DPS Mythic+ Rankings for WoW Midnight - All Specs

I’ve put only four specs in S-Tier, and even when doing so, I was a bit unsure. Don’t get me wrong. They’re definitely stronger than the ones sitting in A-Tier or the ones below. But it’s hard to choose who is actually worth being that high on the list. Treat this tier list subjectively because your favorite spec can be in any tier, but it’s still playable if you know what buttons you press. Check out DPS Mythic+ rankings for Midnight Season 1:

Tier

Specs

S

Arcane Mage, Devourer Demon Hunter, Demonology Warlock, Elemental Shaman

A

Augmentation Evoker, Balance Druid, Frost Mage, Marksmanship Hunter, Fury Warrior, Havoc Demon Hunter, Enhancement Shaman, Unholy Death Knight

B

Affliction Warlock, Devastation Evoker, Retribution Paladin, Survival Hunter, Subtlety Rogue, Outlaw Rogue, Feral Druid, Fire Mage, Assassination Rogue, Frost Death Knight, Destruction Warlock

C

Arms Warrior, Windwalker Monk, Beast Mastery Hunter

D

Shadow Priest

Out of all specializations that I’ve put in S-Tier, I would say Demonology Warlock is the closest pick for me. Its natural tankiness and the fact that you can soak even more damage thanks to your pets make this spec equally good for experienced players like me, as well as for total beginners. You stay alive longer – you deal more damage, and the rotation isn’t that complicated. Not to mention the fact that Demo Warlock is also a great raid DPS, and I’ve mentioned that in another article.

Best Mythic+ DPS Classes in Midnight

As a veteran M+ player, I can guarantee you that every spec can work in this activity. But I want to draw your attention to the four specs that I’ve put in S-Tier because they’re simply stronger in the current meta of Season 1. All others you see can complete higher key levels as well, but running the ones from higher tiers like S or A would make it way easier. These are the best Mythic+ DPS classes in Midnight you can go for now:

  1. Arcane Mage
  2. Devourer Demon Hunter
  3. Demonology Warlock
  4. Elemental Shaman

Apart from Demo Warlock, I also enjoy Devourer DH lately, despite not being a huge fan of the Demon Hunter class in general. This spec is just too powerful, and I can bet the developers have done this intentionally because it’s the latest addition. I genuinely recommend that you try Devourer DH for your M+ runs if you haven’t done so yet.

Arcane Mage

Arcane Mage is the best Mythic+ DPS in Midnight now, because the nerfs haven’t done much to the spec. It took a little reshuffle, sure, but the end result is still S-Tier. You’ve got great AoE, powerful funnel, but your single-target got slightly nerfed. Your buttons like Arcane Orb, Arcane Pulse, and Arcane Explosion can annihilate packs of mobs in a sec.

Not to mention your Touch of the Magi paired with Arcane Surge and high-stack Arcane Barrage. You can enjoy all that, and the only trade-off is your single-target damage. That sounds like a more than okay deal. After all, you won’t need that much single-target damage in M+ compared to raids.

Devourer Demon Hunter

Devourer Demon Hunter is the strongest DPS for M+ in WoW if you’re looking for the melee/ranged pick here. This spec has the most unusual playstyle and ability combos. You should definitely try it, but only a few of you can actually main it. You’re unlikely to complete the highest keys on Devourer DH unless you practice it non-stop. It’s not an easy spec, and I felt it when I played it for like 15-20 hours at the very start.

As for your M+ potential, you won’t stop dealing damage, and that’s what I like about this spec. You’ve basically got a Void Meta window for every single trash pull. You’ll never be sitting behind and waiting for a specific button to become ready again. And I’m saying all that despite the spec’s overall damage has been reduced by 4% in the patch from March 17.

Demonology Warlock

Demonology Warlock got nerfed quite heavily, but only on paper. Your overall damage reduction might be around 10 to 12%. They’ve nerfed Demonic Soul, Soul Anathema, and Manifested Demonic Soul. Does that make the spec dead? No, because it was superbly powerful until that nerf. So, now it just lands in the exact spot where it should be. And for me, Demo Warlock is still a top Mythic+ DPS in Midnight, and I’ll continue playing it throughout the season for sure.

I also kinda like that they’ve shaved off some of that apex-talent spike damage. This means your overall output is less lottery ticket and more repeatable key-to-key. That matters a lot in Mythic+ runs because you want consistent pack pressure.

Elemental Shaman

I wouldn’t say that Elemental Shaman has received a huge buff or something. The biggest plus for Ele is that it hasn’t eaten any nerfs. This thing alone puts it among the best Mythic+ DPS in WoW Retail now. Until today, I have only seen people complaining about Elemental Shaman rather than playing it. And now I would boldly put it in S-Tier due to its Chain Lightning and Earthquake buffs. Only 10% damage increase, but these two buttons are what shape this spec in M+ keys in particular.

