WoW Forever Herbalism Changes

Herbalism is one of the easiest professions to learn and level. To the point of mundanity, even. You don’t need a special tool such as a hammer for Blacksmithing to carry around, no crafting station, and no giant shopping list that bankrupts you once you hit the 250-300 leveling part. There’s still one, but it’s far cheaper compared to others. That simplicity is honestly one of its biggest strengths, but also a weakness, as this profession can become boring quickly, yet quite lucrative. Even for such a basic profession, Forever adds enough new stuff to make Herbalism noticeably better than its Classic version:
- Three new endgame herbs: Marefoil, Demonsage, and Death Lotus are used in new level 60 crafting recipes
- Herb Seeds: Commonplace, Uncommon, Unusual, and Scarce Herb Seeds can drop while gathering and interact with your Greenhouse and Seed Hybridizer
- Scarce materials: Frilled Lichen, Rosecap, and Stranglevine can appear alongside normal herbs and are used in new crafting recipes
- Wild Harvest: An early starting-zone quest can give you a manual that teaches Herbalism and adds a couple of early skill points
- Tauren Cultivation was reworked: Instead of giving flat Herbalism skill, it can duplicate a nearby herb. There’s also a new player-level requirement based on the herb you’re trying to cultivate
- New campsite features: Herbalists can grow herbs from seeds and later combine seeds into better ones
The campsite progression is particularly useful because it turns Herbalism into something more than simply farming open-world nodes:
|
Camp Feature |
Herbalism Skill |
Effect |
|
Incense Candle |
20 |
Provides an Intellect camp buff |
|
Greenhouse |
140 |
Lets you grow herbs from planted seeds |
|
Seed Hybridizer |
300 |
Lets you multiply or combine seeds into rarer tiers |
The Seed Hybridizer keeps the Incense Candle benefits as well, while the Greenhouse lets the seeds you collect while leveling actually do something instead of slowly forming a botanical landfill in your bank.
Leveling Herbalism in WoW Forever
WoW Forever Herbalism leveling is far more straightforward than most crafting professions because you don’t have to calculate recipes or buy materials. You simply move into progressively higher-level zones and gather specific herbs that have a good chance of increasing your skill. The current route is split into seven main brackets from 1 to 300. Note that you can’t gather just any herb you want. Peacebloom and Silverleaf can be gathered from skill 1, and Earthroot becomes available at 15. Start with them, then keep moving into zones containing progressively higher-level herbs and gather every listed plant there until they all turn gray. Here’s the WoW Forever Herbalism 1-300 leveling route I’d follow:
|
Herbalism Skill |
Priority Herbs |
Recommended Zones |
|
1 → 70 |
Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Earthroot |
Any starting zone, including Zephras Isle |
|
70 → 115 |
Mageroyal, Briarthorn, Stranglekelp, Bruiseweed |
The Barrens, Darkshore, Loch Modan, Silverpine Forest |
|
115 → 170 |
Bruiseweed, Wild Steelbloom, Kingsblood, Liferoot |
Hillsbrad Foothills, Wetlands, Stonetalon Mountains |
|
170 → 205 |
Liferoot, Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, Khadgar's Whisker |
Arathi Highlands, Stranglethorn Vale |
|
205 → 230 |
Wintersbite, Firebloom, Purple Lotus |
Alterac Mountains, Tanaris, Searing Gorge |
|
230 → 270 |
Sungrass, Purple Lotus, Ghost Mushroom, Golden Sansam |
Feralas, The Hinterlands |
|
270 → 300 |
Dreamfoil, Mountain Silversage, Plaguebloom |
Felwood, Eastern Plaguelands |
For 1-70, you’ll stay in your starting zone and gather literally everything you pass. Peacebloom grows in open terrain, Silverleaf tends to appear near trees, and Earthroot likes slopes and cliffs. One of the few times when munchkinism is actually beneficial. At 70-115, Briarthorn and Mageroyal become your main ways to level up. Stranglekelp is another good plant that unlocks at 85 and grows underwater, which is why I don’t recommend focusing on it unless you travel somewhere along the coast. Bruiseweed becomes available at 100 and will take you to the next bracket. From 115-170, Wild Steelbloom, Kingsblood, and eventually Liferoot should carry you without any complication. Hillsbrad Foothills is particularly convenient because it has open areas, slopes, and water in the same general region, meaning you can grab several relevant herb types without constantly changing zones. The next part of the leveling is also quite straightforward. You go from 170 to 205. Get Goldthorn from 170 and Khadgar's Whisker from 185. Both Arathi Highlands and Stranglethorn Vale give you plenty of nodes. Important PSA: once you reach 200 Herbalism, train Artisan before continuing toward 225. At 205-230, Tanaris is what I recommend. Firebloom is available from 205, and Purple Lotus from 210 around ruins. Alterac Mountains is another option if you want Wintersbite, while Searing Gorge has Firebloom. For 230-270, move into Feralas or The Hinterlands and start looking for Sungrass. Ghost Mushroom becomes available at 245 and is found inside caves, while Golden Sansam becomes available at 260. The Hinterlands is especially convenient because you can pick outdoor herbs and take cave detours for Ghost Mushrooms without changing zones. For the final stretch, 270-300 is mostly Dreamfoil farming. Mix in Mountain Silversage at 280 and Plaguebloom at 285. Felwood and Eastern Plaguelands both work extremely well and contain several herbs that are still good even after you hit 300. Icecap becomes available at 290 in Winterspring if you’d rather finish there. That’s it for leveling Herbalism. Next is the most crucial part that can easily be forgotten with how self-sufficient Herbalism is. Don’t forget your profession ranks. Train Journeyman at 50, Expert at 125, and Artisan at 200. Each rank raises your maximum Herbalism by another 75 points.
