WoW Midnight Invasion Points Explained

To put it simply, Invasion points are zones where you do regular open-world activities like quests, rares, events, treasures, etc. But all of that with an added layer of difficulty and progression.
Lore-wise, the goal is to push back the Void forces at their source. It’s not like you were done after all the Midnight story and raid endings. Turns out Illidari and the Army of the Light with Riftblade Maella in Silvermoon are traveling to the Voidstorm to deal with the constant invasions, and you’re helping them.
What Are Invasion Points?
Currently, there are two destinations for Invasion Points: Val and Naigtal. Only one zone is active at a time, so you just have to follow the weekly rotation, enter the available zone through the portal, and complete its outdoor objectives. You got the usual stuff:
- World Quests
- Killing rares
- Finding and opening treasures
- Participating in events
- Killing World Bosses
Invasion Points have two difficulty tiers:
- Normal - base difficulty for all players
- Heroic World Tier - aimed at geared characters who can take on tougher enemies, elite patrols, and affixes.
When you’re on the Portal Destination screen, you’ll see that Heroic difficulty adds 3 affixes like Elite Presence.
How to Unlock Invasion Points
Traditionally, everything starts with a questline from Riftblade Maella in Silvermoon City. You’ll find her near the Field Accolade quartermasters at 47.6 51.0. The questline is called Assault and Strike Back. Use the BtWQuests addon to find where the first quest starts. It’s my favorite addon that helps me keep track of all the quests and questlines.
Anyway, this questline will send you to recruit allies, prepare the strike team, and open the way into the Voidstorm. The base storyline includes the following quests:
- The Time to Strike
- Stalkers of the Stars
- Veterans of the Great Dark
- To the Voidstorm and Beyond!
- Through the Cold Rift
- Surveying the Frozen Wastes
- Through the Mana Rift
There are also questlines for each of the two new zones: Assault and Strike Back: Naigtal and Assault and Strike Back: Val.
Once the introductions are complete, you can enter the active invasion point through a portal. Here are the portal locations:
|
Portal |
Location |
|
Silvermoon Showdown Portal |
Around /way #2393 47.95 48.10 |
|
Voidstorm Showdown Portal |
Around /way #2405 51.43 71.33 |
When you interact with either of them, you’ll see which zone is active at this time. And by the way, it's possible to skip the questline for the alts. You just have to finish the intro questline once, and for alts, Riftblade Maella dialogue will have that skip button.
As for unlocking Heroic World Tier, it used to require defeating an Invasion Point world boss during PTR. But, according to one of the recent developer updates, which can be found here, that requirement has since been removed. Now, all you need is a level 90 character, and you can even choose to do the intro quests on this difficulty.
Val and Naigtal Rotation
As I mentioned before, Val and Naigtal rotate weekly, with only one destination active at a time. The portal is unstable, so the available Invasion Point changes each weekly reset.
Val is the colder and more militarized of the two. The zone is built around Domanaar control, storms, and Legion-style ruins. Naigtal leans more into mushrooms, arcane energy, ethereal tech, and Mana-Forge activity. Both zones use the same general content structure, but their enemy types, achievements, and world bosses differ.
The rotation also affects mount progress. Val has its own meta achievement, Naigtal has its own meta achievement, and Heroic World Tier has a separate meta achievement. Since some criteria require both zones, collectors should treat Invasion Points as a multi-week checklist rather than a one-night grind.
Normal vs Heroic World Tier

