Midnight Best Class Tier List Quick Summary:
- The best DPS specs are Arcane Damage and Demonology Warlock. They’re great for both M+ keys and raids, and you’ll never be left out of the group due to what damage numbers you can do.
- Restoration Druid and Holy Paladin are the strongest Healers overall, but they have different playstyles.
- Guardian Druid and Brewmaster Monk are the S-Tier Tanks that can survive the hardest pulls and also deal competitive damage.
- Consider Havoc Demon Hunter, Restoration Shaman, and Protection Paladin if you’re playing solo and prefer PUGs rather than playing with friends. These specs are self-sufficient and can handle everything on their own.
- Devourer Demon Hunter, Devastation Evoker, and Beast Mastery Hunter are the best specs for beginners in Midnight. Forget about difficult rotations and enjoy the content rather than learning what buttons to press and the correct order.
You can go for any specialization from this guide, but your progression path in the game will always be focused on WoW Gold to make. At Skycoach, we offer a more convenient alternative to endless farming. Get any amount of the currency you need to any region and server you’re playing on.
Midnight Class Tier List - All Specs Ranked

I’ve started with the general rankings for those who want to get a quick glance at what’s going on with the current meta. All playable specs are gathered in a single table for your convenience. You might disagree with the placement, but that’s how I see the situation now and what the statistics say. Here’s the overall Midnight class tier list with all specs included:

C |
Retribution Paladin, Beast Mastery Hunter, Arms Warrior, Frost Death Knight |
|
D |
Fire Mage, Windwalker Monk, Havoc Demon Hunter |
I’m not going to focus this much on Arcane Mage and Demo Warlock here, because I’ve already covered them and other specs in my separate DPS tier list for Midnight. But they’re still strong, nothing has changed even after the recent patch. You can read more about them further in the guide, or click on the tier list linked and get all the details there.
As for Resto Druid, Holy Paladin, Guardian Druid, and Brewmaster Monk are the best WoW classes in the role they perform. Not all of them are beginner-friendly, but I’ll get to this section further in the guide, too. All the specializations you see in the S-Tier will be described in detail for you to understand why I’ve chosen this placement.
Best Melee DPS in Midnight
I’ve tested these three specs playing mainly M+ dungeons. My friends and I constantly hit the highest damage numbers. These specializations also proved to be valuable for groups, and I never felt useless in terms of utility. Here are the best melee DPS in Midnight to play in the current meta:
- Unholy Death Knight
- Survival Hunter
- Subtlety Rogue
You have the right to disagree here, but this tier list hasn’t been created to make you play a certain spec. I’m just sharing my vision and what I’m seeing in the game now. You can surely complete any M+ keys with the class and specs you like. The results mainly depend on what you like and how well you’re adapted to a specific playstyle. But these three guys here actually rock, and you can see it from numerous Reddit posts about the best WoW classes.
Unholy Death Knight

Unholy Death Knight remains the strongest class in Midnight if comparing melee DPS specs. He gets especially strong when major cooldown windows are up. The reason for being this powerful is Army of the Dead and other burst tools, as well as your high sustain to survive the hardest pulls. You’ll also get invited more often to parties because no other melee can match the pressure Unholy DK offers. I’ve seen this myself, and yeah, it felt good.
Survival Hunter

Whether I like it or not, but Survival Hunter is among the best classes in WoW Midnight, and it takes this place even after the nerfs and bug fixes. As I said in my separate DPS tier list, I don’t like this spec and played it only for a little while. Yet I see how powerful Surv Hunter is with his aggressive burst windows and Boomstick combo. You can manage to survive long enough and deal a ton of damage, but you’re definitely not the utility king.
Subtlety Rogue

Unlike the previous contender, Subtlety Rogue has everything included. I’m talking about the frontloaded burst damage and the famous Rogue utility package. Your potential unlocks in AoE fights thanks to your Shuriken Storm and Black Powder, especially on bigger packs where burst timing matters. But your single-target damage can be noticeably weaker unless you sacrifice your AoE flow. Let’s be honest though, you won’t do this in any world.
Best Ranged DPS in Midnight
I’m not that into ranged DPS in WoW in general, but I do like Demonology Warlock. This spec happens to be on top of the current meta, and I honestly like it. He’s super powerful, and I hope he’s going to stay like this throughout the entire Season 1. I’ve also picked the following best ranged DPS in Midnight:
- Arcane Mage
- Demonology Warlock
- Devastation Evoker
Honestly, I’m sure Arcane Mage is going to get nerfed soon. It’s already been, but it doesn’t seem to be enough, lol. I would also add Augmentation Evoker here as a sort of hidden meta because this spec is often underestimated. But it stays on my list of WoW meta classes if I’m playing in a group of friends, not PUG. This spec brings such utility that you’re not going to see from any other classes, but you depend on the team too much. It’s sad, but true.
Arcane Mage

