Tank Rankings for WoW Midnight

I’ve picked only two specs for the S-Tier because they’re much stronger compared to other contenders on the list. Yet you can still tank keys and other endgame content on anything. The only difference is how stressed you’ll feel doing it. Personally, I find tanking quite a difficult task by default, and I want my class and spec to be as meta as possible. This is how current Tank rankings for WoW Midnight look:

Both Brewmaster Monk and Guardian Druid are top Tanks in WoW Midnight, and they can easily clear the highest keys if you’re playing in the right party. I especially like how Guardian Druid is played now.

I would actually choose it even if it wouldn’t be in the S-Tier just because of the playstyle and class design. But I don’t remember the last time Bear was unplayable, he’s just too strong. But going for the A-Tier picks is also an option, as the result still depends a lot on how well you’re playing the spec, not just its placement in the meta.

Midnight Best Tank Classes

Picking the strongest Tank is a way more difficult decision, especially for me, because you don’t have that many options compared to DPS, for example. I’ve already figured out my favorite spec of mine, and it’s luckily in the S-Tier now. I see it not only from my personal experience, but from the statistics and how PUGs are played. These are the best Tank classes in Midnight so far:

1. Brewmaster Monk
2. Guardian Druid
3. Vengeance Demon Hunter

These specs are way ahead of those that are sitting in the B-Tier. I would recommend them for higher M+ keys and simply carrying your PUGs or friends’ parties. I will go over each of the strongest specs listed here in detail.

Brewmaster Monk

Brewmaster Monk is arguably the best Tank class in WoW due to its flexibility and balance between pure tanking and dealing damage. The spec has got massive self-healing right now, and Vital Flame is a huge part of why it’s so strong. And don’t forget about Celestial Fortune here, which makes you practically unkillable. Most of my friends who are running Brew claim that they’re immortal if they press big buttons properly.

Yeah, Brew is not that filler-spam Tank. The big button I’m talking about is Stagger plus Purifying Brew. This is what shapes the identity of this specialization. Fortifying Brew and Celestial Brew are your “nope” buttons, and when you pair that with how strong the self-healing is, it’s honestly hard to justify picking a weaker tank unless you really love it.

As for the damage part, I would outline these buttons for Brew in my opinion:

• Keg Smash
• Breath of Fire

They’re your basic threat and AoE pressure, and they’ll help you move through pulls dealing consistent damage to assist your DPS guys. Brew is a really fun spec, and I would recommend it for those who play aggressively and want to survive random mistakes that everyone can make, especially in higher keys.

 

 

Guardian Druid

Guardian Druid is the strongest Tank in Midnight, in my opinion, just because the spec offers endless self-healing if you rotate properly. All that comes with solid damage that often puts you near DPS guys when looking at meters. Druid as a class looks complicated because it has a million buttons, but Guardian’s core loop is not that deep once you get it. But I like the flow of this spec, and Guardian is extremely easy to play for me.

Ironfur is your mitigation button, and you keep patching yourself up with Frenzied Regeneration. Rotate properly, and you’ll live through the hardest run. Trust me, you’ll spend more brain power on the dungeon learning instead of remembering what buttons to press in what order. That matters a lot early season when is learning. You’ll see the difference. The only real downside is comp stuff, like Mark of the Wild overlap if your Healer is already a Restoration Druid. Vengeance Demon Hunter

Vengeance DH is the only spec I’ve put into A-Tier in my WoW retail Tank tier list, and it’s actually strong. Don’t get me wrong, it obviously falls behind Brew or Guardian, but the biggest change is that it plays a lot simpler now. I’m talking about Fel Devastation in particular because you’re less likely to die if you don’t press it perfectly. And the overall skill ceiling dropped a ton compared to previous expansions.

That said, don’t confuse simpler with weak. I see a lot of playing Vengeance DH and bringing great output while being super tanky. All that is also thanks to your apex talent Untethered Rage. Free procs, more Metamorphosis uptime, and you’ll often find yourself in an undying state. All that makes him quite valuable and definitely the A-Tier, but he can’t compete with these two monsters on top of the current Tank rankings in WoW Midnight I’ve gone over before.

Best Tank for Beginners in Midnight

Guardian Druid is the best Tank for beginners in Midnight, and I also started with this spec back in my days. And you’ll also like it not only for being a perfect Tank, but for dealing amazing single-target damage, too. This means faster bosses, cleaner threat, and you’ll never be afraid of staying alone. This is the spec for every situation, and you’ll find yourself in many of those as a new player in WoW.

My biggest “yes” for Bear is that your rotation is never complicated, and yet you’re doing your job perfectly. Instead of looking at what you’re about to press, you can actually focus on other things that matter: learning pulls, when to kit, and other stuff like dungeon routes.

 

 

Protection Paladin - A Hidden Gem for You to Try

The second-best Tank spec for beginners to try is Protection Paladin. I'm not kidding here, you can even see people arguing if Prot Pal or Prot Warrior is better in this meta. But this is a sort of superhero in PUGs because you’re self-sufficient and have all the answers to what can possibly happen. The only reason I haven’t placed Prot Pal as high in my tier list is the recent changes in Midnight. This spec has become super squishy, even if you go for Sentinel. But you still got your spec shaping buttons like:

• Word of Glory
• Lay on Hands
• Divine Shield

And I could go on with this list forever with the stuff like Consecration and Shield of the Righteous dealing plenty of AoE damage here. In general, I would recommend you try this spec despite being placed in the B-Tier for now. I’m sure this will change with future patches, and it’ll be in the meta again. Once you get more acquainted with the Tank role in WoW by playing Guardian Druid, go for Prot Paladin for sure.
