WoW Forever Enchanting Guide Quick Overview:
- Enchanting levels from 1 to 300, with Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, and Artisan ranks.
- The current WoW Forever Enchanting leveling route takes around 413 crafts from 1-300.
- Enchanting gets 64 new recipes in Forever, including new weapon enchants, Wands, Staves, Off-Hands, and class Relics.
- Most Enchanting materials come from Disenchanting Uncommon or better gear, so you don’t need a gathering profession.
- Tailoring is the best profession to pair with Enchanting because you can craft cheap gear and Disenchant it for materials.
Don’t feel like turning several hundred perfectly serviceable items into colorful piles of dust? Skycoach’s WoW Forever Professions Boost & Carry can handle the profession grind while you do something that doesn’t involve enchanting the same pair of bracers 40 times.

WoW Forever Enchanting Changes

Enchanting works the same at its core as it did in Classic: you Disenchant gear into Dust, Essences, and Shards and then use those materials to permanently improve equipment. WoW Forever doesn’t mess with that formula too much, which is a good thing, but the actual profession has been expanded by quite a lot. The launch client currently contains 64 new Enchanting recipes, and Enchanters can now make not only regular enchants and oils but also Wands, Staves, Off-Hands, Idols, Totems, and Librams. Some of the most important WoW Forever Enchanting changes include:
- New crafted gear: Enchanters can craft Wands, Staves, Off-Hands, and class-specific Relics.
- New Mote of Magic material: Dust to Motes converts 1 Strange Dust into 3 Motes of Magic, which are used in your earliest recipes.
- New weapon and gear enchants: Forever adds additional Agility, Healing Power, Spell Power, Strength, necklace, bracer, glove, and weapon enchants.
- New Enchanted materials: At 250, Enchanters can produce Enchanted Leather and Enchanted Thorium Bars for other professions.
- Merchant’s Favor formulas: A lot of the new recipes come through Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics progression.
- Camping features: Enchanting gets Enchanted Lute, Arcane Salvager, and Arcane Forge.
The camping progression is actually pretty useful here:
|
Camp Feature |
Enchanting Skill |
Effect |
|
Enchanted Lute |
20 |
Provides increased Armor, All Stats, and Resistances |
|
Arcane Salvager |
140 |
Improves Disenchanting and keeps the Lute buffs |
|
Arcane Forge |
300 |
Enables recipes that require an Arcane Forge and keeps the Lute buffs |
The Arcane Salvager is the standout for me. More efficient Disenchanting is basically free money whenever you’re feeding unwanted gear into the profession anyway. One small change worth mentioning: common and uncommon crafted Wands now sell to vendors for 1 copper, so the old trick of crafting Wands specifically to vendor them is dead. Blizzard clearly saw us coming.
Leveling Enchanting in WoW Forever
Enchanting is historically one of the best professions in WoW Forever, so that doesn’t change here. The nice thing about WoW Forever Enchanting leveling is that the current Classic recipe skill-up thresholds mostly survived intact, so this profession doesn’t have the same “old guide suddenly stops working” problem as Blacksmithing. The current launch-client route has 11 steps and takes around 413 crafts from 1 to 300 on average. Yellow and green recipes aren’t guaranteed to give you a skill point, so your actual number can vary a little depending on RNG. Enchanting also requires different Runed Rods as you progress. Don’t throw the old ones away. Just keep them in your bags and save yourself the classic “why won’t this recipe craft” moment. Here’s the WoW Forever Enchanting 1-300 leveling route:

This route assumes that you make the required Rods along the way. Your first Runed Copper Rod needs a Copper Rod and one Mote of Magic. At around 135, make a Runed Silver Rod using a Silver Rod, 3 Strange Dust, 4 Lesser Magic Essence, and a Shadowgem. Later comes the Runed Golden Rod with a Golden Rod, Iridescent Pearl, Greater Astral Essence, and Soul Dust, followed by the Runed Truesilver Rod using a Truesilver Rod, Black Pearl, Greater Mystic Essence, and Vision Dust. You also have three training reminders that you absolutely shouldn’t ignore:
- Train Journeyman before going past 75. It requires 50 Enchanting and character level 10.
- Train Expert before going past 150. It requires 125 Enchanting and character level 20.
- Train Artisan before going past 225. It requires 200 Enchanting and character level 35.
Expert is taught by Kitta Firewind in Elwynn Forest for Alliance and Hgarth in Stonetalon Mountains for Horde. Artisan is a little more annoying because you need Annora inside Uldaman, because apparently visiting a normal trainer would’ve been too convenient. Two formulas in the leveling route also need a little preparation. Formula: Enchant Cloak - Minor Agility is sold by vendors in Ashenvale and Stonetalon Mountains, while Formula: Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina comes from Mythrin’dir in Darnassus for Alliance or Daniel Bartlett in Undercity for Horde. The latter has limited vendor stock, so buy it when you see it rather than waiting until you’re already at 296.

