Best Decks for Boat Defense in Clash Royale

The biggest alert is that I don’t want you to copy these decks blindly, especially if your card levels are low. But you can read the description of each deck to see what this setup’s strengths are. You can then swap certain cards and replace them with the ones of higher levels you have in your collection. Here are the best Boat Defense decks in Clash Royale as of 2026:

  1. Heavy Counterpush Defense
  2. Swarm Punish Defense
  3. Tank Wall Defense
  4. Anti-Air Defense
  5. Level-Based Defense

I personally run Heavy Counterpush Defense more often. It’s built based on larger units that can distract your enemy. It’s also super annoying and hard to get through. To me, that’s exactly what a strong Boat Defense deck looks like. But let’s get into more detail and see what each setup includes.

Heavy Counterpush Boat Defense

This is the best overall Boat Defense deck in Clash Royale as of the current moment. I like it for how tanky it is, and you also have enough anti-air units to counter the strongest attacks. Those large guys you have in this deck can help you distract and spread out even the most dangerous push. Here’s what cards the Heavy Counterpush deck has inside:

Tower

Cards

Left Tower

Giant Skeleton, Royal Ghost, Electro Wizard, Guards

Middle Tower

P.E.K.K.A, Electro Dragon, Fisherman, Zappies

Right Tower

Mega Knight, Ram Rider, Baby Dragon, Dark Prince

I’m not gonna explain too much about Giant Skeleton or P.E.K.K.A here because they just serve as pure distractions and soak a ton of incoming damage. Just think of it, the first one has 3,254 HP and the second one has 3,476 HP at level 11. Think of what you’ll have if they’re level 15 or higher. Units like Electro Wizard, Electro Dragon, and Zappies are your resets and anti-air defense.

And Ram Rider together with Royal Ghost are the cards you’re using to create pressure after defending your part of the map. Speaking of Royal Ghost, it’s still one of the strongest cards for such scenarios despite its nerf in March 2026 connected with its re-invisibility ability. If ignored, they can destroy your opponent’s tower in a few strikes. And both of these cards are hard to catch, and this might take a lot of time to deal with them.

Swarm Punish Boat Defense

I like this defense when the enemy is trying to take down my field with a single-target-heavy deck. And in most cases, they don’t have enough splash to deal with Goblin Gang, Skeleton Army, and other little fellas running around. For example, such heavy decks usually run more expensive spells like Lightning, and that’s what helps. See what cards I’ve included in the Swarm Punish Defense deck here:

Tower

Cards

Left Tower

Royal Recruits, Mother Witch, Dart Goblin, Guards

Middle Tower

Night Witch, Skeleton Army, Baby Dragon, Magic Archer

Right Tower

Bowler, Goblin Gang, Flying Machine, Dark Prince

The idea is that you have a ton of units to distract and take down a larger target before it reaches your tower. Royale Recruits are a perfect card for this, just like Skeleton Army and Night Witch. When your enemy is distracted, cards like Magic Archer, Flying Machine, and Dart Goblin will add pressure from a distance. And cards like Bowler and Dark Prince will help you survive if your enemy does have splash to counter you.

Tank Wall Boat Defense

The Tank Wall Defense setup allows you to protect each tower equally and get the timer to zero before one of them falls. Your enemy will have a hard time breaking through this defense in most cases. And you have answers to the most common deck types everyone is running now in Clan Wars. See what cards it includes:

Tower

Cards

Left Tower

P.E.K.K.A, Hunter, Electro Dragon, Zappies

Middle Tower

Giant Skeleton, Bowler, Fisherman, Musketeer

Right Tower

Mega Knight, Mother Witch, Magic Archer, Guards

The strategy here is simple, and the deck’s main goal is to save a tower and waste your opponent’s time. P.E.K.K.A and Hunter will help you take down their tanks. Bowler, Giant Skeleton, and Mega Knight take care of ground pushes. Electro Dragon, Musketeer, Magic Archer, and Zappies give you air coverage and ranged pressure. And one of my favorite Legendary cards is Fisherman is also here to mess with positioning.

