WoW Forever Tailoring Guide Quick Overview:
- Tailoring has a lot of new specialized crafting options that enable you to craft gear for any magic playstyle.
- Tailoring is at its best when it comes to creating leveling gear for Priests, Mages, and Warlocks, which are also the best classes for this profession.
- Tailoring is best paired with Enchanting since it doesn’t require a gathering profession and its crafted gear can be disenchanted for extra Enchanting materials.

WoW Forever Tailoring Changes

In WoW Forever, Tailoring’s baseline remains the same: it is a crafting profession that enables you to turn cloth into various gear and bags. The main difference comes from all the new item recipes that come with Forever, expanding your crafting capabilities by a lot, especially when it comes to leveling gear.
Another major change is the introduction of the Camping system. Tailors get to craft a Faction Banner, which increases Spirit and can be further upgraded into a Spinning Wheel and a Loom, serving as crafting stations.
Leveling Tailoring in Forever
When it comes to leveling, Tailoring works pretty much like any other crafting profession: creating gear provides you with skill ups, which enables you to make better gear, which also gets more costly.
Overall, there are four different tiers of items based on how they affect your Tailoring progression:
- Orange recipes guarantee a skill up every time you craft them.
- Yellow recipes offer a decent chance of providing a skill point, which slowly decreases as you get closer to the green tier.
- Green recipes provide a low chance of getting a skill point, which gets even lower as you get closer to the grey tier.
- Gray recipes with no arrow indicators provide no skill points, no matter how many items you craft.
Unlike many other crafting professions, Tailoring is self-sufficient and doesn’t require pairing itself with a gathering profession. All sorts of cloth you need will drop from (mostly) humanoid enemies, so you don’t need to juggle two professions to ensure that you can sustain your demand for higher-end materials. However, you’ll still need to buy some stuff for your crafts, since they can involve Alchemical and other types of ingredients.
Here’s a variant of an effective progression path to get you from 1 to 300 in Tailoring while not wasting too many resources.

Tailoring Pattern Sets in Forever

As I’ve mentioned earlier, in Forever, you don’t get Tailoring Specializations. Instead, Tailors are provided with a whole bunch of Pattern Sets they can craft throughout their leveling journey to become stronger. These are designed to be extremely versatile, so that they fit any build from full-on Healers to DPS.
Unfortunately, you aren’t able to sell any of these since they are all Bind-on-pickup. That limits your Tailoring Class choice significantly, since non-magic users won’t need any of these items, while basically all magic users would want to get their hands on these strong leveling tools.
Some of the recipes for these items can drop in the world, while others require interacting with the Azeroth Commerce Authority/Durotar Supply and Logistics. From what I’ve seen so far, Merchant’s Favor is very important for Tailoring in particular due to how many of these recipes are locked behind these factions, so make sure to dedicate enough time and attention to these.
Finally, there are also Filigreed versions of recipes that are only obtainable from Dungeon Bosses, like Filigreed Pearly Gown, or Filigreed Silky Leggings. These are probably going to be very valuable, so going for them at every opportunity makes a lot of sense.

Making Gold with Tailoring in Forever
That said, how exactly can you make money with your Tailoring profession? Well, there are actually multiple ways to do that.
First off, Tailoring opens you up to a great Bag market. Every character in the game needs Bags and Reagent Bags, and you can absolutely dedicate yourself to crafting and selling these for profit, especially if you get your hands on the better recipes earlier than most other players. The market is going to be very stable and consistent, but also very competitive — the demand is high, and so is the supply.
If you want something a bit less crowded, selling good crafted gear is the way to go. In WoW Forever, Tailoring offers lots of options suited to many different playstyles, so you’ll probably be able to find buyers for many different types of gear. If you can quickly identify the meta leveling gear, selling it can become a goldmine. If you miss out on this, endgame gear is always going to be important, although you probably know that already.
Always take a good look at rare Patterns that you get — considering how many of them are available in the game, there is a good chance that you’re one of the few lucky Tailors who have obtained this particular one, meaning that you can now act as somewhat of a monopolist, selling gear that almost no one else can craft.
Finally, just a bit of common sense: only sell items that will turn in some profit. There are some cases where crafted items cost less than the sum of their materials, and even if you got said materials for free, it would make more sense to sell them separately.
Best Professions to Pair with Tailoring
Your primary source of cloth is killing humanoid enemies, which is arguably one of Tailoring’s biggest strengths — you don’t have to invest in a separate gathering profession to get your materials, like Leatherworking specialists have to do with Skinning. That means that you are able to freely invest in a second crafting profession, and Enchanting is by far your best choice.
The reason is simple: you can disenchant some of the gear you craft with Tailoring to get Enchanting materials, saving money and time in the process. And since Tailoring doesn’t require you to go out of your way to get materials in the first place — unlike Herbalism and Mining — you get a very consistent stream of materials for both professions without much effort. While you probably won’t end up with an abundance of stuff for your Enchanting, it’s still nice to get something.
However, you don’t absolutely have to choose Enchanting. Tailoring can work fine with any gathering profession like Skinning, Mining, and Herbalism if your goal is to simply make money by selling materials. You can also consider Alchemy or Engineering if your goal is to have a non-Enchanting profession to pair with Tailoring.
Best Class to Learn Tailoring in Forever
While Tailoring might seem like a very cool profession that feels far less strict and limited than some other options at hand in WoW Forever, some of its mechanics — particularly bind-on-pickup — limit its usefulness quite severely.
The best part of Tailoring currently is the ability to create great leveling gear for Classes that wear Cloth, as long as the Tailor also belongs to said Class. That leaves you with Mages, Priests, and Warlocks.
On the bright side, all three classes get a lot from Tailoring, since the variety of options it provides is huge. All three classes rely on several forms of magic:
- Mages work with Arcane, Fire, and Frost.
- Priests interact with Healing, Holy, and Shadow.
- Warlocks rely on Fire and Shadow.
As you’ve already noticed, all of these are fully covered by Forever’s Tailoring. You can craft gear based on the demands of your specific build, fine-tuning it to empower your playstyle specifically, and that isn’t something that everyone can boast.
Tailoring Legacy Bonuses in WoW Forever
Just like most other professions, Tailoring benefits from the Forever’s Legacy system in a general way, with no talents dedicated to it specifically. However, it probably benefits way more from additional Merchant’s Favor provided by one of the talents, since Tailors will need recipes provided by the Azeroth Commerce Authority and Durotar Supply and Logistics.
- Working Overtime increases your chance to gain a skill increase from any tradeskill.
- Dedicated Study increases your skill level in your lowest tradeskill by a small amount or provides random Elemental Essences if you have already reached 300 in all 5 skills.
- Performance Bonus grants a chance to receive 100% additional Merchant's Favor when turning in a supply crate to the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics.
- Field Guide reduces the cooldown on adding Camp features.
- Reagent Economy makes it so your class abilities no longer require reagents purchasable from vendors, and your Tier 1 camping features cost no reagents to craft.
