WoW Forever Blacksmithing Changes

Blacksmithing hasn’t changed in its core. It still works the same as it did in Classic. You get a hammer, find metal, find an anvil, and start crafting. The thing that makes Blacksmithing so enticing to learn is that you can craft most weapons in the game, as well as sharpening stones, which are the things that every DPS wants. So in that way, Blacksmithing in WoW Forever isn’t a reimagining of the profession, it’s just a beefed-up version of it from Classic. The biggest WoW Forever Blacksmithing changes lie in:
- New leveling gear: There are more Mail and Plate crafts throughout leveling
- New endgame materials: Heavy Thorium Bar, Azerothium Bar, and Legionite Bar are used in new level 60 recipes
- New high-end gear: Additional armor and weapons using the materials above alongside Essences, gems, leather, and other rare reagents, which makes you interact with other professions more and further develops the Forever’s vision of making the game more social again
- Merchant’s Favor recipes: Blacksmithing gets new plans through the Azeroth Commerce Authority and Durotar Supply and Logistics systems
- Changed skill-up thresholds: You can’t just use an old Classic guide to get 1-300 cause some of the recipes stop raising the skill earlier than they used to
- Camping features: Blacksmithing gets its own progression of campsite stations
The campsite additions are definitely the biggest innovation for professions that was brought to Forever. Here’s what you can do in camp as a Blacksmith:
|
Camp Feature |
Blacksmithing Skill |
Effect |
|
Sharpening Wheel |
20 |
Provides a Strength camp buff |
|
Anvil |
140 |
Keeps the buff and lets you work in camp |
|
Master Forge |
300 |
Works as a portable Anvil/Forge for high-level crafting |
That last part is especially convenient cause you no longer have to travel half of Azeroth just to get to the Forge, and with increasingly complex recipes, it was easy to lose track of what materials you needed at the moment and what you wanted to make, especially when it was the only thing you dedicated your gaming session to.
Leveling Blacksmithing in WoW Forever
There’s no use in trying to level Blacksmithing only after you have reached level 60. First of all, you’re stripping yourself of amazing gear that you can make for yourself. Second of all, professions are now essential for progression. Treat it like it’s a secondary class of your character and level it up at the same time as you level your character. Another important point is that you shouldn’t follow old Classic leveling guides cause in Forever they’re redundant. They’re too different, and you’ll only waste materials. In the table below, the crafts column shows the safe amount of crafts. Safe means that with this number of crafts you’ll reach the needed Blacksmithing level with a 100% chance. Be sure to change materials accordingly. Here’s the exact progression path you want to follow for Blacksmithing Leveling in WoW Forever 1-300:

Train Journeyman before 75, which requires 50 Blacksmithing and character level 10. Train Expert before 150, which requires 125 Blacksmithing and level 20. Finally, train Artisan before 225 once you have 200 Blacksmithing and level 35. If you forget and keep crafting while capped, all you’re doing is setting fire to your materials. Don’t forget that there’s still an element of RNG in crafting, so sometimes you’ll reach the needed level faster, sometimes later. The next section shows a shopping list and how much gold you’ll spend to get all the materials and recipes.
WoW Forever Blacksmithing Shopping List
Below is the shopping list that will get you from level 1 to 300. The numbers below already account for intermediate parts being crafted along the way. As you know, the amount of materials you need can vary depending on RNG, so for some it might be less, for others more. The amount I present below is the safest amount that you will need. Most likely you’ll have some leftovers after getting to 300 Skill level, but better that than spending your time running back and forth to the auction. Here’s a WoW Forever Blacksmithing shopping list:

