Best Ways to Make Gold in WoW Forever

Infographic with the Best Ways to Make Gold in WoW Forever

Throughout the beta, I’ve tried and tested many gold farms in Forever just to understand the reality. There isn’t one best way to earn money in this game. The method you stick to depends on how much you’re ready to spend and if you want guaranteed income here and now or later, with a larger return. These are the best ways to make gold in WoW Forever so far:

  1. Gathering Professions
  2. Mob Farming
  3. Fishing
  4. Crafting Professions
  5. Questing / Dungeons
  6. Alt Farming
  7. Auction House Flipping
  8. Investing

Beginning with raw farming or gathering is always a good start before you switch to crafting and longer-term investments in the end. I’ll go over each of these ways in more detail now to let you decide which one you want to stick to.

Note: Your first major gold targets are Riding. Based on the current Forever values, you should have around 100 gold ready for Apprentice Riding at level 40 and another 1,000 gold for Journeyman Riding at level 60. I’d keep these numbers in mind while leveling rather than spending every gold you make on profession materials or Auction House flips.

Gathering Professions

When saying gathering, I mean you use gathering professions to start your gold journey in Forever. It works as cleanly as manual mob farming and converts your playtime directly into materials you sell later on the Auction House. The professions I’m talking about include these three ones:

  • Herbalism
  • Mining
  • Skinning

You spend almost nothing to learn any of those gathering professions, yet the amount of gold you can make with them at launch is immense. I always go for gathering profs as the main source of gold during early expansion launches in WoW, and Forever isn’t an exception here.

Herbalism

Herbalism can become very profitable once you reach the higher-level zones. There you can farm the following materials:

Black Lotus should be the priority from this list, but expect a ton of other players to be there. You’re not likely to reliably farm Black Lotus itself. The same can be said about Plaguebloom and Gromsblood, but they’re at least less popular.

Mining

Mining is similar to Herbalism, and you can use the higher demand for ore early on to make a ton of gold. Those players specializing in Blacksmithing and Engineering are your guys. They’ll try to level up their profs ASAP, too, and they’ll never do that without buying enough ore from people like you.

I would pay extra attention to low- and mid-level materials early in the server. Players often rush past things like Copper, Iron, Mithril, and Thorium once they reach higher zones, but those materials are still required by thousands of players leveling professions afterward. That creates plenty of demand even after you personally stop needing them.

Skinning

Skinning is the most straightforward choice out of all three gathering professions here. You don’t need to look for a particular zone or search for a rare node. You simply keep leveling as you would always do and skin beasts after you take them down.

It works particularly well while leveling because you’re already killing the mobs anyway. That means Leather is essentially additional value from something you would have done for XP. I wouldn’t call Skinning the highest ceiling profession, but it’s hard to make it completely useless.

Mob Farming

When it comes to mob farming, you can’t think of a simpler method to make gold in WoW Forever. But I highly recommend that you target mobs with more valuable loot tables. Humanoids are especially useful in that regard. They usually drop these:

  • Raw Gold
  • Cloth
  • Green Items
  • Recipes
  • Consumables
  • Rare BoEs

As for the rest, you have nothing to think about. Just keep taking down mobs manually and loot everything you find, including gold. Later on, I’ll share the best spots where you can farm gold insanely fast after you reach level 60 in Forever. So far, there’s this one in Dire Maul East I’ll go over in the next section of the guide.

Dire Maul East Farming

When farming mobs in Dire Maul East, I’d focus on Satyrs specifically. They can provide things such as Felcloth and Demonic Runes, and other parts of the dungeon can contain useful herbs. I don’t recommend you targeting a specific drop here. But you have a wide loot table to focus on there, from Felcloth drops to a variety of herbs. Also, you might find a green or rare recipe drop there, too.

Fishing for Gold

Fishing deserves its own mention because it works differently from normal gathering. It’s slower, but it requires very little attention. I personally go for Fishing when I’m watching something on another monitor or talking to friends in Discord. It allows me to convert otherwise idle time into materials to sell later. With Fishing, you get the following:

  • Cooking
  • Alchemy
  • Raid Consumables
  • Certain Specialty Recipes

This is especially useful when a specific fish becomes part of a popular consumable. But your gold per hour is usually limited by how many casts you can physically make. This is a good chill side income, but don’t go fishing as the fastest way to get rich.

Crafting Professions

Now, look at making gold in WoW Forever from the side of those who’re using crafting professions. I’ve already told you how you make money with gathering profs. But crafting professions bring this to a whole new level if you know which ones to go for and what to craft. These are crafting professions I’d recommend to go for faster gold making in Forever:

  • Alchemy
  • Blacksmithing
  • Engineering
  • Enchanting
  • Leatherworking
  • Tailoring

When creating anything with these profs, I usually use the following formula.

Selling price - material cost - Auction House costs = profit

Materials you farm yourself aren’t free. If you could sell those herbs for 50 gold, using them to craft something worth 40 gold means you lost 10 gold.

Alchemy

Alchemy is arguably the best profession to make gold in WoW Forever. At least among the crafting ones, for sure. The reason for this is that consumables you create are always needed. Players don’t buy one potion and keep it forever. They drink it and need another. I’m talking about:

  • Potions
  • Elixirs
  • Protection consumables
  • Transmutes

A simple example is Greater Fire Protection Potion. Check the price of the reagents and how much is one potion, too. If the potion sells for more than the total material cost after fees, craft it.

Enchanting

Enchanting is less straightforward because you can’t simply mass-list every enchant like a potion. A lot of your money comes from rare recipes and services. One example from the transcript is +4 Stats to Chest.

