WoW Forever Warrior Changes

Like other classes, Warrior isn’t being rebuilt from the ground up in Forever. Developers said that they try to stick to the original vision, only improving what was there, and it’s the case with Warrior. All rough parts of this class were addressed, such as better sustain while leveling and weaker class talents being removed or revamped. Fury has the most impactful indirect change because Rage generation itself now works differently. Below you’ll find a list of the biggest Warrior changes:

  • Rage Generation: Weapon damage no longer dictates how much Rage you get from every swing
  • Tactical Mastery is a Baseline: All Warrior specs keep some Rage when changing Stances
  • Victory Rush: After killing a non-trivial enemy, you can attack another target and heal for 10% of maximum Health
  • Rend Improvement: It now scales with Attack Power and can crit
  • Bloodthrill: Rend can activate Overpower
  • Improved Slam: Slam no longer interrupts your swing timings
  • Weaponmaster: Combines the old weapon specialization talents into one talent with different effects by weapon types
  • Spearing Strike: Arms gets an attack that deals bonus damage to Giants, Dragonkin, and mounted targets and can dismount players
  • Raging Blows: Lets Fury's Whirlwind strike with the off-hand weapon and makes Cleave cheaper
  • Enrage: Changed. Now activates from direct damage taken instead of only critical hits
  • Thunder Clap in Defensive Stance: Talent now works during Defensive Stance. Makes multi-target tanking much easier
  • Vanguard: Lets you Charge in Defensive Stance
  • Bastion: Improves damage when using a Shield
  • Master of Defense: Generates Rage from Dodge and Parry with a Shield
  • Defiance and Revenge changes: In short, it helps Protection keep threat as DPS players get stronger

Of all the talents added and changed, Victory Rush is possibly the most important one. Classic Warriors were hungry in the direct meaning of the word. After every few pulls that weren’t going the right way, they had to eat, so getting a repeatable 10% heal after kills solves one of the class’s most annoying early-game weaknesses without giving it full tank-level sustainability.

Warrior Pros and Cons in WoW Forever

Warrior is one of the strongest classes in WoW Forever thanks to its specs being actual in all kinds of play, including Raids and PvP. seems pretty easy and straightforward on paper. Aggro a mob and fight until one of you stops moving. The surface-level simplicity is deceitful. There’s a lot going on at the same time. You have to manage Rage, swap your Stances, and track who you need to interrupt. It’s nowhere near the level of Shaman’s tomfoolery, but it’s not as easy as you can imagine. Forever makes the class friendlier without getting rid of the class identity. There’s still a learning curve separating a good Warrior with good Rage discipline from a person who just presses Heroic Strike every time it’s off cooldown. If you want to play a Warrior, you gotta know what you’re signing up for:

Pros

Cons

Arms and Fury offer two different melee DPS styles

No ranged DPS spec

Protection is the strongest tank in the game. Arguably (not really)

Very gear and weapon dependent

Victory Rush makes it easier to sustain fights during leveling

Rage management has a learning curve

Strong interrupts and utility

Can’t self-heal apart from Victory Rush

Wide weapon choice

Melee uptime matters a lot

Strong cleave and Execute damage

Stance management can be hard to learn before you get it into your muscle memory

Accessible by all races

Early Fury leveling is harsh

Better Protection threat in Forever

Final endgame position is still uncertain

For me, the biggest downside of the Warrior is its gear dependency. If you find a decent decapitator, it feels great, but when you play with the same weapon for three zones and can’t upgrade, you’ll feel like dead weight. Considering what developers said about trying to make the game more horizontal in its progression, this might be bad for this class.

How to Play Warrior in WoW Forever

Warrior has three talent trees but only two actual roles. Arms and Fury are melee DPS, while Protection is the tank. All three use Rage as the main resource and share most of the Warrior skills. The main difference is how they generate and spend Rage and which weapons they utilize:

Specialization

Role

Playstyle

Arms

Melee DPS

2H weapon, Rend, Overpower, Mortal Strike, Execute

Fury

Melee DPS

Dual Wield, Bloodthirst, Whirlwind, Cleave

Protection

Tank

Shield, Revenge, Sunder Armor, Shield Block, Threat generation

How to Play Arms Warrior

Arms War hits slower, but harder. You probably guess the deal with Fury Warrior. Rend is much more important in Forever because it scales with Attack Power, it can crit, and can trigger Overpower with Bloodthrill. Mortal Strike is gonna be your main attack once you reach it in the skill tree, while Execute, well, executes enemies whose health drops below the threshold. Forever also makes changes to Slam, making it less wonky, and gives Arms Weaponmaster, so different weapon types have their own benefits instead of one weapon specialization that you’ll use till it makes you nauseous. If you decide to main Arms