You won’t feel that much because it’s like roughly a 3% AoE damage boost. But the point here is that you’ll notice it in every single pull. And the devs haven’t touched your single-target damage. But the main Ele’s downside still remains: the spec can be quite cooldown-reliant, and I’m talking about Ascendance here. This hasn’t changed, and you’ll have to play around it to get ramped up for real.

Best Mythic+ Classes for Beginners

I’ve outlined these four specializations that will help you figure out what you should do as a DPS in M+ keys. They’ve got easier rotations to master, can be quite difficult to kill, and they kinda fit the current meta. All of them are from A-Tier, meaning they’re strong enough for you to get invited to a party if you’re a PUG fun. See the best Mythic+ DPS classes for beginners in Midnight Season 1:

  • Frost Mage: I would say Frost Mage is the safest ranged DPS pick for beginners. You don’t have to rely on one perfect damage window to be useful. You just press your spells whenever they’re ready and keep the distance. Your abilities like Ice Barrier, Ice Block, and Alter Time will save your life, especially when you can’t really rely on your Tanks or Healers.
  • Marksmanship Hunter: MM Hunter is the most obvious pick for new players in M+. You can deal a ton of damage without even learning any rotation. The big burst buttons will do the work for you. I’m talking about Rapid Fire, Volley, and Bursting Shot here. I truly enjoyed this spec when I only started playing WoW, and I still recommend it to anyone thinking about who to choose.
  • Fury Warrior: Fury Warrior is the spec that has everything from a decent HP pool to dealing consistent AoE. Unlike any ranged DPS, this spec forgives positioning mistakes, and your durability allows you to be in the frontline almost non-stop. And abilities like Odyn’s Fury, Bladestorm, and Improved Whirlwind will keep deleting mob packs coming at you.
  • Havoc Demon Hunter: Play Havoc DH once, and you’ll understand why it on this list. You’ve got great mobility to fix bad positioning, you’re quite tanky for a melee DPS, too. And all that is topped up with consistent AoE pressure to be useful in every pull. Your Eye Beam, Death Sweep, and The Hunt are what I’m talking about here.

My goal for M+ beginners is that you want to pick a spec with the easiest rotation possible. Because your goal will be to learn the dungeons, get used to timings and pulls. All that requires much effort, and you won’t be able to learn the hardest spec in this case. Don’t be afraid to experiment, and you’ll find your main. I also saw people mentioning Subtlety Rogue and Feral Druid for beginners, but they’re slightly out of meta, and that’s what you can see by looking at my rankings here.

Augmentation Evoker - A Must Try for Premade Groups

I would say Augmentation Evoker deserves a special place on my Midnight Mythic+ DPS tier list because this spec is like no other in the game. You belong to the damage-dealing type for sure, but you’re nothing without a good party in higher M+ keys. Hear me out: don’t go for this spec in PUGs. You’ll regret it the moment you’re inside the dungeon.

Aug Evoker can be OP if you’re playing in a premade group, and your party knows what they’re doing. Ideally, you wanna gather a group of friends and have a voice chat in Discord or something. Your Ebon Might is the only button that changes your run. Not to mention your utility spells like Cauterizing Flame and Spatial Paradox. And you’ve also got Bombardments for AoE damage to melt down these pulls.

To put it shortly, I would say Aug Evoker can be easily A-Tier if you’re playing with the right team. But it can go all the way down to D-Tier if you’re playing with randoms, and they don’t understand the purpose of your spec.

How I Created This M+ DPS Tier List

Just like any tier list you’ll see online, my rankings are vibes-based, as well as what I’ve seen so far throughout Season 1 of Midnight. All that can easily change after another batch of buffs and nerfs. I’ll keep updating this tier list to keep you in the meta. But this is how I did my research:

  1. I always keep in mind the latest class tuning: This is what influences the M+ meta most. Who got buffed, who got nerfed, and whose AoE is better matters a lot. I also see what people are playing and what the statistics look like after such patches are released. This tells me a lot about each specialization I compare and rank after all.
  2. I weigh damage profile more than burst windows: You’ve probably understood that already, because you want to be consistent and ready for every pull in Mythic+. This defines how well your spec is prepared for this type of activity.
  3. The spec’s difficulty matters a lot: When ranking all the specs, I always remember that not every player has time to learn it. Most players are looking for easier options, even if they’re experienced WoW players. That’s why certain specs can be stronger on paper, but they’re not in S-Tier since you’ll spend more time learning them than playing M+.
  4. Being practical is everything: Treat these rankings as advice. S-Tier specs are powerful, but they won’t carry you all alone. The same refers to C and D-Tiers, because they can complete even higher keys if played correctly. It all comes down to your preferences, spec’s playstyle, and how well you know its buttons.