Invasion Points have Normal and Heroic World Tier options. You choose the difficulty when entering through the portal, similar to how the game asks you to pick a layer or mode for certain outdoor content.
Normal is the standard version. It is easier, has a lower recommended item level, and gives baseline rewards. Heroic is the harder version. It has higher enemy health and damage, extra elite enemies, affixes, and better rewards.
|
Difficulty |
Recommended item level |
Main purpose |
Reward level |
|
Normal World Tier |
217 to 219 |
General outdoor farming, questing, casual clears |
Field Accolades, Champion rewards, Normal weekly cache |
|
Heroic World Tier |
274 |
Harder outdoor progression and better weekly rewards |
More Field Accolades, Hero gear from bosses, Heroic weekly cache, Myth gear quest progress |
Heroic World Tier is not just Normal with slightly fatter mobs. It adds extra danger to the whole zone. Enemy packs hit harder, rares become more serious, and special modifiers can make random fights much messier.
The known Heroic modifiers include:
- Creature Affixes, which give enemies extra abilities.
- Elite Overseers, which add more elite enemies to the zone.
- Elite Presence - Warp Riders in Naigtal.
- Elite Presence - Blackstar Legion in Val.
- Zone or creature-specific effects tied to void, arcane, or fungal powers.
Affixes are a big part of the difficulty jump. They can add extra damage, hazards, summoned copies, poisonous areas, and other effects that make basic outdoor pulls less brainless. Heroic also uses patrolling elite squads that can hunt or ambush players, which is funny until you are trying to loot a treasure and suddenly get jumped by a patrol. There are 37 total affixes in the pool, and up to 4 can be active on a single mob simultaneously.
The zone also runs a Hunted system: completing activities raises a Stalked debuff on your buff bar. Once it upgrades to Hunted, a Patrol Elite will ambush you during your next combat — anywhere in the zone. Kill it to reset the debuff. These elites drop extra crest materials if you can handle the timing.
Heroic is worth doing if your character can handle it. The extra Field Accolades and better loot make it the more valuable version. For low-geared alts, Normal is still the safer place to start unless you have a group or do not mind dying a few times.
Invasion Point World Bosses

Each Invasion Point zone has one world boss. Val has Imperator Pertinax, and Naigtal has Nexus-Captain Leth’ir. These bosses are the leaders behind the attacks tied to each destination, so they are the main weekly targets in the system. You can check out this Wowhead post for more info.

|
|
Nexus-Captain Leth’ir |

The world boss quests recommend 15 players, so do not treat them like normal rare mobs. Well-geared players may be able to kill them with fewer people, especially on Normal, but the intended experience is still a group outdoor boss. On Heroic, expect a proper group pull, especially during the first weeks of the patch.
Normal world bosses reward Champion items for your Warband. Heroic world bosses reward Hero items for your Warband. They are one of the main reasons to visit the active zone each week, even if you do not feel like clearing every World Quest.
Heroic world boss kills also matter for the Knocking Off the Top quest. This quest asks each character to obtain 4 Void Commander’s Emblems from Heroic Invasion Point world bosses or Heroic weekly quest catch up sources. Since the boss reward is weekly, the quest normally takes 4 weeks to complete. The reward is a choice of Myth 1/6 gear in one of three slots: cloak, belt, or bracers. Boss gear in both zones is Bind-on-Equip until first used - unused drops can be traded to alts or sold on the Auction House.
Invasion Point Rewards
Invasion Points reward a mix of gear, currency, crests, cosmetics, pets, mounts, toys, and housing decor. The system is not only about item level, which is good, because not everyone wants to farm a frozen rock world just for a cloak.
The main reward types are:
- Field Accolades.
- Voidlight Marl.
- Relic Coffer Key Shards.
- Hero Dawncrests from Normal weekly caches.
- Myth Dawncrests from Heroic weekly caches.
- Champion Crests from Normal World Quests and rares.
- Heroic Crests from Heroic World Quests and rares.
- Lost Armaments from rare enemies.
- Champion gear from Normal rewards.
- Hero gear from Heroic rewards.
- Myth 1/6 cloak, belt, or bracers from Knocking Off the Top.
- Transmog weapons and armor.
- Mounts, pets, toys, and housing decor.
Completing Invasion Point activities also counts toward the World Content row of your Great Vault, giving weekly reward options on top of the direct drops.
Lost Armaments are one of the main gear drops from rares. On Normal, rare foes can drop Champion 1/6 gear for your Warband. On Heroic, rare foes can drop Champion 4/6 gear for your Warband. This makes rares worth checking, especially if you are gearing a newer character or chasing appearances.
The gear cache side is also important because Field Accolades now have more practical uses. Maren Silverwing sells several catch up gear options.
|
Cache type |
Cost |
Notes |
|
Slot-specific Heroic track cache |
750 Field Accolades |
Let's you target a specific gear slot |
|
Random Heroic track cache |
500 Field Accolades |
Cheaper, but random |
|
Slot-specific Champion track Warbound cache |
100 Field Accolades |
Can be sent to alts |
|
Random Champion track cache |
75 Field Accolades |
Cheapest Champion option, but random |
The Warbound Champion cache is especially useful for alts. Field Accolades themselves are not Warbound, so this is one of the better ways to turn extra currency on a geared character into something useful for another character.
There are also Umbral Base Camp vendors for cosmetics and decor. Fieldsmith Ventem sells Response Team themed armor and weapon appearances. Most Response Team weapons cost 60 Field Accolades and 500 Voidlight Marl. Most armor pieces cost 30 Field Accolades and 300 Voidlight Marl. Cloaks also cost 30 Field Accolades and 300 Voidlight Marl.
Zuronar sells Lightforged-themed weapons and housing decor. Some examples include Arsenal: Lightforged Armaments for 60 Field Accolades and 500 Voidlight Marl, Lightruned Crystal Beacon for 60 Field Accolades and 500 Voidlight Marl, and Lightveil Argunite Blade for 60 Field Accolades and 500 Voidlight Marl. Housing decor costs vary, with examples like De-Powered Lightforged Siegebreaker at 500 Voidlight Marl, Grand Artificer’s Lightforged Console at 250 Voidlight Marl, Lightveil’s Transport Pad at 250 Voidlight Marl, and several banner or fence pieces at 150 Voidlight Marl.
The Lightveil Recall Beacon is also earned early in the questline. It recalls you to the current active Umbral Base Camp on Val or Naigtal, and its cooldown is 15 minutes. This is one of those small rewards that sounds boring until you are halfway across a hostile zone and just want to vendor, repair, or turn something in.
Mount Rewards From Invasion Meta Achievements
One of the biggest rewards tied to Invasion Points is a set of collectible mounts earned through the zone meta achievements. These achievements are surprisingly straightforward and mostly require completing questlines, World Quests, bonus objectives, and rare kills across Val and Naigtal.
Because Val and Naigtal rotate weekly, you will need access to both zones to finish all requirements. However, none of the zone meta achievements require Heroic World Tier, making them accessible to most players.