How to Play Fury Warrior

Fury is the Dual Wield Warrior, and his whole shtick is hitting fast. It leans on constant melee pressure, Bloodthirst, Whirlwind, and cleave damage. Raging Blows makes Whirlwind attack with the off-hand weapon. Enrage now activates from direct damage taken. The hurdle you’ll have to learn to deal with is Rage. Now that Forever normalizes Rage generation, Fury no longer scales its resource generation just because your weapons have more damage and hit harder. You need to be more deliberate with what you spend as from my experience during beta, it’s really easy to go overboard. What worked on Classic doesn’t work in Forever, or at least not to that degree.

How to Play Protection Warrior

Protection is THE Warrior spec. Easily the best tank in WoW Forever. It’s also very straightforward. Equip a Shield, enter Defensive Stance, generate threat, and become the impenetrable wall that separates your party from the other side. Prot Warrior doesn’t receive a significant overhaul. Forever mainly fixes the places where Classic Protection was falling behind, especially Rage generation and threat scaling. Thunder Clap now works in Defensive Stance, talents add more threat and Attack Power scaling, and Shield talents give you more Rage from blocking, dodging, and parrying. This should make proper sword-and-board Protection much more relevant than the old Fury-Prot hybrid.

Best Warrior Race in WoW Forever (WIP)

This section is so tiny cause I want to wait for the full game release before making calls. Warrior has the biggest race selection possible because every race, including Skyborne, can play it. Forever also reworks weapon racials and several active abilities, so it’s a bit more nuanced than the old “Human Alliance, Orc Horde”. I mean, Orc is still the best race for Warrior, but you have more options now. Orc works very well with Fury, while Night Elf is a great alternative if you want to play for Alliance. For beta, I’d go with Orc for Horde DPS.

Warrior Stat Priority in WoW Forever (WIP)

Don’t lock in final stat priorities before level 60 gear and raid tuning are properly tested. This section is under construction. The reason is that Forever changes weapon skills, Hit, and Rage scaling, so copying a Vanilla Warrior stat list one-to-one can work, but will probably be suboptimal. Weapon damage and Strength remain priorities for DPS specs, and on Protection you should focus on defensive stats.

Spec

Current Stat Direction

Arms

Weapon Damage → Hit → Strength → Critical Strike

Fury

Weapon Damage → Hit → Strength → Critical Strike

Protection

Defense/survivability → Hit → Strength

Weapon upgrades deserve special attention for Arms and Fury. Even if another item has better secondary stats, a substantial jump in weapon damage is usually much more preferred.

Best Warrior Builds in WoW Forever (WIP)

Warrior sees some changes to its talent trees, which are significant enough for me to wait it out before writing about its best builds. I don’t think that we’ll see a huge change in builds, though. Most newly added talents are more quality-of-life rather than new key abilities. For now, Arms interests me the most for general gameplay, because Forever improves both its leveling and its previously awkward abilities. Before I get carried away with this discussion, I’ll just say that this section will be done in November with the release of the game.

Warrior Leveling Guide in WoW Forever

Though I’m a Fury player, I gotta admit that leveling as Arms is easier. In current beta testing, Arms leveling feels considerably better than Vanilla Warrior thanks to Victory Rush. You might want to check out this Legacy System guide, specifically the Adventure part for Arms War leveling. Fury is a nightmare to level early on, don’t repeat my mistakes. Protection is good if you’re a group player or plan to run dungeons often, though Forever has much less focus on constant dungeoneering:

Spec

Solo Leveling

Dungeon Leveling

My Opinion

Arms

Excellent

Good DPS

Best overall for leveling

Fury

Weak early

Good

Better once you get enough talents

Protection

Safe, but slow

Excellent

Best for dungeon tanks

While leveling:

  • Upgrade your weapon constantly
  • Use Charge whenever possible for opening Rage
  • Keep Battle Shout active
  • Maintain Rend when the enemy will live long enough
  • Use Victory Rush after kills for free healing
  • Save Rage instead of dumping Heroic Strike nonstop
  • Keep a Shield in your bags even as DPS
  • Learn to swap Stances instead of using just one
  • Use Hamstring on enemies that try to run
  • Use Pummel against dangerous casts

Warrior is gear-dependent, but in Forever it’s much less miserable when you hit a stretch without perfect equipment. I can’t stop praising Victory Rush, cause it alone makes chaining normal enemies much less punishing.

