With Season 1 of Midnight in full swing, most endgame content is already available, besides a few Mythic raids, so there’s plenty to do and focus on. As someone who doesn’t have that much time to play games anymore, I, like a lot of other gamers, am looking to make my game sessions productive.
Daily and weekly resets give us a good idea of what we should be focusing on, and a secret to a fun time in WoW is to do those power tasks, which give you gear progression first, so you can do whatever you want the rest of the session. So here’s what you need to do first when you log in.
Step #1 - Jump Into Mythic Plus Keys
You want to start by farming the highest key you can realistically win, ideally, up to 10. This will maximize your gear. Higher keys offer better rewards and Great Vault options on the next reset. Check out our Midnight Mythic+ guide for more info on how this endgame system works, as well as what kind of rewards you can get from it.
Step #2 - Queue for LFR Raids
Do this until you get that 4-item set bonus. Until you get that, this step has to be one of the first things you do when you start playing. There are currently 3 raids available in the game, and if you’re a fresh level 90, check out my guides for each one that explain how to beat each boss in every raid:
- The Dreamrift guide
- The Voidspire guide
- March on Quel’Dalas guide
Step #3 - Pick up a Weekly Quest from Lady Liadrin
This is a quick and simple thing to do because it gives you good value for the time spent. You get a cache and a Spark of Radiance - a crafting reagent for endgame, high-end crafted gear. The Weekly Apex Cache contains:
- 4k gold
- 100 Coffer Key Shard Coffer Key Shards
- 100 Voidlight Marl Voidlight Marl
- 20 Veteran Dawncrest Veteran Dawncrests
The world events include Soiree, Abundance, Stormarion, and Legends of Haranir.
Step #4 - Kill the World Boss
Another one of the low-effort activities is killing world bosses. Takes way less time compared to dungeons and raids, and gives you another shot at useful gear and weekly progress. There are 4 world bosses. Check their timers to see if they’re available. There’s usually a quest related to defeating them.
- Cragpine - Zul'Aman - /way 45.0 47.0
- Lu'ashal - Eversong Woods - /way 45.2 60.0
- Predaxas - Voidstorm
- Thorm'belan - Harandar
Step #5 - Complete 4 Nightmare Prey Hunts
This is especially good if you’re a solo player looking for stable progression. This is an open-world activity and an absolute must for chasing champion-level gear. You can do 4 hunts if you have the time, but only the first 4 hunts per difficulty reward a gear chest. Doing more is meaningless in terms of rewards. Don’t know what that is? Check out our Prey system guide that explains everything you need to know about it. It’s pretty easy to skip the introductory quest, but Prey is an important activity that helps with progression.
Step #6 - Do One Tier 11 Delve
This is especially important for solo-focused players. Even if you do not want to spend your whole week in delves, one high-tier delve run keeps your weekly progression moving and gives you more rewards, also counting towards the Great Vault gear unlock. Check out our Delves guide for a quick overview of all delves, companion skills, and rewards.
Step #7 - Spend Your Champion Dawncrests and Lower Crests
Upgrade your gear with Dawncrests because sitting on your currency doesn’t make you stronger, so push your ilvl as high as possible whenever you have the chance. Learn more about gear upgrades in my Midnight gearing guide, where I go over the upgrade currency, where to get it from, and how to use it.
Your Daily To-Do List For Midnight
If your attention span is that of a squirrel or you can’t play for more than half an hour a day, just use this neat list to not waste time when you start playing:
- Log in and collect freebies - start by clearing your mailbox, collecting rewards, and handling small housekeeping tasks. This keeps your inventory and Warband cleaner and stops small chores from piling up.
- Pick one value activity only - a delve, one M+ run, or a quick gathering run for your professions.
If you do have more time to play every day, here’s how you can approach your game session
- Start the day by pushing progression - do Great Vault activities like M+, Delves, or raids.
- Next, spend some time improving skill - review your tanking or healing routine, refine your rotation, and learn the boss mechanic.
- Do something fun - before finishing for the day, do something fun like hunting transmog pieces or housing decor.
This will ensure you won’t get off the game tilted, and you’ll come back the next time knowing you’ve made progress and had fun at the same time. If you need a reminder of how resets and the weekly progression system work, check out my Great Vault guide that explains everything.
How to Not Burn Out Playing WoW
All of these to-do lists, checklists, repeatable content, and the gear chase can be overwhelming. I recommend focusing on the type of content you enjoy the most, or just pick the type of content for the week, and then next week do a different one.
That makes your routine much easier to manage.
- Treat the other content types as a side activity - you do not need to fully keep up with everything at once. Your main activity should carry your power progression, while everything else stays optional.
- Set stop rules for stressful content - let’s say you wiped two times in a raid or M+, stop playing when that happens, and you’ll feel much better next time you play.
- Keep your professional focus narrow - if you enjoy crafting, do not spread yourself too thin. Pick two or three markets, learn them well, and keep your materials sorted in your Warbank so your routine stays simple.
Midnight is very alt-friendly, and sticking to two characters will help you stay relevant without the risk of getting a headache. Use your main for the heavy lifting, like raiding, doing high M+ keys, and keep the alt for professions, housing, and other stuff. That will keep your inventory from becoming a disaster.
And here’s my personal advice for those who haven’t played through all expansions. When I’m tired of chasing everybody else and that time-gated content of the current expansion, I let myself rest and enjoy the game by creating a new character and leveling them up in one of those expansions I haven’t tried yet. It’s a very chill experience that helps me play the game as if it were a story-based RPG with rich lore. For example, make a Pandaren and play through Mists of Pandaria or Kul-Tiran and go through Battle for Azeroth, if you haven’t seen those. Trust me, seeing those locations and stories for the first time will bring back the feeling of excitement and discovery into your life as a WoW player.

F.A.Q.
What is the best daily routine for WoW Midnight?
While some steps could be different based on what type of content you prefer doing, generally speaking, your daily to-do list looks something like this:
- Check your mailbox to claim unclaimed items, check the Great Vault if you haven’t
- Spend your Dawncrests to increase gear ilvl
- Jump into M+, then LFR raid for weekly Great Vault progress and good loot
- Do open-world stuff like world quests, world bosses, and hunts
- Do something fun before logging out
How to not get bored playing WoW Midnight?
Take a break from doing repetitive daily and weekly quests, focus on the content that you enjoy the most, as it should carry your gear progression on its own. Treat everything else as a side activity and don’t try doing everything at once.
Can I make progress in WoW without playing too much?
Absolutely! If you focus only on big progression activities such as one M+ run, one high-tier delve, or even one raid run in one session, you’re doing enough and progressing normally.
How to get the Weekly Apex Cache in Midnight?
You get a Weekly Apex Cache by completing one of Lady Liadrin’s weekly quests in Silvermoon. She offers a choice of four weekly quests, and you can finish one per week for an Apex Cache plus gold. There is also a chance for that week to award your Spark of Radiance.
Should I do delves or Mythic+ to gear up in Midnight?
That depends on how much time you have and whether you prefer group content or solo. M+ keys give you more options for risk versus reward. Delves are more casual, but still give you good loot.
