DPS Rankings for WoW Forever

So far, I can rank only two specs as high as S-Tier because they’re particularly strong in the meta now. They’re better than any other specializations in terms of raid utility and scaling, and I also see people playing a lot of those two specs. Hunter is arguably the most played class in general, but its Survival spec is even stronger than BM or Marksmanship, for example. There are only so many Hunter spots in one raid. Check out my complete DPS rankings for WoW Forever:

Discipline is normally a healer, of course. I’m including it because Forever supports an actual Smite-focused DPS build, and that is the build I’ve tested myself. I’ll explain where it stands later.
WoW Forever Best DPS Classes

There are plenty of playable DPS specs in Forever, but I wouldn’t spend half the guide explaining every B-Tier placement separately. Instead, I’d focus on covering the ones from S-Tier and A-Tier. These are the best DPS classes in WoW Forever right now:
- Survival Hunter
- Demonology Warlock
- Marksmanship Hunter
- Affliction Warlock
- Destruction Warlock
- Combat Rogue
- Fire Mage
- Fury Warrior
I’ve included all the A-Tier specs in this list as well because they’re also fantastic for all the content we’ve got so far. Of course, this might rapidly change after the smallest patch, but this is how I see the meta in Forever now.
Survival Hunter
Survival Hunter is the best DPS spec in WoW currently, based on the testing used for this ranking. It’s sitting first in basically every fight type, including single-target and encounters where AoE is needed. Auto Shot can still be your largest source of damage. You weave between ranged attacks and melee abilities instead of standing beside the boss for the entire fight.
Its talent modifiers are also huge. Predator’s Edge increases melee Critical Strike damage by 30% and off-hand damage by 50%, and Expose Prey can activate Mongoose Bite when you attack a Hunter’s Mark target. You’ve also got Mongoose Bite bleed damage, Agility and Critical Strike modifiers, and Explosive Trap for strong AoE.
Its only obvious weakness is raid utility. Marksmanship has the cleaner Trueshot Aura argument. But when you’re doing this much more damage than everyone else, I don’t think that matters enough to move Survival out of S-Tier.
Demonology Warlock
Demonology Warlock is another strongest DPS for WoW Forever in the current meta. Yeah, it’s a bit weaker compared to Survival, but you still have everything a raid expects from a DPS like you. Warlocks have Curses, Healthstones, Soulstones, summons, pets, and plenty of other utility. This helps you win over Survival at some point, actually.
Demonic Pact works together with Demonic Sacrifice and also lets you maintain another demon, and you can combine that with Master Demonologist and Demonic Knowledge. Then you have Decimation, which finally gives Demo a real execute. Once the target falls low enough, Soul Fire becomes much faster to cast and stops consuming Soul Shards in the normal way. Add Ruin for better critical damage, and you get a spec that performs well throughout the fight and gets even better near the end.
I personally like Demonology over Survival, and I would main this spec for the long term. Because Hunter’s damage can be nerfed in any upcoming patch, yet Warlock’s utility will remain forever with this class.
Marksmanship Hunter
Marksmanship is another excellent Hunter spec on the list. It’s not that strong compared to Survival, but it still takes a strong spot as an A-Tier specialization. Its biggest advantages are safety, range, scaling, and Trueshot Aura. Mortal Shots gives ranged abilities a 30% Critical Strike damage bonus, and the talent tree has several additional attack speed and damage modifiers.
Marksman was around the top few specs in several of the current single-target tests. Hunter pets are also much better in Forever because they scale from your gear. That means even Marksmanship doesn’t automatically want to remove its pet through Lone Wolf.
Affliction Warlock
Affliction is not that strong in terms of raw damage, but you still have all the benefits the Warlock class has. That means the spec can sit around the middle of the sim table and still be more attractive to raids than another DPS spec doing slightly higher numbers with no meaningful utility. Forever gives Affliction a much better DoT package through instant Corruption, Pandemic, and additional Shadow modifiers.
Destruction Warlock
Nothing compares to Demonology Warlock, but Destruction is good and sits closer to the middle of the current meta. Forever gives the spec several strong Critical Strike modifiers and access to Ruin, which fits Destruction perfectly by heavily increasing the value of your spell crits.
The current tree has plenty of Fire and Destruction damage modifiers, although I’m not that impressed by every deep talent. The Incinerate-focused capstone in particular doesn’t look strong enough to carry the spec on its own. Still, your core spells already hit hard, and stacking crit bonuses with Ruin gives Destruction good scaling once better gear becomes available.
Combat Rogue
I’m putting Combat Rogue in A-Tier because Blizzard’s stated goal is for Rogue to become one of the strongest single-target DPS classes, and Combat is the obvious PvE spec to benefit from that tuning. You also have Blade Flurry for low-target cleave.
The downside is obvious once you leave single-target. Rogue AoE is weak compared with Survival or Fury, and the class doesn’t bring much unique raid utility.
Fire Mage
I’ve already told you many times that I like playing Mage. And Fire is my favorite Mage option in the WoW Forever meta now. You’ve got Combustion, Critical Mass, Fire Power, and strong Critical Strike scaling, but Forever also lets Fire reach much further into other Mage trees. One tested build picks up Missile Barrage. Arcane Missiles procs actually become part of your Fire gameplay.
You can also build around Frostfire Bolt and take Frost talents such as Shatter. That Frostfire playstyle is still a Fire Mage build, not its own specialization. That flexibility is what puts Fire above Arcane and Frost for me.
Fury Warrior
I like how Fury Warrior feels in the current WoW Forever class meta. The removal of world buffs and Rage changes hurt the old Warrior scaling machine. Blizzard appears to be moving Fury toward a more specific niche as an excellent cleave DPS.
You also get excellent scaling talents like Flurry, Dual Wield Specialization, Impale, and Death Wish. I expect all of that to become even better once level 60 gear improves. The biggest issue is raid competition. Warrior is probably going to be one of the most popular classes again, and its raid utility isn’t comparable to what Warlock or Shaman brings.