Warrior Best-in-Slot Gear in WoW Forever (WIP)

Unlike other WIP sections, I’m not even gonna write anything here. Return on release on November 4th, and I’ll have ready builds for you to use.

Best Warrior Rotations in WoW Forever

Warrior rotations are really Rage priorities. You overspend = you starve yourself of damage when a stronger ability comes up. If you hoard too much, you waste potential damage. A constant balancing act. Stance requirements also mean you’ll need to move between Battle, Berserker, and Defensive Stance.

Arms Warrior Rotation

  1. Open with Charge
  2. Maintain Rend
  3. Use Mortal Strike
  4. Use Overpower when available
  5. Use Slam as a Rage spender
  6. Use Execute below 20%
  7. Use Sweeping Strikes for cleave
  8. Use Pummel when you need an interrupt

Bloodthrill gives Rend a chance to open Overpower, so keeping the bleed active becomes a crucial part of the rotation. Don’t sleep on it.

Fury Warrior Rotation

  1. Activate Battle Shout
  2. Use Bloodthirst
  3. Use Whirlwind for multiple targets
  4. Use Cleave for cleave when Rage allows
  5. Maintain relevant buffs and Enrage effects
  6. Use Execute below 20%
  7. Avoid spending Rage just because you have some

Raging Blows makes Whirlwind better by letting the off-hand strike too, which is one of the key changes for Fury Warrior as it bumps up your DPS. Fury’s main challenge is knowing when you can afford extra Rage spenders with the new system. I’m a bit rusty as a Warrior, so I’m still getting comfortable with it.

Protection Warrior Rotation

  1. Stay in Defensive Stance
  2. Use Shield Block when taking melee damage
  3. Maintain Sunder Armor
  4. Use Revenge whenever available
  5. Use Thunder Clap against multiple enemies
  6. Use Shield Slam when talented
  7. Use Cleave when Rage allows
  8. Use Demoralizing Shout to reduce incoming melee damage
  9. Use Taunt when something decides the Mage looks tastier

Protection should have a much easier time controlling packs because Thunder Clap now works directly in Defensive Stance and several talents improve Rage generation.

Best Warrior Professions in WoW Forever

Warrior has one profession pairing: Blacksmithing + Mining. The class almost begs for it. It is good for early armor, later armor, and of course you can craft weapons without relying on lucky RNG drops. Basically, you get more out of Blacksmithing than, I’d say, all other classes. Engineering and Alchemy are also some of the best professions for the Warrior, depending on whether you prefer utility or consumables.

Best Warrior Consumables in WoW Forever (WIP)

Forever adds 600 recipes and reworks enough of them that I physically can’t tell you about the best consumables for Warrior. As a DPS, you obviously need Strength, Attack Power, and Health buffs, while Protection will benefit from survivability over pure damage.

F.A.Q

Is Warrior good in WoW Forever?

Yes. Arms and Fury cover melee DPS while Protection remains one of the most complete tanks. Forever also improves Warrior’s leveling sustain and fixes several weak or awkward talents.

What is the best Warrior spec for leveling in WoW Forever?

I’d choose Arms. Current testing shows much smoother leveling than Vanilla Warrior, helped by stronger Rend, better two-handed weapons, and Victory Rush.

What is the best Warrior tank spec in WoW Forever?

Protection is the dedicated tank tree. Forever improves its Rage generation, threat scaling, and multi-target control without changing its core Shield-based gameplay.

How does Warrior’s Rage work in WoW Forever?

Rage generation is normalized, meaning auto-attack Rage no longer scales directly with the damage dealt by each swing. Fury in particular has to be more careful with Rage because better gear no longer automatically produces much more of it.

Does Warrior have self-healing in WoW Forever?

Yes. Victory Rush becomes available after killing a non-trivial enemy and heals the Warrior for 10% of maximum Health when used, making solo leveling much easier.

Is Fury or Arms better in WoW Forever?

They fill the same DPS role in different ways. Arms uses a two-handed weapon and focuses on heavier attacks, Rend, and Overpower, while Fury dual-wields and leans harder into Bloodthirst, Whirlwind, and cleave.
