TBC Classic Anniversary Alchemy Leveling

Okay, now that I got your attention, let me explain how you actually start becoming an Alchemist. Go to Orgrimmar or Stormwind and talk to the guard. Ask them to show you directions to the nearest Alchemy trainer, and they’ll point those on your map. After you’ve learned Alchemy from a trainer, you can start working your way to reach level 300. Let’s take a look at a full table for TBC Classic Anniversary Alchemy leveling:

Levels

Recipe

Materials

Explanation

1-60

Minor Healing Potion

Silverleaf x1, Peacebloom x1.

Crafting Minor Healing Potions remains efficient until level 60 and turns yellow at 55. Train Journeyman Alchemy at level 50.

60-105

Lesser Healing Potion

Minor Healing Potion x1, Briarthorn x1.

The recipe turns yellow at 85 and green at 105.

105-110

Elixir of Wisdom

Briarthorn x2, Mageroyal x1.

This is a short leveling window to bridge into the next tier. Create 5 Elixirs.

110-150

Healing Potion

Briarthorn x1, Bruiseweed x1.

The recipe turns yellow at 135. After reaching 150, return to a trainer to learn Expert Alchemy.

150-155

Strong Troll’s Blood Potion

Briarthorn x2, Bruiseweed x2.

Same as with Elixir of Wisdom, we’re using this recipe as a filler step.

155-195

Greater Healing Potion

Kingsblood x1, Liferoot x1.

The recipe turns yellow at 175, but does not turn green until 195. This recipe alone can carry Alchemy through this entire range.

195-235

Elixir of Greater Defense

Wild Steelbloom x1, Goldthorn x1.

The recipe turns yellow at 215 and remains viable until 235. At level 225, stop briefly to train Artisan Alchemy, then continue crafting.

235-265

Elixir of Detect Undead

Arthas’ Tears x1

The recipe stays efficient until 265.

265-290

Superior Mana Potion

Sungrass x1, Blindweed x1.

The recipe turns yellow at 275 and green at 295, but I typically use it until 290.

290-300

Major Healing Potion

Golden Sansam x2, Mountain Silversage x1.

These herbs are reused later in Outland recipes, so I listed more of them on the shopping list.

At this point, you are now able to push Alchemy 300-375 in TBC Classic Anniversary. For starters, you’ll need to find an NPC named Magnus Frostwake at Caer Darrow in Western Plaguelands. This NPC sells a Recipe: Major Mana Potion. While you can get it from the Scholomance dungeon, it’ll be faster this way. This is your first step toward becoming a Master Alchemist. Now go through the Dark Portal and travel to your faction’s Alchemy Trainer. Talk to them, and they’ll train you. Now, let’s continue with our explanation of how to level Alchemy fast TBC Anniversary:

Levels

Recipe

Materials

Explanation

300-305

Major Mana Potion

Dreamfoil x3, Icecap x2.

Turns yellow at 310, but I consider the next recipe to be more efficient.

305-315

Elixir of Major Strength

Mountain Silversage x1, Felweed x1.

You can use Classic herbs here to efficiently raise your level.

315-330

Volatile Healing Potion

Golden Sansam x1, Felweed x1.

The recipe turns green at 322 and gray at 330, but remains usable through this range.

330-340

Super Healing Potion

Netherbloom x2, Felweed x1.

Recipe turns yellow at 340, so that’s where we push it.

340-362

Super Mana Potion

Dreaming Glory x2, Felweed x1.

Before crafting anything, buy a recipe from Haalrun for Alliance, or Daga Ramba for Horde.

362-375

Major Dreamless Sleep Potion

Dreaming Glory x1, Nightmare Vine x1.

Most recipes turn green between 362 and 365, but this recipe is an exception. You can buy it from the previously mentioned vendors.

And that’s the best way to level TBC Alchemy. If you are already at level 300, you’ll have an even easier time leveling your profession. An important point to mention is that Alchemy is one of a couple of other professions that allow you to have specializations. That’s precisely what I’ll cover in the next chapter.

Alchemy Specializations TBC Classic Anniversary

Learning a specialization has a couple of prerequisites. First, you need to have level 325 in Alchemy, and your char needs to be lvl 68. Specializations also require you to go through a quest, which usually requires you to deliver certain crafted items. For the most part, they aren’t too challenging, but they can be a slog. Specifically, the Transmutation Mastery. I’ll explain how you can get each individual mastery the honest way, and then explain how you can trick the game and avoid tedious grind. There are three Alchemy specializations in TBC Classic Anniversary:

  • Master of Potions: Gives a chance to craft an extra potion. Potions are useful for every piece of content.
  • Master of Elixirs: Elixirs are very valued in raids or high difficulty dungeons, as well as world bosses.
  • Master of Transmutation: This mastery allows you to create multiple Primal materials or Primal Might from a single cooldown, which makes it the best option for passive gold income.

