DPS Raid Rankings for WoW Midnight - All Specs

So far, only two specs are in S-Tier, and they’re truly shaping the current meta for raiding in WoW. I expect the nerfs to arrive soon because they’re absolutely broken. Yet going for other classes and specs, especially those sitting in A or even B Tiers can be a fine choice. It all comes down to how masterfully you’re playing the chosen spec. Both Unholy Death Knight and Demonology Warlock are top raid DPS in Midnight, and they deserve their place in S-Tier. But personally, I would say that Unholy DK is more of a versatile choice because you also get to live longer. The spec is not only dealing a ton of damage, but it’s also durable. This can help a lot if you’re a total beginner, for example. Demo Warlock is on the same line, but be ready that your strength relies mainly on your demons and pets summoned. This requires more control and positioning. Or you might get wiped much easier compared to Unholy.

Best Raid DPS Classes in Midnight

I’ve put only two specs in S-Tier, but this doesn’t mean others are unplayable. I see a lot of Devourer DHs running around, as well as Arcane Mages, and more. I would say that the specs you see in A-Tier are also quite meta, and they deserve your attention. It’s just a matter of time and released buffs and nerfs who are going to join S-Tier later. These are the best raid DPS classes in Midnight so far:

I find all of these specs superbly powerful in Season 1 raiding. My personal favorites here are the latest addition to the roster - Devourer DH, and Fire Mage is also on the list. Just like I told you about why I like playing Frost Mage in my other guide, the same can be said about Fire Mage. These two specs bring the best gaming experience with the playstyle they offer.

Unholy Death Knight

Unholy Death Knight is surely the best raid DPS in Midnight now, and they can’t kill it with the nerfs this spec has eaten lately. You’ve just swapped builds and are ready to go. You still have your strong go every 45 seconds and then a bigger one around the 90-second mark. This lines up naturally with add waves, priority targets, and phase pushes.

What I like about Unholy DK is that you’re not only bringing raw DPS. You always have buttons to press and bring extra pressure to the raid. I’m talking about cooldowns like Army of the Dead, Dark Transformation, and Apocalypse. Unholy DK is also mega durable, and that allows you to stay up if your Tank messes up.

Demonology Warlock

Demonology Warlock is the strongest DPS for raiding in WoW if your goal is to melt down single targets, which of course, it is. But you can also clear multiple targets quite easily. What I also like about this spec is that you don’t have to wait for the perfect window. You ramp, stabilize, and keep dealing overwhelming damage.

Yet your positioning still matters a lot as a caster. Yes, you’re not going to die that easily like other ranged DPS. You’re naturally tanky and have a lot of defensive buttons to stay alive. But be prepared to rotate to a safer place, especially if you’re only learning the raid mechanics or don’t know the spec well.

Devourer Demon Hunter

Devourer Demon Hunter stays super consistent and easy to play in raids. That’s what I like about this spec. It was illegally powerful, but the nerf pushed it into the “this is still really, really good” territory. You’re still bringing a smooth damage curve, good uptime tools, and enough survivability to not be a constant rez target.

I’m talking about the buttons like Collapsing Star, Voidblade/Hungering Slash combos, as well as Reap. The last one gives you a huge burst. All that allows you to stay in the fight almost non-stop and not disappear after one cuter opener is executed.

Arcane Mage

Arcane Mage has been nerfed for sure, but the spec was so powerful that it still stays among the strongest picks in Season 1 raids. It has everything from amazing single-target damage to decent AoE as well. Your Arcane Orbs are still there for you, and this is what allows you to turn targets into dust faster than most of the DPS on my Midnight raid DPS tier list, which you’ll see further. I would explain what that means for raiding shorter:

• You’re scary on boss damage
• You’re even scarier when the fight has priority targets or add waves

Not to mention a ton of escape tools you’ve got to save yourself if your Tank screws up. This is the spec that literally has all the possible answers to any situation that might happen.

Feral Druid

The biggest advantage of Feral Druid in raids now is that you’ve got a ton of burst damage on a one-minute rhythm. I can say this about AoE damage because your cleave actually hits a lot. But single-target damage is what holds Feral Druid in A-Tier. But being quite tanky for a DPS also adds a bonus to this spec. You’ll outlive mechanics thanks to your Survival Instincts when other melees would be deleted instantly. 50% damage reduction isn’t a joke, yeah.

Devastation Evoker

After the Disintegrate single-target buffs, you’re no longer that helpless against bosses. You’ve still got that very real frontloaded burst for add spawns and priority targets, but now your boss damage holds up much better through the full encounter, which is exactly what you want on progression. And your Deep Breath is still your big tempo tool for movement and repositioning if something goes wrong. I like this spec because it’s just consistent, and doesn’t need anything special to be good in a raid.