Anti-Air Boat Defense

The name of this deck speaks for itself. You’ll want to use it when your clan is suffering from Balloon, Lava Hound, or even Inferno Dragon. If your deck has no air answer, they’ll annihilate you solo. And this is what I’m trying to counter here with this setup. Check out what this Anti-Air Defense deck includes:

Tower

Cards

Left Tower

Baby Dragon, Electro Dragon, Inferno Dragon, Zappies

Middle Tower

Musketeer, Flying Machine, Phoenix, Magic Archer

Right Tower

Mega Minion, Mother Witch, Dart Goblin, Dark Prince

You’ll definitely have to run Baby Dragon and Electro Dragon here, and many players have Inferno Dragon leveled up, too. But Phoenix might be a controversial pick here, and I understand that. Not many of us have this card leveled up enough to use it at its full potential. But in case you do, go ahead and use it in your Clan Wars defenses.

And you, of course, can’t leave your ground completely unprotected. For this, I run Dark Prince and Mother Witch in this deck.

Best Level-Based Boat Defense

In most cases, you’ll have to build around your highest-level cards rather than copying one of the archetypes I’ve shared above. And that’s what usually works for normal players who aren’t paying real money to play Clash Royale. Don’t copy this deck card by card, but instead use it as one example to create your own setup later. See what I’ve got here:

Tower

Cards

Left Tower

Giant Skeleton, Valkyrie, Musketeer, Goblin Gang

Middle Tower

Mini P.E.K.K.A, Baby Dragon, Guards, Dart Goblin

Right Tower

Royal Giant, Wizard, Mega Minion, Dark Prince

And yeah, this deck has no claim to be the best possible deck for Boat Defense whatsoever. I’m sharing it here as a template, and these are the cards I have at level 15-16 in my collection. That’s usually enough to protect my towers and be prepared for the most common scenarios my enemy might come up with during Clan Wars.

You want each tower to have:

  • One card that can tank or pressure
  • One splash card
  • One anti-air or ranged card
  • One swarm, tank killer, or support card

If your level 15 Valkyrie is replacing a level 11 Dark Prince, use Valkyrie. If your Baby Dragon is low but your Executioner is maxed, use Executioner. Boat Defense uses your card levels, so raw stats matter a lot.

Best Cards for Boat Defense in Clash Royale

The best Boat Defense cards are the ones that work as intended even when they’re controlled by AI. These are mostly the cards that don’t require special placement or timing. I’ve got a list of the best cards for Boat Defense in Clash Royale for each unit type:

Role

Best Cards

Tanks / Heavy Defense

Giant Skeleton, Mega Knight, P.E.K.K.A, Royal Recruits, Royal Giant

Splash Damage

Baby Dragon, Bowler, Dark Prince, Valkyrie, Wizard, Executioner

Anti-Air

Musketeer, Flying Machine, Electro Dragon, Dart Goblin

Tank Killers

P.E.K.K.A, Mini P.E.K.K.A, Inferno Dragon, Hunter, Fisherman

Swarm / Distraction

Guards, Goblin Gang, Skeleton Army, Royal Recruits

Counterpush

Ram Rider, Royal Ghost, Mother Witch, Dark Prince, Sparky

Reset / Control

Electro Wizard, Electro Dragon, Zappies, Fisherman

As you can see, there are no spells or build-type cards included. Also, you’ll see no cards that need perfect timing or towers with no anti-air and splash damage. I would like to specify that you never want to include any spells in Boat Defense decks. They all need timing, and AI can’t do that, trust me.