And yeah, 1392 Mithril Bars on average is not a typo. This shopping list is also the main reason I recommend pairing the profession with Mining unless you have another character supplying materials. Most recipes in the route come directly from Blacksmithing trainers, but the last part requires several vendor recipes:
- Ebon Shiv: Magnus Frostwake (/way 68.1 77.5) in Western Plaguelands
- Bold Dirk: Pexmit (/way 61.8 52.6) in Mount Hyjal
- Ornate Thorium Handaxe: Magnus Frostwake (/way 68.1 77.5) in Western Plaguelands.
- Goregasher Grips: Vargus (/way 51.2 38.8) in Silithus.
- Goregasher Support: Vargus (/way 51.2 38.8) in Silithus.
- Girdle of the Dawn: Quartermaster Miranda Breechlock (/way 75.8 54.0) in Eastern Plaguelands.
The route becomes noticeably more expensive after 250 Blacksmithing. You go from Mithril crafts into Arcanite, Truesilver, Thorium, Azerothium, Enchanted Thorium, and Elemental Essences, while Goregasher crafts also require your Master Forge. This is the part where you spend the most gold.
Blacksmithing Specializations in WoW Forever
With Blacksmithing, you need to make an important decision about going the Armorsmith or Weaponsmith route. Weaponsmith can later specialize further into Axesmith, Hammersmith, or Swordsmith, so on paper this is a more varied spec. Consider that Weaponsmith covers only one or two gear slots, whereas Armorsmith has access to way more recipes and thus can make more gold. Here’s how to choose a Blacksmithing specialization in WoW Forever:
|
Specialization |
Focus |
|
Armorsmith |
Plate armor |
|
Weaponsmith |
High-end weapons |
|
Master Axesmith |
Axes |
|
Master Hammersmith |
Maces and hammers |
|
Master Swordsmith |
Swords |
For me, Armorsmith looks like an optimal choice, and it’s especially obvious if you need Plate gear for yourself, especially if you’re a Warrior or Paladin. Weaponsmith makes more sense if weapons are your main priority or you want to make money from expensive crafts. Bear in mind that Weaponsmith is longer and takes more input from you.

Making Gold with Blacksmithing in Forever
Blacksmithing can make good gold, but it isn’t Mining. With mining, you just walk to the nearest node, hit it, and voila, you have something sellable. Blacksmithing is slower, and making a quick buck isn’t as quick as with other professions. Your profit depends on buying or gathering materials cheaply and turning them into something players are willing to pay more for. The best Blacksmithing money makers are generally:
- Leveling gear: Forever adds more usable Mail and Plate equipment, and fresh characters always need upgrades
- Weapons and consumables: Good weapons, Sharpening Stones, and Weightstones have consistent demand
- Rare and specialization recipes: The fewer Blacksmiths who know the recipe, the better your margins usually are
- Endgame Forever crafts: New Heavy Thorium, Azerothium, and Legionite gear should be especially valuable while materials and recipes are still difficult to obtain
Basically, try to target rarer recipes for crafting. Crafting widespread loot that every other blacksmith can craft isn’t the move in WoW. It’s not real life. Merchant’s Favor recipes are also worth watching because Azeroth Commerce Authority and Durotar Supply and Logistics unlock additional crafting plans. Early in a server’s lifespan, new recipes tend to be significantly more profitable simply because fewer people have access to them. This concerns materials as well, so you really want to pair Blacksmithing with Mining. What a segue.
Best Profession to Pair with Blacksmithing in WoW Forever
Mining is easily the best Blacksmithing pairing. You need bars, ore, and stone constantly, and gathering your own materials saves a huge amount of gold. This becomes even more important near launch when everyone is leveling professions simultaneously, and Mithril costs like it was mined on the Moon. Engineering is another option if you have a Mining alt or enough gold to fund both professions. Blacksmithing and Engineering complement each other nicely in terms of gear and utility, but they also need many of the same materials. Running both without your own supply of ore will run your pocket dry pretty quickly. For most characters, go Mining + Blacksmithing and save yourself the headache.
F.A.Q.
Is Blacksmithing good in WoW Forever?
Yes. Forever gives Blacksmithing more leveling gear, new level 60 recipes, campsite utility, and additional endgame materials. It should be especially useful for Warriors and Paladins, although making gold from rare plans is relevant to any class.
What is the best profession to pair with Blacksmithing in WoW Forever?
Mining is easily the best choice because Blacksmithing consumes huge amounts of metal and stone. Gathering your own materials makes the profession significantly cheaper to level.
What is the best Blacksmithing specialization in WoW Forever?
There’s no single best choice. Armorsmith is better if you care primarily about Plate gear, while Weaponsmith is the obvious option if high-end weapons are your priority.
How do you level Blacksmithing to 300 in WoW Forever?
Use cheap Stones and Copper crafts early, move into Bronze, Iron, and Mithril during the middle levels, then switch to Dense Stone and Thorium-based crafts near 300. Recipe colors matter in Forever, so don’t rely completely on old Classic leveling routes.
What does Blacksmithing add to Campsites in WoW Forever?
Blacksmithing unlocks a Sharpening Wheel at 20 skill, an Anvil at 140, and a Master Forge at 300. These provide campsite utility and eventually let you use portable Blacksmithing crafting stations.
