumption: Stamina management is incredibly important in this game.
  • Speed of Attack: Slow weapons are very bad in Windrose, and you’ll be dying a lot more.

As in other soulslike games, Windrose’s weapons have a stat scaling system. The scaling system goes from S to D. The higher your stat, the better the scaling on the weapon, the more damage it does, simple as that. Below is a list of all Windrose weapon types and what they scale from:

  • Strength: Clubs. Maces, Halberds
  • Agility: Sabers, Greatswords, Blunderbusses
  • Precision: Rapiers, Pistols, Muskets

If you played any of the soulslikes, you know that any weapon is viable in the game and you can beat the game with it, no problem, unless it’s a bad meme weapon on purpose. It’s mostly the case in Windrose, but I do not recommend using Strength-based weapons cause their attack frames are higher than Agility or Precision ones. Windrose fully revolves around stamina management, and enemies here hit like a truck, so you want to attack an enemy fast and then disengage just as quickly, and Strength weapons just don’t give you that. If you want a fast answer, go with Agility weapons. If you want a more detailed answer, then you should check out the full list below.

Mandatory disclaimer: This tier list is completely subjective and based on my experience when playing the game. There’s a high chance that the devs will patch the way weapons play in the day one patch or even the first week patch. Still, I’m pretty happy with this Windrose best weapons tier list:

Each of these weapons is supposed to be used in specific situations and be better in some tasks than the others, but in reality, Saber is just too good against crowds of opponents, and that’s what you’ll face most of the time when playing Windrose. The more enemies you may hit in one swipe while wasting minimal stamina, the better. Now, let’s dive into each weapon and break down why they are so good.

Saber - S-Tier

Saber takes first place as the best weapon in Windrose because it can attack multiple enemies. If you’re playing solo or even in a duo with your friend, you’ll definitely appreciate this. The thing is, you often get attacked by more enemies than you can handle at once, and enemies in Windrose hit like a truck, so being able to strike a few of them at once without being hit is really important. Most sabers scale from Agility, although there’s an Arboris Saber that scales from Strength stat. Sabers don’t spend a lot of stamina per attack and allow you to fit at least two of them before you have to dodge.

Blunderbuss - S-Tier

The only firearm to be placed in the S-Tier. While it’s incredibly inaccurate, it’s not actually made to be shot at range. You should use it close to the enemy, mere feet away from them. It’s a grandpa of a shotgun, so approach it as such. The best thing is that it does huge damage to a single target, or even to multiple targets if you’re lucky enough. This might not be a weapon for everyone, but I highly recommend learning to use it as it’s a boss killer.

Rapier - S-Tier

Rapiers are fast and good for a single target damage, thus requiring a bit of mastery to use. They compensate for it with high attack speed. While all rapiers are good, I highly recommend getting a Rapier of a Thousand Cuts as soon as possible. It has a unique bleeding effect that stacks up to 5 times, making enemies bleed 40 HP per one stack. Considering how easy it is to attack enemies in a sequence, this rapier deals a crazy amount of damage. But even if you don’t have this specific rapier, the archetype is quite strong, and I liked using it against thicker enemies with large HP bars.

Greatsword - A-Tier

Another Slash damage weapon. If you’re looking for the best boarding weapon in Windrose, look no further than the greatsword. It plows through crowds of enemies without leaving you with an empty stamina bar. I named it the best boarding weapon because you get surrounded by enemies fast when boarding their ship, and the greatsword clears the path for the rest of your crew to plunder the enemy. It’s not as slow as a halberd, though it doesn’t have its reach either. Still, halberd’s reach is overkill, and greatsword is just perfect.

Pistol - A-Tier

A pistol is great for interrupting the enemy’s attacks. It’s also great to pick out the enemies one by one, so naturally it works great with a rapier. I don’t feel like a pistol is a full weapon, but rather a secondary in this game. I didn’t use it much, but from what I used it, it’s a much better weapon than, say, a musket.

Halberd - A-Tier

A halberd is used very similarly to a greatsword, but it has greater reach, and it scales from Strength. The only weapon that uses this stat that I can find a reason to use. It allows you to keep enemies at much larger distances. One thing I like about halberds is that you can attack enemies three times instead of just two. You attack them two times as usual, then backdash and attack them again as they start moving toward you. Just watch your stamina. Halberds also have the best strength scaling out of all strength weapons.

Club - B-Tier

Club is kinda awkward. I don’t like its moveset. It’s super slow, and it feels bad to use it. Especially considering you have to max strength for it. It’s unfortunate that strength is such a bad stat right now, but maybe that’ll be fixed in the future. I didn’t find any of the worthy clubs, which is kinda strange, so I have no clubs to even recommend using in the game right now.

Mace - B-Tier

Mace is super slow, but does a lot of damage. I think if the devs buff the strength-based weapons, this weapon might become S-Tier easily. The main problem with mace that I’ve discovered is that it’s supposed to be the one-shot weapon, but you never have enough damage to pull that off. So it results in you hitting an enemy, and while you recover from the animation, it’s already time to dip, so it drops in effective DPS significantly. Something nimbler, like a rapier, does more damage, though the tradeoff should be in damage vs speed, but it just doesn’t work here. I liked using maces, and the Crusher mace Epic variant has probably some of the best perks on it.

Musket - C-Tier

I genuinely couldn’t make myself use the musket in this game. The reload takes ages, the damage is big, but it’s not worth it. You can use it to take out enemies one by one, but the enemies usually notice you immediately, which kills the usefulness of this weapon. I think that Reliable Musket is just a little better than any other musket and can be placed in B-Tier, but it’s still a very bad weapon archetype. I hope the devs buff it, cause right now it’s just a throwaway choice.
