How to Farm Abyss Artifacts in Crimson Desert

Though devs say that Crimson Desert is not an RPG, it clearly is. At least mechanically, cause you can’t roleplay as you would in a real RPG. The mechanical part is a skill point system, which unlocks new features, including new combat moves and skills for exploration. There’s even an XP bar on the left of the minimap that grants one Abyss Artifact when filled. If you don’t want to farm the artifacts, you can just rely on them and play the game. The number of artifacts the game gives you is more than enough to beat it. If you want to become overpowered and plow through your enemies, this guide is for you. Here’s how to farm Abyss Artifacts in Crimson Desert:

Sources	Description
Outposts	Most bandit camps will give at least one Abyss Artifact cause they’re made in a way that you’ll fill the progression bar on the left of your minimap once you clear them. Filling a bar is what gives you an artifact.
Boss Fights	All boss fights give an Abyss Artifact, even if it’s the only reward sometimes.
Sealed Artifacts	You can find sealed artifacts near the roads. They are usually placed in altars. Just shine your lantern on them. They always require you to do a little challenge to unlock them.
Abyss Islands	Puzzle islands always give you an Abyss Artifact as a reward. Sometimes they also give new skills.
Achievements	Some significant achievements grant you an artifact, especially when you finish an ultimate challenge.
Witch Shops	You can buy artifacts from Witch’s Lair shops after completing Chapter 3. I don’t recommend doing it, cause you can spend your silver on something better, and getting artifacts can be quite easy if you know what to do.
Main Quest	Lastly, you get Abyss Artifacts as rewards for finishing main story quests.
Reed Devil Farm	After you beat Reed Devil in chapter 3, you can return to the same spot and fight his servants. They respawn endlessly, so it’s a great way to quickly fill up the XP bar.

Despite boss fights granting an artifact, that’s not the best way to farm Abyss Artifacts. Bosses are usually the roadblock that stops you from progressing further if you don’t have enough skills upgraded. My recommendation is to take them as the last measure when trying to get skill points. 

Take note that Abyss Artifacts are needed not only to unlock new moves and skills, but also to upgrade your armor and equipment. I don’t advise doing that early on. Even in the mid-game, spending your Abyss Artifacts on gear is somewhat questionable. Do it only when you are certain you’ve unlocked most of what you need for your build. Even then, I suggest using them to improve Damiane or Oongka, as there are some boss fights where you’ll fight as them, and going in underleveled isn’t a pleasant experience.

Where to Farm Abyss Artifacts in Crimson Desert?

While I wouldn’t say that there’s a big need for farming them, there are multiple places where you can do that. I’ll list some of the most popular Abyss Artifacts farming spots, and I’ll also throw in places where you can get Abyss Gears, cause it’s another important part of a progression, especially if you follow my advice of not wasting your Abyss Artifacts to upgrade gear. Here are the best places to farm Abyss Artifacts in Crimson Desert.

Scholastone Institute

This institute is west of Hernand. There's a fast travel point south of the institute. You'll need it to reset the loot on scholars you're about to pickpocket. Yes, you're gonna steal your Abyss Artifacts. They don't need them anyway. If you have a Ledgermain Abyss Gear, make sure to equip it on your armor, as it grants a chance to pickpocket a duplicate of what you've stolen. In my opinion, this is the best Abyss Artifacts farming method in Crimson Desert. Follow the steps to get the artifacts:

1. Head to a cafeteria zone in the institute. Go up the main path that leads to the institute entrance. From there, turn right to go into a corridor and then turn left. You'll see a large open area with long tables and scholars sitting at them. 
2. Take out your lantern and start checking their pockets. You can also use Blinding Flash cause it has a longer range, but you become slower when using it. 
3. Look for the square shape on the scholar’s belt, just like on the image above. 
4. When you find one, go up and pickpocket the smartypants. 
5. Immediately run away to reset the theft timer. 
6. Repeat the process. You get between 3 and 4 artifacts per run.

Technically, you can pickpocket any scholar that's on your way to the cafeteria, but it's easier to do that there. Another important note is that if you find an Artifact on a scholar who’s sitting at the table, kick them. You need to do that because you can’t pickpocket them while they’re sitting. Once they stand up, you need to steal from them. Be mindful that stealing repeatedly makes it harder to avoid punishment, and eventually, you might be caught and lose silver and the mask you used to cover your face while stealing, but the artifacts will not be taken away.

 

 

Hernand Beggars

This method isn't as consistent as Scholastone's one, but it's still nice to check it from time to time, and it can be done in the very beginning of the game. There are two beggar camps outside Hernand City, on the south and on the west of it. The southern one is called the Scrapfold, the western one is Beggar's End. Go there and check the pockets of these poor fellas. I didn't think I'd stoop so low to steal stuff from literal beggars, but here I am.

Spire of Frost

Now, while we're here, let me share the best way to farm Abyss Gear. You need a lot of them to enhance your equipment. You need the area around the Spire of Frost. Any camp or a place where there are enemies wielding shields and maces will do. I advise going to Frosthold, which is just southwest of the Spire of Frost. 

1. To do this farm, you need to upgrade Shield Bash in the blue skill tree. This is needed to disarm your opponents. 
2. Once you start fighting them, wait for their attack, and as soon as they hit you, use Shield Bash to disarm them. 
3. Run around and collect shields and maces that they drop. After farming for some time, you'll have your inventory filled with maces and shields. 
4. Head to Hernand's Witch House. Talk to her and select "Extract Abyss Gear" from the menu. 

Each shield and mace you've picked up has an Abyss Gear equipped to it. After that, you can use all Fortitude and Malicebane gears that you've got to synthesize Tier 1 Abyss Gear. You'll have ~20 of each per camp, clear. Do it until you get the Abyss Gear that you like. If you don't, you can repeat the process again, just wait for the camp to respawn.

 

 

Abyss Debris Exploration

This one is a little more endgame. Right of Tomasso City, there is a location you can see in the image above. You can send an expedition there. It'll take about 10 Greymanes to travel, but the rewards are well worth it. The task will take 4 days, and you will get Abyss Gear as a reward for doing it. The Abyss Gear you get from this place can be tier 3 or even greater gear if you're lucky enough. You can get 2-3 of them this way.

Timeworn Ruins Exploration

Just like with Abyss Debris, you can send an expedition to the place that you can see in the image above. It will take 3 days and 10 Greymanes to complete. Same as before, you may get from 2 to 3 artifacts after three days have passed. Though it might seem like a long time, it’s the best passive farming of Abyss Artifacts. You don’t need to do anything to get them reliably. You can even skip days to farm them quickly if that’s your choice.
