Do this on Your Main Before Leveling Alts

If you want to level up alts in Midnight fast, you have to do some preparations on your main. There are a few steps that, if you take them, will ensure not only fast leveling of your alts to level 90 but also fast gearing for them as well.

Step 1. Finish the Campaign

This should already be done on your main if you’re level 90, but this allows your alts to skip the campaign entirely, and this is good because it gives you access to those fast leveling methods in alts I’ll cover later.

Another thing that it gives you is Renown 2 for all factions in Midnight. Why is this important? This is when you can buy 4 pieces of 180 ilvl gear, which will help you level up your alts. If you want to know more about how leveling works, check out my Midnight leveling guide.

Step 2. Complete all Sojourner Achievements in Midnight

If you complete all side quests in every zone in Midnight, it will unlock the Sojourner achievement for that zone. There are four of them in total:

This will make the renown farming for alts way faster, especially if you plan to level up multiple alts. And high renown (8, 9) unlocks access to Champion track gear.

Step 3. Get your main to level 90

By the time you finish the Midnight campaign, you’ll be around level 87, and you might feel the urge to do this on your alt already, but don’t rush.

  • Having 1 level 90 char = 5% bonus XP
  • Having 2 level 90 chars = 10%
  • Having 3 level 90 chars = 15%
  • Having 4 level 90 chars = 20%
  • Having 5 level 90 chars = 25%

This is called Warband Mentored Leveling, and it's a buff that works in Midnight as well. This buff will also stack with other XP buffs.

How to Level Up Alts Fast in Midnight

If you want to get your alt characters fast, provided that you’ve done the steps above, here’s what you need to do.

Step 1. Buy Renown 2 180 ilvl gear

Provided that you finished the Midnight campaign on your main, you should have Renown 2 on the following factions:

  • Silvermoon Court Quartermaster - /way #2395 43.4 47.4 Caeris Fairdawn
  • Amani Tribe Quartermaster - /way #2437 45.8 65.8 Magovu
  • Hara’thi Quartermaster - /way #2413 51.0 50.8 Naynar
  • The Singularity Quartermaster - /way #2405 52.6 72.8 Void Researcher Anomander

Each one will have 1 piece of gear with an ilvl 180 on it. So, that’s 4 slots per alt. Getting these will give you a huge boost when leveling up. Note that you can buy these on level 81.

Step 2. Do all Delves once. Don’t Turn In the Quests

Next, you go around all four locations and do every delve in there once. At level 80-81, you’ll be able to just pull the entire dungeon and AoE it down. This is best done on tank or healer specs, and every class has one of those specs.

You can farm these delves until you reach level 87. Any delve will do, but a lot of players report that Shadowguard Point, which is located in the Voidstorm, is the best. You don’t have to complete the entire Delve, just the first pack, because, depending on the version, the latter parts actually slow you down and aren’t worth it.

The general tactic is this:

  1. Set the Delve to Tier 1 (or 2 for slightly higher XP gain)
  2. Enter solo - doing it with a group actually splits XP between party members
  3. Pull the first pack if you’re low-level or entire delve.
  4. AoE everything down.
  5. Exit the delve and reset.

As a tank, you can farm this delve specifically till you hit level 85-86. A DPS can do this until level 83-84, depending on what gear you have. If you have a full Mythic gear set, it’s going to be easier.

This Delve will yield between 800k and 1000k XP per hour, which is why players called it the fastest raw XP leveling early on. But it had some nerfs. Now, the devs replaced some mobs that gave more XP, and you’ll be getting less XP overall. On top of that, your XP gain will depend on the rotation, which changes daily.

An alternative delve for leveling is Grudge Pit. The strategy is very similar:

  1. Set the Delve to Tier 1 (or 2 for slightly higher XP gain)
  2. Enter solo - doing it with a group actually splits XP between party members
  3. Pull the entire first wave only.
  4. Kill everything.
  5. Kill the guaranteed rare.
  6. Do NOT finish later stages if slow.
  7. Exit the delve and rest.

The entire delve is this one huge pit with mobs in it, so you can just aggro them all. In terms of XP numbers: ~700k - 1,000k per hour if you do everything quickly. At level 83, you can gain a level in 40 minutes. But the daily delve modifiers matter. The best ones allow you to use a mount inside the delve.

Step 3. Getting From LvL 87-90: Turn in Delve Quests + Profession First Crafts

The last stretch of alts leveling starts once you farm at least level 86-87. At this point hte first thing you do is turn in the Delve quests, which give you a sizeable XP chunk for the first completion. You do this now and not when you actually finish the delves because the XP reward scales with level. So, each delve quest will reward you roughly 85k-90k XP. If you turn them all in back-to-back, that alone will give you a full level. I even heard some players saying they got 120-130% of a level.

The next thing to do to get to level 90 is to do the first craft for every profession. Every first craft gives you an immense amount of XP. Since you can learn only 2 professions at a time, go through the first pair like Leatherworking and Blacksmithing, buy the resources, do the first craft, get the reward, and unlearn them. Then repeat for the next pair. Doing this will likely cost you around 20-30k gold per alt, but it will give you around 60k experience, which is around 1 level.

Additional Leveling XP and Renown Farming

If you’re still lacking some XP, you can increase it in a number of ways.

  • Activate War Mode - increases quest rewards and experience by 25% at the risk of being ganked by players from another faction.
  • Darkmoon Faire buff - additional 10% experience buff for 1 hour that stacks with other buffs.

As annoying as it might be to refresh the Darkmoon Faire buff every hour when you stack it with others to do delve runs or the first crafts, it's going to matter a lot. The entire leveling from 80 to 90 will take you around 4 hours. After that, you can start focusing more on reputation farming and increasing renown.

As mentioned before, Renown levels 7-9 unlock Champion track 246 ilvl gear. That’s why I said you need to do those Sojourner achievements on your main. And how do you get more reputation? Do the following:

  • Side quests: all of them give you reputation for the faction of the zone
  • World quests also give you a lot of reputation
  • Opening treasures: 50-250 reputation per chest
  • Rare kills: 50 reputation per rare kill

Right now, M0 drops Veteran track gear, which is a tier lower than Champion, but since you can only get a limited amount of Champion gear from faction quartermasters, farming dungeons for that veteran gear to fill out the rest of the slots isn’t a bad idea. The rest of the Champion track gear will become available on March 17 when Season 1 hits.

Addons for Leveling Alts

There are addons that will help you level up your alts and your main. You don’t need to have all of them; just use the ones that help you with whatever you’re doing right now. For instance:

  • RestedXP - it's the best leveling addon for Midnight because it literally shows you what to do next step-by-step, taking you through the shortest path to max level. The only downside is that it's not free.
  • BTWQuests - a free alternative that lets you preview the entire quest chain, including the past, current, and future quests in the quest chain. It will help you track your progress and make sure you’re not skipping quest XP and reputation rewards.
  • RareSCanner - lets you know if there’s a rare monster nearby, very useful for farming reputation.
  • HandyNotes - this will help you track all the treasure chests on the map and save you the time looking for them.

Lastly, if you’re farming the delves, you might want to use a macro that will help you leave the instance quickly by the press of a button: /script C_PartyInfo.LeaveParty()