WoW Forever Herbalism Skill Boosts
Herbalism has a really cool feature: you can temporarily push your effective skill above your actual level. All relevant bonuses can stack high enough to give you up to +25 Herbalism, letting you gather higher-tier plants earlier than you normally would. Here are some of the ways to boost Herbalism skill in WoW Forever:
|
Bonus |
Herbalism Skill |
|
Apothecary Gloves |
+2 |
|
Herbalist's Gloves |
+5 |
|
Enchant Gloves - Herbalism |
+2 |
|
Enchant Gloves - Advanced Herbalism |
+5 |
|
Goldthorn Tea |
+15 |
The perfect combo is getting Herbalist's Gloves + Advanced Herbalism + Goldthorn Tea, which in total gives +25. Don’t worry if you don’t hit the maximum bonus all the time along your leveling journey and painfully maintain every bonus. They just allow you to gather some of the herbs earlier, which is useful for cutting corners, but you can just do it the normal way described earlier, and you won’t lose that much time in comparison.
New Herbs and Seeds in WoW Forever
Forever adds three completely new endgame herbs: Marefoil, Demonsage, and Death Lotus. All three are used by new level 60 recipes, with Marefoil and Demonsage used in several new Alchemy flasks and Death Lotus appearing in multiple professions such as Alchemy, Enchanting, Engineering, and even Blacksmithing. This herb is gonna be in high demand, so make sure to look for Enchant Gloves - Lotus Claw, which can give you a small chance to obtain Death Lotus when gathering herbs in Hyjal. Herbs can also drop four qualities of seeds:
- Commonplace Herb Seeds
- Uncommon Herb Seeds
- Unusual Herb Seeds
- Scarce Herb Seeds
At 140 Herbalism, your Greenhouse lets you plant these seeds to grow herbs over time. At 300, the Seed Hybridizer lets you multiply seeds or combine them into rarer tiers. The Seed Hybridizer itself requires 4 Mountain Silversage, 1 Crystal Vial, and 2 Runecloth to craft.

Making Gold with Herbalism in WoW Forever
Herbalism is one of the simplest gold-making professions because there’s barely any investment involved, but not the most profitable per se. You gather materials, but production will fall on somebody else, unless you’ve learned Alchemy. Forever also adds herbs to some crafting systems and First Aid recipes. The easiest gold farming strategy for Herbalism is to simply sell herbs during leveling. Stopping your progression just to farm one highly demanded herb isn’t gonna be worth it, especially given the slower Forever progression. Early herbs might not sell for much individually, but some plants remain relevant throughout the whole game. Most profitable herbs for Herbalism in WoW Forever are:
Will remain relevant, probably even through the whole game. Scarce materials are another source of profit. Frilled Lichen, Rosecap, and Stranglevine can appear as extra drops while gathering normal herbs, which means every node has a chance to be worth even more. The Legacy LINK perk Bountiful Harvest makes these Scarce materials even more attractive for dedicated gatherers. At 300, Black Lotus is one of the most famous herbs to look for, which remains the same since Classic days. It requires 300 Herbalism and appears in Burning Steppes, Eastern Plaguelands, Silithus, and Winterspring.
Best Profession to Pair with Herbalism in WoW Forever
Alchemy is the best profession to pair with Herbalism. It’s a very obvious choice since most Alchemy recipes consume herbs, so gathering them yourself dramatically reduces the cost of leveling and lets you turn raw materials into more valuable consumables instead of just selling everything in the Auction House. Mining is another strong option if you plan to use this character as an alt money-making machine. Running around with two gathering professions means almost everything you see in the open world can become gold. The downside that will annoy you is that Find Herbs and Find Minerals can’t be active simultaneously, so you’ll have to switch between them while farming, which isn’t that big of a deal, honestly, but I just sometimes hate to do these kinds of small actions. It’s the same as setting reminders on your smartphone. Small task, yet feels bigger than it is. My advice: just go with Alchemy + Herbalism. While WoW Forever is way less generous with money than retail, I feel like with slower progression, making a money-making character is a waste of time.
Best Race and Class for Herbalism in WoW Forever
Taurens are easily the best Herbalism race. Make a surprised face. Their racial, Cultivation, was completely reworked in Forever. Instead of giving you a flat Herbalism skill buff, it now creates a duplicate of a nearby herb, making grinding for profession levels less tedious and more profitable. November 2 update also tied Cultivation to player level: the requirement is the herb’s Herbalism requirement divided by five, while herbs above 300 require level 60. As for classes, Druid is the best Herbalist thanks to Travel Form and Prowl. You spend most of this profession running between nodes, so movement and avoiding pointless fights are exactly what you want. Hunter and Warlock also work well because their pets can keep enemies occupied while you gather. Hunters additionally get Feign Death, which is perfect for getting rid of unwanted attention. Another possible class recommendation is Rogue due to their Stealth abilities, though for Rogue, I recommend other profession combos.
