What are Void Assaults in Midnight 12.0.5

Void Assaults consist of two open-world activities that feel kind of like an expanded version of the Twilight Ascension pre-patch event. Assaults are also tied to the Ritual Sites activity, as they both share the currency and hence the rewards. Both are also tied to the Ritual Sites faction. The Assaults include:

• Void Strikes - smaller, objective-based events, completing which contributes to a progress bar that unlocks Incursions.
• Void Incursions - the bigger event that occurs only when enough strikes have been completed by the players in the same area.

There are two zones where these events can run - Eversong Woods and Zul’Aman. Only one zone is active during a week, and on the reset, the zone changes. So, you and other players would go around the map completing Void Strikes to fill the progress bar for the Incursion, and once enough progress has been made, the Incursion begins. During the PTR, completing Strikes only contributed 1/100% of the bar, and it was nearly impossible to activate an Incursion at such a rate.

Void Strikes Explained

Void Strikes are the smaller, repeatable open-world activities inside the Void Assault system in Patch 12.0.5. They take place directly in the open world and rotate around the currently active zone. 

These strikes are always active in whichever of the two zones is chosen during the week. The event itself is usually divided into multiple stages with simpler objectives. Sometimes, you would get the one that’s very similar to the Twilight Ascension event, where you’d go and kill trash mobs first, then five lieutenants, and then fight the boss. Other objectives include:

1. Void Rifts, 
2. Corrupted Wardstones, 
3. Void Commanders, 
4. Resonance Anchors

Another example is a Strike that takes place in the Amani Village, and it revolves around defending the village’s supplies from attacking Void forces.

One other example of a Void Strike is called Battery Rush: Downstream, which takes place in the river between Atal’Aman and Broken Throne. Its description reads: “Etereal forces are striking near the Broken Throne.” Granted, no objective is provided in this description, but it's safe to say that you’d be fighting Void enemies in this one as well.

Strikes can be hectic, but they’re not particularly difficult and can be done solo.

Void Incursions Explained

Void Incursions are the larger open-world events that activate after filling the progress bar by completing multiple Void Strikes. One such Incursion that takes place in Zul’Aman reads, “Ethereal forces are using the unrest caused by the void strikes to prepare for an attack. Be ready to assist the amani’s call”.

Incursions are also stage-based activities, and much like with Strikes, you don’t need to form a group to do them. You just join a pack of players that are already doing it and go along in a small zerg. Unfortunately, I can’t provide any examples of Incursions and how they go, because I haven’t been able to play through one myself in the PTR. I will update the guide once the patch 12.0.5 is live. What is known is that incursions lead to one of two zone bosses.

• Eversong Woods - Voidlord Thal'kiel
• Zul’Aman - Hex Lord Malacrass Reborn

Void Incursions are best done in a group or a zerg; they’re much larger in scale and therefore not doable solo.

 

 

Void Assaults Rewards

Void Assaults and Ritual Sites share the same currency and rewards.

• Field Accolades - Maren Silverwing (48.2 49.6) will exchange these for Void-Touched Caches in Silvermoon City.
• Cache of Void-Touched Armaments - contains a champion item (for 75 Field Accolades) or heroic item (for 500 Field Accolades) for your loot specialization.
• Field Satchel - filled with Field Accolades, Gold, Voidlight Marl, and more, acknowledging your acumen in the field.
• Field Pouch - contains Field Accolades, Gold, Voidlight Marl, and more, acknowledging your acumen in the field.
• Dark Particles - used to purchase more Field Accolades from Maren Silverwing. The exchange rate is 100 Dark Particles = 10 Field Accolades.

Field Accolades are rewarded for completing both Strikes and Incursions as well as Ritual Sites. On top of that, you’ll be getting these for completing weekly quests.

Ritual Sites Renown Rewards

Field Pouches and Satchels are rewarded for completing Strikes and Incursions specifically and contain a little more than just Field Accolades. More rewards will come from Ritual Sites' renown progress, which includes the following rewards.

• Renown 1: Ritual Magic - Reneration Orbs
• Renown 2: Ritual Treasures
• Renown 3: Ritual Decor
• Renown 4: Outlying Dangers + Ritual Magic - Orb Potency
• Renown 5: Shrines of Power + Additional Spoils
• Renown 6: Corrupted Menagerie + Ritual Magic - Orbs Aplenty
• Renown 7: Revered Treasures + Dark Obelisk + Shrines of Power II
• Renown 8: Corrupted Transport + Elite Dangers

I will not go into the details on what each of these means. However, Corrupted Menagerie consists of two battle pets that you will be able to purchase from Sergeant Vornin (48.6, 50.6), and those are:

• Void-Touched Mindbender Fry for 25 Field Accolades
• Void-Touched Dragonhawk for 25 Field Accolades

The Corrupted Transport at Renown 8 refers to the Void-Touched Hawkstrider mount for 50 Field Accolades. Another mount can be obtained by completing two achievements:

1. Void Response Team
2. Ritual Site Disruptor

Complete both, and you will be able to purchase Unbound Manawyrm for 200 Field Accolades. 

New Housing Decor

You will also find another NPC vendor who sells housing decor, Rae'ana <Historian and Research Supplier> (47.6, 50.6). She sells:

• Void Elf Scribe's Desk — 250 Field Accolades
• Runic Parchment — 150 Field Accolades
• Void Inkwell — 150 Field Accolades
• Void Elf Floating Desk — 150 Field Accolades
• Void Flame Candle — 150 Field Accolades
• Dark Obelisk — 500 Field Accolades

These become available for purchase upon reaching Ritual Sites Renown 3.

 

 

Void-recolored Tier 2 Sets

Void recolored Tier 2 sets is something that players have been asking about for months prior to this patch release, like this one Redditor who goes by the name of Gavion92. These can be purchased from Triam Dawnsetter (48.0, 49.2), and these will cost both Field Accolades and Voidlight Marl:

Unfortunately, you cannot target the item for your class specifically. You can only choose which slot you want the item for, and then the Cache will randomly drop the slot item for one of the classes. So, if you’re unlucky, you might end up opening 12 caches for the same slot until you get the 13th for your class.
