PvP Tier List for Midnight - All Specs

This table you see represents my overall vibe across what’s going on with the PvP meta in Season 1 now. It’s based on all the modes I’ve tested, namely Solo Shuffle, Arenas, and Battleground Blitz. Yeah, you see no RBG here because it’s basically dead, and no one plays it seriously. Check out a complete Midnight PvP tier list for all specs and how they fit the meta now:

Tier

Specs

S

Unholy Death Knight, Fire Mage, Subtlety Rogue, Shadow Priest, Mistweaver Monk

A

Devastation Evoker, Arcane Mage, Demonology Warlock, Retribution Paladin, Windwalker Monk, Feral Druid, Survival Hunter, Marksmanship Hunter, Frost Mage, Balance Druid, Destruction Warlock, Discipline Priest, Holy Paladin, Holy Priest, Protection Paladin, Guardian Druid

B

Elemental Shaman, Devourer Demon Hunter, Beast Mastery Hunter, Assassination Rogue, Outlaw Rogue, Enhancement Shaman, Fury Warrior, Frost Death Knight, Preservation Evoker, Blood Death Knight, Brewmaster Monk, Protection Warrior

C

Havoc Demon Hunter, Restoration Druid, Vengeance Demon Hunter

D

Affliction Warlock, Arms Warrior, Augmentation Evoker, Restoration Shaman

I’m not going to get into details about each specialization, and you might disagree with the placement as well. But that’s what I’ve seen so far, and a bunch of dry statistics on top of that. I also must say that you can carry in PvP with whatever class or spec you’re playing. It’s just a matter of how well you’ve mastered it and know the specifics of each PvP mode.

Best PvP Classes in Midnight

Only five specializations deserve to be rated as S-Tier in my opinion. But those placed in A-Tier remain strong options, especially if you know how to play it properly. The team comp also matters in Blitz for sure. So far, these are the best PvP classes in WoW Midnight for Season 1:

  • Unholy Death Knight
  • Fire Mage
  • Subtlety Rogue
  • Shadow Priest
  • Mistweaver Monk

You’ll obviously see no Tanks in this list because no one really plays this role to hit the highest rating. It mostly consists of DPS specs and one Healer to balance it all out. My personal favorite here is Fire Mage, but I also see a ton of people going for Unholy DK in PvP, too.

PvP DPS Rankings in Midnight

DPS specs shape the meta of Midnight PvP, and here you’ve got a truly wide choice of what to pick. As I’ve told you already, I’m primarily running Fire Mage, but going to MM Hunter can be a good option if I have the mood for it. This tier list you see here is based on what damage a spec can do, its burst windows, and even a bit of survivability, because that’s what is important in certain modes. Check out the full PvP DPS rankings for Midnight Season 1:

Tier

Specs

S

Unholy Death Knight, Fire Mage, Subtlety Rogue, Shadow Priest

A

Devastation Evoker, Arcane Mage, Demonology Warlock, Retribution Paladin, Windwalker Monk, Feral Druid, Survival Hunter, Marksmanship Hunter, Frost Mage, Balance Druid, Destruction Warlock

B

Elemental Shaman, Devourer Demon Hunter, Beast Mastery Hunter, Assassination Rogue, Outlaw Rogue, Enhancement Shaman, Fury Warrior, Frost Death Knight

C

Havoc Demon Hunter

D

Affliction Warlock, Arms Warrior, Augmentation Evoker

S-Tier specs you see here are literally broken in the current meta. But I’m not encouraging you to play any of those if you don’t like the class or spec. Those options you see in A-Tier are more than playable, and they can do even better in certain comps or modes. Everything else that goes below this point should be avoided if you want to stay competitive in WoW PvP and steadily progress through rating numbers.

Unholy Death Knight

Unholy Death Knight is by far the best PvP class in WoW if you’re looking for the balance between damage and survivability. You won’t die in a second like Subtlety Rogue if your rotation goes wrong or you get caught, and you still can do tons of damage. Your core buttons like Army of the Dead play a big role here, and your Soul Reaper is a great tool to finish off low-HP targets.