Voidmancer's Starcarver (Void Surfboard)

Completing A Trip Around the Stars unlocks the Voidmancer's Starcarver, a Void-themed surfboard mount inspired by Domanaar technology.
The achievement requires:
- Into the Stars
- Prepared for a Showdown
- Frosty Domanaar Politics
- Climate Strange: Val
- Showdown Slugger: Val
- Showdown Success: Val
Most objectives involve completing Val questlines, defeating rare enemies, clearing World Quests, and finishing bonus objectives. Once unlocked, the mount can be purchased for 4,500 Voidlight Marl.
Voidmancer's Starcarver Description:
"This pinnacle of Voidmancer transport technology was once a symbol of status and power among high ranking domanaar. After its creator mysteriously vanished, it was viewed as unseemly when used on core worlds gatherings."
Netherforged Nullframe (Void-Forged Mechsuit)

Completing A Trip Through the Stars unlocks the Netherforged Nullframe, a Void-infused version of the Legion-era Lightforged Warframe.
The achievement requires:
- Into the Stars
- Prepared for a Showdown
- A Hal'hadar Walks into a Swamp
- Climate Strange: Naigtal
- Showdown Slugger: Naigtal
- Showdown Success: Naigtal
Like the Val achievement, these objectives focus on quest progression, World Quests, rare kills, and bonus objectives throughout Naigtal. After completing the achievement, the mount becomes available for purchase.
Netherforged Nullframe Description:
"Assembled by the Lightforged, sundered by the Hal'hadar, and restored by a Technomancer. A matrix of light, void, and arcane swirls within this renewed Warframe."
Collectors should prioritize these achievements early, since they provide two of the most unique mount rewards available in Patch 12.0.7 and naturally progress while completing weekly Invasion Point content.
Collectors also have several achievement rewards to chase. Val and Naigtal each have their own meta achievement, and Heroic World Tier has another one.

Climate Strange: Val requires dissipating 5 storms by completing bonus objectives in Val. Showdown Slugger: Val requires killing 6 rare creatures in Val. The Naigtal meta achievement follows the same pattern. It includes Into the Stars, Prepared for a Showdown, A Hal’hadar Walks into a Swamp, Climate Strange: Naigtal, Showdown Slugger: Naigtal, and Showdown Success: Naigtal.