Best Boat Defense Deck for Beginners

The biggest struggle you’ll have as a beginner in defending your boat during Clan Wars is that your cards are underleveled. And you need too many of them to build a better setup. Also, my advice here is not to place your defense too high on the entire clan boat. Put it as low as possible so that stronger opponents would have to defeat your stronger allies first. See the best Boat Defense deck for beginners as of now:

Tower

Cards

Left Tower

Giant, Valkyrie, Musketeer, Skeleton Army

Middle Tower

Mini P.E.K.K.A, Baby Dragon, Goblin Gang, Dark Prince

Right Tower

Royal Giant, Wizard, Guards, Mega Minion

But replacements are more than welcome here. Always look at how leveled your cards are. A few examples can be like this:

  • Use P.E.K.K.A instead of Mini P.E.K.K.A if it’s much higher level
  • Go for Electro Dragon instead of Baby Dragon if it fits your levels
  • Use Flying Machine instead of Musketeer if it’s stronger
  • Pick Royal Recruits instead of Guards if they’re leveled

You don’t need to chase a perfect setup and use the cards with the maximum level and role coverage instead.

How to Build a Strong Boat Defense Deck

Copying someone else’s deck for defending your boat won’t help you much if you don’t understand the way it’s built. In this section of the guide, I’ll explain how you can build a strong Boat Defense deck to make sure all 3 of your towers survive and annoy the enemy as much as possible. Here are the rules that I follow:

  1. Start with your highest-level useful cards
  2. Add one tank or heavy defensive card to each tower
  3. Pick at least one splash damage unit. It’ll protect you from swarms that are often used in the meta now
  4. Add anti-air to every tower if possible
  5. Include a tank killer somewhere in the setup because Golem-based decks might be annoying in this case
  6. Avoid relying too much on spells, or don’t use them at all
  7. Always use the Test Boat Defense button to see how your setup is doing before another Clan War starts, and don’t forget to change the tower that falls first

And also remember that your opponent builds Elixir at 1.5x the normal rate. They will always use this advantage to out-cycle you from the start of the battle. One final tip: make sure you don’t use the same build every Clan War. You need to see who your opponents are and play accordingly.

F.A.Q.

What is the best Boat Defense deck in Clash Royale?

The best Boat Defense deck in Clash Royale is Heavy Counterpush Defense. I would use these cards across three towers for this setup:

  • Giant Skeleton
  • Royal Ghost
  • Electro Wizard
  • Guards
  • P.E.K.K.A
  • Electro Dragon
  • Fisherman
  • Zappies
  • Mega Knight
  • Ram Rider
  • Baby Dragon
  • Dark Prince

How does Boat Defense work in Clash Royale?

Boat Defense works automatically in Clan Wars. Each defense has 3 towers, and each tower uses 4 cards. Once a tower takes damage, it activates and starts spawning troops to defend your Clan Boat.

What are the best cards for Boat Defense?

The best Boat Defense cards in the current meta are:

  • Giant Skeleton
  • P.E.K.K.A
  • Mega Knight
  • Electro Dragon
  • Zappies
  • Baby Dragon
  • Bowler
  • Ram Rider
  • Royal Ghost
  • Mother Witch

Do card levels matter in Boat Defense?

Your defense uses cards from your own collection, and surely higher-level cards would be stronger for Boat Defense in Clan Wars.

Should you use spells in Boat Defense decks?

I would avoid spell-heavy Boat Defense decks. Spells need timing, and Boat Defense is controlled automatically. Cards with pure defensive value are more reliable for this.

What is the best beginner Boat Defense deck?

A good beginner Boat Defense deck can use the following cards, but look at their levels:

  • Giant
  • Valkyrie
  • Musketeer
  • Skeleton Army
  • Mini P.E.K.K.A
  • Baby Dragon
  • Dark Prince

Is Boat Defense worth setting up in Clan Wars?

You need to do this just to make sure your opponent wastes an extra attack on your boat. If you don’t set up your Boat Defense individually, you won’t have a chance. Also, if your boat survives at the end of the day, your clan will have bonus movement points to win the current Clan War faster.