The only problem you can face is Paladins with their Cleanse the Weak PvP talent. It counters you hard, because it will trigger the cleanse effect when a target is healed with Flash of Light or Holy Light. Even with that, you stay super scary and keep the pressure going. After all, you’re not going to meet a Paladin in every game of yours.

Fire Mage

Fire Mage is no doubt the strongest DPS for PvP in Midnight in the ranged category. The Combustion window is the only reason enough to put this spec in S-Tier in this PvP meta. You’ve got remarkable damage when you press this button. Your gameplay is basically a combination of kiting and living for the next Combustion to be up.

That’s what makes Fire Mage so safe, as you’ve got the biggest and cleanest one-shot style option. You’ve also got tools to slit away and reset fights. The spec pairs insanely well with Subtlety Rogue, which is also in S-Tier in my rankings here.

Subtlety Rogue

Subtlety Rogue is also at the highest position of the current PvP rankings in Midnight due to one change only. I’m talking about the DR change that basically turned it into a stun machine. Every 16 seconds, you can fully stun someone. And with Symbols of Death fused into Shadow Dance, you’re dancing or vanishing on that same rhythm.

You can choose who gets deleted on repeat, and combining that with Fire Mage… Yeah, you know what I’m talking about here. Add the reset tools and how it’s to punish a good Rogue, and you’ll see why it’s in the meta now.

PvP Healer Rankings in Midnight

The situation with Healer in WoW PvP basically looks like this: you’re going to fail if your Healer can only heal. This is the reason I've put specs like Restoration Druid and Restoration Shaman closer to the bottom of the list. Your Healer also needs to push pressure and be everywhere when the battle starts. See complete PvP Healer rankings for Midnight Season 1:

Tier

Specs

S

Mistweaver Monk

A

Discipline Priest, Holy Paladin, Holy Priest

B

Preservation Evoker

C

Restoration Druid

D

Restoration Shaman

Speaking of the pressure, the only spec that can actually do that is placed in S-Tier. Others that go to A-Tier are also quite powerful and do a lot of stuff apart from just healing. You’ll see that in practice on a higher rating, but if you’re just playing for fun, you can go for any spec from the list. You’ll still be super useful, you’re a Healer after all.

Mistweaver Monk

Mistweaver Monk is the best Healer for PvP in Midnight now because of Ancient Teachings and how much healing and damage it does at the same time. They nerfed Renewing Mist, which honestly was needed, but the damage buffs and the way the math works now just make MW more than compensate anyway.

You have an all-purpose Healer that can also create strong pressure, something like mid-tier DPS specs, I would say. You can try to counter MW with stuns and disrupt them, but that’s not going matter too much if the spec is played right.

Discipline Priest

Discipline Priest is also a strong Healer for the current PvP meta in WoW due to the damage buffs, but you still need to hit the sequence for the spec’s full potential. And if you mess it up, your throughput feels worse than it should.

It usually goes like this: Penance before Power Word: Shield, and then Power Word: Radiance before Penance. That’s the flow you’re going to be dealing with a lot, and you need to get it right. Plus, constant target swapping to keep Atonement value rolling while you do damage.

Holy Paladin

Holy Paladin is A-Tier because it combines damage and control like no other healing specs in this WoW Retail PvP tier list, with the only exception being Mistweaver Monk. Hammer of Wrath hitting for huge chunks, makes your pressure scary, and the stun into blind chain is still one of the cleanest CC setups a Healer can bring. On top of that, you’re durable, you have big saves, and you can stabilize games that should be lost.