Arcane Mage often sits in S-Tier across all other rankings I’ve seen so far, and my WoW retail class tier list isn’t an exception here. I don’t play this spec that much, but I can’t deny the fact that it’s powerful. This specialization wins on peak windows, and that matters a lot in group content where deleting a priority target fast can carry the whole pull.
Your Arcane Barrage is a huge part of that identity, especially when you’re funneling damage properly. The burst becomes even crazier thanks to your Touch of the Magi. The only downside to mention is that not everyone can handle the spec’s rotation well. You’ll need some time to get used to it and learn it.
Demonology Warlock

Demonology Warlock has amazing single-target damage, excellent sustain, and huge pull damage. I’m having the best time playing this spec, and I would surely put it to WoW Midnight top classes in the current meta. Apart from damage, you have your demons like Demonic Tyrant to tank for you, allowing you to deal even more damage while staying safe at the back. It’s probably one of the safest picks for ranged DPS if you don’t want to die immediately after someone locks in on you.
Devastation Evoker

Unlike Aug Evoker, you can safely go for Devastation Evoker to play in PUGs. Yeah, he lost some raw AoE power, but the overall damage profile is still in great condition. And your single-target damage got help from fixes and tuning changes. Your Deep Breath still gives that explosive pull-to-pull pressure, and Disintegrate allows you to melt down solo targets. It might not be the S-Tier pick, but I’m sure it has all the tools to perform like a top pick in the right hands. Just not in mine, lmao.
Best Healers in Midnight
Healer balance in Midnight looks much more about the profile in general. Your raw HPS doesn’t matter that much. Your dungeon pacing, recovery windows, and how punishing it is in messy groups were my priorities when choosing the strongest picks. Here are the best Healers in Midnight right now:
- Restoration Druid
- Holy Paladin
Both are top-tier choices I would easily put into S-Tier. The difference here is that Resto Druids are more versatile, and Holy Pals is the spec I’d recommend to those who want a durable and more reliable Healer that brings huge value to a whole group.
Restoration Druid

Restoration Druid is the best class to play in WoW Midnight as a Healer since you have answers to everything. You’ve got strong sustained healing, great spot healing, and excellent AoE recovery. All that comes with the kind of Mana efficiency that lets you play aggressively for longer than most Healers. Your Rejuvenation and Wild Growth are your core abilities, and your Tranquility helps stabilize your group’s HP bars instantly. Add strong survivability and Druid utility on top, and it’s very hard to argue against Resto being number one.
Holy Paladin

Holy Paladin is my pick here because I like to play it safe. This spec has got everything I need, from being durable enough to a ton of unique utility only Paladins can provide in group play. I’m talking about strong on-demand healing and all the kinds of defensive tools to stay alive yourself and keep your party with higher HP bars. Your Holy Shock and Lay on Hands are exactly the spells I’m talking about. Especially the latter one, it’s arguably the strongest emergency save in WoW.
Best Tanks in Midnight
Moving to the next section of class rankings in Midnight, I’ve got the two strong Tanks to share with you. I’m not that a tank-guy myself, but I’m trying to follow the meta and know what my friends are maining and why. See the best Tanks in Midnight to go for now:
- Brewmaster Monk
- Guardian Druid
These specs boast excellent survivability during pulls, but that’s not all, of course. They have decent damage, self-sustain, and control. You always know how to counter a specific situation in a fight, and your fights will rarely get messy if you master these specializations.
Brewmaster Monk

Brewmaster Monk sits in S-Tier in my WoW class tier list for PvE because he combines the two things no other Tanks can provide: huge durability and excellent damage. Your Stagger is the only mechanic that counters everything, and you’re never dying if you press the buttons correctly.
It only gets better if you rotate your core defensives and self-healing tools properly. This is what makes Brewmaster Monks more about button timing rather than filler spam. Abilities like Celestial Fortune and your major cooldown windows are also doing a ton of work here. But be ready to deal with a higher skill ceiling to play the spec well enough.
Guardian Druid