The 12 Strange Dust already includes what you need to make 27 Motes of Magic using Dust to Motes. One Strange Dust creates three Motes, so nine of those Dust are converted while the other three go into your Runed Silver Rod. Simple Wood and the basic Copper Rod are vendor items, so don’t pay some entrepreneurial genius 400% Auction House markup for them. Most of the actual Dust, Essences, and Shards should come from Disenchanting gear or other players. The Silver, Golden, and Truesilver Rods are normally supplied by Blacksmiths, which is one of those little profession dependencies Forever wants you to actually interact with other players for. Unlike the Blacksmithing shopping list, this one doesn’t look too terrifying on paper. The catch is that Enchanting materials don’t come from a node you can intentionally farm in the same straightforward way. If Greater Nether Essence is expensive on your realm, you either pay the Auction House price or start feeding gear into Disenchant and hope it gives you what you need.
Disenchanting in WoW Forever
Disenchanting is what makes Enchanting weird compared to most crafting professions. Instead of pairing it with Mining or Herbalism and running around collecting nodes, you turn Uncommon or better equipment into enchanting materials. You can actually gain your first chunk of Enchanting skill simply by Disenchanting items, and Wowhead recommends it as a perfectly reasonable way to reach roughly the first 40 skill points while building up materials for later crafts. That means you shouldn’t automatically vendor every green item you replace while leveling. Check what its Disenchanting materials are worth first. Sometimes the vendor price is better, sometimes turning the item into Dust or Essence is considerably more profitable. Enchanting is basically the profession where one man’s garbage really is another man’s Strange Dust. At 140 Enchanting, the Arcane Salvager campsite feature makes this even better by enabling more efficient Disenchanting. If you’re serious about leveling Enchanting or making gold from it, I’d grab that recipe as soon as possible.

Making Gold with Enchanting in WoW Forever
Enchanting should remain one of the better professions for making gold because its customers never really go away. People constantly replace gear, and every new upgrade is another opportunity to sell them an enchant. You can either provide the materials yourself and charge for the whole thing or have another player bring the reagents and take a crafting fee or tip. The best ways to make gold with Enchanting in WoW Forever are:
- Rare enchant formulas: The harder an enchant is to obtain, the fewer people you compete with.
- Weapon Oils: These are consumable, which means players have to keep buying more.
- Disenchanting: Cheap unwanted gear can sometimes be worth more as Dust, Essence, or Shards.
- New crafted gear: Forever lets Enchanters make Wands, Staves, Off-Hands, and Relics.
- Merchant’s Favor recipes: Some of the new weapon, necklace, bracer, glove, and Off-Hand enchants cost 45, 120, or 240 Merchant’s Favor to unlock, limiting competition early on.
I’d especially watch the new high-level formulas early in Forever. Enchants like Mighty Spell Power, Mighty Healing Power, Greater Spellpower, Superior Strength, and Off-Hand Wisdom are expensive recipes tied to Merchant’s Favor, but that’s exactly what gives them money-making potential. If ten Enchanters on the server know a recipe instead of a thousand, you’re suddenly in a much better position.
Best Profession to Pair with Enchanting in WoW Forever
Tailoring is the best profession to pair with Enchanting for one simple reason: it gives you gear to Disenchant. Cloth is everywhere, Tailoring turns that cloth into equipment, and Enchanting turns the equipment into more Dust, Essences, and Shards. That process is usually called an Enchanting Shuffle. Other crafting professions can technically do the same thing, but Tailoring doesn’t need a gathering profession feeding it ore, herbs, or leather, which makes the combination much easier to sustain on one character. I’d go Tailoring + Enchanting unless another character already handles your crafted items. It’s simple, self-sufficient, and both professions make sense on the same caster character anyway.