PvP Tank Rankings in Midnight

Despite fewer people playing as Tanks in PvP, I still feel like this separate tier list should exist. Those executing this role primarily choose the spec based on the utility, disruption tools, and how unkillable you are when playing it. But forget about topping damage meters, like seriously. Look at PvP Tank rankings for Midnight Season 1:

Tier

Specs

A

Protection Paladin, Guardian Druid

B

Blood Death Knight, Brewmaster Monk, Protection Warrior

C

Vengeance Demon Hunter

The biggest difference with the two other tier lists I’ve shown to you before is that there’s no Tank spec that sits in S-Tier. That basically explains why Tanks aren’t that popular in PvP at all, because a lot of people actually think that Tanks shouldn’t even exist in this mode. But anyway, let’s see who you can try out if you’re really into PvP tanking in WoW now.

Protection Paladin

Protection Paladin can potentially be among the top PvP specs in WoW Midnight in terms of pure tanking. You’re just basically screaming, “I’m invincible and no one on my team can die,” all around when playing it. You also play like a second Healer in PvP, and that can help a lot in objective modes. You’ve got plenty of options to save people with endless bubbles, and you’ll always serve as an island of stability.

Guardian Druid

Guardian Druid is the only Tank on this WoW PvP tier list that can actually do insane damage. You win a lot of 1v1s, and that’s a huge deal in Blitz and random skirmish situations. You also stay quite durable, not that unkillable like Prot Pal, but you can definitely soak a ton of incoming damage. This is probably the only Tank spec that is close to S-Tier, but I’m not putting it there because Healers are still better.

Blood Death Knight

Blood DK is a solid option if you wanna tank in PvP, but you’ll carry with your utility rather than damage. Chains of Ice and Death Grip are still insanely annoying in PvP, and if you’re playing objective modes, that alone makes you valuable for peeling, dragging people, and controlling space. The issue is that the damage feels low compared to other Tanks. You’ll see how much this matters in 1v1s, especially if you compare yourself with Guardian Druid here.

Best Specs for Beginners in PvP

Being new to PvP in Midnight doesn’t mean you’re going to be lying dead all the time. You’ve got quite a lot of options to try out as a total beginner. You’ll bring enough value and will start slowly progressing through rating to switch to more skill-dependent specs in the future. I’ve got these four best specs for beginners in PvP in WoW Midnight to go for:

  1. Fury Warrior - This is arguably the most obvious pick for melee DPS in PvP because it’s easy to understand, and you have huge spikes of damage to boast. Stick to a target you wanna take down, and you’re on it. No complicated rotations or anything like that on Fury Warrior.
  2. Marksmanship Hunter - Going for the most reliable ranged starter, I can’t miss out on MM Hunter here. You just need to learn to play from a distance and select the most vulnerable targets. Also, no hard rotation here. Just stay away and learn how the fight develops.
  3. Holy Paladin - You’re incredibly hard to take down as Holy Pal. That’s the only reason you can go for it, but you’ve got a simple chain like stun into blind that will always help you stay alive even longer and protect your teammates along the way.
  4. Holy Priest - This is probably the easiest Healer for beginners in WoW PvP, as your abilities are direct and reactive. You’ve got all the variants from big to simple heals, strong AoE healing, as well as instant CC like Holy Word: Chastise. What else do you possibly need? I don’t know.

Of course, I’ve picked only those specs that I find the easiest, according to me. You’re free to try any other specs you want. All that matters is the fun you have when playing them, and what value you bring to PvP.

Solo Shuffle PvP Tier List

An ideal balance between having their own win condition and enough survivability is key to hitting higher positions in Solo Shuffle. I’m not a huge fan of this mode, but I do understand how fun it can be. These rankings are quite different from the general PvP tier list I’ve shown to you at the very start. The reason for this is that I’ve tried to focus on all the specifics this mode offers to explain my choice. Here’s a full Solo Shuffle PvP tier list for Midnight:

Tier

Specs

S

Unholy Death Knight, Fire Mage, Feral Druid, Marksmanship Hunter, Devastation Evoker, Retribution Paladin, Balance Druid, Restoration Shaman, Discipline Priest, Protection Paladin, Blood Death Knight

A

Destruction Warlock, Shadow Priest, Survival Hunter, Arms Warrior, Demonology Warlock, Beast Mastery Hunter, Devourer Demon Hunter, Holy Paladin, Mistweaver Monk, Preservation Evoker, Protection Warrior, Guardian Druid