Strongest Solo DPS in WoW Forever
Compared to Retail WoW, single-target damage means way more in classic-style raids than it does in M+, for example. All the strongest solo DPS in WoW Forever are obviously coming from S-Tier and A-Tier, but these are the five ones I like more than anything else:
- Survival Hunter
- Demonology Warlock
- Marksmanship Hunter
- Combat Rogue
- Fury Warrior
Survival is the obvious winner based on current numbers. The spec is already performing far above most of the field even before level 60 gear scaling really starts to matter. Demo is slightly behind but gets stronger during execute thanks to Decimation. Combat is the one I’d watch closely. Its current numbers aren’t there yet, but Blizzard’s stated direction for Rogue is clearly focused on exceptional single-target output.
Strongest DPS for Group Content in WoW Forever
Forever doesn’t have the same constant huge-pull gameplay as Retail, but cleave and AoE are still important for trash and multi-target boss situations. So far, these are the strongest DPS for group content and AoE in WoW Forever:
- Survival Hunter - Explosive Trap gives you excellent AoE, and your normal toolkit continues doing high damage.
- Fury Warrior - This looks like the intended Warrior niche. Whirlwind, Cleave, and Fury’s strong melee scaling make it one of the best picks once several targets stay together.
- Fire Mage - Fire has the obvious Mage advantage when several targets appear. And its talent flexibility gives you more options than the current Arcane build.
Nothing to add here, especially on Survival Hunter, lol. I’d personally go for Fire Mage again just because I like the class’s overall playstyle. But in terms of raw damage numbers, Survival is the best pick.
Best DPS for Beginners in WoW Forever
I know that a lot of new players are coming to WoW Forever because of the hype. I’ve got a few specializations for you to look at before you start playing. They usually have easier rotations and are stronger in terms of self-sustain. This is what you need as a complete beginner in the game when looking to play as DPS. These are the strongest DPS picks for beginners in WoW Forever:
- Arcane Mage is probably the funniest example. Your rotation can come down to basically Arcane Blast, Arcane Missiles, and a third supporting button. It’s not my strongest Mage spec, but the basic loop is extremely easy to understand.
- Beast Mastery Hunter also looks forgiving because such a huge part of your output comes from the pet. The pet contributes around 50% of your total damage, and Frenzy can add 30% Haste, and Bestial Wrath creates another big damage window.
Extra mention: I’d also put Demonology Warlock here once you understand how the pet and sacrifice interactions work. It has more moving parts than Arcane or BM, but the pet-centric gameplay gives you a lot of consistent damage without needing perfect uptime yourself.
Discipline Priest DPS Explained - A Worthy Mention
Discipline Priest is a funny mention in my DPS tier list because it’s been put in D-Tier. But you can try it for fun. It’s played as a Smite Priest, and this offensive build can be interesting. Your rotation is built around the following:
Note: But Wand attacks no longer gain extra damage after you cast spells. This has been changed on October 26, 2026. You now have flat damage, which doesn’t scale with spells cast.
But don’t expect crazy numbers here. If making a direct comparison, it would be like this. Survival Hunter would be around 1,100-1,200 DPS, while the tested Smite/Discipline setup would be only around 500-600 DPS.
Its utility is obviously excellent. You still have Power Word: Shield, Priest buffs, Power Infusion, Penance, and the ability to heal. But that actually creates another problem: a Discipline healer can bring the same important utility while filling a healing slot.

F.A.Q.
What is the best DPS class in WoW Forever?
Both Survival Hunter and Demonology Warlock are the best DPS right now. They bring the highest raw damage and would be a great addition to any raid party.
What's the most powerful DPS in WoW Forever?
Survival Hunter is the best DPS and works perfectly for both single-target and AoE damage.
What’s the best melee DPS in terms of raw power in WoW Forever?
Survival Hunter is the strongest melee-oriented DPS based on the current numbers, although a lot of its damage still comes from ranged Auto Shots. If you want a more traditional melee spec, Fury Warrior is my pick because of its excellent cleave and scaling.
What is the best DPS race in WoW Forever?
Orc is especially good for Hunters and Warlocks because Command increases pet damage by 5%, while Troll Berserking is great for burst. On Alliance, Dwarf gets 1% Hit from Artisan’s Precision, and Human gets 1% Critical Strike from Ruthless.
Is Survival Hunter really that strong in WoW Forever?
Yes, Survival Hunter sits at the very top across all the tests and performs superbly strong in raids.
Which is the easiest DPS in WoW Forever?
Beast Mastery Hunter is one of the easiest DPS specs to play because so much of your damage comes from your pet.
Which DPS is hardest to master in WoW Forever?
Survival Hunter is one of the harder specs to execute perfectly because you’re weaving between ranged Auto Shots and melee abilities instead of simply staying at one range.
What DPS spec to pick as a solo player in WoW Forever?
I’d pick Demonology Warlock or Beast Mastery Hunter. Both rely heavily on pets, which makes solo leveling and open-world content much safer.