Guardian Druid might be stronger in terms of single-target damage, but that’s not the biggest point when we’re talking about Tanks. Yet your self-healing is also on a great level, especially if you know what buttons to press. I’m talking about Frenzied Regeneration and Ironfur that allow you to stay alive even during the hardest pulls. And I can honestly say that Guardian Druids are way easier to master, and this is why I’m usually going for it rather than Brewmaster Monk.
Strongest Classes for Solo Players
I know that many of you are probably playing alone and PUG your keys because you don’t have enough time to gather a perfect group after work in the evening. I’ve been there, and I also often play all alone. I’ve gathered the three strongest classes for solo players in Midnight for each role:
- Havoc Demon Hunter
- Restoration Shaman
- Protection Paladin
These three work because they’re self-sufficient, played in a forgiving way, and you’ve got all the tools to carry bad situations on your own. But do remember that playing any role other than DPS becomes much harder because Healers and Tanks are more group reliant.
Havoc Demon Hunter
Havoc DH is arguably the safest pick to play all alone because it’s fast, hard to pin down, and naturally durable for a DPS spec. This is what you’re looking for in PUG, but you’re also bringing consistent damage. Your Fel Rush, Blur, and leech-based abilities help you stay alive and deal a ton of damage while your group is falling apart around you, lol.
This spec is often mentioned among the strongest for solo players. I’ve seen tons of threads and discussions where people share how powerful the Demon Hunter is. It’s also a great pick for beginners, but more on that later.
Restoration Shaman
PUGs rarely fail from perfect math. They fail when everything goes wrong at once. Resto Shaman has answers for that. Capacitor Totem gives you reliable control, and having a kick as a healer is huge value in random groups. Riptide and Earth Shield also make tank care easier without overcomplicating your rotation.
Protection Paladin
Prot Paladins have always been a golden standard for me. That’s the spec I can rely on during the hardest pulls in PUGs. You’ve got a gift to fix problems, and that’s what arises most often when playing solo. I’m talking about control for caster packs, strong personal defenses, and some of the best support buttons in the game. Word of Glory, Blessing of Protection, and Lay on Hands save the very failed pulls from being wiped.
Strongest Classes for Beginners
New to WoW or just coming back after a break? I’ve got you here with the top three classes to start playing as without a giant learning curve. They’ll let you focus on the game first and the rotation second. You can learn dungeons, mechanics, and positioning without being pushed. Check out the strongest classes for beginners in Midnight:
|
Class |
Specialization |
Description |
|
Demon Hunter |
Devourer |
This is a brand-new spec added in Midnight, and it has quickly become super popular due to how easy it is to play. Your Consume is the biggest reason because you can cast it and move around, and even jump. Instant teleports and high mobility give you more room to recover from bad positioning and survive longer. |
|
Evoker |
Devastation |
Devastation is just fun and easy to pick up. You’ve got Fire Breath, Disintegrate, and Deep Breath as your primary abilities in the rotation. Your Hover also makes movement less punishing, and you can actually deal a lot of damage despite being a complete beginner on this spec. |
|
Hunter |
Beast Mastery |
As a BM Hunter, you know that your pet always does a lot of work for you, which takes pressure off new players in solo content and dungeons. Your Kill Command and Bestial Wrath shape the spec, as you can deal a ton of damage while staying alive and learning how encounters work. This is the least punishing specs, in my opinion, to start with, so you’re welcome. |
Top Classes for Leveling Fast in Midnight
The best classes for leveling fast in Midnight I picked for you share the same theme: they’ve got strong damage, low downtime, and a kit that keeps you moving instead of slowing down. This is what allows you to hit level 90 much faster compared to other specs. See what I’ve got for you:
- Retribution Paladin - This is a leveling monster because he’s got strong burst with ridiculous safety. Wake of Ashes gives you fast kill windows, and your Word of Glory, as well as Lay on Hands, and Divine Shield let you stay alive and survive during the hardest mistakes. You’ll rarely have to retreat and can keep pushing forward non-stop.
- Frost Mage - I can describe this spec as control, the free survivability you’re looking for. You slow everything, kite with ease, and can AoE the packs easily. Your questing and solo content will be much easier, and the spec is easy to master.
- Affliction Warlock - You spread your DoTs, and everyone around you dies. That’s probably all you wanna know about this spec. The biggest plus here is that you can keep dealing damage while repositioning and kiting. Use that to your advantage when aggro bigger pulls, and you’ll stay because Warlocks are the kings of survivability among casters in general.
How I Created This WoW Tier List
You might disagree with the placement of certain specs in my WoW tier list. But I’m not trying to create perfect rankings here. This is just based on my observations and pure statistics. You’re free to play any spec you want because they all can complete the retail content. I’ve done a sort of mix with damage or healer profiles, as well as utility and group value. This is what matters most in both M+ keys and raids, in my opinion.
This is not a final Season 1 verdict for sure, and it’ll evolve as the season goes on. I’m expecting huge patches, but I already see how the Midnight expansion has changed my approach to choosing what spec to play. Good luck, and I’ll see you in Azeroth!