If you obtain a rare high-demand formula before most players on your server, you can advertise that enchant repeatedly in Trade Chat and charge a fee or collect tips. Depending on the recipe and server maturity, those tips can range from a couple of gold to much more.

Questing

Finishing quests is actually one of the easiest and fastest ways to make raw gold when you’re making your way to level 60, too. In Classic-style WoW, once your character can no longer gain XP, eligible quest experience gets converted into extra gold. That means all those high-level quests you skipped and leveling suddenly become much more interesting. Do the following once you reach level 60:

  • Finish remaining high-level zone quests
  • Pick up dungeon quests
  • Complete quest chains you skipped
  • Vendor or sell unwanted rewards

This isn’t an infinite source of gold, of course. But this might be enough for you to get capital at level 60 to start crafting and flipping, for example.

Dungeons

Another simple method is running dungeons with friends even when you don’t specifically need gear. It’s quite similar to usual mob farming I’ve gone over already. You’ll collect the following items when running dungeons in WoW Forever:

  • Raw Gold
  • Cloth
  • Greens
  • BoEs
  • Recipes
  • Crafting Materials

You can then sell higher-cost items and split the gold with your group. The second approach is especially useful with expensive BoEs. You’re basically getting paid while doing content you might have wanted to play anyway. This isn’t necessarily the highest gold-per-hour strategy, but it’s one of the least painful because it doesn’t feel like farming.

Alt Farming

Your best raiding professions and your best goldmaking professions don’t always match. For example, you might want two crafting professions on your main because they provide useful raid benefits. That leaves you with no Herbalism or Mining. But you can go for another character that focuses on gathering only.

A common Classic example is leveling a Mage alt because Mage is extremely efficient at farming packs of mobs. You can also simply give the alt:

  • Herbalism + Mining
  • Mining + Skinning
  • Herbalism + Skinning

It takes time to level the character, but afterward you have a permanent farming tool instead of constantly dropping and relearning professions.

Auction House Flipping

Flipping means buying something cheaply and reselling it relatively soon for more. Your profit largely depends on the market and what happens. It can be anything from 20% to 40% or so. Good buying windows can include quest mornings or late nights. Buying during off-days also works.

Then sell around:

  • Raid evenings
  • Content launches
  • PvP activity
  • Profession rushes

It’s a basic rule of supply and demand. You’ll get better at this once you practice more. But this method requires gold to try, and you might lose most of it if you flip wrong. I particularly like flipping with items like this:

Other stuff works as well, but someone may need gold immediately and list a Staff of Jordan far below its normal value. You then get it and repost later to make an extra 100 gold or so.

Investing in WoW Forever

Investing is the opposite way of making gold in WoW Forever compared to Auction House flipping. Instead of buying something today and selling tomorrow, you buy because you expect its demand or value to increase weeks or months later. Two things drive this:

  • Inflation
  • Future Demand

A fresh server has almost no gold. Months later, thousands of quests, mob drops, and other sources have pumped currency into the economy.

BRD Pickpocket Farming

Rogues have another specialized option in Blackrock Depths. Instead of killing everything, you can move through humanoid packs and use Pick Pocket. This gives Rogue players access to a gold farm that many other classes simply cannot copy as efficiently. You’re converting class utility directly into raw coins and items. I wouldn’t level a Rogue purely for this unless you already wanted one, but if Rogue is your main or alt anyway, it’s another tool you have available.

Waylaid Crates Gold Method in WoW Forever

Another Forever-specific way to use gathered materials is through Waylaid Crates. These can drop while you’re playing in the open world and ask for specific profession materials or crafted items.

Fill the crate and turn it in to the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics to earn Merchant’s Favor, which you can spend on profession recipes and other rewards. Before selling everything on the Auction House, I’d check if you still need Favor or a recipe from these vendors, because sometimes progression can be worth more than the immediate gold.

F.A.Q.

What is the fastest way to make gold in WoW Forever?

At launch, gathering and mob farming are probably the easiest fast options because they require almost no starting capital. Later, profitable crafting and Auction House flipping can scale much higher.

What are the best professions for making gold in WoW Forever?

These are the best profs to make gold in the game by either crafting or gathering:

  • Alchemy
  • Herbalism
  • Mining
  • Skinning

Is Fishing good for gold in WoW Forever?

Yes, especially if you want a low-effort farming method. Fishing usually won’t beat the best active farming routes, but it lets you make gold when doing something else at the same time.

Can First Aid make gold in WoW Forever?

Sometimes. If cloth is cheap enough, you can craft it into bandages with a higher vendor value and sell the finished items directly to an NPC. The margins are small, but the sale is guaranteed.

Can you make gold with Enchanting in WoW Forever?

Disenchanting can be profitable, but rare formulas are where Enchanting becomes much more valuable. If you’re one of the few players who can craft an important enchant, you can repeatedly charge fees or collect tips.

Is Auction House flipping worth it in WoW Forever?

Yes, but you need good price knowledge. Always account for the Auction House cut, deposits, sale rate, and how long your gold may stay tied up in an item.

Should I level an alt for gold farming in WoW Forever?

It can be worth it if your main needs two crafting professions. A gathering or farming alt lets you keep the optimal profession setup on your main without giving up access to Mining, Herbalism, or other farms.

What should I invest in for WoW Forever?

Look for limited-supply materials, future raid reagents, rare recipes, and useful items trading close to vendor value. The best investments are usually items people don’t need yet but are likely to need later.