Augmentation Evoker

You’re probably surprised to see Augmentation Evoker in A-Tier because it’s not the most popular pick for raids. Yeah, you’re right, but the spec itself is absolutely great for this type of content. You can make your party much stronger by taking this slot in there. Also, if played properly, you’ll make your best raid DPS even deadlier. This happens because of your buffs like Ebon Might and Prescience, and I’m not even mentioning a ton of utility you’ve got. Namely, Zephyr and Rescue.

All this makes Aug a sort of DPS without too much raw DPS, but it’s an essential pick for serious raiding. If you’re running raids in WoW as a party of friends, consider going for one try together with Aug. You’ll notice the difference right away, trust me.

Fire Mage

Fire Mage is by far my favorite DPS spec for raiding in Midnight now, and the only reason for this is Combustion. You just hit that button, and you see a damage spike like never before. This ability allows you to do burn windows on bosses or make any wave disappear.

Combine all that with powerful spells on their own, like Fire Blast, Pyroblast, and Meteor, and you’ve got a perfect ranged DPS. On paper… of course. The problem comes out of itself here: you’re not that powerful when Combustion is on cooldown. This can be a big deal if you’re a serious raider, but a lot of players find Fire Mage fun and easy to play, which can be a big plus for beginners or simply average WoW players.

 

Best Raid DPS Classes for Beginners

Being new to raiding in WoW means you want the easiest DPS to master the rotation faster and start dealing decent numbers. I’ve got several specs fitting this description just right. Not all of them are great in terms of meta, but they’re actually not that difficult to learn. Check out the best raid DPS classes for beginners in Midnight Season 1:

• Beast Mastery Hunter: BM is beginner-friendly in raid because it’s simple, steady, and you can do your whole rotation while moving. Most of your damage is on predictable cooldown beats, and you get to focus on mechanics instead of hard casting and panicking.
• Shadow Priest: This is a super comfy raid pick because it’s naturally tanky. Say thanks to your self-healing tools, but don’t consider yourself a sort of Tank, of course, lol. You’ve got strong rot pressure, good utility like Leap of Faith and Psychic Scream, and you’re not instantly punished for every tiny mistake.
• Frost Mage: It’s the “safe mage” spec in raiding. Great survivability, excellent damage across the fight, and solid burst when you need it. But it can’t be compared to Fire Mage though. Yet it’s also way less punishing than Fire when your timing is off, which matters a lot on progression.
• Havoc Demon Hunter: Havoc isn’t the strongest and most obvious DPS for raiding in Midnight right now, but it’s easy to play and hard to grief yourself on. Mobility is insane, the rotation is forgiving, and you can stay alive long enough even if you don’t know how to position yourself well in a fight.

Always go for the specs that allow you to learn fights rather than memorize rotations. These four guys do exactly that. I remember starting with Frost Mage, and it has become one of my favorite specs in the entire game. By playing these specs, you’ll stay alive longer, learn how to focus on the target (which is a big deal during boss fights), and how to be useful in fights even if you’re not a top DPS at the end of the run.

Retribution Paladin - A Hidden Gem for Solo Raiders in WoW

I’ve put Ret Paladin in a separate section of my WoW retail best raiding DPS list, but not because it’s OP or dictates the meta. It’s just a solid pick for those who wish to be an answer to any real-life raid situations when playing solo. When you’re playing with randoms, your communication is always several levels lower than it could be.

This is where Retribution Paladin saves the day. You’ve got bursty AoE, and you’re hard to kill. It means you rely less on Tanks and Healers. Your buttons like Divine Shield and Lay on Hands, as well as Word of Glory are what keep you alive throughout the toughest raid. Go for this spec if your goal is to deal consistent damage and stay up on your own. That’s why I call it a hidden gem.

 

 

How I Created This Raid DPS Tier List

Before I explain myself, you should know that all the tier lists you see on the web are super subjective. Yes, you’ve got the statistics, but the author’s personal opinion will always prevail. I’m not an exception in this situation, which means you might disagree with the placement of some specs on my raiding DPS tier list for Midnight here. Anyway, I’ve relied mostly on the following factors apart from my opinion and what I’ve seen in the game:

1. Damage Profile - How good a spec is in terms of dealing single-target or AoE damage. I’ve put the first criterion higher because you wanna melt down bosses first of all.
2. Cooldown Reliance - I mean, having a DPS that has important cooldown buttons is nice, a clear example of that is Fire Mage, but being consistent without them brings a spec much higher on my list.
3. Survivability and Uptime - I’ve compared how long specs stay alive and what they contribute to the fight.
4. Raid Value - Your utility tools that influence how a raid is going in general. An absolute winner here would be Augmentation Evoker, but other specs like Ret Paladin have a lot of tools to offer here, too.

I also tried not to forget how friendly the spec is to average raid groups. This is vital because you’ve got plenty of them that are broken on paper, but need perfect raid comps in practice.