I see that you’re eyeing that Master of Transmutation. Well, let’s go step by step as I explain how to get each mastery.

Master of Potions

This is the easiest mastery to get. Remember that I’ve told you to buy recipes for Super Mana Potion and Major Dreamless Sleep Potion? They’ll be very handy when doing this quest. Here are the steps required to get this specialization.

  1. Go to Zangamarsh: Find an NPC named Lauranna Thar’well and start her quest.
  2. List of Items for Lauranna: The potions you need are Super Healing Potion x5, Super Mana Potion x5, and Major Dreamless Sleep Potion x5. You also need to deliver Botanist’s Field Guide x1.
  3. Getting the Field Guide: Head into the Botanica dungeon and kill the 2nd Boss. Loot the field guide from them.
  4. Return to Zangamarsh: Deliver all the items that Laranna requires from you.

Now this is the most difficul… No, I’m just kidding. That’s it, that’s how you get the potion mastery. Simple, wasn’t it? One important thing to note is that you can talk to Laranna again and tell her that you want to unlearn Alchemy. You can do that for 150 gold. This will be useful later. BLOG20

Master of Elixirs

Head to Master Alchemy Trainer, Lorokeem, to receive a quest. This quest is similar in its structure to the Master of Potions questline. You’ll need to deliver 3 types of Elixir, 5 of each, and also deliver dungeon loot. Here’s a list of everything you need to bring him:

Recipe: Elixir of Major Agility can only be bought after reaching Honored rep with Honor Hold for Alliance, or Thrallmar for Horde. Recipe: Elixir of Major Defense is purchased from already familiar Haalrun or Daga Ramba. Elixir of Mastery is available as soon as you hit 315 in your Alchemy level. The main difficulty here comes not from the Elixirs, but from Essence of Infinity, as you need to complete a questline and finish two dungeons in order to get this item:

  1. Go to Caverns of Time in Tenerys: Enter the dungeon and talk to the Steward of Time. It’s a dragon. He’ll give you a quest. Follow the quest until it tells you to go to Old Hillsbrad Foothills.
  2. Finish the Old Hillsbrad Foothills: Once you finish the dungeon, you’ll be sent to Black Morass, which is another dungeon.
  3. Fight through Black Morass: The Rift Lords are the mobs that you need to kill, as they drop the Essence of Infinity. Gather 10 of these.
  4. Return to Lorokeem: Now you can return to the quest giver and finally hand in all of the items.

Not something exceptionally difficult, but it’s more time-consuming nonetheless. Overall, you probably won’t have any problems finishing this quest. Finally, let’s talk about Master of Transmutation.

Master of Transmutation

The main problem with this specialization lies in the fact that you need four days to have it. If others can be done in a couple of hours tops, this one isn’t. Head to Stormspire and find Zarevhi. Talk to him, and he’ll give you a quest. Though there’s no need to go into any dungeons in this questline, you’ll be tasked with bringing this NPC 4 Primal Mights. Yeah, you already see where this is going. Crafting Primal Might sets a 20-hour cooldown. Not only that, but it also requires different Primals:

  • Buy a Recipe for Primal Might: Head to Shattrath and find Skreah. Buy a Recipe: Transmute Primal Might.
  • Craft a Primal Might: You need one of each of the following materials - Primal Earth, Primal Water, Primal Air, Primal Fire, and Primal Mana. You can farm them anywhere around the Outland, but it’s easier to just buy them.
  • Another Way: You can also just buy Primal Might. If you’re a rich millionaire, that is. It’s very expensive on the Auction House, so unless you already have tons of gold, don’t do that.

There is a different way. Remember that I mentioned that you could use 150 gold to unlearn the specialization? Well, after doing so, you can go to any of the mastery quest givers and tell them that you want to become a master in their sphere, without having to beat their quests. Basically, you can finish the Master of Potions questline and then switch between these three masteries for gold. It saves a lot of time, especially with the Transmutation spec.

Best Race for Alchemy TBC Classic Anniversary

Alchemy doesn’t really require you to min-max when choosing the race if you want to master it. However, one race prevails in their understanding of this profession and provides special bonuses that can help with the secondary prof you might consider mastering as well. If you’re a long-time player, then you already know the answer. The best race for alchemy in TBC Classic Anniversary is Tauren.

Taurens are the only race with a bonus that works well with Alchemy, though not directly. They have a Cultivation skill, which gives a +15 bonus to Herbalism. Considering Herbalism is often paired with Alchemy, you might consider them. If you want to create a specifically Alchemist character, then look no further.

Some classes that can be useful for Alchemy are:

  • Druids: They can gather herbs in their Flight Form, which makes them safer to gather for that Alchemy/Herbalism combo.
  • Rogues: Can be decent for Herbalism, as they can stealthily snoop around even in high-level areas. This helps you prepare all the herbs on the shopping list, especially if you don’t have the money for it.
