What are Sprites in Fortnite Season 3 Chapter 7
Sprites are these little, living, cute beings that are said to represent magic that came back into the Island. In game terms, Sprites are equippable enhancements that provide various benefits depending on what kind of Sprite you got. They have their own dedicated inventory slot. They will also replace any Back Bling thingy you got once you equip a Sprite. You can also carry more Sprites in your regular inventory slots, but they won’t provide any benefits unless you equip one of them into that dedicated slot.
Sprites can be found around the island and in various containers, but you can bring them with you back into the lobby as if it’s some kind of extraction shooter-type deal. I’ll explain how extraction works later. So, if you have several, you can choose which one to bring with you in the Lobby!
When you log into the game for the first time in this season and chapter, you get to choose one sprite from 3: Fire, Water, or Earth. Them are the starter Sprites.
How to Extract Sprites in Fortnite
All Sprites can be extracted from the game, unlocked, and kept permanently outside the BR matches. When you extract a sprite, it retains the level and abilities gained during the match it was extracted from. The only Sprite that doesn’t follow this logic is the Dream Sprite, which will extract on its own upon reaching level 5 while also resetting to level 1 at the same time.
You can extract a Sprite in 3 ways:
- Put it into an Extraction Chest found around the map
- Use a Portable Extractor, which is a utility item
- Win a game with a Sprite on you
You can actually extract up to 5 Sprites with the Extraction Chest if you have that many with you.
Sprite Dust
When you extract a Sprite, you also get Sprite Dust, which is a new currency in this Chapter. It’s used to buy various boosts or services. You can spend them on the following things:
- Sprite extraction - 500 Sprite Dust (the price scales with rarity and level of a Sprite)
- 20k XP (once a day) - 1000 Sprite Dust
- Item Rarity Upgrade:
-
- Common -> Uncommon - 250 Sprite Dust
- Uncommon -> Rare - 500 Sprite Dust
- Rare -> Epic - 1000 Sprite Dust
- Epic -> Legendary - 2000 Sprite Dust
-
- Locate Sprites - 100 Sprite Dust
- Re-summon unlocked Sprites from the Lobby (if you died and revived during a match)
Sprite Dust is spent at the Sprite Dust Service Stations found near the Extraction Sites.

How to Level Up Sprites
Whichever Sprite you decide to start with is going to have level 1, which means you can level it up to increase the effect of whatever it does. Leveling them up is done by doing certain actions, which provide a certain amount of XP, which will only be added as long as you have a Sprite equipped in the proper, dedicated slot. Here are all the actions that grant Sprite XP:
- Open container - 75 Sprite XP
- Extract Sprite - 100 Sprite XP (base, but scales with Sprite rarity and level)
- Enemy down - 100 Sprite XP
- Enemy kill - 200 Sprite XP
- Kill assist - 75 Sprite XP
There are a few details. Kills and Assists work on players and AI alike and provide the same amount of XP. Sprite XP for Extraction is given for any type of extraction, whether by using a portable extractor thingy, the regular extraction site chest, or winning a match. As for containers, those are regular yellow chests and Ammo Boxes.
The only time when a Sprite can lose XP and levels is when you die while the Sprite is equipped. When you get killed with a Sprite equipped, its level gets reset to level 1, and you also lose it permanently, meaning you can’t just go back to the lobby and equip it again. At the same time, you can just drop a Sprite on the ground or pass it to your teammate, and its level will be saved. So, I wouldn’t recommend dying if you’re trying to level up your favorite Sprite.
Also, getting the max level 5 for a Sprite unlocks it as a customization option for Guardian Skin and marks it as “Mastered”. That’s the skin where a sprite kind of controls a giant (for them) robotic body.