B

Enhancement Shaman, Havoc Demon Hunter, Windwalker Monk, Elemental Shaman, Fury Warrior, Subtlety Rogue, Frost Mage, Affliction Warlock, Holy Priest, Brewmaster Monk

C

Assassination Rogue, Frost Death Knight, Arcane Mage, Outlaw Rogue, Augmentation Evoker, Restoration Druid, Vengeance Demon Hunter

Note: This tier list for Solo Shuffle in WoW is highly subjective, and the meta is changing constantly in this mode. What I’ve tried to do is to cover all the specializations in a way that I feel them. You can strongly disagree with the placement, and you can surely prove wrong by hitting the highest rating with the spec from C-Tier. But this is how I feel about Solo Shuffle in the current state and meta.

Arena PvP Tier List

I’ve basically combined both Arena 2v2 and Arena 3v3 into one section and tier list. Let’s be honest, 2v2 is played way more often, and you’re probably here looking for the rankings specifically for this mode. And most of the recommendations and the tier list in general can be applied to both Arenas in the long run. But I’ve mainly relied on Arena 2v2 when thinking of this. Check out my full Arena PvP tier list for Midnight:

Tier

Specs

S

Unholy Death Knight, Shadow Priest, Beast Mastery Hunter, Marksmanship Hunter, Survival Hunter, Subtlety Rogue, Assassination Rogue, Destruction Warlock, Windwalker Monk, Retribution Paladin, Restoration Shaman, Discipline Priest, Guardian Druid

A

Havoc Demon Hunter, Fury Warrior, Devastation Evoker, Elemental Shaman, Demonology Warlock, Fire Mage, Arms Warrior, Frost Mage, Devourer Demon Hunter, Feral Druid, Holy Priest, Mistweaver Monk, Preservation Evoker, Holy Paladin, Protection Warrior, Blood Death Knight, Protection Paladin

B

Balance Druid, Affliction Warlock, Arcane Mage, Frost Death Knight, Restoration Druid, Vengeance Demon Hunter, Brewmaster Monk

C

Enhancement Shaman, Outlaw Rogue, Augmentation Evoker

Playing any Arena in WoW means you’re taking more risks because you’re playing with someone else. This means you can be punished for going too far or trying to do too predictable damage. Coordination is what you should focus on in these modes, as well as how you use your CCs.

Battleground Blitz PvP Tier List

In Battleground Blitz, I was constantly thinking about how important it is to build tempo here and win 1v1 when they happen. You’re always in motion, rotation, spinning, and so on. You need a spec that doesn’t need to be babysitted. That’s why those with control and mobility take higher positions in these rankings of mine. See a current Battleground Blitz PvP tier list for Midnight:

Tier

Specs

S

Retribution Paladin, Balance Druid, Unholy Death Knight, Marksmanship Hunter, Arms Warrior, Subtlety Rogue, Feral Druid, Shadow Priest, Holy Priest, Discipline Priest, Guardian Druid, Protection Paladin

A

Devastation Evoker, Destruction Warlock, Survival Hunter, Havoc Demon Hunter, Devourer Demon Hunter, Fire Mage, Enhancement Shaman, Elemental Shaman, Fury Warrior, Windwalker Monk, Preservation Evoker, Mistweaver Monk, Blood Death Knight

B

Frost Death Knight, Frost Mage, Assassination Rogue, Outlaw Rogue, Affliction Warlock, Restoration Shaman, Holy Paladin, Protection Warrior, Vengeance Demon Hunter

C

Beast Mastery Hunter, Augmentation Evoker, Arcane Mage, Demonology Warlock, Restoration Druid, Brewmaster Monk

All the specs you see in S-Tier can fight for objectives and give constant pressure on their own. Again, you can play whatever spec you like or have mastered perfectly. Your personal preference and skill matter more than any rankings you find on the web. But this is what I’ve seen in WoW Midnight in Season 1 so far, and how I treat all the specs in this mode specifically.
